James Hladik, 71
NORFOLK - James “Jim” Hladik, 71, passed away Sunday, March 8, 2015, at the Golden Living Center, following a brief battle with cancer with his wife Diana at his bedside.
Jim was born Feb. 10, 1944, at Plainview, to Robert and Dorothy (Christiansen) Hladik. Jim grew up on a farm near
Creighton where the family farmed. He attended rural school and graduated from high school in Creighton.
Jim worked at Carquest and Henkel Oil for several years. He also coached softball for his local church.
Jim married the love of his life, Diana Galyen, on May 24, 2003.
Jim and Diana loved to go camping, attend rodeos, car races, and dancing where he spent time with friends.
Jim was also an avid Cornhusker fan.
James is survived by his wife; children Robin Scott of Omaha, Michael Hladik of Colorado, Tammy (fiancé Mike Janovec) Walnofer of Norfolk; step-daughers Leanna (Ben) Johnson and Tawnya (Damon) Bass of Alliance, and Makayla (Leo) Solis of Lincoln; grandchildren Steven (McKenzie) of Omaha, Megan Scott, Corbin (Kayla) Walnofer, Kylee (Bart) Stockad, Dennon (Rachel) Hladik, Bailey and Peittyn Johnson, Brayden and Keagan Bass, Jade Hille, and Alexa and Xzaiden Solis; and great-grandchildren Carter and Kyler Walnofer, Melony Hladik, and CJ McKenzie.
He also is survived by his mother Dorothy Hladik of Creighton, and aunt Jan Halvin of Norfolk.
He was preceded in death by his father and an infant brother.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. CDT Saturday, March 14, at Stonacek Funeral Chapel.
Visitation will be at 1 p.m. before the service.
Inurnment will be at a later date.

Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk is in charge of the arrangements.

Johnnie Messerly
d. November 30, 2010
NORFOLK - Services for Johnnie N. Messerly, 79, of Norfolk will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Stonacek Funeral Chapel with burial in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery and military rites by American Legion Post 16, VFW Post 1644 and the United States Army Honors Guard. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday. The Rev. Norman Nelson will officiate.
He died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2010, at the Norfolk Veterans Home.
He was born June 10, 1931, at Norfolk to Herbert and Freida (Kirchoff) Messerly and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church in Norfolk. He graduated from Norfolk High School in 1949.
He graduated from Norfolk High School and enlisted in the Army. He served from April 1, 1952, to March 5, 1954, during the Korean War and achieved the rank of corporal.
He married Donna F. Waite at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Pilger. After they were married, they moved to Norfolk. For 43 years Johnnie worked in beef processing in Norfolk as a shag driver until retiring in 1995. For seven years Johnnie and Donna worked together at Budget Bottle Shop in Norfolk.
Johnnie loved fishing and camping. The family took many camping and fishing trips at Lake Travis, S.D. He had been a resident at Norfolk Veterans Home since May of 2008.
He was a member of American Legion and VFW in Norfolk.
Survivors include wife Donna Messerly of Norfolk; three sons, Johnnie Lee Messerly and girlfriend Casey Kellogg of Norfolk, Bob Messerly and girlfriend Dawn Jessen of Norfolk, Billy and Angie Messerly of Alabama; five grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Millie Hamilton of O’Neill, Alice Messerly of Norfolk.
He was preceded in death by parents, daughter Cindy Jo Haase, son-in-law Randy Haase, sister Delores Stonacek, brother Lloyd Messerly.
Music will be congregational hymns “How Great Thou Art” and “Abide With Me.”
Casket bearers will be David Robinson, John Schoenaur, Tom Unger, Gordy Kyriss, Tim Brunswick, Ray Lawry.

Donald Dean Anderson
d. November 23, 2010
HOSKINS - Services for Donald “Dean” Anderson, 81, of Hoskins were Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoskins. The Rev. Rodney Rixe officiated with burial scheduled for a later date.
Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk was in charge of arrangements.
He died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010, at his home.
Don was born June 28, 1929, at Hoskins, the son of Gus and Nora (Weiher) Anderson. He was baptized and confirmed at the Trinity Lutheran Church and raised in Hoskins. Following graduation from Hoskins High School in 1947, Don served in the U.S. Navy from July 1, 1948, to Jan. 12, 1950.
He and Lois Vonderohe were married on Feb. 15, 1953, at Norfolk. Shortly after their marriage, Don and Lois moved to California where they lived for seven years before returning to Nebraska. Donald started a tavern business, Swede’s Place, in Hoskins.
Later, he worked at Hoskins Manufacturing, retiring in 1994. Donald loved hunting deer and pheasant, fishing and camping all around the Midwest states.
Donald gave 25 years of service to the Hoskins Volunteer Fire Department. He celebrated this Thanksgiving with family at his home. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, Lois, of Hoskins; three children, son Mike and wife Becki of Commerce City, Colo., and daughters Donna and husband K Damato of Erie, Colo., and Renee and husband Marc Risor of Norfolk; four grandchildren: Kyle Damato, Michaela Damato, Adam Fuerhoff and Aaron Fuerhoff; brother Orville and wife Arleen of Hoskins; and sister-in-law Adeline Anderson of Winside.
He was proceeded in death by his parents; brother Leland; and sisters Janet Kreber and Elaine Pettitt.
Organist was Rogene Marotz, with congregational hymns “I’m But a Stranger Here” and “Amazing Grace.” Soloist was Orville Broeckemeier, who sang “The Lord’s Prayer.” A recording, “Uncloudy Day” by Toby Keith, was played.
Honorary casket bearers were Roger Anderson, Doug Anderson, Tom Anderson, Rick Anderson, Larry Anderson and Randy Anderson.

Donald W. Raile
d. November 22, 2010
MADISON - Donald W. Raile, 78, died at home Monday, Nov. 22, 2010, in Weslaco, Texas.
Memorial service will be at Trinity United Methodist Church in Madison at 10:30 a.m. Saturday with inurnment in Crown Hill Cemetery and military rites by American Legion Post 35. Arrangements are by Stonacek Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Cindy Stewart will officiate.
He was born Aug. 10, 1932, at Norfolk to David and Dee (Bryant) Raile. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity United Methodist Church in Madison. He attended Pierce Public Schools.
Don served in the U.S. Navy with the Seabees as a contractor/electrician. He was stationed at Kwajalein, Philippine Island and Quadulene. While serving in the Navy, he earned his electrical degree and went on to earn his master’s contractor license as an electrician.
He married Virginia Wilbanks Dec. 3, 1954, at Dibble, Okla. They lived in Corpus Christi, Texas, until Donald was honorably discharged. After the service, Don lived in Oklahoma and worked at Western Electric until he retired in 1974. At that time, Don and his family moved east of Madison, where they farmed and owned Raile’s Electric. Don and Virginia sold the farm and traveled for several years in their motor coach. They made their final home in Weslaco.
Don enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming and Nebraska football. Don spent his time with grandkids, with friends at the American Legion in Madison and watching his grandson Taylor play baseball. Don will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist, Madison, and member of American Legion, Madison.
Survivors include wife Virginia Raile; two children, a son, Michael Raile, currently serving in Iraq, and daughter Donna and husband Craig Downs of Madison; four grandchildren, Brittany Raile, Laura Pfeifer, Lance Pfeifer, Taylor Habrock; two stepgrandchildren, Vanessa and Brooke Downs; two great-grandchildren, Romeo Wright, Carmen Payne; three siblings, “Al” David and wife Mert Raile of Grand Island, Jeanne and husband Sid Nelson of Pierce and Vicky Thomas of Oklahoma City.
He was preceded in death by parents; stepmother and son Robert Raile; two infant brothers, Jimmy and Kenneth; two sisters, infant Beverly Ann and Kathryn French; a niece, Jacqueline Houska.
Congregational hymns will be “How Great Thou Art” and “Amazing Grace.”

Bernard ‘Butch’ Vyhlidal
d. November 21, 2010
NORFOLK - Services for Bernard “Butch” Vyhlidal, 78, of Norfolk will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Stonacek Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Adrian Hanft officiating and military rites by American Legion Post 16, VFW Post 1644 and United States Army Honors Guard at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday.
He died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2010, at a Lincoln hospital.
Bernard “Butch” Vyhlidal was born June 6, 1932, in Pierce County to Joel E. and Cora (Heller) Vyhlidal. He was baptized June 8, 1932, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church by Father Mester, Pierce, and confirmed at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. He attended Pierce country school to the eighth grade.
He was married to Delma Weich Jan. 29, 1952, at Zion East Lutheran Church, rural Hoskins. They divorced in 1979. He married Donna Pichler Dec. 6, 2004, at Jackson Hole, Wyo.
Bernard worked at Bossard Cattle Company northwest of Meadow Grove, Elkhorn Construction and Midwest Bridge. Bernard worked 40 years in the gravel business between Northeast Sand and Gravel and Backus Sand and Gravel. He owned and operated the Red Bird gravel pit.
Bernard helped with the annual Fourth of July celebrations and fireworks in Meadow Grove. He enjoyed being outdoors, gardening and hunting. Bernard was a generous and kind person who always set a great example.
He served in the Army during the Korean War from April 20, 1953, to April 7, 1955, stationed in Louisiana and Fort Riley.
He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, Norfolk.
Survivors include wife Donna Vyhlidal of Norfolk; one daughter, Kris Lind of Oakdale; two stepdaughters, Shelly Pichler of McCook, Carol Pichler of Big Springs; two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren; two brothers, Joe Vyhlidal of Pierce; Art and wife Judy Vyhlidal of Randolph; two sisters, Sophie Eldhart of Pierce, Pat and husband Louie Herbolsheimer of Hartington; sister-in-law Karen and husband Gary Westphal of Valparaiso; two brothers-in-law, Raymond and wife Kara Kostman of Hershey, Paul and wife Cheryl Kostman of Bayard; numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Dale in infancy; one sister, Jean Jenkins; two brothers-in-law, Elton Jenkins and Holgar Eldhart; one sister-in-law, Donna Mae Vyhlidal; great-niece Erin Christine Sufficool.
Congregational hymns will be “How Great Thou Art,” “What a Friend We Have in Jesus,” “Just as I Am.”
Casket bearers will be Tom Richmond, John Richmond, Ben Vyhlidal, Brian Vyhlidal, Bill Vyhlidal, Joel Brandt.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family.
