Darlene L. Zimprich
Funeral services for Darlene L. Zimprich, 73, Grand Forks, N.D., were held on Tuesday, December 28, 2003 at Sharon Lutheran Church, Grand Forks. Mrs. Zimprich died Friday, December 26, 2003 at her son’s home in Grand Forks.
Darlene Zimprich, was born on January 30, 1930 in Kathryn, N.D. She lived much of her childhood and early adult years in Lisbon. She later lived in Ulen, Minn., Cando, N.D. and Grand Forks. For the past several years, she has maintained a winter residence in Mesa, Ariz.
She is survived by three sons, Joe (Debbie) Johnson, Grand Forks, Todd (Sheila) Zimprich, Sioux Falls, and Scott (Ann) Zimprich, Edina, Minn.; two daughters, Becky (Terry) Harland, Cando and Lana (Glen) Parker, Rocky Ford, Colo.; 15 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, m two brothers and three sisters. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Milton Johnson, sons, Greg Johnson and second husband Leonard Zimprich.
Interment at Jesse, N.D.
Amundson Funeral Home, Grand Forks, was in charge of arrangements.

Janice I. Cruz
Prayer services for Janice I. Cruz, 66, Fargo, were held on Tuesday, December 30, 2003 at Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead, Minn. Mrs. Cruz died Friday, December 26, 2003 at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.
Janice Ione Hunemuller, daughter Erwin and Nora (McDaniel) Hunemuller was born on July 24, 1937 in Elliott, N.D. where she grew up and graduated from high school. Janice attended Dakota Business College in Fargo. She later worked for several years at St. John’s Hospital, Fargo as a nursing assistant.
On September 24, 1958, she married Joseph Cruz, in Moorhead, Minn. The family lived in Moorhead, California and eventually made their home in Fargo. Janice worked as an a.m. cook at Bethany Homes, Fargo from 1982 to 1997.
She is survived by one son, Timothy (Rose) Cruz, Morgan Hill, Calif.; four daughters, Stephanie Hendrickson, Roberta Cruz, Dawn (Paul) Schares and Carlotta Cruz, all of Fargo; nine grandchildren; two brothers and three sisters, Richard (Evelyn Hunemuller, Albuquerque, N.M., Vonna (Andrew) Hopkins, Albuquerque, Donna Hopkins, Albuquerque, Dale (Lele) Hunemuller, Glendive, Mont. and Norrine Laughlin. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.
Korsmo Funeral Service, Moorhead, was in charge of arrangements.

Jennings M. Grotte
Funeral services for Jennings M. Grotte, 80, Enderlin, formerly Finley, N.D., were held on Friday, January 2, 2004 at the Finley American Legion, Finley, N.D. Mr. Grotte died Monday, December 29, 2003 at Maryhill Manor, Enderlin.
Jennings Melvin Grotte, son of Swen J. and Annie (Sund) Grotte was born on September 6, 1923 at Blabon, N.D. He attended school in rural Pickert, N.D. and farmed with his father.
In December, 1961 he married Esther Green in Fargo. The couple farmed in the Finley area until 1969 when they moved to Minneapolis. They returned to the Fargo-Moorhead area in 1994. Esther died July 30, 1996.
He is survived by four brothers, Ernest (Marlys) Grotte, Finley, Marvin Grotte, Minneapolis, Jon (Phyllis) Grotte, Minneapolis and Walter (Donna) Grotte, Finley; and two sisters, Jean (Beryl) Carlson, Leonard, and Fern (Thomas) Hanson, Kindred. He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther, a brother, Stanley Grotte, a sister, Edna Burchill and his parents.
Interment at St. Petri Cemetery, Pickert, N.D.
Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo, was in charge of arrangements.

Lenora Liebenow
Funeral services for Lenora Liebenow, 89, Parshall, N.D. formerly Fargo, were held on Monday, December 29, 2003 in Peace Lutheran Church, Fargo. Reverend Marvin Schoenfish officiated. Mrs. Liebenow died Wednesday, December 24, 2003 in the Rock View Good Samaritan Center, Parshall.
Lenora Schulz, daughter of Solomon and Lydia Schulz was born on March 15, 1914 in Elgin, N.D., where she grew up and attended school until moving to Arthur, N.D. in 1928.
On November 6, 1937, she married Clinton Liebenow. They lived in Weest Fargo for six years before moving to Embden where they farmed until 1950. They then moved to Enderlin and resided there until 1976. At which time they moved to Fargo. Mr. Liebenow died on December 9, 1984. Lenora moved to New Town, N.D. in 1998. She later moved to Parshall in January of 2003.
She is survived by one daughter, Marlys (Royce) Aubol, New Town; three sisters, Ella Rivinius, Bismarck, Hulda (Paul) Peck, Moorhead, Lorine Nohr, Fargo; two grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Solomon and Lydia, brothers and sisters, Edwin, Herbert, Elsie, Tillie, Albert and William.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Eric Aubol, Kevin Long, Bill Schulz, James Schulz, Lowell Liebenow, and Gene Hanson. Honorary pallbearers were Erika Long, Alexis Long, Austin Long, Wesley Aubol, Jessica Aubol and Clinton Aubol.
Music was provided by organist Margery Possehl and soloist Chris Kays.
Interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo.
West Funeral Homes, West Fargo, was in charge of arrangements.

Donald C. Holand
Donald C. Holand, 90 Fargo, died December 26, 2003 at SCCI Hospital in Fargo. He requested that no formal service be held. There will be a family and friends memorial gathering at a later time.
Donald C. Holand was born on April 25, 1913 in McKinley on the Minnesota Iron Range. He moved to Grand Forks with his family in 1927. Following graduation from Grand Forks Central High School, he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Education at the University of North Dakota. He first served as principal and then as superintendent at Drayton, N.D. and as school superintendent at Lancaster, Minn. before returning to UND in 1940 to pursue a law degree. Holand was drafted into the military service before finishing law school. At the end of four years of service, he was in India (CBI Theatre) and was the Executive Office of a B-25 weather reconnaissance squadron. After the military he completed a final year of law school, part of which was taken at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. while on the staff of U.S. Senator Milton R. Young.
In 1947, he married Lenore Jensen of Grand Forks. They moved to Lisbon in 1948, where he practice law for 21 years. While there he served as States Attorney for Ransom County prior to being elected to the North Dakota Senate in 1955. He represented Ransom County for 16 years before moving to Fargo in 1970. That year he was elected to the Senate from Fargo and retired from the Legislature in 1975. While in the Senate, he served as Chairman of the Education Committee and the Legislative Council. He as the Majority Floor Leader for about 10 years. Holand was always civic-minded. In Lisbon, he was president of the local Civic & Commerce Association, the Kiwanis Club and the golf club during reconstruction of the course in the late 60s. In Fargo, his activities included service on the boards and as president of the Fargo-Moorhead YMCA and The Village Foundation and on the board of Fargo Kiwanis. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Masons and Sons of Norway. In 1989 received the Sioux Award from the University of North Dakota for distinguished achievements.
He is survived by two sons, Stephen (Rebecca) Holand, North Oaks, Minn. and David Holand, Bozeman, Mont. and a special friend, Shirley Berg. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lenore in 1990.

Marcella J. Michaelis
Funeral services for Marcella J. Michaelis, 83, Lisbon, formerly Binford, N.D., were held on Monday, December 29, 2003 at West Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Binford. Reverend David Isaacson officiated. Mrs. Michaelis died Monday, December 22, 2003 at Parkside Home, Lisbon.
Marcella Larson, daughter of Andrew and Mary (Aslakson) Larson was born on August 24, 1920 in Binford, N.D. She attended rural Binford School.
On June 10, 1943, she married Harold Michaelis in rural Binford. They lived in Anaconda, Mont. for a shorty time before returning to the Binford area where they farmed until retiring in 1988. He died September 6, 1989. After Harold’s death Marcella moved to Lisbon.
She is survived by one son, Arvid (Ruby) Michaelis, Mayville, N.D. and one daughter, Linda (Robert) Schwab, Englevale. She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, Arnold, two sisters and two brothers.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Richard Michaelis, James Michaelis, Mike Sola, Orvilla Pittenger, David Vincent and Danny Larson.
Music was provided by organist Donna Ronningen and soloist Paul Adrian.
Interment at West Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Binford.

Lloyd P. Nelson
Funeral services for Lloyd P. Nelson, 85, Lisbon, were held on Tuesday, December 30, 2003 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lisbon. Reverend Norman Anderson officiated. Mr. Nelson died Friday, December 26, 2003 at Parkside Home, Lisbon.
Lloyd P. Nelson, son of Oscar and Christina (Peterson) Nelson was born on August 17, 1918 in Belvidere, Ill. He attended Aliceton Consolidated School and graduated from Lisbon High School in 1936. His mother died during the flu epidemic when he was four months old. He came to North Dakota to live with his aunt and uncle, Nels and Selma Peterson. He started farming the family farm near Lisbon in 1939. They wintered in Arizona for many years.
On November 15, 1945, he married Bess Holen, in Forman. Lloyd was a member of Zion Lutheran Church near Lisbon until it closed. He had been the organist at Zion for many years. He then joined Trinity Lutheran Church in Lisbon. He was also an associate member of Queen Valley Lutheran Church in Queen Valley, Ariz.
He is survived by his wife, Bess, Lisbon; one son, David (LaVerne) Nelson, Lisbon; one daughter, Pamela (William) Olson, Grand Forks; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren;, two brothers, Roy (Dorothy) Nelson, Beloit, Wis. and Donald (Esther) Nelson, Belvidere, Ill., one sister, Elsie (Mike) Kohler, Maderia Beach, Fla. and his mother-in-law, Annie Holen, New Hope, Minn. He was preceded in death by a daughter Christine and a granddaughter, Amy.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Christina Larson, Sarah Crain, Kris Nelson, Erik Olson, Karly Olson, and Miranda Olson.
Music was provided by organist Jan Hansen and special music by Alan and Julie Qual.
Interment at Zion Lutheran Cemetery. rural Lisbon.

Mary Jane Ike
Mary Jane Ike, 52 of 128 Kirk Rd., Ray City, Ga. passed away late Monday night, December 22, 2003 in the V.A. Medical Center in Lake City. Fla.
She was born in Lisbon on March 27, 1951, graduated from Lisbon High School and joined the U.S. Air Force in 1969 served approximately three years. She then served with the National Guard until ill health forced her retirement. She was Catholic by faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Richard and Vincent Wiederholt, and two sisters, Patricia Johnson and Kay Daughtery.
Survivors include her partner, Sam Johnson, Ray City, Ga.; sister and partner, Margaret Siegler (Keith Linstaedt) Jamestown, three brother and sister-in-laws, Michael and Linda Wiederholt, Evansville, Wyo., Joseph Wiederholt (Pete Dale) Alexandria, La., and Kenneth and Lori Wiederholt, Gwinner; and a number of nieces and nephews.
At her request she will be cremated with her cremains buried at a later date in Lisbon.
