Edna Liegman Smith
Funeral services for Edna Liegman Smith, 82, Safford, Ariz. (formerly Wimbledon, N.D.), were held on Thursday, November 29, 2001 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Wimbledon. Reverend James Meyer officiated. Mrs. Smith died Wednesday, November 21, 2001 at Safford, Ariz.
Edna Paasch, daughter of Friedrich and Erna (Hagebock) Paasch, was born on July 2, 1919 in Elliot. She grew up and attended school in Lisbon. Later, the family moved to Wimbledon.
On November 2, 1938 she married Adolph Liegman at Wimbledon. They farmed in Gray Township until 1961 when they moved to Phoenix, Ariz. He died on January 5, 1978. In 1979 she moved to Safford. She married Lee Smith in 1980 at Safford. They moved to Lordsburg, N.M. for two years. She then returned to Safford.
She is survived by four daughters, Marian (Duane) Leeseberg, Circle Pines, Minn., Anne Marie (Sally) Hofferber, Prescott Valley, Ariz., Rose (Robert) West, Safford, Ariz., and Kathy (Daniel) Jensen, Elkhorn, Neb.; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grand children; and one sister, Carrie Sad, Jamestown. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Adolph Liegman and Lee Smith; and infant daughter; one grandson; five brothers and four sisters.
Interment at Prairie View Cemetery, Wimbledon.
Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown, was in charge of arrangements.

Mary Ruth Geffre
Funeral services for Mary Ruth Geffre, 78, Oakes, were held on Wednesday, November 28, 2001 at St. Charles Catholic Church, Oakes. Father Johnson Kottaram officiated. Mrs. Geffre died on Saturday, November 24 at her home.
Mary Ruth Guyott, daughter of Arthur and Florence Guyott, was born on May 4, 1923 on a small farm one mile east of Glover, N.D. Two years after her birth, the family moved to a large farm north of Oakes. She attended Divide County School No. 3 until the eighth grade. She attended high school in Oakes, graduating in 1941. Following her graduation, she attended the State Normal and Industrial School in Ellendale and earned credentials to teach. She taught in country schools in Millerton, Glover and Crete for five years, earning her lifetime teaching certificate.
On June 29, 1948, she married Paul Geffre at St. Charles Church, Oakes. Following their marriage, the couple made their home on a farm northwest of Crete, N.D. where they farmed for 35 years before retiring to live in Oakes in 1983. The two raised a family of eight children. She belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary Club, the Garden Club, Birthday Club and volunteered at the senior center.
She is survived by six sons, John Geffre, Oakes, Eugene (Salley) Geffre, Phoenix, Ariz., Michael (Kathy) Geffre, Piedmont, Okla., Melvin Geffre, Castaic, Calif., Thomas (Margie) Geffre, Crete and Tony (Michelle) Geffre, Gillette, Wyo., two daughters, Eva (James) Tesky, Jamestown and Mary Carol (Joseph) Smith, Glendale, Ariz., one brother, Floyd Guyott, Minneapolis, three sisters, Mildred Thompson, Oakes, Rosella (Michael) Korman, Minneapolis, and Sr. Donna Guyott, St. Paul, 19 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul Geffre, who died on November 16, 1991; two brothers, two sisters, and one grandson.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Vic Thompson, Bob Thompson, Ronnie Pikkaraine, Dick Overlie, Jim Guyott and Harvey Karas, Jr.
Music was provided by organist Vesta Olderness and special music by Sonia Meehl and the St. Cecelia Singers.
Interment at St. Charles Catholic Cemetery, Oakes.
Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Oakes, was in charge of arrangements.

Lester M. Mitchell
Funeral services for Lester Merideth Mitchell, 80, Fargo, were held on Monday, November 26, 2001 at Peace Lutheran Church, Fargo. He died on Thursday, November 22.
Lester Merideth Mitchell, son of Fred and Irene Mitchell, was born on February 10, 1921 near Ayr, N.D. He grew up near Ayr and later served in the United States Army. After his military discharge, he worked for the Cass County Road Department.
On February 27, 1954, he married Gertrude Stensgard. He retired in 1986.
He is survived by his wife Gertrude (Trudy) Mitchell, Fargo, three daughters, Susan (Lon) Engberg, Detroit Lakes, Patty and Karen Mitchell, both of Fargo, one sister, Beatrice Kemmer, Enderlin. He was preceeded in death by his son, Allen.
Interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo.

Kenneth Gene Knecht
Memorial services for Kenneth Gene Knecht, 40, Gardner, N.D., were held on Sunday, November 25, 2001 at Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo. Mr. Knecht died on Thursday, November 22, 2001 at his home in Gardner.
Kenneth Gene Knecht, son of Karyl O’Leary and Robert Knecht, was born on June 27, 1961 in Kenmare, N.D. His family moved to Harvey, then to Enderlin, where he grew up and attended high school. He moved to Fargo and worked on farms and road construction in the surrounding area. For the past 10 years, he has been self-employed in the manufacturing sector. He was married to Teresa Davidson from 1996 to 1999. Since 1995, Ken has lived at his farmstead near Gardner.
He is survived by his mother, Karyl (Mike) O’Leary, Fargo, his father, Robert (Arlene) Knecht, Alice, one sister, Kim House, Stirum, a half-brother, Cory (Carrie) Knecht, Fargo, a half sister, Holly (Alex) Settel, Fargo, and his grandmother, Marge Raitshleger, Harvey.
Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo, was in charge of arrangements.

Alida L. Peterson
Funeral services for Alida L. Peterson, 94, Enderlin (formerly Sheldon and Lisbon), were held on Saturday, November 24, 2001 at Immanuel United Methodist Church, Sheldon. Reverend Duane Ferrie officiated. Mrs. Peterson died on Tuesday, November 20, 2001 at Hillcrest Manor, Enderlin.
Alida L. Bjornson, daughter of Swen and Kari (Barcley) Bjornson, was born on April 7, 1907 in Binford, N.D., where she grew up and attended a rural Binford school.
On December 8, 1933, she married Grant Peterson in Mose, N.D. They lived in Binford until 1950, when they moved to Sheldon. They moved to Lisbon in 1964. After her husband’s death on March 26, 1968, she began working at Parkside Home in Lisbon. She worked there for 11 years. She has resided at Hillcrest Manor in Enderlin since 1998.
She is survived by three sons, Gene (Gloria) Peterson, Fargo, Wayne (Karen) Peterson, Moose Lake, Minn., and Larry (Judy) Peterson, Aurora, Ill.; two daughters, Barbara (Richard) Perkins, Arvada, Colo. and Joyce (Don) McDougall, Sheldon; 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Grant.
Pallbearers for the funeral were all of her grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers were all of her great-grandchildren.
Music was provided by organist Carole Bjugstad and soloist Don Stansbery.
Interment at Sheldon Cemetery, Sheldon.

Teresa E. Rudolph
Funeral services for Teresa Elaine Rudolph, 60, Oakes, were held on Tuesday, November 27, 2001 at St. Charles Catholic Church, Oakes. Father Johnson Kottaram officiated. Mrs. Rudolph died on Friday, November 23, 2001 at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.
Teresa Elaine Barnes, daughter of Hilton and Catherine (Kitzinger) Barnes, was born on October 3, 1941 in Oakes. She grew up in Oakes and attended school there, graduating from Oakes High School in 1959. After school, she worked at Northwestern bell Telephone Company as an operator.
On July 25, 1964, she married Roger Rudolph at St. Charles Catholic Church, Oakes. They continued to live in Oakes where Teresa worked for Land O’ Lakes for 14 years. In 1993, she began working at Oakes Good Samaritan Center until her kidney transplant in 1998. Teresa was currently residing at the Moorhead Healthcare Center in Moorhead. She was very active as the resident council president and also baked for the facility and for special events.
She is survived by her husband, Roger Rudolph, Oakes; two sons, Nicholas (Lisa) Rudolph, Milton, Wis., and Eric (Robbin) Rudolph, Oakes; one daughter, Carla (Michael) Terrian, West Fargo; two sisters, Mary Barnes (her twin) and Shirley Barnes, both of Minneapolis; one brother, Hilton (Sandy) Barnes, Fargo; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and her grandparents.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Robert Rudolph, Edward Kuch, Lloyd Gebhardt, Kirk Miller, Wayne Hample and Tim Sullivan.
Music was provided by organist Linda Roney and soloist Anita Gebhardt.
Interment at St. Charles Catholic Cemetery, Oakes.

Clayton Severson
Memorial services for Clayton Severson, 71, Milnor, were held on Saturday, November 24, 2001 at the Milnor Community Center, Milnor. Mr. Severson died on Wednesday, November 21, 2001 at St. Francis Medical Center, Breckenridge, Minn.
Clayton Severson, son of Severt and Alice (Kraywinkle) Severson, was born on September 8, 1930 in Steele, N.D., where he grew up and attended school. After his schooling, he farmed in the Steele area.
On October 8, 1951, he married Clementine Stein at Steele. In 1958, they moved to DeLamere where they owned and operated Severson’s Bar until 1975. Clayton worked for the Melroe Company in Gwinner until he retired in 1992. They spent their winters in Arizona. He was a member of the Eagles Club in Wahpeton.
He is survived by his wife, Clementine Severson, Milnor; three sons, Gary (Maelinda) Severson, Burghill, Ohio, Duane (Joni) Severson, Lisbon, and Claude (Jodi) Severson, Milnor; one daughter, Tarra (John) Sackett, Brookings, S.D., one brother, Harvey (Ruby) Severson, Phoenix, Ariz., one sister, Hilda (Royal) Brousseau, Steele, 11 grandchildren, one great-grandson and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.
Music was provided by soloist Pat Olson.

Erling M. Skonseng
Funeral services for Erling M. Skonseng, 76, Lisbon, were held on Friday, November 23, 2001 at Standing Rock Lutheran Church, Fort Ransom. Reverend David Carlson officiated. Mr. Skonseng died Sunday, November 18, 2001, at Lisbon Medical Center, Lisbon.
Erling M. Skonseng, son of Peder Andrew and Anna Marie (Jacobson) Skonseng was born on April 29, 1925, in rural Fort Ransom. He attended school in rural Fort Ransom. Erling served in the National Guard. He farmed near Fort Ransom. He was presently residing at the N.D. Veterans Home, Lisbon. He was a member of the Lisbon and Valley City Eagles.
He is survived by one brother, John (Leona), Midway City, Calif.; one sister, Lilian Hanson, Fort Ransom.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Walter Munkeby, Kenneth Grothe, Norvald Skonseng, Hans Bjone, Glen Haugen, and Herbert Martinson.
Music was provided by organist Mary Johnson and soloists Ardell and Terry Grothe.
Interment at Standing Rock Lutheran Cemetery, Fort Ransom.
Armstrong Funeral Home, Lisbon, was in charge of arrangements.
