Agnes Morris

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Agnes Morris, 78, of Columbia, Mo., formerly of Belgrade, died Dec. 10, 1997, at Columbia, Mo.

Mrs. Morris was cremated.

She was born on July 6, 1919, at Belgrade to Roy and Margaret Ellison. She graduated from Belgrade High School in 1936.

She married Lyle Morris on May 6, 1941, at Fullerton.

She is survived by her husband; two sons, Michael of Columbia, Mo., and Joseph of Springfield, Mo.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Vivian Rathman of Grand Island, Margaret Hellbusch of Albion and Katherine Young of Fairbury; and a brother, Harold of Genoa.

She was preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey; a sister, Audrey; and a brother, Michael.

Myrtis Hartman

Myrtis L. Hartman, 77, of Grand Island died Monday, June 22, 1998, at her home.

Services are pending with Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.

Dovie Oleson

Dovie P. Oleson, 92, of Grand Island died Saturday, June 20, 1998, at Community Care of Grand Island.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Peters Funeral Home in St. Paul. The Rev. Richard M. Bacon will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery in St. Paul.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the donor's favorite charity or church.

Mrs. Oleson was born on July 2, 1905, in Farragut, Iowa, to Robert and Pearl (Stoner) Popejoy. As a child, she moved with her family to a farm north of St. Paul, where she attended Howard County rural schools. At the age of 15, she attended the St. Paul Business College to receive her teaching certificate. She began teaching at the age of 16 in several local country schools, including Gage Valley School.

She married Roy L. Oleson on Oct. 9, 1925, in Kearney. The couple lived in St. Paul, where she operated a beauty salon out of her home for several years. The couple later lived in Elm Creek, Hastings, Wood River and Gibbon. They moved to Grand Island in the late 1970s. She gave organ and piano lessons out of her home for many years. Mr. Oleson died on Aug. 3, 1987. Mrs. Oleson moved to Community Care of Grand Island in the spring of 1994.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Grand Island.

She is survived by a daughter, Darlene (Mrs. Robert E.) Martin of Lincoln; a son, Robert W. Oleson of Castroville, Calif.; three grandchildren and one great-grandson.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, L.R. Popejoy.

Hazel Rawlings

Hazel Rawlings, 80, of Grand Island died Monday, June 22, 1998, at Park Place Health Care and Rehab Center.

Services are pending at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.

Mabel Brown

DONIPHAN - Mabel Marie Brown, 91, of Doniphan died Saturday, June 20, 1998, at Haven Home in Kenesaw.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Rosedale United Methodist Church at rural Doniphan. The Rev. Bill Hunter will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery at rural Doniphan.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings. Further visitation will be one hour before services Wednesday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the church or cemetery.

Mrs. Brown was born on Aug. 11, 1906, near Rosedale to John and Myrtle Bell (McDowell) Gerdes. She graduated from Rosedale High School on May 15, 1924.

She married Ralph Brown on Jan. 30, 1930. They farmed in Hall County throughout their marriage. Mr. Brown died on Aug. 19, 1982.

Mrs. Brown was a member of the Rosedale United Methodist Church. She was Sunday school superintendent for 40 years and a member of the Rosedale United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Garden Club and the South Platte Township voting board.

Survivors include one daughter, Charlotte (Mrs. William) Munstermann of Glenvil; one son, Robert Brown of Doniphan; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one brother, Marvin Gerdes of Grand Island.

Bedsides her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph Gerdes and George Gerdes; and one grandson.

Edward Synowski

FARWELL - Edward E. Synowski, 87, of Farwell died Sunday, June 21, 1998, at the Howard County Community Hospital in St. Paul.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Farwell with the Revs. Larry Coulter and David Rykwalder officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., with an 8 p.m. rosary, Wednesday at Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul. Visitation also will be from 8:30 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the church or its cemetery fund.

Mr. Synowski was born on June 23, 1910, in Columbus to Stephan and Thekla (Wilczynski) Synowski. As a child, he moved with his family to a farm in the Paplin area. He attended Paplin school until the eighth grade. He farmed with his parents near Paplin and later farmed on his own.

He married Constance "Connie" Badura on Oct. 17, 1933, in Paplin. The couple first lived on a farm near Paplin and moved to a farm near Farwell in 1944. They later moved to a farm near Dannebrog, where they worked for the Havlik family in cattle feeding and farming. They moved into Farwell after retiring. Mrs. Synowski died on Aug. 26, 1992.

Mr. Synowski was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Farwell.

Survivors include four daughters, Pat (Mrs. Ted) Lukasiewicz of Farwell, Rita (Mrs. Wayne) Porter of Lakewood, Colo., Alice (Mrs. John) Safarik of Arvada, Colo., and Doris (Mrs. Ron) Hofeldt of Hastings; one son, Richard of Petersburg, Va.; 24 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Clara Hosher of Columbus.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one son, Owen; one grandson; and one brother, Harry.

Richard Wrehe

LOUP CITY - Richard Andrew Wrehe, 85, of Loup City died Sunday, June 21, 1998, at the Howard County Community Hospital in St. Paul.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Higgins Funeral Home in Loup City. The Rev. Allen Boeve will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery in Loup City.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.

Mr. Wrehe was born on Aug. 26, 1912, on the family farm near Ashton. He attended rural District 26 School and graduated from Ashton High School in 1931. He worked on the family farm and in the Nebraska sandhills, western Nebraska and Iowa.

He married Bertha "Betty" Haesler on March 6, 1946, at St. Paul's Evangelical and Reformed Church in Loup City. They farmed in the Austin area before moving to the family farm near Ashton in 1960. They retired to Loup City in 1998.

Survivors include his wife.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Dora Schumann; and twin brothers, Alfred and Leo.

Marvin Wheeler

ONAWA, Iowa - Marvin Lloyd Wheeler, 54, of Onawa, Iowa, died Saturday, June 20, 1998, at the Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa.

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Levander Funeral Home in Albion. The Rev. Jim Wickenkamp will officiate. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Evergreen Memorial Park at Omaha.

A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa, Iowa.

Mr. Wheeler was born on Nov. 15, 1943, at Norfolk to Lloyd and Pearl (Harbottle) Wheeler.

As a young boy, he lived in Albion, where he began school. He moved with his family to Missouri, where he continued school. He later lived in Omaha and worked as a school custodian.

He lived in Council Bluffs for nine years before moving to the Onawa, Iowa, area.

He was a member of the Benson Church of Christ while living in Omaha.

Survivors include three daughters, Beverly of Everett, Wash., and Tiffaney and Dena, both of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and one sister, Betty (Mrs. Paul) Wickenkamp of Arvada, Colo.
