Lucille Irene Bruns
Lucille Irene Bruns, 73, of Doniphan, died Saturday, November 20, 2004 at Good Samaritan Center in Ravenna, Nebraska.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 pm Wednesday, November 24, 2004 at Calvary Lutheran Church with the Reverend Sheri Loedel officiating. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-9 pm Tuesday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. Memorial are suggested to the family.
Mrs. Bruns was born on September 15, 1931 at Ashton, Nebraska the daughter of Henry A., and Alma (Krumwiede) Wichern. She was raised and educated in Ashton. The family moved to Farwell in 1947 where she resided until 1958.
She was united in marriage to Darwin Bruns, on April 27, 1958 at Loup City, Nebraska. The couple lived in Wood River from 1958-1959 at which time they moved to Grand Island. She was employed as a babysitter for several families. Mr. Bruns preceded her in death on March 17, 2003.
She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include a son, Daniel L. Bruns of Doniphan, 3 grandchildren; Melanie, Kyle and Emilee of Grand Island, a brother Jerry and his wife Concha Wichern of Lompoch, CA, a sister Judy and her husband Robert Brown of Hastings, two brother-in-laws; John and his wife Nancy Bruns of Grand Island and Ray and his wife Linda Bickel of California, sister-in-law Betty Wichern of Grand Island and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and 2 great-great-nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband Darwin, her parents, 5 brothers and 2 sisters

Donald Lee Detweiler
Donald Lee Detweiler, 84, of Grand Island, Nebraska died Tuesday, April 29, 2003 at the Nebraska Veterans Home of Grand Island, NE.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am Friday, May 2, 2003 at the Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home Chapel in Grand Island with The Reverend Joel Schroeder officiating. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-9 pm Thursday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Family.
Donald L. Detweiler was born on September 18, 1918 to William and Anna (Dohrn) Detweiler in Grand Island. He grew up in Grand Island and received his education in the Grand Island Public Schools.
He entered the United States Army on May 25, 1944 serving during World War II. He was honorably discharged on January 6, 1946.
He was united in marriage to Helen Schneider on November 08, 1938 in Nelson, Nebraska. After which the couple lived in Grand Island where he was the manager of Sothman Lumberyard. He later was a purchasing manager at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant. He also was a purchasing agent for Merrick Machine Shop.
He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and the Eagles. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed gardening, grocery shopping, hunting, fishing and wood working.
Survivors include,
Son and Daughter in Law: David and Barb Detweiler, Grand Island
Son: Robert Detweiler, Grand Island, NE
Daughter and Son in Law: Sandy and Gay Nations, Casper, WY
Daughter and Son in Law: Joey and Larry Peters, Grand Island
6 Grandchildren: David Peters and Lisa Bennett, Brenda and Shelly Detweiler, Brian and Jana Detweiler.
2 Great Grandchildren: Jacob and Justin Peters
Preceded in death by: His parents, wife Helen, 3 brothers: Merwyn, J.W., and Jim Detweiler, and one sister Ardith Gardner

Paul Jon Currier
Paul Jon Currier PhD, 50 of Doniphan, Nebraska passed away Saturday, April 19, 2003 at Bryan LGH East, Lincoln, Nebraska following complications from heart surgery.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Saint Mark's Episcopal Pro-Cathedral in Hastings, Nebraska with Father Richard J. Martindale officiating. Visitation will be from 3-9 p.m. Tuesday with the family receiving friends from 6-7 p.m., at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Dr. Currier was born on October 11, 1952 in Detroit, Michigan the son of James G. and Betty J. (Brink) Currier.
Survivors of his immediate family include:
Brother and Sister In Law: Mark and Patti Currier of Hastings, Michigan
Sister: Sue McGuire of Corunna, Michigan
Other survivors include:
Nephew: Bryan McGuire of Corunna, Michigan
Nephew: Brad Currier of Hastings, Michigan
Niece: Kelly McGuire of Corunna, Michigan
Aunt and Uncle: Mr. & Mrs. Gene Brink of Kalamazoo, Michigan
and many cousins.
Paul grew up and received his education at Grand Rapids, Michigan. He received his B.S. degree in Biology in 1974 from Alma College, Alma, Michigan, his M.S. degree in 1979 and his Ph.D. degree in 1982 in Botany (Plant Ecology) from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa.
In 1981 Paul joined the Platte River Whooping Crane Habitat Maintenance Trust, a land-based conservation organization headquartered near Wood River, and in 1995 became Executive Director. During the past six years he has been an active participant in the Platte River Cooperative Agreement, a basin-wide forum including Colorado, Nebraska, Wyoming, the Department of Interior, water users and environmental interest. In July of 2002, Paul was appointed to the Governor's Water Policy Task force that is examining Nebraska water law related to the connection between groundwater and surface water. During the past six summers Paul has taught a four week wetland ecology class for Iowa State University at the Iowa Lakeside Lab.
Paul was a member of Saint Mark's Episcopal Pro-Cathedral in Hastings, NE. He was also a member of the following societies and organizations: British Ecological Society, Society of Wetland Scientist, Society for Range Management, Natural Areas Association, Prairie/Plains Resource Institute, Whooping Crane Conservation Association, International Crane Foundation, Nebraska Chapter Wildlife Society, Nebraska Academy of Sciences and The Nature Conservancy.
He was an Eagle Scout and enjoyed gardening, hunting, canoeing, sailing and foreign travel. He has visited China, Tibet, Nepal, Turkey, East Africa and the British Virgin Islands in recent years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother: Gary M. Currier.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Platte River Whooping Crane Habitat or the donor's choice.

Alice M. Conarty
Alice M. Conarty, 77, formerly of Goodland, Kansas died Wednesday, April 2, 2003 at the St. Francis Medical Center of Grand Island, NE.
Graveside Services will be held at 2:30 pm Monday, April 7, 2003 at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, CO.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
Alice Marie Conarty was born on October 26, 1925 in Rulton, Kansas to Paul and Nettie (Swift) Conarty. She grew up in Kanorado, KS and graduated from Kanorado High School. She received her Teaching Certificate from Greeley State College in Greeley, CO. She returned to Kansas and taught school in a one room school house in Wallace County, Kansas.
She was united in marriage to Kenneth on June 16, 1948 in McCook, Nebraska. After which the couple lived in various states and countries while her husband served in the United States Army. Following Kenneth’s retirement from the military in October of 1965 the couple resided in Aurora, CO where she continued to be a mother and housewife. Kenneth preceded her in death December 23, 1987. She returned to Goodland, KS in 1993. She spent the last two years in Grand Island with her daughter Paula, 5 months of which were spent in Park Place Health Care and Rehab Center.
She was a member of St. Leo’s Catholic Church and the T.R.E.A.. She enjoyed reading and watching sports in her spare time.
Survivors include,
Daughter and Son In Law: Paula and Richard Liby, Grand Island, NE
Grandson: Jerry Liby, Des Moines, IA
3 Great Granchildren: Joslyn, Paige, and Alec Liby
2 Nephews: Warren and Georgia Craft; Mike and Rosie Whiteman
Niece: Margaret Ann Criswell
Numerous Great Nieces and Nephews
Preceded in death by her husband Kenneth, her 3 sons Danny, Larry, and Jerry; 3 brothers Clyde, Dave and Tom Conarty; 2 sisters Addie Craft and Edith Whiteman

Lillian C. Brostrom
Lillian C. Brostrom, 75, of Grand Island, Nebraska died April 24, 2003 at the St. Francis Skilled Care of Grand Island, NE.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, April 28, 2003 at 3:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Grand Island, Nebraska with The Reverend Dr. Ray Schroeder and The Reverend Cheryl Lamb officiating. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Sunday with family receiving friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Grand Island Educational Foundation for the establishment of a scholarship or to the First Presbyterian Church. Blood may be donated to the American Red Cross in honor of Lillian.
Lillian C. Brostrom was born October 26, 1927 at Grand Island, NE to Conrad and Katherine (Liebsack) Benner.
Mrs. Brostrom attended Dodge Elementary, Barr Junior High, and Grand Island High School graduating in 1945. She married Ralph Brostrom in Grand Island on May 29, 1948. Prior to her marriage, she was a stenographer in the legal section at the Grand Island Army Air Force Base. Upon closing of the base, she was transferred to Spencer Park Housing Authority in Hastings. Upon her marriage, her husband attended Kearney State Teachers College whereby she transferred to the Kearney Army Air Force Base until its closing. In 1969, she went to work at Gibson Pharmacy, later known as John's Pharmacy until its closing in 1987.
Since her retirement, she volunteered at United Way, American Red Cross, at her Church and for various political campaigns. Due to her volunteer work at various elementary schools, she was awarded an honorary PTA Life Membership. She was a member of the Saddle Club and First Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Brostrom enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, and spending time with her three grandchildren.
