Dale Herman was born on November 13, 1956 in Madison, WI, the son of Clarence and Dorothy (Selby) Herman. He worked in pipe line construction as a laborer. Dale had a great sense of humor and was a generous person, constantly giving of his time. He was forever active, especially enjoying fishing and the outdoors.

He is survived by one daughter, Lindsey Herman of Longview, TX; one son, Kyle Herman of Tacoma, WA; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Cora (Ervin) Schantz of Mandan and Lora (Jerome) Hatfield of Marshall, TX; five nieces and nephews, Karah and Murray Meisenheimer and Kaitlyn Hatfield, all of Marshall, TX and Travis and Yve Schantz, both of Mandan; his special friend, Hildegarde McLaurin of Mandan.

Neal Geiger

Neal Geiger, age 43, Mandan, died April 3, 2006 due to injuries sustained in an accident.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Saturday, April 8, 2006 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan with Father Patrick Schumacher as celebrant. Neal's wishes were to be cremated following the funeral service.

Neal L. Geiger was born on August 28, 1962 in Mandan, the son of Joseph and Loretta (Bonderenko) Geiger. He received his education in Mandan, graduating from Mandan High School. Neal was employed by Cass Clay as a dock worker.

Neal was the “handyman” to call when something needed to be fixed. Some of his many talents included, mechanical abilities, carpentry skills and construction expertise. His family will miss having him around when something goes wrong, they could always count on him being there in a moment’s notice. Neal cherished the time he spent hunting with his nephews and his large group of friends who he was close to. Deer hunting and making sausage with a special recipe was a favorite pastime of his. Whenever his nieces or nephews were involved in a fundraiser, they were assured that Neal would support them-at Christmastime, he always remembered his nieces and nephews with gifts. He loved 60’s, 70’s and 80’s music…he was able to name a song by only hearing the first few notes. Neal certainly preferred to be active rather than sit around. His buddy, Yukon, his dog, will miss all the fun times they shared together.

Neal’s family will deeply miss the quiet, thoughtful and sensitive man that Neal was. He was generous with his time and, above all, he noticed the needs of others, mostly by being a good listener. His shy smile and gentle manner will forever be held in the hearts of all who knew him.

Left with fond memories of Neal are his two brothers and one sister-in-law, Mark (Kim) Geiger of Mandan and Dale Geiger of Arizona; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary (Gerald) Quintus of Richardton, ND and Peggy (Duane) Walsh of Alabama; seven nieces and nephews, Joe and Betsy Geiger, Dustin, Garrett and Carly Quintus, Jacob and Colton Walsh; two aunts, Adeline Bahr of Glen Ullin and Bertha Geiger of Dickinson; one uncle, Tom Geiger of Mandan; his special friend, JoLynn Lefor of Mandan.

Lucile Luck

Lucile Luck, age 92, Mandan, died April 9, 2006 at Med Center One Care Center, Mandan.

The Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday, April 13, 2006 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan with Father Patrick Schumacher as celebrant. Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery.

Lucile Dahners was born March 9, 1914 in Calgary, Canada, the daughter of Henry and Alice A. (Kennedy) Dahners. Lucile was graduated from the College of St. Catherine in 1935, majoring in music and German. On November 26, 1936, she married Robert T. Luck in Mandan. Bob died in December 1980. In later years, Lucile resided in the home that her father and mother built. In 2000, she realized that she had reached the point of leaving her home to enter a foster care home, which meant having a roommate. Mary Stephens, her roommate at the foster care home, happened to be the same roommate that she had at college, over seventy years ago in St. Paul, MN. Together, they reminisced about times in college and were a great help to each other.

In foster care, Lucile had a friend, a Russian lady with character with whom she enjoyed spending time singing old German songs. Lucile’s embroidery, knitting and crocheting boasted exquisite detail, always being done with perfection. One of her dessert specialties was making divinity.

For many years, Lucile worked in the family store, “Dahners Department and Music Store” in downtown Mandan. Her love and appreciation for music sprang from her mother’s proficiency in music and her father’s beautiful Irish tenor voice.

Lucile was proud of her brother, Greg, who was a rancher. She was saddened by his recent death. Lucile and her sister, Gwen, shared a close relationship. In later years, Gwen and her daughter, Becky, regularly visited and attended faithfully to her needs. A special thank-you goes out to them for their generosity and loving care.

Lucile’s proper, but polite manner will be remembered and missed by her daughter, K. “Cash” Luck of Minneapolis and Remer, MN; one sister, Gwen Mushik of Mandan; one sister-in-law, Betty Dahners; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Greg and one brother-in-law, John Mushik.

Nick was an avid railroad history buff. He volunteered many hours at the Morton County Railroad Museum. He gained much pleasure from playing Pinochle, horseshoes and pool, going bowling, hunting and fishing and even enjoyed an occasional trip to the casino. Attendance at his grandchildren’s sports events was important to him…he liked being there to support them. Nick had a great love for music, especially playing the harmonica, dancing and listening to Lawrence Welk.

Nick’s strong faith was shared with many people who knew him. He took pleasure in helping the priest at the Terrace in Bismarck when he lived there.

Nick cherished the many days he spent at his daughter’s resort in Detroit Lakes, MN. Nick’s sharp mind led him to make his own set of water skis which he made good use of with his daughters at the Dickinson Dam. Nick also spent many hours making diamond willow canes.

Josephine enjoyed the many hours she spent cooking and baking, especially making the good old German recipes.

For 36 years, she was the substitute for Kenneth’s route as a mail carrier, then carrying mail in Kintyre for three years as a regular carrier.

Josephine’s strong faith was constantly evident in her lifestyle. She was a model of encouragement and an inspiring example of integrity and honesty even as she battled her long illness.
