U.S., Obituary Collection, 1930-Current

'Peggy' Wallin

HASTINGS -- Beulah O. "Peggy" Wallin, 81, of Hastings died Monday, Feb. 22, 1999, at her home.

A prayer service will be held Friday at 7 p.m. at Butler-Volland Chapel in Hastings with the Rev. Richard A. Kothe officiating. Burial will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in Rose Hill Evangelical Free Cemetery, in Newman Grove, with the Rev. Clifford Branson officiating. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. until the prayer service on Friday.

Memorials are suggested to the family. Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Wallin was born April 3, 1917, in Boone County to Peter and Hazel (James) Haave, Sr. She married John A. Wallin on Dec. 3, 1936 in Brainerd, Minn. They moved to Hastings from Newman Grove in 1952.

She worked at the Naval Ammunition Depot, Bruckman Rubber and retired from the Hastings Regional Center.

Survivors include three sons, Milan J. Wallin, Wendell W. Wallin, and Charles A. Wallin, all of Hastings; eight grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and one brother, Peter Haave, Jr., of Ojai, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John, and one sister, Lavern Conner.

'Florence' Weeks

SCOTIA -- Mary "Florence" Weeks, 94, of Scotia died Monday, Feb. 22, 1999, at the Howard County Memorial Hospital in St. Paul.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Scotia United Methodist Church. The Rev. Melanie Adams will officiate. Burial will be in the Mt. Hope cemetery at Scotia. Visitation will be from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Ord Memorial Chapel.

Memorials are suggested to the Greeley Care Home, Scotia Rescue Unit or to the Scotia United Methodist Church. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Weeks was born Oct. 28, 1904, to Albert and Maude (Dunkelberger) Beck at Greenborder, three miles south of Horace in Greeley County. When she was 3, the family moved to the Beck home place in Wallace Creek one and a half miles northeast of Scotia. She was educated at Scotia and graduated from Scotia Consolidated High School in 1924.

She married George Weeks on Feb. 28, 1929, at Scotia. They lived west of Scotia for one year before moving to Grand Island, later to Wood River, and then back to Grand Island. They then moved to Custer County near Sumner for three years. In 1934, they moved to Scotia and since 1949 lived five miles northeast of Scotia. Mr. Weeks died Feb. 5, 1982. For the past five years, she has lived at the Greeley Care Home.

She was a lifetime member of the Scotia United Methodist Church and belonged to the Neighborly Neighbors Club.

Survivors include six sons, Luther Weeks of Scotia, Ethan Weeks of Algonquin, Ill., Daniel Weeks of Grand Island, James Weeks of Narragansett, R.I., David Weeks of Scotia, Calvin Weeks of Waverly; one daughter, Ellen Weeks of Scotia; 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry and Clyde Beck.

Bernice Riecker

BEATRICE -- Bernice Riecker, 86, of Beatrice died Tuesday, Feb. 23, 1999, at her home.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the Community Room of the Regency Retirement Residence of Beatrice. The Rev. Jimmy Shelbourn will officiate. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be until 9:30 p.m. Thursday at Fox Funeral Home in Beatrice and one hour preceding services Friday at the Regency Retirement Residence.

Memorials are suggested to the Relay For Life.

Mrs. Riecker was born May 2, 1912, at Grand Island. She graduated from Grand Island High School and worked at Wolbachs in Grand Island for several years.

She married William Ford Riecker on July 3, 1937, at Grand Island. They lived in various Nebraska communities where her husband worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. They lived in Fremont for a time and she worked as a dental assistant for L.L. Gausman. She was later employed at Paul's Hallmark Shop. She moved to Beatrice in May 1994 to be near her daughter, Sara.

Survivors include two daughters, Susan (Mrs. Don) Hanna of Brownlee and Sara Miley of Beatrice; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and a special friend, Gloria Smethers of Beatrice.

She was preceded in death by her husband on May 16, 1969, and a sister, Irene Arnold.

Nadeane Trudeau

LAVISTA - Nadeane A. Trudeau, 67, of LaVista died Monday, Feb. 22, 1999, at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spalding. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery at Spalding. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Scheef Funeral Home in Spalding. Rosaries will be at 4:30 and 8 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the church.

Survivors include two sons, Nelson of LaVista and Bruce of Millard; four grandchildren; and three sisters, Marcella Sheets and her twin sister, Noreen (Mrs. Ben) Biederman, both of Canon City, Colo., and Carolyn Bernt of Greeley.

Isaac Bergen

Isaac "Ike" Bergen, 78, formerly of Aurora, died Monday, March 8, 1999, at the Grand Island Veterans Home.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora. The Rev. Karl Larson will officiate. Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary.

He is survived by two daughters, Marilyn Ratzlaff of Bradshaw and Karen Jackson of Mound, Minn.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Alma Siemens of Hesston, Kan.

Clifford Gr'lz

HASTINGS -- Clifford Gr'lz, 77, of Hastings died Sunday, March 7, 1999, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora. The Rev. Al Duminy will officiate. Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary.

Mr. Gr'lz was born on Feb. 16, 1922, at Stockham to William and Jessie (Leymaster) Gr'lz. He was educated at Prairie Gem School and Trumbull High School.

He was mentally handicapped and spent most of his life in institutions.

He was a member of the Christian faith.

Survivors include two brothers, Boyd of Northglenn, Colo., and Howard of San Jose, Calif.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Byron and Clifton.

Vivian Holloway

BURWELL -- Vivian Holloway, 84, of Burwell died Thursday, March 4, 1999, at her daughter's home in Eugene, Ore., after failing health for the past six months.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First Christian Church in Burwell with the Rev. Rolly Salts officiating. Burial will be in Cottonwood cemetery in Burwell.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Eberle-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell.

Memorials are suggested to the church.

Mrs. Holloway was born on Jan. 31, 1915, at Greenwood to Joseph E. and Catherine (Laughlin) Gavin. As a young child, she moved with her family to Burwell, where she graduated from Burwell High School.

She married Everett Holloway on June 17, 1934, at Bartlett. They farmed until 1956, when they opened Burwell Hatchery and Feed Store.

She was a lifetime member of her church, past president of the Workers and led singing at the nursing home. She loved to play bridge.

Survivors include two daughters, Nancy (Mrs. Jack) Hough of Eugene, Ore., and Julie (Mrs. David) Garcia of Redlands, Calif.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and two sisters, Virginia Shafer and Beth Winger.

Ivar Larson

STROMSBURG -- Ivar Gustaf Larson, 83, of Stromsburg died Friday, March 5, 1999, at the York General Hospital.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Stromsburg Cemetery. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Stromsburg.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Palmer Funeral Home in Stromsburg.

Mr. Larson was born on Dec. 23, 1915, at a farm northwest of Clarinda, Iowa, to Mr. and Mrs. Charles Larson. He left the farm in 1937 and worked as a stationary engineer in Omaha until he was inducted into the military in 1942.

He married Hildor Londborg on Feb. 28, 1942, in Omaha. They lived in Oklahoma, Texas and Kentucky for the first four years of their marriage. After Mr. Larson was discharged from the U.S. Army, the couple settled in Omaha.

There he continued his education at Creighton University, graduating in 1951. He later worked in the accounting department at the Metropolitan Utilities District in Omaha for 29 years.

He retired in 1980, and the family moved to Stromsburg. There he worked part time at Midwest Covenant Home for five years.

He served on the Open Door Mission Board, sang in the church choir, served on the church board and taught Sunday school with his wife for 20 years. He also served on the Lay Witness Missions.

Survivors include a sister, Agnes Frisk of Dallas, Texas; and one brother, Leonard Larson of Clarinda, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his wife, one sister and one brother.
