Dorothy Touchstone

HASTINGS -- Dorothy Viola Touchstone, 72, of Hastings died Thursday, Oct. 8, 1998, at BryanLGH Medical Center East in Lincoln.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Hastings. The Revs. Cheryl Ann Elfond and Carl W. Utley will officiate.

There will be no visitation. Butler-Volland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials are suggested to the church, the National Kidney Foundation or a scholarship the family plans to establish in her name at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.

Mrs. Touchstone was born on July 21, 1926, in Little Rock, Ark., to Ralph and Ruth (Taylor) Anderson. She graduated from Tucson High School in Tucson, Ariz. She attended the University of Southern California and graduated from Texas Women's University. She received her master's degree from Louisiana State University at Baton Rouge.

She taught at the University of Kentucky-Hazard Community College in Hazard, Ky., and worked as a social worker in Louisiana. She was a social worker and directed the social work program at the University of Nebraska at Kearney from 1982 to 1991.

She was a member of the Academy of Certified Social Workers and was inducted into the Nebraska Social Work Hall of Fame. She served as president of the Hastings Church Women United in the late 1970s. She also served several years on the Hastings Foster Care Review Board. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Hastings.

Survivors include her husband, Frank; one daughter, Ellen Touchstone of Los Angeles; one brother, Harvey B. Anderson of Chandler, Ariz.; and a half brother, Ralph "Tim" Anderson of Conroe, Texas.

Olive Hollister

LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo. -- Olive May Hollister, 95, of Lee's Summit, Mo., died Monday, Oct. 5, 1998, at a Lee's Summit hospital.

Memorial services were on Thursday at Langsford Funeral Home in Lee's Summit. Graveside services were on Friday at Main cemetery in Belgrade.

Survivors include one son, Paul of Florida; two grandchildren; two nephews, Ronald Christensen of Fullerton and Dennis Wagner of Central City; and three nieces, Carlene Fyfe of Monroe, Patricia Wagner-Stromberg of Albion and Donna Bailey of McCool Junction.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Morgan Edward "Ed"; two brothers, Carl and Elvin; and two sisters, Viola Christensen and Ruth.

Kate Schwank

UKIAH, Calif. -- Kate Schwank, 95, of Ukiah, Calif., formerly of Central Nebraska, died Sept. 22, 1998, at the Valley View Nursing Home at Ukiah.

Services were on Sept. 26 at St. Mary's Church in Ukiah.

She married Harry Schwank at St. Libory in 1922. The couple moved from Nebraska to Ukiah in 1973. Mr. Schwank died in October 1976.

Mrs. Schwank was active until the age of 89 with Senior Center activities and was a foster grandmother for eight years at Frank Zeeh School. She had lived at Valley View Nursing Home for the past year.

Survivors include one son, Jerry Schwank of Ukiah; one daughter, Sister Thelma Schwank of Campbellsport, Wis.; three grandchildren; and one brother, Clem Buhrman of Spalding.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Donald.

Delores Bartlett

Delores K. Bartlett, 62, of Grand Island died Tuesday, Aug. 25, 1998, at St. Francis Memorial Health Center.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Lonnie Logan will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to the family.

Mrs. Bartlett was born on June 15, 1936, in South Sioux City to Irving and Margaret (Long) Kober. She grew up and attended school there, graduating from South Sioux City High School.

She married James W. Bartlett on Aug. 25, 1956, in South Sioux City. The couple lived there, where she worked at Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. as an operator. They later moved to Fremont, then to Grand Island in 1970. She retired from Northwestern Bell in 1987 and then worked as a switchboard operator at St. Francis Medical Center until her death.

She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church and Telephone Pioneers.

Survivors include one son, Kevin of Grand Island; one daughter, Beth A. Adelson of Hastings; four grandchildren; her parents, of South Sioux City; and one brother, Dennis Kober of South Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by a twin sister, Donna Merchant.

Donnice Jensen

HASTINGS -- Donnice D. Jensen, 69, of Hastings died Tuesday, Aug. 25, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Butler-Volland Chapel in Hastings. The Rev. Bill Liddell will officiate. Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and one hour before service time Friday at the chapel.

Memorials are suggested to the Sunnyside Home.

Mrs. Jensen was born on July 31, 1929, in Marquette to Harold "Shorty" and Ida V. (Danhaur) Larsen. She attended Marquette High School. She moved to Hastings in 1969. She worked at the Navy Ammunition Depot and Dutton Lainson before working in the dining room at the Sunnyside Home.

Survivors include a daughter, Diana (Mrs. Paul) Juggert of Hastings; a son, Doug Jensen of Marquette; four grandchildren; one step grandchild; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Phyllis Hartzell of Hastings and Vivian Alberts of Stockham; and two brothers, Vaughn Larsen of Grand Island and Leland Larsen of Columbus.

Augusta Spilinek

BURWELL -- Augusta Marie Spilinek, 89, of Burwell died Monday, Aug. 24, 1998, at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Burwell. The Rev. Greg Volzke will officiate. Burial will be in the Cotesfield cemetery near Cotesfield.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Eberle-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell.

Memorials are suggested to the church, Burwell Ambulance Supply Fund or Cedars Children's Home in Lincoln.

Mrs. Spilinek was born on Sept. 26, 1908, near Elba to Henry and Hattie (Naprstek) Ingerle. She grew up near Elba and attended school there.

She married Joseph F. Spilinek on May 11, 1927, in Elba. They farmed near Farwell early in their marriage. They moved to a home near Burwell in 1949 and lived near Ord and Burwell. Mr. Spilinek died in 1977. Mrs. Spilinek continued living near Burwell until she entered the Valley County Nursing Home on June 26.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.

She enjoyed flowers, cooking and paper hanging.

Survivors include two sons, James and Daniel, both of Ord; seven daughters, Shirley (Mrs. Dean) Bonsall of Scotia, Elizabeth "Betty" (Mrs. Don) Johnson of Norfolk, Alice (Mrs. Robert) Cunningham of Cozad, Patricia "Patty" (Mrs. Robert) Davis of Lincoln, Laura (Mrs. Chuck) Knight of Pahrump, Nev., and Frances (Mrs. Roy) Mares and Margaret "Peggy" Mohr, both of Burwell; 30 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; one brother, Albert Ingerle of Elba; and one sister, Clara Schimek of North Platte.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Franklin; and two brothers, Louis and Herbert Ingerle.

Dolores Sweley

WOOD RIVER -- Dolores P. Sweley, 54, of Wood River died Monday, Aug. 24, 1998, at her home.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Peace Lutheran Church in Grand Island. The Rev. William Voelker will officiate. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Litchfield District Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Kleine Funeral Home in Grand Island. Memorials are suggested to the family.

Mrs. Sweley was born on July 10, 1944, in Lincoln to Joseph G. and Hanora C. (Malone) Eskey. She grew up and attended school in Lincoln, graduating from Pius X Central High School in 1962. She attended the College of St. Mary in Omaha and graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1968 with a bachelor of science degree. She taught in the Lincoln public schools for several years.

She married George Sweley on Nov. 29, 1969, in Lincoln. The couple lived in Bellevue before moving to Grand Island. She taught at Dodge, West Lawn and District 16 elementary schools in Grand Island and substituted for 17 years in Hall County. The couple moved to Wood River in 1975. She worked at the Country General distribution center at the time of her death.

She was a member of Country General's safety board and hazardous communications materials subcommittee.

She enjoyed crafts and researching family history.

She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church and its fellowship board and Alpha Delta Kappa-NU chapter. She served as president-elect from 1978 to 1980, chapter president from 1980 to 1982 and was a state scholarship recipient in 1988.

Survivors include her husband; one son, Gregg of Scottsbluff; one daughter, Lisa (Mrs. Dan) Rodgers of Loveland, Colo.; three brothers, Leo J. Eskey of Fremont, Frank J. Eskey of Lincoln and Michael T. Eskey of Springfield, Va.; one sister, Kathy (Mrs. Gary) Steinke of Lincoln; her stepmother, Ruth Eskey; and several stepsisters.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her stepfather, Howard McLaughlin.
