Margaret E. Poss

Margaret E. Poss, 93 of Wahpeton, ND formerly of Barney, ND, passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2012 peacefully with her family by her side and under the loving care of the staff at St. Catherine's Living Center, Wahpeton, ND. Funeral mass will be Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church, Wahpeton, ND with the Very Rev. Dale Lagodinski as celebrant. Visitation will be Friday, January 27, 2012 from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. with a rosary at 6:30 and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. all at St. John's Catholic Church, Wahpeton. Burial will be at St. Anthony's Cemetery, Mooreton, ND. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers are: Brian Poss Kevin Poss, Joe Foertsch, Jason Foertsch, Travis Manske & Terry Pellman. Organist will be Mary Jane Pauly and vocalist: Jackie Medenwald.

In lieu of flowers please give memorials to the St. Catherine’s Gazebo Fund.

Margaret Elizabeth Reiland was born February 16, 1918 to Albert & Elizabeth (Theil) Reiland in Liberty Grove Township, rural Mantador, ND. The family lived on the farm and in Mantador as she grew up. She was baptized at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and attended Sts. Peter & Paul grade school in Mantador. While on the farm she and her older brother Wilfred would walk across the field to the Mertes farm and join their children on the mile and half walk to school. After grade school Margaret helped her mother and other families, especially the LW Jentz family, in the area with house work.

Margaret and Norbert Poss were married June 7, 1938 at Sts. Peter & Paul Church and lived on the Poss family farm southeast of Barney, where they raised their seven children, while raising grain, hogs and milking cows. Margaret always enjoyed cooking and baking. Her greatest pleasure was to see everyone who sat at her table leave with a full stomach. She also enjoyed gardening and embroidery. She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Mantador until joining St. John’s, Wahpeton. She was a member of the Christian Mothers and Foresters.

Norbert passed away after a heart attack on September 13, 1974, at the age of sixty-one. Norbert and Margaret took several trips in their last years together and Margaret took several trips with her friends over the years, traveling to most all the 50 states.

Margaret stayed on the farm until 1983 when she bought a home in Wahpeton where she resided until moving to the Leach Home in December 2002. She moved to St. Catherine’s in April 2010.

Margaret is survived by six children: Marietta (Leo) Pellman, Mantador, ND and their children: Dan, Joe, Jim, Tim, Terry & Ron; Robert (Viola) Poss, Fergus Falls, MN and their children: Brian, Brenda, Barbara & Breanne; David (Kathy) Poss, Wahpeton, ND and their children: Kevin & Karla; Betty (Al) Frazeur, Council Bluffs, IA; Doris (Paul) Foertsch, Wahpeton, ND and their children: Angy, Joe & Jason; Cathy (Bret) Flynn, Laurel, MT and their children: Travis & Alycia; 19 great grandchildren; brother: Gilbert Reiland, Hanford, CA; sister: Rosemary (Wayne) Smith, Wausau, WI and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Albert & Elizabeth Reiland; husband: Norbert; 2 brothers: Wilfred & Arnold; a son: Albert; son-in-law: Mark Manske; granddaughter: Rebecca Manske; great granddaughter: Alexis Pellman and a sister-in-law: Beth Reiland.

Mildred C. Haus

Mildred C. Haus, 93 of Mantador, ND passed away Thursday, January 5, 2012 at St. Francis Nursing Home, Breckenridge, MN. Funeral mass will be Monday, January 9, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Mantador with Fr. Peter Anderl as celebrant. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Mantador. Visitation will be Sunday, January 8, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a rosary at 6:30 and prayer service at 7:00 p.m. all at Sts Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Mantador. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers are: Larry Haus, Roman Heley, Raymond Heley, Harold Reiland, Bruce Forster & Chuck Heley. Honorary pallbearers are: All her grandchildren, great grandchildren & friends. Organist will be May Ellen Krump with special music by Sts Peter & Paul Choir.

Mildred Caroline Haus was born December 24, 1918 in Brandon, Minnesota, the daughter of Frank & Frances (Lambertz) Politeske. At the age of six she moved with her family to Parker’s Prairie, MN and later to Urbank, MN. Mildred worked for Ernie Kath & Dr. Plachte in Wahpeton, ND. On June 26, 1945 she was united in marriage to Thomas Haus at Urbank, MN after their marriage they moved to Mantador, ND and lived on the farm. In 1975 they moved into Mantador. Thomas passed away on May 9, 1999 and Mildred continued to live in Mantador until 2008 when she entered St. Gerard’s Community Nursing Home, Hankinson, ND. In August 2011 she entered St. Francis Hospital and then St. Francis Nursing Home, Breckenridge, MN.

Mildred enjoyed puzzles, gardening, word search puzzles, playing cards & her family. She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Mantador, Christian Mothers, Mantador Senior Citizen’s and Mantador Auxiliary.

She is survived by her sons: Ronald (Eva) Haus, Philippines, Gerald (Paulette) Haus, Prescott, WI, Duane (Alice), Mantador, ND & Charles (Chuck) (Charmaine) Haus, Hankinson, ND; daughters: Mary (Kevin) Liudahl, Canandaigua, NY & Doreen Gutzmer, Hankinson, ND.; seventeen grandchildren & eleven great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents: Frank & Frances Politeske, her husband: Thomas, brother: Herbert; sisters: Teresa Klimek, Alverea Heimeral & Delphine Schlauderaff; son-in-law: James Gutzmer.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Riveredge Hospice, Breckenridge, MN.

Shannon Steffens

Shannon Susanne Kemple Steffens Hankinson, ND passed away Thursday, March 1, 2012 at Essentia Health, Fargo, ND. A memorial service will be held Thursday, March 8, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Union Congregational Church, Hankinson, ND.

Shannon was born November 11, 1944 in Lisbon, ND, the daughter of Jacob and Jean (Palmer) Kemple. They lived in the DeLamere, Milnor area where Sannon attended elementary schools. In 1958, they moved to Hankinson, ND where Shannon attended Hankinson High School graduating in 1962. After graduation she worked at St. Lukes Hospital in the nursery as an aide until January 1963. She was married to Albert Steffens, Jr. on Feb. 1, 1963. They lived in Minneapolis MN until 1964 until returning to New Effington, SD, where they farmed. She went on to obtain her practical nursing degree from North Dakota State College of Science. She worked in the nursing field for 28 years. During her nursing career she worked at Tekakwitha Nursing Home, Sisseton, SD, Rosholt Nursing Home, Rosholt, SD, St. Catherine’s, Wahpeton, ND, Forman Care Center, Forman, ND and St. Mary’s Nursing Home, Hankinson, ND. She retired from nursing in 2005 due to health problems.

Shannon thoroughly enjoyed fishing - there was no better day for her than to pack up lots of food & coffee and go sit by the lake to fish. She also enjoyed gardening, horseback riding and camping. She was a very loving sister, mother & grandmother.

Shannon is survived by her children: Natalie (Mark) Johnson, their children: Justin, Emily, & Jesse, Wahpeton, ND and Jeffrey (Jona) Steffens, their children: Loren, Gaven, April & great grandson: Jadon Steffens of New Effington, SD; Her sisters: Sherrie (Dick) Kirkeby, Winnie Wallock, and Judy (Loel) Marohl all of Hankinson, ND, brother, John (Margie) Olson, Swanville, MN and special friend, George Reed, Hankinson, ND. Nieces & nephews and their families: Christy (Mike) Montonye and children: Corey Volesky & Megan Bellmore; Corley (Robert) Arends and son: Jacob; Leigh (Lexi) Jaeger and children: Cody, Richard, Shelby & Addison; Neeley Wallock and daughter: Skyla; Melanie (Dan) Herding and children: Taylor, Dalton & Devon and Danette ( Lance) Marohl.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jake & Jean Kemple, In-laws: Albert & Elsie Steffens, and 2 sons, Jeremy and James.

Anton M. "Tony" Lenzen, Jr.

Anton “Tony” Lenzen Jr., 77, Hankinson, ND passed away peacefully into the arms of the Lord on April 20, 2012, while lovingly surrounded by his family and under the care of Riveredge Hospice of St. Francis Medical Center. Tony was diagnosed with Mesothelioma (asbestos cancer) on December 8, 2011 and it claimed his life quickly.

Born November 28, 1934 in Hankinson, ND to Anton J. and Regina (Hentz) Lenzen Sr. He grew up on the farm and attended Elma #2 school in rural Hankinson and St. Francis Academy in Hankinson.

Tony married Marlys Wilm on September 4, 1954 at St. Philip’s Catholic Church, Hankinson. They resided and farmed on the family farm for five years. Giving up farming in 1959 they moved to River Falls, WI. He was employed in general construction work. In 1974 they moved to Sabin, MN. In 1993 they moved to Glyndon, MN, continuing his career in the construction field. In 1997 after having retired, they moved to Moorhead, MN. Finally in 2003 they returned to live in Hankinson, ND. Tony and Marlys were married for 49 years when she passed away on June 15, 2004.

Tony was very active in the church parishes he belonged to over the years, including Eucharistic Minister, church council, leading rosary and serving as Sacristan at St. Philip’s in Hankinson.

He was also very active in the Foresters, Knights of Columbus and the Carpenter’s Union as well as an active and much loved member of Hankinson Senior Center, serving on the board there.

On January 26, 2009 he married Genevieve “Genn” Kutter of Lidgerwood, ND at St. Philip’s in Hankinson. They divided their time between her home in Lidgerwood and his home in Hankinson.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Anton and Regina, his first wife: Marlys, brothers: Raymond and Maurice and a sister: Mary Raddatz.

He is survived by his five daughters: Denise (Tom) Goehring, Ft. Collins, CO, Donna (Jim) Soncrant, Moorhead, MN, Susie (Charlie) McConaughay, Sandstone, MN, Sandy (Mike) Mietz, Oriskany, NY, Julie (Greg) Scholler, Grand Forks, ND; a sister: Delphine (Bob) Cooper, Hudson, WI, ten grandchildren, four great grandchildren; his wife: Genn and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral mass will be Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Philip’s Catholic Church, Hankinson, ND. Visitation will be Monday, April 23, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service and rosary at 7:00 p.m. at the Frank Family Funeral Home, Hankinson, ND. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers the family requests a memorial be made to the American Cancer Society, Cares for Cancer, or the MS Society, in his name.

Clayton " Butch" Lehmann

Clayton John Lehmann 59, formerly of Milnor, ND passed away Monday, April 30, 2012 at Four Seasons Healthcare Center in Forman, ND. A memorial service will be held Friday, May 4, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at United Methodist Church, Wyndmere, ND with Pastor Mike Ward officiating. Pallbearers are all his family & friends & honorary pallbearers are: the staff & residents of Four Seasons Healthcare Center. Special music by Jackie Lee and Amy Lehmann.

Clayton was born on March 17, 1953 in Wheaton, MN to Lester & Virginia (Nelson) Lehmann. He attended school in Wyndmere, ND. He worked for Jones Hay Service, Five Star Dairy, Northern Plains Railroad as a train engineer and GMG Hay & Silage Service, Delamere, ND.

He was united in marriage to Sally Thornberg in October 1975; to this union they had two sons, Tim & Jason. They divorced. In 2009 Clayton entered Four Seasons Healthcare Center.

Clayton enjoyed his grandchildren, fishing & grilling. He loved old western movies and was a Vikings fan.

Clayton is survived by his sons: Tim, Hankinson, ND and Jason (Keely) Milnor, ND; a brother: James (Aimee), Abercrombie, ND; sisters: Gloria (Bob) Geldersma, Wyndmere, ND, Judy (Joe) Neiber, Geneseo, ND, Connie (John) Larson, Abercrombie, ND and Debbie (Kenny) Stevens, Wyndmere, ND; grandchildren: Andrew, Nevaeh, Jarady Mae, Gracin, Kasey & Taylor and many nieces & nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Lester & Virginia.

John M. Manikowski

John M. Manikowski, 80 of Geneseo, ND, passed away Friday, February 24, 2012 at his home in Geneseo. Funeral mass will be Friday, March 2, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Martin's Catholic Church, Geneseo, ND with Fr. Robert Smith as celebrant. Burial with military graveside honors by the Cayuga American Legion Post #294 and the North Dakota National Guard at St. Martin's Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, March 1, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. all at St. Martin's Catholic Church, Geneseo. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren: Joshua Manikowski, Seth Manikowski, Nick Manikowski, Kyle Wegener, Levi Manikowski & Derek Toepke. Honorary pallbearers are: All his friends, grandchildren & great grandchildren. Organist will be Alane Dunn with special music by Tom & Linda Kaczynski.

John Martin Manikowski was born October 20, 1931 in Geneseo, ND to Walter & Grace (Herzog) Manikowski. He attended school in Geneseo and his senior year in Lidgerwood. From 1951 to 1953, he served in the US Army. On July 22, 1952 he was united in marriage to Rosina Aberle. After returning from the service he joined his father in the well drilling business. He started as a US mail carrier in 1955, retiring in 1996. He also owned and operated the Geneseo Bar from 1968 to 1974.

John was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Tewaukon Rod & Gun Club, Cayuga American Legion, St. Martin’s Men Society, on the board of the Red River Human Services and served as Sargent County Commissioner for 16 years.

John loved his wife, children, grandchildren & great grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time with family & friends, fishing, hunting and gardening & giving his harvests away.

He is survived by his wife: Rosina Manikowski, Geneseo, ND; his children: John (Rita) Manikowski, Geneseo, ND, Yvonne (Ernie) Wegener, Kindred, ND, Stanley (Betty) Manikowski, Geneseo, ND, Byron (Becky) Manikowski, Geneseo, ND & Debra (Kirk) Toepke, New Salem, ND; daughter-in-law: LaVonne Manikowski, Geneseo, ND; a sister: Joan Pickett, Nevada; 21 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; niece: Judy Swanson & nephew: Joe Fust and numerous nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Son: William; 2 infant sons; 5 sisters: Mary Fust, Eleanor Clark, Millicent Koch, Florence Jensen & Lorraine Bartels and a nephew: Donnie Fust.
