U.S., Obituary Collection, 1930-Current

Gertrude M. Fritz

Spalding -- Gertrude M. Fritz, 83, of Spalding died Thursday, Nov. 5, 1998, at Boone County Health Center in Albion after a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spalding. The Revs. Frank Hoelck and James Murphy will officiate. Burial will be in St. Michael's cemetery in Spalding.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m., with rosaries at 4:30 and 8 p.m., Sunday at Dolce Scheef Mortuary in Spalding.

Mrs. Fritz was born on Dec. 29, 1914, at Oakdale to Patrick and Charlotte (Knapp) Tierney. She was educated in Oakdale.

She married James Gorney. He died in 1961.

She married Clarence Fritz in 1964. They farmed north of Spalding for many years. She was a cook at Spalding Public School and Spalding Livestock Market.

She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and St. Ann's Altar Society.

Survivors include a sister, Grace Johnson of Oakdale.

She was preceded in death by her husbands; four brothers, Frank, George, John and Mike; and six sisters, Liz, Nellie, Mary, Laura, Stella and Millie.

Daniel Glenn

MERNA -- Daniel Glenn, 22, of Merna died Thursday, Nov. 5, 1998, in Broken Bow.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in Sunset Memorial Park Chapel in Norman, Okla. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.

Mr. Glenn was born on June 25, 1976, in Oklahoma City, Okla., to Winston and Pamala (Brawdy) Glenn. He attended school in Moore, Okla. He had done construction work.

Survivors include his mother, of Merna; his father, of Webbers Falls, Okla.; two sisters, Tammy Adams of Denver and Shelia Stevens of Merna; and grandparents, Winston and Martha Glenn of Merna and James and Roberta Brawdy of Maude, Okla.

John Lewis

BURWELL -- John Douglas "Doug" Lewis, 74, of Burwell died Thursday, Nov. 5, 1998, at his home.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Burwell. The Rev. Roger Gillming will officiate. Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Ulysses cemetery in Ulysses, Kan.

Eberle-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials are suggested to the American Legion Post 298 Chair Lift Fund in Burwell or the Nebraska Christian School in Central City.

Mr. Lewis was born on Aug. 19, 1924, in Grant County, Kan., to John H. and Lucille R. (Towler) Lewis. He moved with his family to Nebraska during the Dust Bowl. He attended Sargent High School for three years before the family moved back to Ulysses, Kan., to farm. He graduated from Ulysses High School.

He married Barbara McGillivray on Feb. 5, 1944, in Garden City, Kan. Mr. Lewis farmed with his father for four years. The couple moved back to Nebraska in March 1949 and purchased a ranch in the Calamus River Valley.

Mr. Lewis was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association, Farm Bureau and Methodist Church and a charter member of the Elks of Ord. He loved horses and hunting and went fishing at Lake McConaughy every year. He loved football. His family hosted a Fourth of July celebration at the ranch every year.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Patricia (Mrs. Dave) Mitchell and Phyllis (Mrs. Rowan) Ballagh, both of Amelia; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two brothers, Ed Lewis of Ulysses, Kan., and Richard Lewis of Hugoton, Kan.; and twin sisters, Myrtle (Mrs. Ev) Ferris of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Mable Petet of Uehling.

He was preceded in death by one son, John Douglas "Rusty" Lewis Jr.

Harold Naeve

ALBION -- Harold P. Naeve, 77, of Albion died Friday, Nov. 6, 1998, at Boone County Health Center in Albion.

Funeral services are pending with Levander Funeral Home in Albion.

Harriet Radil

ORD -- Harriet Radil, 80, of Ord died Friday, Nov. 6, 1998, at Omaha.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Ord United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Miller officiating. Burial will be in the Ord Bohemian Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Ord Memorial Chapel.

Ida Zedicher

CLARKS -- Ida A. Zedicher, 72, of rural Clarks died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998, in a traffic accident east of Central City.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Osceola. The Rev. Robert Berlie will officiate. The body has been cremated, and there will be no burial.

Kepner-Roberts Funeral Home in Osceola is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Zedicher was born on Aug. 21, 1926, in York to Charles and Christina (Altberg) Jenkins. She graduated from Stromsburg High School in 1944.

She married Billie Zedicher on July 23, 1945, in Belleville, Kan. She was a custodian for the Osceola public schools and a receptionist for Dr. H.S. Eklund in Osceola.

She was a member of the Osceola United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and the F.A.N. Extension Club.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Nick of Columbus; three daughters, Kathy (Mrs. David) Otteman of Scribner, Christinia (Mrs. Mark) Larreau of Norman and Marcia (Mrs. Max) Shelton of Red Cloud; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Anna May Doremus of Hastings; and two brothers, Dale Jenkins of Belvidere, S.C., and Robert Jenkins of St. Woodland, Calif.

She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, two brothers and a sister.

Mildred Foote

PALM DESERT, Calif. -- Mildred L. Foote, 93, of Palm Desert, Calif., formerly of St. Edward, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998, at the Manor Care Nursing Center in Palm Desert.

Funeral services are pending with Miller-Levander Funeral Home in St. Edward.

Arthur Welch

Chicago -- Arthur Welch, 67, of Chicago died Friday, Nov. 6, 1998, in Greeley.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Elba with the Revs. Larry Coulter and Robert Foster and Larry Fenton officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic cemetery in Elba.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m., with a vigil service at 7 p.m., Monday at Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Harvey Larsen

Harvey O. Larsen, 72, of Grand Island, died Friday, Oct. 23, 1998 at St. Francis Memorial Health Center.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the United Congregational Church in Grand Island. Rev. Lonnie Logan will officiate. Burial will be in the Westlawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to the family.
