Grace L. Melliger, age 95 of Columbus died Wednesday; August 29, 2001at her home in Columbus.Funeral services are 1:00 p.m. Tuesday; September 4, 2001at Grace Episcopal Church in Columbus. The Rev. Andrew Wright will officiate. Visitation will be Tuesday 8:00 am until 11:00 am at the McKown Funeral Home. Visitation will continue from 12:00 noon until service time at the Church. Burial will be at the Rose Hill Cemetery located in Albion, Nebraska. A lunch will be held prior to the burial at the church. All family and friends are invited. Grace L. Melliger was born November 7, 1905 in Albion, Nebraska to Fred A. and Fanny (Thome) Field. She received her early education at rural Boone County Schools and graduated from Albion High School in 1925. She married Ray Kincanon in 1926. To this union one son was born. In 1943 she married George L. Lemon. George died in 1968. In June of 1977 she married Albert Melliger in David City, Nebraska. Albert died in 1984. Grace owned and operated the "Hut Cafe" in Albion for 5 years. Grace moved to Columbus in the early 1950's. She then owned the "Town Pump" in Columbus for 23 years until her retirement. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Columbus, Nebraska. Grace is survived by:

Frank E. Stachura, 69, of Columbus died Wednesday August 29, 2001 at Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral services are 9:30 am on Saturday September 1 at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Columbus. Visitation will be on Friday after 3 pm at McKown Funeral Home with a vigil service at 7:30 pm at the funeral home. Visitation will continue on Saturday from 8-9 am at McKown Funeral Home. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery with Military Honors by Hartman Post # 84 American Legion Honor Guard. A lunch will follow at the Knights of Columbus Hall. Frank Emanuel Stachura was born April 4, 1932 on the family farm near Duncan, Nebraska to Emanuel and Caroline (Sock) Stachura. He married Julia E. Yrkoski on September 22, 1954 at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church-Krakow. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War serving in the Military Police. He worked in shoe sales and repair for 25 years. He later worked in school maintenance at Platte College and Scotus High School until retiring. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post #3704 and St. Isidore Catholic Church. Frank enjoyed hunting, fishing, World War II history, traveling and wintering in Texas.

Michael James Cline, age 51, of Columbus died Tuesday; August 28, 2001 at his home. Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Friday; August 31, 2001at the McKown Funeral Home. The Rev. Michael James Cline was born January 8th, 1950 in Port Hueneme, California to Clayton & Bonnie (Cloud) Cline. He graduated from Columbus High School in 1968. He married Shirley Marquart on March 2, 1969. He lived in Columbus and served in the Army National Guard 143rd Infantry from 1970-1976. He was currently working at Sapp Brothers in Columbus. He formerly owned and operated Columbus Auction Company. He worked for 18 years at Henke Manufacturing and later at Greystone and at Bob & Toots in Columbus. She graduated from Clarkson High School in 1928. On September 8, 1930 Rose was united in marriage to Jerry Frank Tuma in Schuyler, Nebraska. The couple lived in Colfax County until moving to Octavia in 1948. They also lived in Madison, Nebraska for 3 years until 1965 when they moved to Columbus. Graveside Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Tekamah Cemetery in Tekamah, Nebraska. Services will be performed by Reverend Harun Gatobu and the Tekamah Masonic Lodge. Chester D. Snow was born January 28, 1918 in Competition, Missouri to Pleas and Margaret (Finley) Snow. He graduated from Tekamah High School in Tekamah, Nebraska. On August 1, 1938 he was united in marriage to Arlene Elliott in Logan, Iowa. The couple lived in farmed in Tekamah until moving to Columbus in 1965 where Chester worked for Behlen Manufacturing. Stack was born March 21, 1935 in Butte, Montana to Charles H. and Ione (Craver) Stack. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Western Montana College and his Master of Education Degree from the University of Montana. On April 30, 1960 Charles was united in marriage to Donna White at Butte, Montana. He lived in Omaha for 20 years before moving to Columbus in 1996. Charles was Manager of Organizational Effectiveness & Change Management for Nebraska Public Power District in Columbus. He was a member of Highland Park Evangelical Free Church and active in Promise Keepers. He was a board member for the Boy's Club, Children U.S.A. board member & active with School Booster Clubs. She attended school in rural Bellwood and graduated from Octavia High School. Following high school she baby sat and worked as a hired girl for several area families. She then worked at Woolworths Dime Store in Columbus. Elaine married George Borchers June 30, 1951 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for 60 years where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was a member of the Trinity Circle and Quilters Ladies. He received his early education at Nance County School #43. He then attended Fullerton High School.Emil served in the Civilian Conservation Corp prior to his enlistment in the Army. He served in the United States Army during WWII from September 10, 1942 until October 30, 1945. On January 15, 1947 he married Irene F. Lesiak at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Krakow. He farmed from 1948 until 1954 when he began working at the Co-op in Bellwood. He worked there for 18 years until his retirement in 1983.He also worked for several years for Van Berg Farms. He was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church in Bellwood, American Legion #327 in Bellwood, and a life member of The VFW Post #3704 in Columbus . Eva Catherine Shirey, 95, of Columbus died Thursday, December 20 at Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral service will be held on Friday December 28 at St. John the Baptist Church in New Haven, IN. Visitation will be on Sunday December 23 from 2-6 pm at McKown Funeral Home with a vigil service set for 4 pm with Rev. Joseph A. Miksch officiating. Interment will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in New Haven. Eva was born January 24, 1906 in St. Mary's, Nebraska to Charles and Catherine (Haferland) Magsamen. She grew up in Pierce and worked at the Immaculata Monastery in Norfolk. In 1937 she married Elmer Shirey. The couple lived in Fort Wayne, IN where she was a homemaker. After her husband retired they moved to Wildwood, Fl where she lived for 42 years. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Wildwood. She was a past member of Barracks 3426 Women's Auxiliary, Wildwood Homemakers Club, Wildwood Garden Club, and St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Women's Council. Survivors include one sister, Catherine Herchenbach of Columbus and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, seven brothers, and four sisters. Meryl was born June 11, 1913 in Newman Grove, Nebraska to Bertel and Agnes (Duhachek) Nelson. She received her education in Newman Grove. Following her education she moved with her family to California. On December 7, 1937 she married Ralph Potts in Yuma, Arizona. She and Ralph continued living in the Los Angeles area until 1947 when they returned to the Tilden, Nebraska area. In 1957 they moved to Columbus where they lived for many years before moving to Arizona for 5 years. In the early 1990's they returned to Columbus where she has lived since. Along with raising her family, Meryl worked for 12 years at Dale Electronics. She was also a hostess for many years at Louie's Restaurant in Columbus. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Columbus. She belonged to the Western Guild Circle and delivered Meals on Wheels. Funeral Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday January 3, 2002 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Duncan, Nebraska with Reverend Joseph A. Miksch officiating. Burial will be in the St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Visitation is from 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Wednesday at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus and after 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at St. Stanislaus Church. Vera R. Brand, age 72, of Silver Creek, Nebraska died Wednesday December 5, 2001 at Lincoln LGH West in Lincoln, Nebraska. Funeral Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday December 5, 2001 at the United Methodist Church in Silver Creek with Reverend Bev Minor officiating. Burial will be in the Silver Creek Cemetery. Brand was born April 25, 1929 in Gage County, NE to John & Mabel (Van Winkle) Andrews. She married Charles Brand on June 30, 1947 in Marysville, KS. She lived all of her married life in Silver Creek. She worked at Dale Electronics in Columbus for 17 years before owning and operating Vera's Cafe in Silver Creek until 1994 when she sold the business due to illness. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Silver Creek, the United Methodist Women, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She is survived by:

Willard Lee Graham, age 72, of #22 E. Sandy Ridge Road, Duncan Lakes, rural Duncan, Nebraska died Friday December 28, 2001 at his home. Mr. Graham's body was cremated. Memorial Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday January 5, 2002 at Metz Mortuary Chapel in York, Nebraska with Reverend Gary Main officiating. Private family burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in York, Nebraska. Family will receive friends on Friday from 4:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus. Willard Lee Graham was born September 30, 1929 at home in York, Nebraska to Marion Wm. and Clara E. (Thelander) Graham. He attended York City Schools and graduated from York High School in 1947. On June 30, 1950 he was united in marriage to Jane D. Wendell at her home in York, Ne. This union was blessed with a daughter Shelley S. and a son Mark A. Graham. He had worked for the Burlington Railroad. He was in the army during the Korean Conflict from 1951 - 1953. Upon his return from the service he became a printer with the T. C. Lord Co., Gillen Inc. and North Printing Co. in York. On June 1, 1970 he joined the printing department of Nebraska Public Power District office at Columbus, Ne. He later became the printing foreman until his retirement in 1987. He and his wife Jane then moved to Duncan Lakes near Duncan, Ne. to spend their retirement years. He was a member of the York Legion Bolton Post #19, the United Methodist Church in Columbus and has been an active member of the Duncan lake Community Association. His hobby of carpentry and helping friends with their projects brought him great joy. He is survived by:

Hirschbrunner was born March 19, 1928 in Winnebago, Minnesota to Gerald and Mable (Dunlap) Benschoter. She attended Winnebago Public Schools. Barbara married LuVerne R. Carlson on December 2, 1946. She later married Charles L. Hirschbrunner. Barbara was employed at Dale Electronics for over 31 years until retiring. She was a member of the Dales Retirement Club. She is survived by:

Cecilia A. Schmid, age 95, of Columbus, Ne. died Sunday February 18, 2001 at the Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday February 21, 2001 at St. Isidore Catholic Church with Fr. Joseph A. Miksch officiating. Burial will be in the St. Bonaventure Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will begin after 4:00 p.m. Tuesday at McKown Funeral Home. A Vigil Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. also at the funeral home. Cecilia A. Schmid was born November 21, 1905 near Humphrey, Nebraska to August and Anna (Ripp) Hamling. She attended school at St. Mary's near Humphrey. She married Herman Schmid on September 15, 1925 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. The couple lived on a farm near Humphrey until moving to Columbus in 1927. Cecilia was a homemaker and enjoyed doing volunteer work. She was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church and the Christian Women. She is survived by:
