Mattie and Dave Monson began their courtship in 1934 after meeting at a church service at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Meadow Grove. He would come to her house, and they would sit and visit. That went on for quite some time, and then they started going to church together. Following the cafe, Dave worked for Madison County on the bridge crew, and Mattie cooked at the Tilden hospital for 16 years.
Mattie will be known for her wit, hard work, being a loving wife and very gracious mother. Dave and Mattie were very godly parents and always put God first in their lives and made sure that they along with their children were in church every time the church doors were open.
