Lawrence R. Johnson, 90
Died: Friday, February 20, 2009, in Fremont
Lawrence was born to John and Anna 'Pearson' Johnson on April 5, 1918 at Wakefield, Nebraska where he grew up and received his education.
He farmed for a couple years, then went into the fertilizer business. He owned and managed Ideal Fertilizer, later selling his company to Terra Chemical Co. They transferred him to Madison, South Dakota where he was an assistant manager and he remained there until retiring. In 1986 Lawrence and his wife moved to Fremont. While living here, Lawrence worked for area farmers part time, and also did painting for Don Peterson Real Estate.
He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, and he and his wife also enjoyed playing cards.
On October 6, 1940, Lawrence and Eleanora Walter were married in Wakefield.
Survivors – wife – Eleanora
a niece, Lila Stites and her husband Kay of Peachtree, Georgia (Eleanora and Lawrence helped raise Lila and her sister and brother following their father's death). Lila's sister and brother have since died.
Several other nieces and nephews survive.
Lawrence was also preceded in death by 3 sisters and 7 brothers.
The funeral service will be 10 AM Tuesday (Febr. 24th, 2009) in Good Shepherd Lutheran Church with the Rev. Timothy Anderson officiating. A Prayer Service will be Tuesday afternoon at 2 PM in Wakefield in St. John's Lutheran Church, followed by the committal in the Wakefield Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and to the Lutheran Hour.
Visitation at the Ludvigsen Mortuary, Fremont, will be on Monday (Febr. 23rd) from 2 to 8 PM, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 PM.

Wanda Dye, 78
ALLIANCE - Wanda L. Dye, 78, of rural Alliance and recently Hermosa, S.D., died Friday, May 13, 2016, at the Hospice of the Hills in Rapid City, surrounded by her family.
She was born Oct. 2, 1937, to Fred and B. Irene (Bangert) Seidler in Alliance. She graduated from high school at University of Nebraska School of Ag in Curtis in 1955. She married Erwin Dye on March 18, 1956, in Alliance. They farmed and raised cattle with Erwin’s family until 1982 when they began farming and raising commercial Angus cattle with their sons. Wanda helped in the fields and corrals, cooked many meals, gardened and raised beautiful flowers. She worked for a few years at LB Murphy’s in Alliance, doing tailoring and alterations. Wanda sewed clothes for family and grandchildren and in recent years became an accomplished quilter. She created beautiful quilts and home accessories for herself, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She took many classes and workshops at Pat’s Creative with her friend Junie Hooper and loved learning new techniques and patterns.
Wanda was an active 4-H mom and grandmother, helping with many projects from livestock to sewing to baking. She guided many young hands in sewing projects, including family and beyond. For many years she was active at Immanuel Lutheran, teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and serving on altar guild.
She is survived by her sons, Chester Dye, Bart and Kathy (Moore) Dye of Alliance, Jack and Penny (Stalnaker) Dye of Hermosa. Her grandchildren Karina and Marty Jones of Berwyn, Trista and Cory Rose of Hobart, Okla., Brianna Dye of Gillette, Wyo., Alyssa Dye of Lincoln and Chase Dye of Alliance. Her great granddaughters Mahaya, Maysa and Makamry Jones and Lakyn and Taylyn Rose. Wanda is survived by her brothers Gerald (Irene) Seidler, Larry (Connie) Seidler, Dale Seidler and sister-in-law Jean Seidler. She is also survived by other family including Jim and Judy Dye (Alliance), Denise Koozer (Alliance) and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Erwin, brother, Wilbur, and sister-in-law Betty Leistritz.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, May 20, at the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church. The Reverend Martin T. Schnare and Reverend Richard C. Mueller will officiate. Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Bates-Gould Funeral Home 10 a.m..-7 p.m. Thursday with family being present from 5-7 p.m.
Memorials may be given to Hospice of the Hills at 224 Elk St, Rapid City, SD 57701, Box Butte County 4-H or to the charity of the donor’s choice.

R.L. (Richard) Welty, 83
Died: Thursday, March 05, 2009, in Fremont
He was born June 18, 1925 in Fremont to Rye and Olga 'Janowski' Welty. He grew up in Fremont, and joined the United States Navy at an early age. He entered active duty in August of 1942, serving during WW II until June of 1946. Then later, he reenlisted in March of 1951, serving during the Korean Conflict until December of 1954. He was the recipient of the American Area Ribbon, the Victory Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with 6 Stars, and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 2 Stars.
He had worked for Watson's Store Fixtures, and the Fremont Dept. of Utilities from which he retired. He was a Boy Scout Leader for Troop 103. He enjoyed crafts, woodworking, and he loved riding motorcycles.
On June 18, 1948, he was married to Ida Marie Petersen. She preceded him in death on May 26, 2001. Also preceding him was his mother and an infant grandson.
Survivors: 2 sons – Tom Welty of Fremont
Dick and wife Anita Welty, of Fremont
3 daughters – Rose and husband Tom Monke of Arlington
Peggy Welty of Ft. Myers, Fl.
Jean Mikoloyck of Fremont

6 great grandchildren
The funeral service will be 10:30 AM Monday (March 9, 2009) in the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel, Fremont, with the Rev. Dan Heuer officiating. The committal will follow in Memorial Cemetery with Military Honors by the Fremont Honor Guard of American Legion Post 20 and VFW Post 854.
Memorials are suggested to the American Lung Association.
Visitation will be at the Ludvigsen Mortuary on Sunday (March 8th) from 2 to 8 PM, with the family receiving friends from 4 to 6 PM.

Sr. Carmelita Telles, 91
ALLIANCE - Sister Carmelita Telles, 91, passed away Saturday, May 14, 2016, at Marian Residence.
Sister Carmelita was born Aug. 17, 1924, at Tularosa, N.M., to Edward (Eduardo) and Tomasa (Johnson) Telles and was named Erlinda Telles.
In the fall of 1943 she went to Marycrest Convent in Denver, Colo., and entered the Sisters of St. Francis of Penance and Christian Charity on Nov. 16, 1943. She professed her vows on Aug. 16, 1945, and took the name of Sister Mary Carmelita.
In 1945 Sister Carmelita’s ministry took her to St. Francis Mission in St. Francis, S.D. on the Rosebud Reservation where she was a teacher and worked in housekeeping until 1965. She then worked as a missionary at the Mexico Mission, Cardonal, Hidalgo, Mexico until 1974. While in Mexico she received her diploma of Catechist from the Institute Calequetico, Mexico City in 1969. She then returned to St. Francis until moving to Alliance in 1981 where she worked in Pastoral Ministry for Holy Rosary Parish. Sister Carmelita returned to Denver from 1988 to 1993 at Marycrest Convent until moving back to Alliance in 1993 where she resumed her duties in pastoral ministry until retiring in 2008.
She is survived by her sister, Cecilia (Bob) Currieo of Tucson, Ariz., her brother, Marshal Telles of San Diego, Calif., her half-brother, Ronald (Patsy) Telles of Alamogordo, N.M., and nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, half-brother, Benny Telles, step-brother, James Cannon and step-sister, Burline Cannon.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday, May 21, at Marian Chapel with burial in Calvary Cemetery. Wake services will be 7 p.m. Friday, May 20, at Marian Chapel.
Memorials may be given to Marian Residence.

Freda E. Johnson, 97
Died: Saturday, March 14, 2009, in Fremont
Freda Emma Koehler Johnson and her twin brother Fred were born July 10, 1911 in Oakland, Nebraska to Herman and Christiana 'Kindschuh' Koehler. She attended Pleasant Way country school district 62, and graduated from high school in Oakland in 1930. She was confirmed in 1926 in St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Lyons.
On October 3, 1935, she was married in Oakland to Elmer L. Johnson. To this union was born a daughter Dolores and a son Donald.
They lived on the family farm from 1935 until January of 1950 when they moved to Fremont. In Fremont, Freda worked as a secretary and manager of bookkeeping for Adams Motor Co. She also worked for Pfister's Hybrid Seed Co. and Midland Wood Co.
Freda was a member of Sinai Lutheran Church in Fremont from 1950 until the present time. She was president and secretary and treasurer of the WELCA, and she was active in the church's Charity Circle.
Survivors: daughter – Dolores and husband Paul Watson of Fremont
daughter-in-law – Jonette Johnson of Ankeny, Iowa

Freda was preceded in death by her husband Elmer on December 2, 1997, and by her son Donald in August of 2007, 2 sisters, 2 brothers and her twin brother.
The funeral service will be 2 PM Tuesday (March 17th) in Sinai Lutheran Church with the Rev. James Melang officiating. The committal will follow in Memorial Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Sinai Lutheran Church.
Visitation at the Ludvigsen Mortuary will be today (Monday – March 16th) from 3 to 8 PM, with the family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8 PM. Visitation will also be at the church on Tuesday for an hour before the service.
