U.S., Obituary Collection, 1930-Current

June Green

PALMER -- June E. Green, 89, of Palmer died Tuesday, April 21, 1998, at the Howard County Hospital in St. Paul.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Palmer. The Rev. Delbert King will officiate. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. in the Chambers Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Palmer Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to the church.

Mrs. Green was born on June 27, 1908, at Chambers to William and Elzetta (Fluckey) Blake. She grew up and attended school at Holt County and graduated from Burwell in 1926. She attended normal school and received her elementary education degree from Wayne State College in 1970.

She married Ray Green on March 19, 1939, at Burwell. They lived in Oregon from 1939 to 1945. She taught for 28 years in several rural schools and taught first grade at Palmer for three years.

She enjoyed reading and crocheting. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Sunshine Circle, American Legion Auxiliary and It Suits Us Club.

Survivors include three sons, William and James, both of Palmer, and Floyd of Grand Island; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Pauline (Mrs. Marion) Bonsel of Dunlap, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her husband and two brothers, Closs and Raymond.

Alice Morrison

St. Paul -- Alice E. Morrison, 81, of St. Paul died Wednesday, April 22, 1998, at Heritage Living Center in St. Paul.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Christ Lutheran Church in St. Paul. The Rev. Bob Paulson will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery at St. Paul.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Peters Funeral Home in St. Paul.

Memorials are suggested to the Christ Lutheran Church Addition Fund.

Mrs. Morrison was born on May 12, 1916, at Loup City to Charles and Emma (Kaiser) Huebner. She was educated in the Wiggle Creek area and graduated from Valleyside in 1932. She worked at St. Francis Hospital.

She married H. Glenn Morrison on Feb. 28, 1940, at Grand Island. The couple lived in Bremerton, Wash., for a few years before moving to St. Paul. She was a homemaker and a longtime Avon saleswoman. Mr. Morrison died on May 8, 1978.

Mrs. Morrison continued to live in her home until March 1998, when poor health forced her to move to Heritage Living Center.

She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Ladies Aid, Lutheran Women's Missionary League and Just Us Girls Extension Club.

Survivors include three sons, Charles Morrison of Aurora, Colo., Paul Morrison of Lincoln and Murel Morrison of St. Paul; two grandchildren; and three brothers, Floyd Huebner of Moscow, Idaho, Ervin Huebner of Salina, Kan., and Carl Huebner of Sun Lakes, Ariz.

James Spiehs

DONIPHAN -- James C. Spiehs, 46, of Doniphan died Wednesday, April 22, 1998, at his home.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Doniphan. The Rev. Rod Armon will officiate. Burial will be in Cedarview cemetery at Doniphan.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings. Further visitation will be one hour before services Saturday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.

Mr. Spiehs was born on Dec. 7, 1951, in Grand Island to Donald R. and Beulah G. (Slack) Spiehs. He graduated from Doniphan High School in 1970.

He married Rhonda K. Reiber on March 9, 1979, at the First United Methodist Church in Hastings. He was a farmer.

He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Doniphan. He enjoyed the outdoors and loved to hunt and fish.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Justin Spiehs and Clayton Spiehs, both at home; his parents, of Doniphan; one brother, Larry Spiehs of Enumclaw, Wash.; and one sister, Peggy Jo (Mrs. Pat) Callahan of Kansas City, Kan.

Melvin C. Dobesh

Melvin C. Dobesh, 78, formerly of Ansley, died Saturday, Aug. 1, 1998, at the Veteran's Administration Medical Center in Grand Island.

Dobesh was cremated and there will be no services. Kleine Funeral Home may be contacted for more information.

Carroll Babcock

KENESAW -- Carroll J. Babcock, 73, of Kenesaw died Saturday, Aug. 1, 1998, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.

Jackson-Wilson Funeral Home in Kenesaw is in charge of arrangements.

William Bishop

GIBBON -- William E. Bishop, 81, of Gibbon died Saturday, Aug. 1, 1998, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Gibbon Baptist Church. Burial will be the Riverside cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Gibbon American Legion, Bradly Buck Post No. 310.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Godberson Mortuary in Gibbon.

Memorials are suggested to the Gibbon Baptist Church or church of the donor's choice.

Mr. Bishop was born April 28, 1917, in Peru to J.D. and Lillian (Adams) Bishop. At age three, he and his family moved to Gibbon where he grew up and graduated from Gibbon High School in 1934.

After high school, he worked for Bishop Oil Co., the Grand Island Ordnance plant and was a member of the Gibbon Fire Department. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946 and returned to Gibbon where he was a postal clerk until becoming postmaster in 1964.

He married Melvina "Melly" Jolley on Nov. 23, 1948, in Clayton, N.M. They made their home in Gibbon. He retired from the Post Office in 1972 and worked at Gibbon High School and the West Co. of Kearney until retiring in 1979. After retirement, he and his wife spent winters in Pharr, Texas.

He was a member of the Gibbon Baptist Church, Gibbon American Legion and the Gibbon Fire Department.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Joe of Worland, Wyo.; a daughter, Sandra Kay Olson of Grand Island; a sister, Betty Krubeck of Kearney; and five grandchildren.

'Betty' Enderle

AURORA -- "Betty" Enderle, 77, of Aurora died Saturday, Aug. 1, 1998, in a Lincoln hospital.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Aurora First Evangelical Lutheran Church. The Rev. Gary Cepek will officiate. Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery.

There will be no visitation. Higby Mortuary in Aurora is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Enderle was born July 3, 1921, in St. Michael to Edward and Mary (Vierk) Riedy. She grew up and attended country school near St. Michael and graduated from Cairo High School in 1938. Following graduation she lived in Seattle for a time and then returned to work at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant in Grand Island during World War II.

She married Rodney Enderle on Aug. 30, 1945, in Loredo, Texas, where he was stationed in the Army/Air Force.

Following his discharge, they returned to Aurora, where they farmed. After his death in 1974, she moved into Aurora where she has since lived. She was co-owner of an antique shop for a short time.

She was a member of the Aurora First Evangelical Lutheran Church and belonged to the ladies aid. She enjoyed bowling and her grandchildren were very special to her.

Survivors include two daughters, Patricia (Mrs. John) Miller and Beverly Enderle, both of Aurora; a sister, Erma Thagard of Grand Island; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Michael; and a daughter, Rebecca.

Ezra Kremer

AURORA -- Ezra Kremer, 89, of Aurora died Sunday, Aug. 2, 1998, at Memorial Hospital in Aurora.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Aurora Pleasant View Bible Church. The Rev. Roy Fruits will officiate. Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Higby Mortuary in Aurora.

Mr. Kremer was born Feb. 28, 1909, in Milford to Benjamin and Mattie (Rediger) Kremer. He attended Aurora High School and a summer agriculture session at the University of Nebraska before beginning his lifelong love of farming.

He married Leta Zehr on May 27, 1934. They lived on the family farm southwest of Aurora where they raised their three children. Later they built a home west of Aurora on Highway 34 where they continued to live after retirement. In November 1996, he moved to the Hamilton Manor in Aurora.

He was a member of the Aurora Pleasant View Bible Church. He had taught Sunday School and served as deacon for many years at the Pleasant View Mennonite Church southwest of Aurora. He also enjoyed raising cattle and had a love for horses. He had served many years on the Aurora Co-op elevator board.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Dick and Ron, both of Aurora; a daughter, Marilyn (Mrs. Jim) Douglass of Concordia, Kan.; a sister, Verna (Mrs. Helmer) Wadell of Aurora; eight grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Maurice.

Rose Leavitt

WOOD RIVER -- Rose I. Leavitt, 78, of the Good Samaritan Center in Wood River died Sunday, Aug. 2, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.

Services are pending.
