Simeon “Sam” R. Korth
d. February 25, 2012
RANDOLPH - Memorial services for Simeon R. “Sam” Korth, 80, Mesa, Ariz., will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Frances Catholic Church here with burial in the parish cemetery and military rites by American Legion Post 113 and VFW Post 5545. The Rev. Michael Swanton will officiate.
Visitation will be 6-7:30 p.m. Friday at the church with a 7:30 p.m. rosary. Arrangements are by Stonacek Memorial Chapel of Osmond.
He died Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012, at his home.
He was born Dec. 11, 1931, on the family farm northwest of Randolph to Henry and Catherine (Fisher) Korth. He attended and graduated from St. Frances High School as salutatorian.
He served in the Air Force from Jan. 9, 1951, to Jan. 8, 1955, during the Korean War and was honorably discharged. After serving his country he attended college at Boulder, Colo. After college he was an air traffic controller in several states. He then became a pilot for a number of airlines, retiring after a long career with Northwest Airlines.
Sam was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Mesa, and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. After he retired he was very active as a member of the Confederate Air Force, rebuilding and flying restored World War II bombers throughout the United States. His favorite plane was the B-17. Sam was well known as a skilled and respected pilot.
Sam is survived by his sister-in-law, Gen Korth of Randolph; nieces and nephews, Anne and husband Roger Morris of Fargo, N.D., Bob Korth of Grand Forks, N.D, Jack and wife Lori Korth of Randolph, Mary and husband Dan Pick of Hartington, Sharon and husband Tim Leader of Norfolk, Debbie and husband Gerard Arens of Bow Valley, Julie and husband Brian Arens of Pierce, Michele and husband Al Arens of Fordyce, Roger Korth of Delhi, Calif., Terry Korth of San Jose, Calif., Todd Korth of California, Krissy and husband Ray Leglu of San Jose; 30 great-nieces and nephews; 22 great-great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Don and Ted.
Organist will be Anne Morris and soloist Katlyn Arens on “Amazing Grace,” cantor Debbie Arens and “Gather Your People,” “Hosea,” “On Eagles Wings,” “Here I am Lord.”
Casket bearers will be Gina Hamilton, Emily Korth, Luke Korth and honorary casket bearers all his nieces and nephews.

Jimmie Hoegemeyer, 68
Died: Sunday, October 12, 2008, in Fremont
Jimmie Walter Hoegemeyer, age 68, of Fremont, passed away quietly at his home in Fremont in the early morning hours of Sunday, October 12, 2008 after a 4 ˝ month battle with cancer. It was a disease he fought with the same courageous spirit and steady resolve with which he faced everything in life. He was born to Walter and Elaine (Conrad) Hoegemeyer on the family farm in rural Scribner, on May 30, 1940. He attended District 92 as well as St. Peter's Parochial School and was a 1958 graduate of Scribner High School. He went on to the University of Nebraska Lincoln and graduated from the College of Agriculture in 1963. Upon graduation from UNL he was commissioned as an officer in the Air Force. He rose to the rank of Captain and his service to the country included time in Viet Nam in 1964. On May 15 of that same year he married Sara Springer, the love of his life. He went to work for Valmont Industries in 1969 and worked there for 33 years before retiring. He loved golf and organized and played in several leagues. He was an avid outdoorsman and was especially fond of hunting white tail deer. He enjoyed coin collecting and was a member of both the Fremont and Wahoo Coin Clubs. He and his wife also square danced as members of the Star Lighter square dance club. He was active in his church, Trinity Lutheran, having served on the school board as well as serving as an Elder. After a car accident nearly took his life in 1969 he decided to donate blood and out of gratitude for the sacrifice that once saved him, he donated 16 gallons of whole blood and 160 units of platelets over the course of his life. Jim was an honest, kind, gentle, and sincere man who will be greatly missed by the friends and family he leaves behind.
Including his wife of 44 years Sara, daughter Ami Sims of Idaho Springs, CO; son Tim and wife Jennifer Hoegemeyer and grandsons Levi and Canaan, all of Holly Springs, NC; Brother Jerry and wife Sally Hoegemeyer, of Sedro Wooley, WA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister Marge and brother-in-law Eugene Peterson.
Visitation will be Tuesday October 14, 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. with family receiving friends from 6:30 – 8:00 at Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 15, at Trinity Lutheran Church. Internment will follow at Memorial Cemetery with Military Honors by the Fremont Honor Guard. Memorials may be donated to Trinity Lutheran School or the Kidney Cancer Association.

Marvin L. Pebley, 78
ALLIANCE - Marvin Lee Pebley, 78, passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2015, at Box Butte General Hospital.
He was born Sept. 14, 1936, at Chappell, to Harry and Agnes (Johnsen) Pebley.
On Aug. 26, 1956, he married the love of his life Phyllis Christensen.
Marvin was a master electrician, gas fitter and plumber, owning his own businesses in Oshkosh and Alliance. Upon his retirement, he had worked with Kriz-Davis for 22 years selling electrical supplies to many area businesses and electricians making many friends along his travels.
One of the causes closest to his heart was the volunteer fire service. He began his service with the Chappell Volunteer Fire Department in 1957. Shortly after moving to Oshkosh in 1965 he became fire chief and served in that capacity until 1973, when he moved his family to Alliance. While involved with the Alliance Volunteer Fire Department, he was elected as president of the Nebraska State Volunteer Firefighter’s Association in 1982. He served a total of 10 years on the state board.
Marvin was a Master Mason, member of the United Methodist Church and United Methodist Men, and the Eagles.
Marvin especially enjoyed his grandchildren and their activities, spending time at his Lake McConaughey home and at his shop with his Happy Hour buddies.
He is survived by his wife; daughters Dawn (Jimmy) Butcher of Alliance, Linda (Kevin) Monahan of Murray, and Melody Pebley and Rick Finley of Grand Island; grandchildren Chelsea (Jeremy) Kuhn, Kameron and Kaelyn Monahan, and Kearra Finley; and soon to be great-grandbaby Kuhn.
He is also survived by his brother Kenneth Pebley of Chappell.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers George Morr, Richard Morr and James Pebley.
A celebration of life will be at 11 a.m. Monday, July 6, at the Alliance United Methodist Church, with Pastor Tom Lucas officiating.
Inurnment will be in the church columbarium, which he helped build.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Alliance United Methodist Church or the Alliance Volunteer Fire Department.
Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Jim Ries, 56
Died: Monday, March 12, 2012, in Scribner
Jim was born April 28, 1955 in West Point, NE. to Glenn and Jeannine 'Haun' Ries. He was raised in Scribner and graduated from Scribner High School in 1973. He attended South Dakota State on a football scholarship for a year then attended Midland Lutheran College for a year. Jim then went to work at IBP in West Point for about 20 years. He worked for Meyerink Construction in Scribner before working at Fremont Contract Carriers for the last 15 years. He was married to Cindi Oeltjen and they later divorced.
Survivors:
Son - Anthony and wife Angela Ries of Havre De Grace, Maryland
Daughter - Angela and husband Aaron Beard of Omaha
2 grandchildren - Sophia and Gabriel Ries
Mother - Jeannine Ries of Scribner
Brother - John and wife Nadine Ries of Omaha
Sisters - Mary and husband Mike Jensen of Cincinnati, Ohio
Susan and husband Richard Dames of Lincoln
Jim was preceded in death by his father in October of 2011.
The memorial service will be 11:00am Thursday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Scribner. The Rev. Damien Wee and Deacon Junior Pribnow will officiate. Family will receive friends from 6pm to 8pm this Wednesday evening at the home of Jeannine Ries (317 7th St. Scribner). A memorial fund will be established at a later date.

Vivian Buss
d. March 29, 2011
PIERCE - Services for Vivian V. Buss, 91, of Pierce will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church here with burial in Prospect View Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Stonacek Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Gordon Bruce will officiate.
She died Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at Homestead Assisted Living in Norfolk.
She was born April 16, 1919, nine miles west of Madison to Rudolph and Mildred (Kuchar) Ambroz Denney. She was baptized and confirmed at Battle Creek Heights Church, Battle Creek, July 14, 1936. She attended School District 28, Madison County, through the eighth grade and graduated in 1937 from Madison High School with her class of 43 students.
After graduation from high school, Vivian worked at the Lutheran Hospital in Norfolk. She met her husband at King’s Ballroom in 1939. She was married to Raymond F. Buss on Jan. 5, 1941, at Zion Lutheran Church, Pierce.
She was a homemaker, farm wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great- grandmother, seamstress, gardener, caretaker, pie maker, crocheting and sports fan of the Atlanta Braves. Vivian enjoyed her garden, canning and flowers.
In her early years, they belonged to a card club, and as a couple they enjoyed fishing, camping and dancing. The Busses lived six miles west of Pierce, where they farmsteaded until 1969, with Vivian moving to Pierce in 1983 and then making her residence at the Homestead Living Center in Norfolk as of Jan. 8, 2010.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and spent 26 years assembling church bulletins each week.
Survivors include her son, Robert and wife Janice Buss of Glen Burnie, Md., daughter Becky and husband Douglas Stevens of Norfolk and son Gene and wife Jolene Buss of Pierce; daughter-in-law Janice Koehler and husband Donavon of Pierce; 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Ambroz of Norfolk.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Raymond F. Buss, Jan. 5, 1983; son Donald Buss, Oct. 13, 1974; grandson Richard “Rick” Buss, Dec. 9, 2010; three sisters, Violet Rhoads, Opal Klein, Ilene Dopson; and two brothers, Lawrence and Orrie Ambroz; stepfather Harry “Tony” Denney.
Organist will be Linda Peekenschneider with congregational hymns, “How Great Thou Art,” “Rock of Ages,” “The Old Rugged Cross.”
Casket bearers are Tom Buss, Tim Buss, Scott Stevens, Jared Baumann, Frank Arens, Tyler Wingate, Robbie Buss, Michael Sullivan Jr.
Honorary casket bearers are Cindy Arens, Candi Wingate, Angie Stevens, Jennifer Baumann, Kari Buss, Beth Buss, Wendi Buss, Sue Buss, Sherry Buss, Amy Buss, Stacy Sullivan.

Richard Peterson
d. March 17, 2011
NORFOLK - Memorial services for Richard L. Peterson, 80, of Norfolk will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John’s Lutheran Church here with inurnment at Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, at a later date. The Rev. Edgar Schambach will officiate.
Stonacek Funeral Chapel is in charge.
He died Thursday, March 17, 2011, at Faith Regional Health Services.
Richard L. (Lang) Peterson was born April 17, 1930, at Brockton, Mass., the son of John Sidney Peterson and Mildred Louise Lang.
He graduated from Brockton, Mass., High School. Richard joined the Air Force after graduating from high school and served for 20 years from Nov. 6, 1950, to Dec. 1, 1970.
During his time in the military, he married Carol J. (Larson) Peterson of Hudson, S.D., on Nov. 28, 1953. Richard’s military career took them to various places, such as Germany, and allowed them to travel extensively through Europe.
After his retirement from the service in 1970, they moved to an acreage home in Canton, S.D., and embarked on a new career in television repair. Richard owned and operated Peterson’s T.V. shop for 19 years. When Richard retired, he and Carol moved to Sweetwater Golf & Tennis Resort in Haines City, Fla., where they enjoyed fishing, boating and square dancing. After 17 years in Florida, they moved to Norfolk to be closer to family.
Survivors include his wife, Carol; son Scott and wife Susan Peterson of Mt. Airy, Md.; daughter Cathy and husband Clayton Fischer of Pierce; son Steven Peterson of Brandon, S.D.; son Brian and wife Terisa Peterson of Arnold, Mo.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
