U.S., Obituary Collection, 1930-Current

Wanda Miller

EUGENE, Ore. -- Wanda Jean Miller, 41, of Eugene, Ore., died unexpectedly Tuesday, July 7, 1998, at her parents' home in Grand Island.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home in Grand Island. The Rev. William Voelker will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the family or the American Heart Association.

Miss Miller was born on June 24, 1957, at Helena, Mont., to Karl and Helen (Donohue) Miller. She grew up and was educated at Glasgow, Mont., graduating from Glasgow Senior High School in 1975. She worked at part-time jobs before moving to Nebraska in 1978. While in Nebraska, she worked as a telemarketer and as a nursing home attendant. She moved in 1995 to Eugene, where she was attending college.

She was a member of the Lutheran faith. She also attended church in Eugene. She enjoyed reading, crafts and helping others.

Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Helen and Wayne Stearley of Grand Island; three brothers, Charles Miller of Lincoln and Ronnie Miller and Gary Stearley, both of Grand Island; one sister, Debra K. Parker of Grand Island; and five stepsisters, Susan Hunter of Omaha, Cheryl Thompson of Hastings, Carol Moeller of Grand Island, Peggy Felton of Washington, D.C., and Brenda LaCost of Eugene.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Ronnie Jares

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Ronnie L. Jares, 48, of Scottsdale, Ariz., formerly of St. Paul, died Monday, July 6, 1998, as the result of an automobile accident.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul. The Rev. Larry Lepper and Will Reger will officiate. Services by Ashlar Masonic Lodge 33 A.F.&A.M.; and Elks Lodge 604 will be in conjunction with the funeral services. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery in St. Paul.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Mr. Jares was born on April 5, 1950, at St. Paul to Louis and Bertha (Berger) Jares. He was educated at St. Paul Public School, where he graduated in 1968. He graduated from Kearney State College in 1972.

He married Bernice Hecker on June 3, 1972, in Kearney. He worked for a loan company in Omaha until his health failed. He had been living in Scottsdale, Ariz., for the past several years.

He was a member of the St. Paul Knights of Columbus, Elks Lodge 604 in Grand Island and Ashlar Masonic Lodge 33 in Grand Island. His hobbies were music and reading.

Survivors include his parents, of St. Paul; and one brother, Jerry of Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Francis 'Fritz' Yilk

DANVILLE, Ky. -- Francis William "Fritz" Yilk, 86, of Danville, Ky., formerly of Grand Island, died June 11, 1998, at the Danville Center for Health and Rehab.

Services were on June 16 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Danville.

Visitation will be from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at Butler Volland Funeral Home in Hastings. Burial will follow in Parkview cemetery in Hastings.

Memorials are suggested to the Heritage Hospice in Danville.

Stith Funeral Home in Danville is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Yilk was born on May 12, 1912, at Cedar Rapids to Florian H. and Katherine (Hoelscher) Yilk. He was a graduate of Hastings Business College and sold irrigation equipment for Heinzman Engineering for 25 years.

He married Margaret Day.

He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Danville.

Survivors include a daughter, Virginia (Yilk) Robertson of Danville; a son, James Francis Yilk of Englewood, Colo.; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife; a daughter, Judith (Yilk) Thompson; and a brother, Charles Yilk.

Donald Miller

Donald Dean Miller, 71, of Grand Island, formerly of Scotia, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Mr. Miller was cremated.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Ord Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Walter Phelan will officiate.

Memorials are suggested to the Scotia Rescue Unit.

Sharon Rogers

Sharon A. Rogers, 54, of 2429 1/2 N. Lafayette died Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998, at her home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rev. Don Larmore will officiate.

There will be no visitation. Mrs. Rogers was cremated.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Kleine Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Rogers was born on July 5, 1944, at St. Augustine, Fla., to George and Lela (Williams) Snyder. Her father was in the Navy, and the family traveled throughout the United States. She graduated from North High School in Omaha in 1962.

She married Melvin Lucht on Jan. 27, 1962, at Omaha. They moved to Shelton.

She was a caregiver to the homeless, elderly, handicapped and children for several years. Her favorite pastimes were cooking, reading, writing, photography, bargain shopping, collecting poems, prayers and quotes.

Survivors include two daughters, Brenda (Mrs. Steve) Evans of Grand Island and Dorine (Mrs. Van) Galusha of Central City; two grandchildren; one sister, Lyn Bloodgood of Grand Island; and two brothers, Kevin Snyder of Omaha and George Snyder II of California.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.

Ruth Sutton

Ruth L. Sutton, 85, of Grand Island died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1998, at Hamilton Manor in Aurora.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Timothy Anderson officiating. Inurnment will be in St. Alban's Episcopal Church columbarium at McCook.

There will be no visitation. Mrs. Sutton will be cremated. Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials are suggested to St. Stephen's Episcopal Church.

Mrs. Sutton was born on Nov. 20, 1913, at Bennett to Edward and Martha (Kettlehut) Francke. She was educated at Eagle.

She married Paul Sutton on June 19, 1934, at Plattsmouth. The couple lived in Eagle. They then moved to Fremont and McCook. They later moved to California, where Mrs. Sutton worked as a clerk for Montgomery Ward for 16 years. She retired in 1978, and they moved to Grand Island.

Mrs. Sutton was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Marla Kutz of Grand Island and Marty Beauchamp of Grand Junction, Colo.; a son, Gordon of Alameda, Calif.; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Marguerette Porter of Valparaiso and Irene Snyder of Lincoln.

Her husband died in 1996. She also was preceded in death by two sisters.

Margaret Choyeski
Raymond Choyeski

ST. EDWARD -- Raymond J. Choyeski, 81, and his wife, Margaret L. Choyeski, 75, both of St. Edward, died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, in an automobile accident near Genoa.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Edward's Catholic Church with the Rev. Edward Gill officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Friday at the church, with wake services at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will resume at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the church and continue until service time.

Levander Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids is in charge of arrangements.
