U.S., Obituary Collection, 1930-Current

Mary Lou Marshall
Mary Lou Marshall, 69, of Superior, Neb., beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend was born in Abdel, Neb., on Dec. 16, 1937 to Walter and Agnes Peterson.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Charles E. Marshall of Superior, Neb.; two children, Pamela M. Marshall of San Antonio, Texas and Barry Marshall and wife Kim of Imperial, Neb.; grandson Alex B. Marshall of Grand Island, Neb.; sister Leila Mohler and husband Harlan of San Antonio, Texas; nieces, nephews and other relatives and a host of friends.
Mary Lou grew up in the Abdal/Superior communities graduating from Superior High School with the class of 1956. On September 15, 1956 Mary Lou was united in marriage to Charles E. Marshall at Bethel Lutheran Church at Abdal, Neb. The union was blessed with the birth of two children, one daughter and one son. Mary Lou had been a long time employee of Home Federal Savings and Loan of Superior.
Mary Lou enjoyed reading, music and golfing with family and friends. She was involved in many charitable and social activities with and for the youth of the community. Also, many fundraising events to support the Susan Koman Cancer Association, the local hospital and many others.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
Memorial services were held Saturday, Oct. 6 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Superior with Pastor Mark Diehl officiating. Inurnment was held at the Evergreen Cemetery, Superior.
Memorials may be given to the family.

Dorothy Statz
Dorothy I. Statz was born May 2, 1919 to Ralph and Josie Knight in Nickerson, Neb.
As a child, Dorothy lived in South Dakota before moving to Chase County with her mother and brothers, Donald and Delbert.
She attended grade school at Mt. Tabor near Lamar and Chase County High School.
Dorothy married Frederick W. Statz on Aug. 19, 1936 in Benkelman, Neb. and to this union 10 children were born: Harold, Ruth, Frederick "Bill," Robert, Ralph, Leon, Pauline, Louis "Bud," Kathy and Carla.
She passed away at Villa Campana Care Center, Tucson, Ariz. on Sept. 28, 2007.
Fred and Dorothy lived on the family homestead west of Champion until Fred's death in March 1978. At that time she moved to Imperial.
Dorothy accepted the Lord as her Savior and attended church regularly at Crete Church and Lamar Christian Church.
Dorothy lived for her children and grandchildren.
She was involved in many organizations, Girl Scout leader, 4-H leader, Sunday School teacher, Bible School teacher, Y-Teen sponsor and active at Wagon Wheel Ball Park. She supported kids in every day activities and organizations.
Dorothy was a cook for several years at the CCHS cafeteria before going to Champion Grade School as head cook.
After she retired, she volunteered at the Imperial Senior Center for many years.
Dorothy loved to sew for her kids and grandkids. She loved to crochet afghans and her children, grandchildren and many friends were recipients of her talents. She enjoyed going to family activities such as birthdays, graduations, weddings, christenings and births of new babies. She loved celebrating her birthdays, especially sharing the last 18 with great granddaughter, Nicole Sorge, including her 88th this past spring in Tucson, Ariz.
Due to failing health, Dorothy moved to the Imperial Manor in June 2006. On Sept. 28, 2006, she moved to Tucson, Ariz. and lived with her daughters, Kathy, Carla and Pauline.
Even though she was confined to her wheelchair this past year, she enjoyed going to baseball games, playing dominos, shopping, eating out and getting to know her Arizona and California grandchildren, especially Lily and Lacey Shaw and they enjoyed time with her. She and Lily had their picture taken with Santa last Christmas. She said it was the first time she had her picture with Santa.
Dorothy entered the hospital Aug. 22 and then moved to Villa Campana Care Center on Aug. 31, 2007 where she lived until her death.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Harold (Ann) of Nickerson, Neb., Robert (Barbara) of Holyoke, Colo., Ralph (Linda) of Holyoke, Colo., Leon (Jean) of Lebanon, Ky., Pauline Patterson of Tucson, Ariz., Louis "Bud" (Sharon), of Champion, Neb., Kathy Hern of Tucson, Ariz. and Carla Croner of Tucson, Ariz.; 18 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren and two great, great granddaughters; brother, Donald Knight of Rockville, MD and many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred; daughter, Ruth in 1962; son, Frederick "Bill" in 1971; her parents, Ralph Knight and Josie Kunkel; step father, Morris Kunkel; brother, Delbert Knight in 2001; step brother, Max Kunkel; and step sister Marguerite Kunkel.
A graveside memorial service was held on Oct. 9, 2007 at Mt. Hope cemetery with Robert Harmon officiating.
Kim Silvester provided the music.
Honorary pallbearers were grandchildren: Lisa Gaver, Chris Statz, Suzette La Belle, Scott Statz, Ralph Statz, Jr., Robyn Jamison, Ralyn Ralston, Theresa Hampton, Frederick Statz, Christina Pope, Tiffany Long, Kevin Statz, Diana Kurth, Coletta Clouse, Sandy O'Neil, Steven Statz, Mark Coyne and Michael Shaw; great grandchildren, Drew Statz, Amber Gaver, Ashley Wilson, Alex Jamison, Josh Ralston, Julia Ralston, Jessica Hampton, Justin Hampton, Andrew Statz, Jason Stark, Nicole Laitouri, Robert Laituri, Auguste McWaters, Alicia Lang, Alex Lang, Wyatt Statz, Jonathan Nitsch, Asia Kurth, Aaron Kurth, Nicole Sorge, Stephanie Sorge, Bo O'Neil, Ella O'Neil, Tyler O'Neil, Anthony Statz, Grant Statz, Vanessa Coyne, Lily Shaw and Lacey Shaw; great, great granddaughters, Kiara Laituri and Jordan Clouse.
Liewer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Florence Yost
Florence Mae Yost of Imperial died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2007 at her home, the Imperial Manor Nursing Home. She was 86.
Funeral services will be Friday, Oct. 12, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. M.S.T. at the Berean Fundamental Church in Imperial with Pastor John Engbrecht and Pastor Giles Armstrong officiating.
Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Imperial.
Memorials may be given in her name to the Berean Fundamental Church in Imperial.
Visitation will be today, Thursday, 2-6 p.m. at Liewer Funeral Home.

Harry Kinner, Jr.
Harry Kinner, Jr. of Imperial died Monday, Oct. 8, 2007 at his rural home. He was 75.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Kinner, of Imperial; son, Harry Kinner, III "Stoney" and his wife, Stephanie, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; daughter, MaryAnn Kinner of Ocala, Fla.; sister, Karen and husband, LaVerne Robertson, of North Platte; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday, Oct. 13, 2007, 10 a.m. M.S.T. at Crossroads Wesleyan Church in Imperial with Rev. Todd Burpo officiating.
Burial will be in Mt. Hope cemetery with military honors.
Memorials may be given in his name.
Visitation will be Friday from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Liewer Funeral Home.

E. LeRoy Cranwell
E. LeRoy Cranwell, age 85, of Greeley, Colo. died Oct. 5, 2007 in Greeley.
He was born to Willis Clifton Cranwell and Mary Abigail (Marshall) Cranwell on March 13, 1922 in Lamar, Neb.
Mr. Cranwell grew up on a family farm near Lamar, Neb.
He served in the Navy from Sept. 1, 1942 to Dec. 25, 1945. He served in WWII in both the European Theatre and the Pacific Theatre. He was honorably discharged and received the American Area Medal, The Good Conduct Medal and the WWII Victory Medal.
After returning from his service he married Jeri Wilcox in Holyoke, Colo. on March 16, 1947.
He and his family moved to Commerce City, Colo. where he attended barber college. They then moved to Greeley, Colo. in the mid 1950's.
Mr. Cranwell was a barber for 30 years. He worked at Classic Barber Shop and owned Cranwell's Barber Shop for many years.
He was a member of Hillside Baptist Church and served as a Deacon for many years. He also served on numerous church committees. He was a past member of Destination Unknown and the Greeley Elks Club.
Family was Mr. Cranwell's greatest interest. He also enjoyed fishing, camping, hiking, bowling and traveling with his wife. He and his wife participated in several bridge clubs and supper clubs. They also volunteered at the Union Colony Civic Center. Mr. Cranwell also shopped for home bound people.
Survivors include his wife, Jeri Cranwell of Greeley, Colo.; sons, Kevin Cranwell of Greeley, Colo., and Kyle Cranwell and wife, Mary Ann, of Greeley, Colo., daughter, Kimberly and husband, Rob Norwood, of Greeley, Colo.; four grandchildren, Erich and Mallory Cranwell of Greeley, Colo. and Christian Dick and Tyler Norwood of Greeley, Colo., as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Myrl Cranwell and sister Darlene Paap.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2007 at 10 a.m. at Hillside Baptist Church with Stoddard Funeral Home of Greeley, Colo. in charge of arrangements.
Interment was at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Dorothy Statz
Dorothy Statz, long time resident of the Champion area, passed away Friday, Sept. 28, 2007, in Tucson, Ariz.
She was 88 years of age.
Survivors include sons, Harold Statz and wife, Ann, of Nickerson, Neb., Robert Statz and wife, Barbara, of Holyoke, Colo., Leon Statz and wife, Jean, of Lebanon, Ky., Bud Statz and wife, Sharon, of Champion, Neb.; daughters, Pauline Patterson of Tucson, Ariz., Kathy Hern of Tucson, Ariz., Carla Cromer of Tucson, Ariz.; 18 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and brother, Donald Knight of Rockville, Md.
Graveside inurnment services will be held Tuesday, morning, Oct. 9, 10 a.m., at Mount Hope cemetery with Robert Harmon officiating.
No visitation, cremation was chosen by the family.
A memorial has been established to the Imperial Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 1446, Imperial, Neb. 69033.

LaVon Scholl
LaVon Scholl, 77, of Holyoke, Colo. died Sept. 29, 2007 in Holyoke. She was born in Benkelman, Neb. Feb. 1, 1930 to Louis and Flossie Waterman.
The two major loves of her life were her family and the family business that she operated with James, her husband of 60 years. She enjoyed spending time with and serving her family and friends.
She was a sports fan and attended many sporting events with family members and her husband James, ranging from her grandchildren's games, Holyoke school games, CU Buffs games, Denver Nuggets and Denver Bronco games. She loved animals and was a caretaker of many of the family pets throughout the years.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Holyoke and served the church body in many capacities.
She is survived by her husband, James Scholl of Holyoke; daughter, Julie and husband, Ivan Wiebke, of Holyoke; son, Arlan, and wife, Laurie Scholl of Holyoke, Colo.; grandchildren, Michelle and husband, Matt Finley, of Port Charlotte, Fla., Cassidi Sporhase of Kansas City, Mo., Garrett and wife, Julie Sporhase of Holy­oke, Colo., Chris and wife, Heather Wiebke of Lincoln, Neb. and Leslie Scholl of Louisville; great grandchildren Spencer Heldenbrand, McKenna Heldenbrand and Bodie Finley of Port Charlotte, Fla., Cole Wiebke of Lincoln, Neb. and Caden Sporhase of Holyoke, Colo.; sisters, Doris Howell of Sterling, Colo., Lois Callahan of Denver, Colo. and Darlene and husband, J.T. McCormick of Phoenix, Ariz.; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
LaVon will be remembered for her loving, caring spirit and the demonstrations of her faith in God.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007 at First Baptist Church in Holyoke, Colo. There was a private family interment at Holyoke Memorial Park.

Donna Pflum
Donna R. Pflum of Imperial, Neb. died early Thursday at Chase County Hospital.
She was born March 7, 1938 to Elmer Fedrick Johann and Magdelina Augusta (Hinz) Roedel.
She grew up in an area south of McCook, Neb. known as Ash Creek.
She attended St. John Lutheran Parochial School and graduated from McCook High School.
She was baptized into the family of God on March 27, 1938 and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. John's Lutheran Church of rural McCook in 1951.
On March 17, 1957 she married Lloyd A. Pflum, Jr. at St. John's Lutheran Church. Donna and Lloyd were blessed with four children: Kaye Lynn, Kim Nanette, Charles Robert and Kelly Ann.
Donna spent many hours helping on the family farm. She also enjoyed sewing, baking, crafts, working outside in her yard, watching the Broncos' football games and nurturing her grandchildren.
She was a lifetime member of Zion Lutheran Church and had faith that kept her strong through many trials during her lifetime.
Donna was reunited with her husband and son on Sept. 27, 2007 at the age of 69 years old.
Donna leaves to mourn her loss her daughters, Kaye Lynn Eskew and husband, Greg, of Imperial, Kim West and husband, Garth, of Stratton, Neb., Kelly Pflum of Lakewood, Colo.; six grandchildren, Debra Eskew, Aaron Eskew and wife, Ashley, Montana and Nevada West, Bob Pflum and wife, Julie, and Steven Pflum; six great-grandchildren; sister, Rhonda Nokes and husband, Al, of Minden, Neb.; brother, Willard Roedel and wife, Carol, of McCook; sister-in-law, Jackie Schmich and husband, Jerry, of Loveland, Colo.; brother-in-law, Leonard Dutton, of Lakewood, Colo. and numerous nieces and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers were all the family and friends of Donna.
Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 1, 2007, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Imperial with Pastor David Kahle officiating.
Liewer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
