Myron I. Maudal
Funeral services for Myron I. Maudal, 90, Alexandria, Minn., were held on Saturday, October 27, 2001 at Ave Maria Catholic Church, Wheaton, Minn. Father C.F. Wilhelm, Father Stan Wieser and Father Nicholas Zimmer officiated. Mr. Maudal died on Tuesday, October 23, 2001 at his home.
Myron I. Maudal, son of Ingvald and Hannah (Anderson) Maudal, was born on March 9, 1911 in Traverse County He attended rural school in Wheaton. Myron, known by many as “Stub”, helped with the family farm operation and later worked road construction and for transportation companies in Milwaukee and Wheaton. On June 12, 1941, Myron was inducted into the military. On January 21, 1942, he reported for active duty serving with the United States Army’s 1st Infantry in the Philippine Islands during World War II. During his 4 1/2 years of service, he received the Purple Heart and was Honorably Discharged on November 12, 1945. Following his discharge, he returned to Wheaton and began operating the family farm.
On April 19, 1949, he married Mary Zimmer at Holy Angels Catholic Church, St. Cloud. To this union four children were born: Claude, Kathryn, Ann and Michael. Having retired from farming in 1978, Myron and Mary moved to Alexandria in 1988. He served on several boards and organizations in Traverse County and was a current member of the American Legion Post #80 in Wheaton and St. Mary’s Church, Alexandria.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Maudal, Alexandria; two sons, Claude (Rita) Maudal, Lisbon, and Michael (Cindy) Maudal, Alexandria; one daughter, Ann Maudal, Oak Park Heights, Minn.; four grandchildren; four sisters, Myrtle Swedlund, Alexandria, Evalin McAloney, Tucson, Ariz., Lois (Leonard) Hains, Alexandria, and Dona Mae Schreffler, Gary, Ind.; two sisters-in-law, Marieta Maudal, Wheaton and Esther Maudal, Maplewood; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ingvald and Hannah Maudal; one daughter, Kathryn Maudal; three brothers, Ivar, Harold and Alton Maudal; and two sisters, Ruth and Pearl Maudal.
Interment at Wildwood Cemetery, Wheaton.

Robert “Bob” A. Litzau
Funeral services for Robert A. “Bob” Litzau, 54, Detroit Lakes, Minn., were held on Thursday, November 1, 2001 at the St. Columba Episcopal Church, White Earth, Minn. Father Mike Smith officiated. Mr. Litzau died Saturday, October 27, 2001 as the result of injuries received in a pedestrian/train accident in Detroit Lakes.
Robert Allen Litzau, son of Ferdinand and Lillian (Norcross) Litzau, was born on March 19, 1947 in Sheldon. As a child, he moved with his family to Ponsford, Minn. He attended Pine Point School and later graduated from Park Rapids High School in 1964. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years.
On July 20, 1968, he married Susan K. Terhark at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Park Rapids. He attended Detroit Lakes Technical College for two years, graduating from the auto body class. He worked for various auto body shops in Detroit Lakes, Park Rapids and later in Morris, Minn. He moved to Park Rapids and attended Bemidji State University for four years in social work. He continued to live in Park Rapids and later moved to White Earth. In 2000, he moved to Detroit Lakes. He was a resident of Park Manor Estates in Detroit Lakes.
He is survived by his fiancee, Maureen “Dolly” Sullivan, Detroit Lakes; two sons, Robert Litzau, Jr., Vancouver, Wash. and Ronald (Lynn) Litzau, Detroit Lakes, two daughters, Melissa (Parnell) Quinn, Granby, Colo. and Jessica Litzau, Park Rapids, Minn.; his mother, Lillian Warren, White Earth; two brothers, Kenneth (Rhonda) Litzau, Red Lake, Minn. and Gary (Barb) Litzau, Detroit Lakes; three sisters, Josephine (Richard) Christlieb, Richwood, Minn., Carol (Larry) Olson, Grand Rapids, Minn., and Susan Frohman, Detroit Lakes; one foster sister, Sandy Levy, White Earth; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Ferdinand Litzau, and his step father, John Henry Warren.
Interment at St. Columba Cemetery, White Earth.

Edna Ekre
Funeral services for Edna Ekre, 94, Enderlin, were held on Friday, November 9, 2001 at First Lutheran Church, Enderlin. Reverend Leon Zavadil officiated. Mrs. Ekre died Monday, November 5, 2001, at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.
Edna Lohr, daughter of Daniel and Alida (Breaw) was born on November 13, 1906 in Kirkland, Ill. She attended school in Sheldon and Buttzville Elementary school and Wyndmere High school, graduating in 1925.
On March 1, 1933, she married Henry J. Ekre, in Marion, N.D. They made their home in Enderlin. Edna taught Sunday School for many years, and was active in WELCA. She was a founding member of of Maple River Senior Citizens in Enderlin, and Royal Neighbors of America, serving as camp recorder for over 25 years. He died April 11, 1987.
She is survived by one son, Donald (Marilyn), Enderlin; one daughter, Betty Frigen, Jamestown; six grandchildren 10 great-grandchildren; and one step great-great-grandson; one brother, Leslie (Georgia), Garnett, Kansas; two sisters, Oliver (Lester) Loomis, Lisbon and Ruby Bleese, Amboy, Wash.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Laurel Pribbenow, Duane Pribbenow, Terry Loomis, Gene Gardner, Donna Larson, and LeRoy Skramstad.
Music was provided by organist Shirley Hanson and soloist Paul Billing.
Interment at Enderlin Cemetery.

Elsie M. Hagen
Funeral services for Elsie M. Hagen, 92, Bothell, Washington, were held on November 5, 2001 at St. Piux X Catholic Church in Mountlake Terrace, Wash. Mrs. Hagen died Thursday, November 1, 2001.
Elsie Lyman, daughter of Clark and Christina Lyman was born on March 30, 1909 on a farm near Verona.
In 1930, she married Joseph Ira. They farmed west of Lisbon. He died in 1947. She moved to Lisbon where she worked for a time at Moll’s IGA and J.C. Penney. In 1953 she married Harold Hagen and moved to Elderwood Manor, Wash. She was widowed again in 1958. Elsie worked for many years at Van De Kamp’s Bakery and also at the Alderwood Post Office. She was active in the St. Pius X Altar Society and St. Ann’s Guild and was a member of the Retail Clerks Union.
She is survived by two daughters, Dolores (Allen) Wood, Lynnwood, Wash. and Marvel (Leonard) Lynch, Lake Forest Park, Wash; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and four step children, ; one brother Wallace (Leta Mae) Lyman, Brownsville, Texas; sister-in-law Marian (Stanley) Lyman, West Fargo.
Interment at Abbey View Cemetery, Brier, Wash.

Alta L. Gilbert
Funeral services for Alta L. Gilbert, 92, Lisbon, were held on Tuesday, November 6, 2001 at First United Presbyterian Church, Lisbon. Reverend Beth Conrad officiated. Mrs. Gilbert died on Thursday, November 1, 2001 at the Lisbon Medical Center.
Alta L. Hanna, daughter of Robert J. and Orpha Louise (Brown) Hanna, was born on February 19, 1909 in Lisbon. She attended rural Lisbon school.
On July 27, 1926, she married Hiram B. Gilbert in Lisbon. Alta assisted her husband at the Texaco Station in Lisbon for many years. She worked at the North Dakota Veterans Home in the housekeeping department and she also worked as a seamstress. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Women.
She is survived by a daughter, Louise (Roger) Sletten Hahn, Nappanee, Ind.; two grandchildren and five step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and 15 step-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Ada Stewart, Lisbon, Audrey Groebner, Albuquerque, N.M., Wilma (Harold) Halstead, Carmen, Man., Canada, and Dorothy Smith, Oregon; and one brother, Roger (Judy) Hanna, Yakima, Wash. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hiram Gilbert, who died December 4, 1960; one sister, Alice Moellenkamp; and two brothers, John and Robert Hanna.
Pallbearers for the funeral were John Sletten, Peter Sletten, Sean Sletten, Wayne Sletten, Rollie Montgomery, Gunnar Fog, Jim Hanna and Roger Elijah.
Music was provided by organist Jan Hansen and soloist Joan Montgomery.
Interment at Oakwood Cemetery, Lisbon.

Ida Thompson
Funeral services for Ida Thompson, 98, Enderlin (formerly Sheldon), were held on Wednesday, November 7, 2001 at Immanual United Methodist Church, Sheldon. Reverend Duane Ferrie officiated. Mrs. Thompson died on Saturday, November 3, 2001 at Hillcrest Manor, Enderlin.
Ida Bratland, daughter of John and Hannah Bratland, was born on October 24, 1903 in Mo-i-Rana (Basmoen) Norway. She was the sixth of ten children. She attended rural school near Leonard.
On July 3, 1922, she married Eddie J. Thompson in Moorhead. They farmed near Leonard and then moved to Sheldon. Ida operated Ida’s Cafe in Sheldon for 12 years. She moved to Enderlin in 1994 and to Hillcrest Manor in 1996.
She is survived by a son, Ernest Pete (Adele) Thompson, Sandpoint, Idaho; 23 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; 38 great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Vingner (Gladys) Bratland, Enderlin. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eddie Thompson, who died October 1, 1970; one son, Gene Thompson; two daughters, Helen and Elaine Thompson.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Scott Thompson, Jim Thompson, Larry Muscha, Mike Muscha, Donald Thompson, Dennis Thompson and John Dittemore.
Music was provided by organist Verna Armstrong and soloist Don Stansbery.
Interment at Sheldon Cemetery, Sheldon.

Jerome “Bud” Maier
Funeral services for Jerome “Bud” Maier, 79, LaMoure, were held on Wednesday, November 7, 2001 at Zoar Lutheran Church, LaMoure. Reverend John Estrem officiated. Mr. Maier died on Sunday, November 4, 2001 at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.
Jerome “Bud” Maier, son of Fred and Marie (Pooch) Maier, was born on February 19, 1922 on the family farm in Pearl Lake Township, near LaMoure. He grew up and attended school and also farmed in Pearl Lake Township.
On April 13, 1942, he married Mary Gorden in Webster, S.D. They farmed in the LaMoure area until Bud’s enlistment of the U.S. Navy in 1943. Bud served on the U.S.S. South Dakota during World War II and received the WWII Victory Medal and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two bronze stars. He was also a member of the survivors of Iwo Jima. Bud received an honorable discharge from the Navy in 1946 and then returned to LaMoure and managed Salzer Lumber Company. In 1965, he purchased the Lumber Company, renamed it Maier Builders Supply and ran the company until his retirement in 1984. Bud was a member of Zoar Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Maier, LaMoure; two sons, Ronald (Mary) Maier, Linton, and Gregory (Susie) Maier, Bismarck; two sisters, Elaine Moffit and Marie Rummel, both of Billings, Mont.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Clint Maier.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Chad Maier, Mitch Maier, Loel Carrol, Mike Johnson, Jack Lutgen and Harlen Witt.
Music was provided by organist Jan Hird, pianist Marcia Young, soloist Cheryl Carrol, and a duet by Jerome Gorden and Linda Wilkie.
Townsend-Good-Shockman Post #19 presented military rites.
Interment at Rosehill Cemetery, LaMoure.
Dahlstrom Funeral Home, LaMoure, was in charge of arrangements.

Marietta E. Schommer
Marietta E. (Betty) Schommer, 82, Enderlin, died Thursday, November 1, 2001. A private graveside service was held on Monday, November 5, 2001 with burial at Enderlin Cemetery, Enderlin.
Marietta was born September 19, 1919 in Watertown, Wis., daughter of John and Ruth (Day) Brennan. She married R. Armand Schommer on August 5, 1939.
Marietta attended Watertown, Wis. High School. She worked in nursing and raised a large family. She served a faithful witness of Jehovah for 58 years.
She is survived by four sons, Juan (Julia) Schommer, Harlingen, Tex., Don Gene Schommer, Everett, Wash., Michael Schommer, Madison, Wis., and Armand (Kelly) Schommer, Arlington, Wash.; four daughters, Juanita (Wayne) Myszka, Wyndmere, Rita (Doug) Wood, Nanaimo, B.C., Vita (Jon) Hudson, Bend, Ore., and Marietta (Gary) London), Mayerthorpe, AB.; 30 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; one brother, Jim Brennan, Schofield, Wis.; and one sister, Molly (Francis) Miller, West Bend, Wis. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, R. Armand Schommer; one son, Hans Schommer; six brothers, Bill, John, Jerry, Gene, and infant twins Junior and Robert Brennan; three sisters, Patricia Werner, and Dorothy and Peggy Brennan as infants; two grandsons, Jon Myszka and Garret Schommer; and one great-great grandson, Israel Jon Myszka.
