Jim McBride

AURORA -- Jim McBride, 69, of Aurora died Saturday, March 28, 1998, at his home.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Aurora. The Rev. John Keefe will officiate. Burial will be in the Aurora Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Higby Mortuary in Aurora, and from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the church. A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. at the church.

Mr. McBride was born Sept. 17, 1928, at Blue Hill to Edgar and Eva Theresa (Coniff) McBride. He grew up and went to school at Blue Hill, and attended Regis College in Denver and St. Benedict's College in Atchison, Kan.

After college, he served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953.

He married Dorothy Lee Smalley on June 29, 1953, at Loup City. They lived in Blue Hill, where he worked for the Commercial Bank of Blue Hill, served on the school board, the local housing authority board, and the board of the local telephone company.

In 1970, he and his family moved to Aurora, where he was president of the Aurora First National Bank until he retired from banking in 1986. He then opened Jim McBride Realty, where he worked until his death.

He was a nationally known banker, having served as president of the Nebraska Bankers Association and on several national committees with the American Bankers Association. Locally, he was a member of the Farr and Mather Foundation board of directors and was an active member of the Rotary Club and Aurora American Legion.

Mr. McBride was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Aurora, was a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus, and was a strong supporter of Catholic education. He sent all six of his children to Benedictine College, served on the Benedictine College board of directors and received the Cross of the Order of St. Benedict's.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Patrick of Lincoln, Stephen of Olathe, Kan., Terrence of Omaha and John of Minden; two daughters, Susan (Mrs. Dennis) Paine of Kansas City, Mo., and Jane (Mrs. Mark) Sullivan of Overland Park, Kan.; one brother, E.J. McBride of Lincoln; three sisters, Margaret (Mrs. Dan) Kucera of Havre, Mont., Ann (Mrs. Frank) Harrison of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and Frances Hydeman of Gardner, Kan.; and 18 grandchildren.

Peggy Nabity

CHAPMAN -- Peggy Nabity, 64, of Chapman died Saturday, March 28, 1998, at her home.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Central City with the Rev. Nelson Newman officiating. Burial will be in the Central City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday with a wake service at 7:30 p.m. at the church. Solt Funeral Home in Central City is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Nabity was born March 8, 1934, in Nebraska City to Fridolin and Adeline (Bischof) Sand. She grew up in Nebraska City and then moved to Nehawka, where she graduated from high school. She then attended Mt. St. Scholoftica College in Kansas, taught for a year in Atchison, Kan., then went to the University of Nebraska and graduated in 1956.

She married Ernest Nabity on August 20, 1955, in Nebraska City. The couple then moved to a farm near Chapman and Mrs. Nabity taught elementary school in several country schools for three years. She was currently teaching fourth grade at Palmer. She had been a teacher there for nearly 20 years.

Mr. Nabity died on April 20, 1996.

Mrs. Nabity was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Prairie Extension Club, Delta Kappa Gamma and was a 4-H leader for many years. She loved to play the piano and had played the organ for the church.

She is survived by five sons, Jim Nabity of Rigdecrest, Calif., Kevin Nabity of Des Moines, Iowa, Robert Nabity of Albuquerque, N.M., Brian Nabity of Lincoln and Paul Nabity of Lincoln; four daughters, Patrice (Mrs. Jim) Lippert of Omaha, Lori (Mrs. Anthony) Calub of Omaha, Lisa Nabity of Chapman and Mary Beth Nabity of Lincoln; two brothers, Paul Sand of Hampstead, N.C., and Robert Sand of Olympia, Wash.; four sisters, Catherine (Mrs. Art) Zech of Douglas, Patricia (Mrs. Blaine) Sloane of Fort Garland, Colo., Dorothy Sand of Indialantic, Fla., and Jean Anderson of Marshalltown, Iowa; and 14 grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Beth Yvonne.

Lela Robb

DONIPHAN -- Lela A. Robb, 85, of Doniphan died Saturday, March 28, 1998, at the St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Doniphan United Methodist Church. The Rev. Bill Hunter will officiate. Burial will be in the Cedarview Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the church or family's choice.

Mrs. Robb was born on Sept. 1, 1912, to Ivor and Edythe (Brown) Jones at Pauline. She moved with her family to the Doniphan area as a child. She attended rural schools west of Doniphan and graduated from Hastings High School. She received her teacher's certificate from Kearney Teacher's College. She was a teacher at rural schools near Doniphan and Hastings.

On Feb. 18, 1933, she married Melvin W. Robb at Smith Center, Kan. The couple lived in the Doniphan area. She taught school for a short time after their marriage.

She was a member of the church and Ladies Aide. She taught Sunday School and also was a Sunday School superintendent. She was active on the Cedarview cemetery Board, where she was president. She also was a longtime member of the Doniphan Book Club and Doniphan Garden Club.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Roberta "Bobbe" Ormond of Tualatin, Ore., and Judy Happold of Doniphan; five grandchildren; a brother, Gayle Jones of Greensboro, Ga.; and two sisters, Ivora Shafer of Moses Lake, Wash., and Jeannine Hogge of Nampa, Idaho.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Lyle, Loel, Bill and Kenneth Jones; and one infant grandson.

Stuart Schepers

SHELTON -- Stuart A. Schepers, 83, of Shelton died Saturday, March 28, 1998, at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Wood River.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Shelton with the Rev. Timothy Parker officiating. Burial will be at Fairmont Public cemetery at Fairmont.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the church. Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials are suggested to the church, Wood River Good Samaritan Center, Shelton Emergency Unit or Gideon Society.

Mr. Schepers was born May 10, 1914, at Fairmont, to George and Mabel (Shore) Schepers. He received his education in Fairmont and graduated in 1932.

On Feb. 18, 1945, he married Adelia Meyer at Hebron. They lived in Geneva, where he owned and operated Quality Market, a grocery and meat market, from 1934 until 1947. They then moved to a farm at Shelton. In 1976, he retired from farming and moved to Shelton.

He enjoyed fishing, bird watching and cribbage. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Shelton.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, James of Lincoln and Kenneth of Centerville, Ohio; three daughters, Kendra (Mrs. Ron) Vance of Lincoln, Stephanie Suzanne (Mrs. Robert) Nielsen of West Lafayette, Ind., and Mary Jean (Mrs. Lloyd) Tracy of Bradshaw; and 16 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Francis.

'Buddy' Johnson

SUMNER -- Paul W. "Buddy" Johnson, 65, of Sumner, died Saturday, March, 28, 1998, at his home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. at the Sumner Evangelical Free Church with the Rev. John McNeill officiating. Burial will be in the Sumner cemetery with military rites at the grave by John Lloyd American Legion Post #41 of Sumner.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary and until service time Tuesday morning at the church.

Memorials are suggested to STEER, Inc. or the Kearney Evangelical Free or Sumner Evangelical Free Church libraries.

Mr. Johnson was born March 29, 1932, in Chicago, Ill, to Paul and Beulah (Cramer) Johnson and had been a resident of the Sumner area most of his life.

He graduated from Sumner High School in 1949 and later entered the U.S. Army and served in Korea.

He married Zola Mae Davison on April 19, 1955, in Holcomb. He worked at Union Packing Co. in Omaha for seven years and then Cornland Dressed Beef in Lexington for 10 years.

After his father's death in 1979, they moved to the farm southeast of Sumner and Mr. Johnson farmed until retiring in 1989. The couple then moved into Sumner. He was then employed as a feed truck driver for Beattie's in Sumner.

Mr. Johnson was a member of Kearney Evangelical Free Church and STEER, Inc.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Steve of Grand Island; one grandson; two granddaughters; one brother, Jim Johnson of Holdrege; two sisters, Marlys Pearson of Holdrege and Gena Schnacker of Sumner.

Genevieve Conley

Genevieve E. Conley, 80, of Grand Island died Friday, March 27, 1998, at Lakeview Nursing and Rehab Center.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Christ Lutheran Church. The Rev. Michael Helwig will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 4 to 6 p.m., Sunday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.

Mrs. Conley was born on June 27, 1917, in Jackson Township in rural Hall County to Louis and Mary (Bosler) Curry. She moved to Grand Island at an early age and was educated at Jefferson Elementary, Walnut Junior High and Grand Island Senior High.

She married Leslie R. Conley on Oct. 29, 1937, at Lincoln. The couple lived in Grand Island, where she worked at the Palmer Hotel, the Yancey Hotel and as a seamstress.

She later worked as a cook at Parkside Nursing Care Center and Baumann Nursing Home. Mr. Conley died in February 1977. Mrs. Conley retired in 1978.

Mrs. Conley was a member of Christ Lutheran Church all of her life. She taught Sunday school for more than 20 years. She enjoyed reading, sewing and dancing.

Survivors include one son, Gene Conley of Grand Island; one daughter, Monica Isenberg of Grand Island; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; one stepbrother, Marvin Muchow of Grand Island; one sister, Viola Griffins of Grand Island; and two stepsisters, Mildred Sheffield of Aurora and Berniece Nabor of Waco.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one grandson and two sisters.
