BOTTINEAU – Dennis L. Johnson, 57, Bottineau, died Monday, Oct. 2, 2006, in a Minot hospital.

He was born Jan. 3, 1949, to Maurice and Adine Johnson in Bottineau. He served in the Army in Vietnam.

Survivors: brother, Terry, Jacksonville, Ill.; sister, Karen Hizer, Minot.

Funeral: Friday at 2 p.m. in First Lutheran Church, Bottineau.

Burial: Oak Creek Cemetery, Bottineau.

Visitation: Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. to noon in Nero Funeral Home, Bottineau.

Janet Okland

Feb. 7, 1924-Oct. 3, 2006

WATFORD CITY – Janet Okland, 82, Watford City, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2006, in her home.

She was born Feb. 7, 1924, to Peder and Ingeborg Tweden near Watford City. She married Hilmer Okland Oct. 19, 1945, near Watford City.

Survivors: sons, Elden, Watford City, Duane, Rapid City, S.D.; daughter, Clarice Judkins, Watford City; eight grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Harold, Watford City; sisters, Ethel Nelson, Spokane, Wash., Palma Johnson, Watford City.

Funeral: Friday at 10 a.m. in First Lutheran Church, Watford City.

Burial: Garden Cemetery, rural Watford City.

Visitation: Today from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. in Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City.

Myrtle Watkins

Dec. 9, 1912-Oct. 9, 2006

FORTUNA – Myrtle Watkins, 93, Crosby, formerly of Fortuna, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2006, in a Crosby nursing home.

She was born Dec. 9, 1912, to Alfred and Elise Hills in Saskatoon, Sask. She married Arthur Watkins Jan. 8, 1954, in Saskatchewan.

Survivors: brothers, George and Stanley, both Saskatoon, Gordon, Delisle, Sask.

Funeral: Thursday at 2 p.m. in Faith Lutheran Church, Fortuna.

Burial: Fortuna Cemetery.

Visitation: Today from 3 to 7 p.m. in Stakston-Martin Funeral Home, Crosby, and Thursday, one hour prior to the service, in the church.

Florence Stenson

April 9, 1917-Oct. 4, 2006

Florence M. Stenson, 89, of Harvey, died Wednesday, October 4, 2006 at the St. Aloisius Nursing Home of Harvey.

A memorial service will be held at the United Methodist Church of Harvey on Saturday, Oct. 7, at 2 p.m. Burial will be at a later date at the Memorial Park Cemetery of Willow City, ND. Friends may also sign the guest register Friday (today) from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey.

Florence was born April 9, 1917 to William and Clara (Nelson) Albright on the family farm near Overly, ND. In 1925 the family moved to a farm near Willow City, where she attended school, graduating in 1936. She married Rodney L. Stenson on June 29, 1939 in Bowbells, ND.

Florence and Rodney began their family on the West Coast returning to Willow City after Rodney served in the Navy. In 1951, they moved to a farm near Harvey. In 1960, Rodney started the State Farm Insurance Agency where Florence served as an office assistant. Most importantly, she was a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother. One of her hobbies was raising Shetland ponies, with her herd of four growing to over 35. She loved to bake, paint, garden and travel. She and Rodney visited all the fifty states in their retirement. For the past twenty years they wintered in Apache Junction, AZ.

Her loving family includes her husband of 67 years, Rodney; her daughter, Ardelle Stenson and her daughter, Jennifer of Cypress, CA.; her sons, Don and his wife Bonnie of Auburn, WA and their children Brent Stenson and Kim Stenson; and Ron and his wife, Sharon of Williston, ND and their children Stacey Haugen, Shane Stenson and Shannon Bradley and eleven great- grandchildren; her brother, Vernon “Bud” Albright and his wife Marian of Willow City and a sister, Luella (Albright) Thompson of St. Cloud, MN.

Florence was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Nina (Albright) Drafall and her brothers, Leroy Albright and Clifford Albright.

In lieu of memorials the family asked that donations be made to the Wells Sheridan Transit Service.

Alma Lierbo

Dec. 13, 1911-Oct. 7, 2006

Alma Eleanor Lierbo, 94, Minot, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006, in a Minot nursing home.

Alma was born on Dec. 13, 1911, in East Fork Township of Williams County, near Spring Brook, to Knut and Sophie (Herreid) Knutson. She graduated from Epping High School in 1929 and earned a standard teaching certificate from Minot State Teachers College. As a young adult she taught seven years at the East Fork Township consolidated school.

Alma married Alvin Lierbo on June 14, 1937. They made their home in Spring Brook, Alamo, Churchs Ferry, Brocket, Balfour and Upham, where Alvin was employed as superintendent or principal at the schools there. The family moved to Minot in 1960, where Alvin was a teacher at Minot State University and Minot High School and Alma taught piano and assisted in school music programs and spring music festivals. After her husbandís death in 1968, she worked for eight years as a receptionist at Trinity Homes and several years as an office volunteer following her retirement.

Alma was a member of First Lutheran Church, Minot, and its church circle, quilters group, library board and served as a pianist for the womenís organization for 20 years. She was also a member of the Minot Womenís Club and Trinity Hospital Auxiliary.

She is survived by her daughters, Dr. Jean (Norris) Olson of Grand Forks, Ardelle (Tom) Blattman of Roseville, Calif.; three grandchildren, Marc (Gretchen) Olson of Chicago, Ill., Tara (Tim) Olson-Cejka of Rockford, Ill., and Kimberly Blattman of Sacramento, Calif.; six great-grandchildren, Elise, Isabelle and Cade Olson, Logan, Hunter and Reagan Cejka.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband and one grandson, Capt. Jeffry Olson, who was killed in an aircraft accident during the Gulf War.

Funeral service: Monday, Oct. 9, 2006, at 2 p.m. in Trinity Homes Chapel, Minot.

Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.

Visitation: Today from noon to 5 p.m. in the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.

Frank E. New

April 18, 1925-Oct. 4, 2006

Frank E. New, 81, 406-31st Ave. SE, No. 202, Minot, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2006, at his residence.

Frank was born April 18, 1925, the son of George and Pearl (Harris) New, on the family farm in Waterford Township, near Glenburn. He was raised and educated in that area and entered into active duty service with the U.S. Army and served his country during World War II from 1944-1947.

After receiving his honorable medical discharge he returned to North Dakota and was united in marriage to Corrine Brand on July 30, 1947, in First Presbyterian Church, Minot.

Throughout the years, they made their home in Burlington, Garrison, and Minot, where he was employed by several area auto businesses doing body work including Fisher Motors, Parker Motors, Broadway Body Shop, Westlie Motors, Don Moe Dodge, all of Minot, and New Body of Garrison.

Frank was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, American Legion of Garrison and First Presbyterian Church, Minot. He enjoyed spending time with family.

His loving family includes his wife of 59 years, Corrine; children, Jack New, Minot, Dallas (Mary) New, Silverton, Ore., Ronald (Sandee) New, Woodburn, Ore., Sharon Williams, Atlanta, Ga., Karen New, Stockbridge, Ga., Sandra (James) Lambert, Minot; 22 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sisters, Vera Benton, Minot, Mary Hambek, Andover, Minn.; brother, David (Helen) New, Surrey.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Art, Walter, Jesse and George Jr.; and sisters, Lorraine Davis and Lucille Goettle.

Funeral service: Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. in First Presbyterian Church, Minot.

Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot.

Visitation: Monday from 2 to 7 p.m. in the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
