Milton J. Maasjo
Funeral services for Milton J. Maasjo, 83, Fingal, were held on Tuesday, February 25, 2003 in Messiah Lutheran Church, Fingal. Reverend Bradley Edin officiated. Mr. Maasjo died Thursday, February 20, 2003.
Milton Joseph Maasjo, son of Christian Rudolph and Emma (Torbenson) Maasjo was born on June 2, 1919 at Norma Township, Barnes County. He was baptized and confirmed in Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Fingal. He attended the Langemo Grade School and graduated from Fingal High School in 1938. He spent a year in the Civilian Conservation Corps in Montana, and later worked at Lockheed Airplane Factory, San Diego, Calif. He enlisted in the U.S. armed forces December 2, 1941, five days before the attack on Pearl Harbor. He was trained at several bases before he became an instructor at Chanute Field, Champaign, Ill., before going overseas with the 15th Air Force. He obtained the rank of Master Sergeant and was discharged on September 28, 1945. He returned to Fingal and began farming with his brothers in Norma Township.
On June 11, 1950, he married Virginia Nayes at the Nayes farm home, Fingal. They farmed in Norma Township until 1955 when they purchased a farm in Binghampton Township near Fingal. They retired from farming in 1983 and moved into Fingal in 1985. Milton was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church. He served on the church council, sang in the choir, and taught Sunday School for many years. He was supervisor and chairman of Binghampton Township. He was a member of the American Legion post #187 of Fingal serving as commander and as Chaplain for many years. He was a charter member of the Fingal Fire Protection District and served as secretary-treasurer for 20 years. He was on the committee that helped to organize The National Sunflower Association. In October 1992 Milton and Virginia received the Outstanding Agriculturist Award, representing Barnes County at North Dakota State University in Fargo. He was also a member of the Valley City Eagles club.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Maasjo, Fingal; one son, Marlyn Maasjo, Fingal; two daughters, Dawn (Ronald) Struxness, Naperville, Ill., and Elizabeth (Jimmy) Gay, Monroe, La.; four grandchildren; one brother, Orvis, Enderlin; and one sister, Edith (Rev. James) Brooks, Lawrenceville, Ga.; sisters-in-law, Donna Maasjo, Fargo, and Edna Maasjo, Valley City. He was preceded in death by his parents, twin brother Clarence and brother Randolph and daughter-in-law Gail Maasjo.
Interment at Memory Gardens, Valley City in the spring.

Ervin Wetzel
Funeral services for Ervin Wetzel, 73, Fargo, were held on Friday, February 28, 2003 at Eddy Funeral Chapel, Jamestown. Reverend Donald C. Crippen officiated. Mr. Wetzel died Monday, February 24, 2003 at the VA Hospital, Fargo.
Ervin Wetzel, son of Jacob and Lydia (Janke) Wetzel was born on November 14, 1929, near the village of Danzig, N.D. He grew up on the family farm in the Ashley area and attended country school.
In 1953, he married Olga Fischer. He entered to U.S. Army on May 26, 1954 in Fargo. His most significant duty assignment was at Beale Air Force Base in California. Ervin also served a tour of duty in the Alaskan theatre before being discharged on February 21, 1956 at Beale Air Force Base in California. He worked in the carpentry trade and became a master carpenter in California. Ervin returned to North Dakota in 1994 and lived in Ellendale until entering the Lisbon Veterans Home in 1999.
He is survived by one son, Mark Wetzel, California; three daughters, Kathy Mendosa, Mary Mosser, and Debbie Fries, all California; seven brothers, Reuben (Blanch) Wetzel, Bismarck, Clarence Wetzel, Bismarck, Elmer Wetzel, Bismarck, Raymond (Edna) Wetzel, Bismarck, Orville (Betty) Wetzel, Burnsville, Minn., Wilbert (Pat) Wetzel, Rosmond, Calif., Arthur (Geneva) Wetzel, New Brighton, Minn.; two sisters, Ruth Saylor, Aberdeen, and Olive Bittner, Laurel, Mont.; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Harold, Emil and Walwin.
Interment at Lehr Cemetery, Lehr, N.D.

Signe A. Schultz
Memorial services for Signe A. Schultz, 38, Forman, formerly Langford, N.D., were held on Thursday, February 27, 2003 at First Lutheran Church, Britton, S.D. Ms. Schultz died Saturday, February 22, 3003.
Signe Ann Schultz, daughter of Vernon and Gloria Schultz, was born on August 31, 1964 in Sioux Falls. She attended school in Britton, S.D., through her junior year. She moved to Green Lake Bible Camp near Spicer, Minn., and graduated from Spicer-New Holland High School in 1983. She continued school at Golden Valley (Minn.) Lutheran College and Concordia College in Moorhead.
On June 1, 1985, she married Monte Hoglund in Britton. They lived near Langford. She worked at the Marshall Manor and Spruce Court Assisted Living in Britton and as a home health aide. She moved to Forman in 1998.
She is survived by three sons, Kaden Hoglund, Heath Hoglund, and Weston Hoglund, all Langford; a daughter, Carna Hoglund, Langford; parents Vernon and Gloria Schultz, Spicer; one brother, Mathew Schultz, Willmar, Minn.; two sisters, Sonja Schultz, Fargo, and Marcy Schultz, St. Paul; grandmother, Inga Honrud, Willmar, Minn.; and a special friend and partner, Mark Reisenweber, Forman and his sons, Kyle and Benjamin Reisenweber.

Elizabeth Kuhn
Funeral services for Elizabeth “Betty” Kuhn, 71, Sauk Centre, Minn, were held on Monday, March 3, 2003 at our Lady of Angels, Sauk Centre, Minn. Mrs. Kuhn died Monday, February 24, 2003 at St. Michael’s Nursing Home, Sauk Centre, Minn.
Elizabeth Lemna, daughter of Lawrence and Margaret (Linzbach) Lemna was born on May 8, 1931 in Lisbon.
On June 28, 1952, she married Donald Kuhn in Enderlin. They lived in Gwinner, Havana, Fordville, and Page. In 1965 they moved to Grey Eagle, Minn. In 1994, the Kuhn’s moved to Glenwood, Minn. and then back to Sauk Centre in 1995.
She is survived by her husband, Don Kuhn; two sons, Jeffrey (Mary) Kuhn, Starbuck, Minn., and Thomas (Jill) Kuhn, St. Joseph, Minn.; one daughter, Mary (Tom) Bromen, Sauk Centre, Minn.; ten grandchildren; four brothers, Kenneth (Helen) Lemna, Kentland, Ind, Leo (Mary) Lemna, Enderlin, Dennis (Becky) Lemna, Enderlin, and Robert (Kathy) Lemna Enderlin; seven sisters, Helen (Harold) Tellinghusen, Rapid City, S.D., Doris Schultz, Lisbon, Joyce (Erv) Wegscheid, Perham, Minn., Margaret (Don) Chesley, Enderlin, Donna (Bob) Ikelman, Dixon, Calif., Darlene Frederick, Bismarck, Carol (Ed) Buschette, Mahnomen, Minn. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Dale and Richard, one sister, Joan, and her son, James.
Interment at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Enderlin.

Virgil G. Wiederholt
Funeral services for Virgil G. Wiederholt, 76, Hoffman, Minn., were held on Wednesday, March 5, 2003 at Our Lady of the Runestone Catholic Church, Kensington, Minn. Reverend Ken Riedemann officiated. Mr. Wiederholt died Saturday, March 1, 2003 at Douglas County Hospital, Alexandria.
Virgil George Wiederholt, son of Henry and Myrtle (Reiger) Wiederholt was born on December 12, 1926 in Ransom County. He was born and raised on the farm. He enlisted into the U.S. Army in 1946 and was honorably discharged in 1948 and served during the Korean War.
On May 24, 1952, he married Elizabeth Louise Jodsaas in Lisbon. He had many jobs and occupations during his lifetime from electrical wiring, road construction, working with heavy equipment, managing a cooperative store in Holmes City, Minn., and as a mechanic at Fingerhut Manufacturing in Alexandria, Minn., where he retired from.
He is survived by one son, Kevin (Janet) Wiederholt, Farwell, Minn.; two daughters, Virginia (Danny) Aanenson, Hoffman, Minn., and Melissa (Pat) Lee, Kensington, Minn.; three stepsons, Larry Jodsaas, Eden Prairie, Minn, Ray (Diane) Jodsaas, and Lynn (Brigitte) Jodsaas, Colorado Springs, Colo.; one stepdaughter, Darline Levang, Lisbon; 25 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one brother and sister, one grandchild and one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Travis Lee, Thomas Lee, Shane Wiederholt, Jeff Ekeren, Tim Jodsaas, Rick Jodsaas, Kenny Wiederholt, and Keith Skonseng.
Music was provided by organist Ann Zavadil and song leader Carol Keller.
Interment at Our Lady of the Runestone Catholic Church Cemetery.

Janice Bartholomay
Janice Bartholomay, 66, Sheldon, died Wednesday in her home. Armstrong Funeral Home, Enderlin, is in charge of arrangements.

Marge Myers
Funeral services for Marge Myers, 73, Enderlin, were held on Monday, March 3, 2003 at Armstrong Funeral Home, Enderlin. Reverend Leon Zavadil officiated. Mrs. Myers died in her home on Thursday, February 27, 2003.
Marge Larner, daughter of Leo and Loretta (Harris) Larner, was born May 23, 1929 in New Albany, Ind. She attended school in New Albany.
On January 18, 1947, she married Buford E. Myers in Jeffersonville, Ind. They lived in Louisville, Ky. In 1957, they moved to Sun Valley, Calif. Marge worked at Marquart in Los Angeles as the cafeteria manager. In 1987, they moved to Enderlin where they owned and operated Marge’s Sunflower Cafe.
She is survived by one son, David (Linda) Myers, Victor, Colo.; three daughters, Donna (Rich) Desimone, Reno, Nev., Cheryl (Mark) McWilliams, Coeur D’Alene, Idaho, and Bunita Patterson, Kentucky; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Leo Larner, New Albany, Ind.; three sisters, Marie Kramer, Shirley Larner and Joyce Chaffin, all of New Albany, Ind. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Buford E. Myers, who died July 30, 1997; one sister, Jean Larner; and one brother, Ed Larner.
Pallbearers for the funeral were family and friends.
Music was provided by organist Shirley Hanson.
Interment at Enderlin Cemetery, Enderlin.

Amelia “Henrietta” Bratland
Funeral services for Amelia “Henrietta” Bratland, 92, Fargo, were held on Monday, March 3, 2003 at Milnor Lutheran Church, Milnor. Reverend Jerry Carlson officiated. Mrs. Bratland died on Thursday, February 27, 2003 at Bethany Homes, Fargo.
Henrietta Hillerson, daughter of Charles W. and Serena (Pederson) Hillerson, was born on February 14, 1911 in Luverne, N.D., where she grew up and attended school. She then attended Valley City State Teachers College, Valley City. She taught school in New Salem, N.D. for a short time before teaching in Helendale Township near Leonard.
On November 29, 1939, she married Korre Bratland in Luverne. She taught in Shenford Township, south of Sheldon, for two years. Henrietta taught in Richland County, near Leonard, until their retirement in 1973 when they moved near Sheldon. Her husband, Korre died on July 2, 1984. Henrietta moved to Lisbon and also lived in Milnor before entering Bethany Homes, Fargo, in 1992. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church near Leonard, where she was active in ladies’ aid. She was also a member of the Milnor Lutheran Church, Milnor, and the Legion Auxiliary in Leonard.
She is survived by three sons, John (Rose Marie) Bratland, Bethesda, Md., Korre Bratland, Lisbon, and Roger (Kathleen) Bratland, St. Cloud, Minn.; one daughter, Karen Johnson, West Fargo; two brothers, John Hillerson and Marvin (Fay) Hillerson, all of Fargo; one sister, June (Charles) Anderson, Hope, N.D.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Korre Bratland; one daughter, Sylvia Bratland; and three brothers.
Pallbearers for the funeral were James Hillerson, David Hillerson, Gordon Hillerson, Richard Bratland, Dennis Thompson and David Thompson.
Music was provided by pianist Arlene Lillestol and soloist Patty Ellefson.
Interment at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, near Leonard.

Chuck Hartman
The funeral service for Chuck Hartman, 46, Litchville, North Dakota will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 26, 2003 at the Litchville Elementary School Gymnasium, Litchville. Rev. Robert Schaefer will officiate and burial will be in the Litchville Cemetery, rural Litchville. He died Friday, March 21, 2003 in West Yellowstone, Montana from a massive heart attack.
Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City, North Dakota. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the school.
Chuck Vernon Hartman was born April 9, 1956 in a Fargo, North Dakota hospital, the son of Mavis (Grabow) Hartman and the late Vernon Hartman. He was raised on the Hartman Family Farm south of Litchville, North Dakota with his three younger sisters. He was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Embden, North Dakota and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Litchville. Chuck attended Litchville Public School and graduated with the class of 1974. He attended North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, North Dakota. He began farming in 1975 with his father, Vernon and grandfather, Charles Hartman, Sr.
On April 8, 1978 Chuck was united in marriage to Patricia Flach, the daughter of Curt and Lucille Flach, of Litchville, North Dakota. They lived on the family farm. In 1980 Chuck and Pat opened Hartman’s Hairstyling of Litchville. Triplets were born to them on May 25, 1986. Son, Troy Curtis came home to them on November 8, 1988. On November 7, 1995 their son, Trevor Vernon joined the family.
Chuck was a member of the First Reformed Church for twenty years. He served as deacon and treasurer on the Consistory. Chuck has belonged to First Lutheran Church for four years.
He was the charter president of the Litchville Jaycees, now known as L.A. Promoters. He was an active member of the Litchville Wildlife, and The Marion Sno-Riders. He was also a member of the Litchville Fire Department for a number of years. Chuck served as a member of the Litchville-Marion School Board for 13 years. He held many offices, and was very instrumental in the merger and consolidation of the Litchville-Marion School District. Dollars for Scholars was also a program he helped begin. Chuck was a member of the Marion Equity Elevator.
Chuck enjoyed reffing grade school basketball games. He loved to snowmobile. He also was a card shark at pinochle.
His love for farming was very evident. He was the 4th generation on the Hartman farm of 103 years. Chuck enjoyed and appreciated the farming relationship he developed with his dear friend, Wayne Smith. Chuck’s quiet, strong nature had a calming, loving way with all he knew. His need for helping others was an inspiration to us all. His wife of almost 25 years Patricia Deanne, and sons, Troy and Trevor were the love of his life.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia, Litchville; two sons, Troy Curtis and Trevor Vernon, both at home; mother, Mavis (Mrs. Vernon) Hartman, Litchville; grandmother, Olive Hartman, Valley City; sisters, Tammara (Jay) Opdahl, Menoken, North Dakota, Tonette (David) Rahrich, Bismarck, North Dakota, and Stephanie (Arden) Falk, Fort Ransom, North Dakota; 1 aunt, 3 uncles; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Vernon; and infant triplet children, Allen Leigh, Alexius Sophia, and Ashley Nichole; and grandparents, Charles Hartman, Sr., and Edwin and Katharine Grabow.
Funeral arrangements are by Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City.
