Clarence Fjeld

MAYVILLE, N.D. -- Clarence Fjeld, 69, Longmont, Colo., formerly of Mayville, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, at home.

Clarence Myron Fjeld was born Oct. 17, 1931, the son of Clarence and Martha (Alexson) Fjeld, in Mayville, where he attended school. He joined the U.S. Army in January 1951, serving in the Korean War, and was discharged in January 1954. He married Mary Ellen Grindeland on Dec. 29, 1955, in Mayville. He farmed in North Dakota and then worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture as a poultry products grader. He worked in plants in Minnesota and South Dakota before being transferred to a plant in Boulder, Colo. He retired in March 1992 after 32 years of government service. He moved to Lyons, Colo., in 1969, from Gaylord, Minn. He moved to Longmont in 1987.

He is survived by his wife; sons, Gary (Janis), Scottsdale, Ariz., and Paul (Roberta), Longmont; a daughter, Barbara (Troy) Payne, Longmont; five grandchildren; his mother, Martha Strom, Northwood, N.D.; a sister, Sharon (John) Holkesvig, Lakota, N.D.; brothers, Allen (Lorraine) Strom, Graham, Wash., and Larry (Diane) Strom, Northwood; and a sister-in-law, Clara Fjeld, Grand Forks.

He was preceded in death by his father; stepfather, Erling Strom; and a brother, David Fjeld.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Gran Lutheran Church, Mayville.

Burial: Gran Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Clarence Fjeld Memorial Fund in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry St., Longmont, CO 80501-5440 (Baker, Mayville).

Elsie Moen

LARIMORE, N.D. -- Elsie Moen, 96, Larimore, died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000, in Larimore Good Samaritan Center, where she had lived since April 1990.

Elsie Marien was born April 29, 1904, the daughter of John and Amanda (Soderberg) Marien, in Larimore, where she attended school. She married Selmer Moen on Dec. 18, 1928, in Larimore. They lived and farmed near McCanna, N.D., on the Moen farm for five years. They bought their own farm near Larimore, where they lived and farmed until 1964, when they retired and moved into Larimore. Selmer Moen died Jan. 26, 1974.

She is survived by a son, Ron (Jan), St. Louis; a daughter, Millie (Bob) MacLeod, Plant City, Fla., and Pelican Rapids, Minn.; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Ellen Johnson, Larimore; and sisters-in-law, Vera Marien and Cora Delaney, both of Larimore.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Esther Marien; and brothers, Edwin, Adolph, Arthur, Ben, Walter, Alfred and Clarence.

Services: 10: 30 a.m. Thursday, Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Larimore.

Visitation: 2: 30 to 5 p.m. Wednesday and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with a 7: 30 p.m. prayer service, all in Bakke Funeral Home, Larimore, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: Bellevue Cemetery, Larimore. Memorials are suggested to Good Samaritan Center, Our Savior's Lutheran Church or Bellevue Cemetery, all of Larimore.

Eileen Johnson

MINNEWAUKAN, N.D. -- Eileen E. Johnson, 76, El Monte, Calif., formerly of Minnewaukan, N.D., died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, in El Monte.

Eileen Ethel Rikansrud was born April 12, 1924, the daughter of Lawrence and Leota (Blowers) Rikansrud, in Lansford, N.D. She moved with her family to Minnewaukan, where she attended school. She married Gordon Johnson on April 25, 1942, in Minnewaukan, where they lived. She worked as a waitress and painter. Gordon Johnson died July 28, 1985. She moved to El Monte in 1998.

She is survived by a son, Gary, Los Angeles; daughters, Leoda Clouse, Minot, Gloria Johnson, El Monte, Linda Voge, Bismarck, Elaine Fayton, Altadena, Calif., Marilyn Pisani, Los Angeles, and Joanne Johnson, Salt Lake City; 19 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence; and a sister, Violet Rikansrud.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, St. Peter Lutheran Church, Minnewaukan.

Visitation: 2 to 8 p.m., Friday, with a 7: 30 p.m. prayer service, Nelson Funeral Home, Minnewaukan.

Burial: Church cemetery.

Joseph Goulet

Joseph R. Goulet was born June 17, 1914, the son of David and Mary Pauline (Lafferty) Goulet, in Morden, Man. He grew up in Olga, N.D. He moved to Concrete, N.D. He married Dorella Duciaome on Aug. 7, 1935, in Concrete. They lived in Concrete until moving to Walhalla. He worked for Eugene O'Keeffe and later for John McDoanld until his retirement.

He is survived by his wife; daughters, Faye Weig, Belcourt, N.D., Eleanor (Pierre) Bonamine, Walhalla, Patricia Lewis, Fairmount, N.D., and Eilene (George) Zissia, Sturgis, S.D.; a son, Larry, Pueblo, Colo.; 38 grandchildren; more than 40 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by daughters, Leona Denault, Mabel Vondal, Doris Vondal and Gloria Kopecky.

Services: 10: 30 a.m. Thursday, St. Boniface Catholic Church, Walhalla.

Visitation: 6 to 7: 30 p.m. Wednesday, with 7: 30 p.m. prayer service, in the church.

Burial: St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery, Walhalla (Nelson, Walhalla).

Mabel Herman

WALHALLA, N.D. -- Mabel A. Herman, 97, Walhalla, died Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, in Pembilier Nursing Center, Walhalla.

Mabel Anna Stevenson was born Dec. 7, 1903, the daughter of William and Margaret (Canham) Stevenson, in Wahpeton, N.D. She graduated from high school in Hannah, N.D., and attended Valley City (N.D.) State Teachers College. She taught elementary school in North Dakota for 291/2 years. She married Alexander Herman on June 23, 1926, in Walhalla. They farmed near Walhalla until 1975. Alexander Herman died March 30, 1972.

She is survived by sons, Curtis (Gerry), Max, N.D., and Harold, Walhalla; a daughter, Esther (Kenneth) Rye, Surprise, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; and a sister, Irma Swallow, Kalispell, Mont.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Hubert, Warren, Leslie, Nobel, Milfred and Harry; and a sister, Hazel Morgan.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Park Center-Walhalla Presbyterian Church.

Visitation: One hour before services in the church.

Burial: Oaklawn Cemetery, Concrete, N.D. (Nelson, Walhalla).

Florence Sundblad

DRAYTON, N.D. -- Florence Sundblad, 94, formerly of Drayton, died Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, in Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center, Hallock, Minn.

Florence N. Sundblad was born Jan. 25, 1906, the daughter of John and Caroline (Johnson) Sundblad, in Teien Township, Kittson County, Minn., where she attended school.

She is survived by three nieces.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Paul, Waldo and John.

Services: 1 p.m. Saturday, Teien Covenant Church, Drayton.

Visitation: 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Adamson-Austin Funeral Home, Drayton.

Burial: Church cemetery.

Robert Lommen

BUXTON, N.D. -- Robert A. Lommen, 75, Buxton, died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000, at home.

Robert Arthur Lommen was born May 11, 1925, the son of Sidney and Helena (Berg) Lommen, in Fargo. He grew up and graduated from high school in Thompson, N.D. He joined the Army Air Corps in 1943. He graduated from Mayville (N.D.) Teachers College with a degree in mathematics. He taught in Grand Forks. He managed the family's banking business and served as an insurance agent in Buxton. He married Joyce Spoonland in 1954.

He is survived by a son, David (Kari), Grand Forks; daughters, Laurie (Kelly) Ratzell, Littleton, Colo., Lanelle (Eric) Richards, Rhonda (Jeff) Moorman, both of Huntingtown, Md., Darcee (Bryan) Capdeville, Bozeman, Mont., and Kristen (Mark) Lind, Grand Forks; 16 grandchildren; and brothers, Richard (Donna) and Alan (Dorothy), both of Bismarck.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Gibbons.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Immanuel Lutheran Church, Buxton.

Visitation: One hour before services in the church.

Burial: Immanuel #2 Cemetery, Buxton (Knudsvig-Baker, Buxton, N.D.).
