U.S., Obituary Collection, 1930-Current

Lillian Laudenklos

ST. EDWARD -- Lillian Laudenklos, 93, of St. Edward died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998, at Cloverlodge Care Center in St. Edward.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist-Presbyterian Church in St. Edward. The Rev. Eric Biehl will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery in St. Edward.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Miller-Levander Funeral Home in St. Edward. Memorials are suggested to the family.

Mrs. Laudenklos was born on July 14, 1904, on a farm east of St. Edward to John and Amelia (Justus) Fritzges. She was educated at Boone County District 10 School northwest of St. Edward.

She married William Laudenklos on Nov. 1, 1923, at Council Bluffs, Iowa. They lived and farmed near St. Edward and surrounding communities. She was a homemaker. They retired from the farm and moved to St. Edward in 1982. She moved to Cloverlodge Care Center in St. Edward on April 17, 1996.

Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Lorene "Tootie" (Mrs. Ralph) Labenz of St. Edward; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Lloyd; one granddaughter, four brothers and six sisters.

Eric Pedersen

BOELUS -- Eric Pedersen, 84, of Boelus died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Dannebrog. The Rev. Rob Pearson will officiate. Burial will be in the Loup Forks cemetery near Boelus.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul.

Clarence Van Ostrand

YORK -- Clarence E. Van Ostrand, 84, of York died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998, at York.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in York. The Rev. James Divis will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery in York.

Visitation will be after 5 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary service, Thursday at Metz Mortuary in York.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Mr. Van Ostrand was born on Jan. 13, 1913, southwest of York to Royal and Elsie (Condreay) Van Ostrand.

He married Theresia Gabel on May 22, 1946, at Shelby.

He was a longtime Polk and Merrick County farmer and was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in York. He was a World War II veteran.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Charles Van Ostrand of Grand Island; one daughter, Lynda (Mrs. Paul) Jasa of Table Rock; five grandchildren; and two brothers, Roland Van Ostrand of Sycamore, Ill., and Arthur Van Ostrand of Fort Worth, Texas.

Jerald VanWinkle

OMAHA -- Jerald Lee VanWinkle, 64, formerly of Central City, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 1998, at the Omaha Veterans Home.

Services are pending for Monday at Solt Funeral Home in Central City.

James Usasz

HAMPTON, Va. -- James Louis Usasz, 64, of Hampton, Va., formerly of Spalding and Ericson, died Dec. 22, 1997.

Services were Tuesday at Hayden Smith Funeral Home in Hampton. The Rev. Eddie G. Heath officiated. Burial was in Parklawn Memorial Park.

Mr. Usasz was born in Spalding and had lived in Hampton since 1967.

He retired from a civil service position at the Little Creek Naval Amphibious Base in 1997 after 15 years. He was the current governor of Moose Lodge 1514 in Hampton.

Survivors include three daughters, Teresa (Mrs. Timothy) Seekins of Hampton, Tammy (Mrs. Perry) Douglas Mobley of Live Oak, Fla., and Pamela (Mrs. Corey) Grojean of Hampton; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Vernice Psota of Ord and Irene Schutt of Fort Lupton, Colo.; and two brothers, Anton Usasz of Grand Island and Edward Usasz of St. Lucia, Australia.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice B. Usasz.

Theodore Bielfeldt

Theodore "Ted" Bielfeldt, 79, of Grand Island died Monday, Feb. 23, 1998, at his home.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. Pauls Lutheran Church. The Rev. Joel Schr'der will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to the Shriners Crippled Children's Hospital or the donor's choice.

Mr. Bielfeldt was born on Dec. 8, 1918, on a farm near Wood River to Jacob and Bertha (Russ) Bielfeldt. When he was 5 years old, his mother died. He was raised by his grandparents and two aunts in Grand Island. He attended school in Grand Island.

He entered the U.S. Army on March 26, 1943, and served during World War II in the 8th Armored Company C. He was discharged on Jan. 6, 1946, at Fort Leavenworth, Kan. Following his active duty, he was held over to be a German interpreter.

He married Winifred Wilson in 1938 at Smith Center, Kan. The couple lived in California and moved in 1953 to Grand Island, where he worked for Cates Tires, the Union Pacific Railroad and the Bureau of Reclamation. He established Bielfeldt Texaco Service Station on South Locust in 1957. He retired in July 1977. Mrs. Bielfeldt died in 1977.

Mr. Bielfeldt married Maxine A. Moore on July 24, 1982, at Grand Island.

He was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church, American Legion, Elks, Union Pacific Employees Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Heart Rehab at the YMCA and Grand Island Saddle Club. He was a charter member of the Sheriff's Posse. He also drove the handicap bus for the Special Olympics for many years.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Steve Bielfeldt of Lakewood, Colo.; two stepsons, Mark Moore and Richard Moore, both of Loveland, Colo.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Besides his first wife, he was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Barbara Cook; and two grandchildren.

Marie Bilon

Marie E. Bilon, 85, of Lakeview Rehab/Nursing Center died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 1998, at the center.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the First Christian Church. The Rev. Richard Bacon will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.

There will be no visitation. Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials are suggested to the church or the special care unit of Lakeview Rehab/Nursing Center.

Mrs. Bilon was born on Oct. 27, 1912, at Nowata County, Okla., to Phineas L. and Effie E. (McMasters) VanBuskirk. She grew up and was educated in Kansas. She left school to care for younger family members after her mother died. She moved to Grand Island in 1930 to care for a sick aunt.

She married Harold Bates on Sept. 13, 1930, at Grand Island. She worked at Wolbach's Department Store and then was a dental assistant until her retirement. Mr. Bates died on Oct. 13, 1958.

She married Edward E. Bilon on Aug. 12, 1975, at Las Vegas. Mr. Bilon died on May 15, 1978.

Mrs. Bilon was a member of the First Christian Church and Christian Women's Fellowship. She was active in the Parent-Teacher Association and Girl Scouts. She also taught Sunday school.

Survivors include two daughters, Doris Lueth of Grand Island and Barbara Riley of Wakita, Okla.; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Ethel Ulrickson of Lyons, Kan., and Winifred Mahaffey of Wichita, Kan.

Besides her two husbands, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Phyllis Greenwood; a great-granddaughter; four sisters and three brothers.

Emilie Christensen

Emilie Jeanette Christensen, 54, of Grand Island died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Jim Keyser will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.

She was born on Dec. 26, 1943, at Grand Island to Edwin and Lyda (Gleason) Christensen. She grew up and was educated in Grand Island Public Schools and graduated from Senior High in 1963.

She lived in Grand Island all of her life. She worked for Model Laundry and Delicious Foods.

She attended Trinity United Methodist Church. She enjoyed crafts, watching sports on TV and her dog.

Survivors include her mother, of Grand Island; a brother, Larry Christensen of Grand Island; and five sisters, Jean Koch, Evelyn Riblett, Jan Aldrich and Juliann Thornton, all of Grand Island, and Julia Lange of Gibbon.

She was preceded in death by her father.
