U.S., Obituary Collection, 1930-Current

Betty Schliemann
Betty Arlene Schliemann passed away Feb. 19, 2006, at her home in Upland, Calif.
Betty was born in North Platte, Neb., Oct. 30, 1928.
She was active in her church and with her community.
Betty is survived by her husband, Hal, of 57 years; daughter, Roxann Bane (spouse Dennis) of San Jose; son, Jon Dana Schliemann of Upland; daughter, Juliann Perdue (spouse Maxie) of Riverside; plus one granddaughter and six grandsons (Christin, Ryan, Trevor, Kyle, Willie, Hayden and Chaz).
She will join her grandson Jeffrey.
Betty married Harald (Hal) Schliemann in 1948 and they relocated to California in 1954. Betty and Hal moved to Upland in 1963.
She retired from Lockheed in Ontario as a Classified Documents Librarian in 1991. She also served a term on the San Bernardino Grand Jury.
Betty loved people and she loved to travel. She not only hosted foreign exchange students from Brazil, Norway and Finland, she welcomed everyone into her home. Betty had the brightest of smiles and will truly be missed by family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Life Bible Fellowship Church, 2426 N. Euclid Avenue, Upland, CA 91784.
Arrangements entrusted to Cucamonga Mortuary.
Memorial services were held on Feb. 23 at the Life Bible Fellowship Church.
Interment was on Feb. 24 at Riverside National Cemetery.

Anna Cooper
Anna Cooper died March 7, 2006, in Imperial, Neb.
She was born Jan. 28, 1924 in Wauneta, Neb.
Rosary was Friday, March 10, 2006, 7 p.m. at St. John's Catholic Church, Wauneta.
Funeral Mass was Saturday, March 11 at 10 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church, Wauneta.
Organist was Mrs. Barbara Smith, accompanist was Mrs. Judy Malone and soloist was Mr. Gary Malone.
Casketbearers were Aaron Kolbet, Mike Schneider, Scott Schneider, Joel (Rahmer) Gilbert, Dana Gruhn, Allen Erickson and Jeremy Miller.
Honorary casketbearers were Bruce Fulk, Paul Kunnemann, Clark Brown, Dick Sargeant, Leslie Ambrosek, George Miller, Martin Rousey, Don Myers and Ed Vapenik.
Interment was at Riverside Cemetery, Wauneta.
Liewer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Maxine Gerhardt
Maxine Gerhardt, 81, died March 13, 2006.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, March 17 at 10:30 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Holyoke, Colo.
Interment will follow in Holyoke Cemetery.
Visitation is planned Thursday, March 16 from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. at Jeffers-Baucke Funeral Home in Holyoke, Colo.
Memorials may be made to the Charla Berry Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Maxine was formerly of Lamar.

Ronald Peckham
Ronald "Terry" Peckham, 59, of Holyoke, Colo., died at his home in Holyoke on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2006.
Terry Peckham was born July 19, 1946 in Lincoln, Neb. to Earl and Rose Peckham.
He attended school in Holyoke, Colo. and had worked for Holyoke Co-op for many years as a maintenance man and was an avid hunter for pheasants and large game. Terry also enjoyed fishing; his favorite place to fish and camp was Enders Lake. He also enjoyed rock hunting.
He was known to his family as a "Gentle Giant," he looked forward to family gatherings especially around the holidays.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Gary Peckham and Lanny Peckham. Survivors include brothers, Larry Peckham of Denver, Colo. and Randy Peckham of Elco, Nev.
Services were held Monday, Feb. 27 at Jeffers-Baucke Funeral Chapel in Holyoke, Colo.
Burial will be at a later date at the Crete cemetery in Champion, Neb.
Memorials can be made to the Terry Peckham memorial fund in care of Larry Peckham, 2431 South Newberry Court, Denver, Colo. 80224.
Jeffers-Baucke Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Victor Papen
Victor L. Papen, 70, of Augusta, Kan. passed away, Feb. 14, 2006.
Victor was born in Lamar, Neb. on Sept. 6, 1935, the son of Virgil Clinton and Geneve (Monasmith) Papen.
He retired as a maintenance manager at Gateway Inn, Liberal, Kan.
He is survived by his wife, Martha; son, Michael "Sonny," Mannheim, Germany; stepson, Richard (Katherine) Crowe, Fresno, Calif.; stepdaughters, Leah Weston, Salem, Mass.; and Toni McEnaney (Roger Burns), Grandview, Mo.; brothers, Russell (Elaine), Mt. Home, Ark. and James (Lorraine), Rose Hill, Kan.; sister, Kathryn Widener, Haysville, Kan.; sister-in-law, Carolyn Papen, Tulsa, Okla.; four step grandchildren; four step great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert N. Papen; stepson, Joey Halvarson; and step-grandson, Kevin Le.
Services were conducted Saturday, Feb. 18, 2006 at Christ Lutheran Church, Augusta, Kan.
Burial was at Kechi Cemetery.
Memorials to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, Christ Lutheran Church or American Cancer Society.

Leo Zech
Leo Eugene Zech was born Nov. 7, 1929 to Paul and Lydia (Wagner) Zech of Imperial, Neb.
Leo was baptized, Dec. 8, 1929 and was confirmed by Rev. Herbert Schulenburg at Zion Lutheran Church in Imperial on May 28, 1944. Leo's Confirmation verse is Romans 1:16, "I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile."
Leo attended school in rural Chase County and was employed at Midwest Sales and Service for 10 years and Case for two years as a mechanic.
Leo was a bachelor with a wonderful personality. He loved homemade bread and Skippy peanut butter. Woodworking was his passion and he made many beautiful things. He also enjoyed gardening.
Leo went to be with his Lord on Feb. 21, 2006 at the Perkins County Hospital in Grant, Neb. at the age of 76 years.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Paul and Lydia Zech; nephew, Duane Greim and brother-in-law, Melvin Greim.
Survivors include sister, Arline Greim of Omaha, Neb.; nephew, DeWayne Greim of Omaha, Neb.; great nieces, Amy and Lindsey Magdanz; special friend, Marla Kramer of Grant, Neb.; and many cousins and friends.
Services were held Friday, Feb. 24, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Imperial.
Pallbearers were Ivan Ekart, Richard Mueller, Clinton Nordhausen, Kermit Kuecker, Mike Fanning and Dave Oxford.
Honorary pallbearers were Gilbert Greim, Art Wagner, Bob Ahrens, Dave Magdanz, DeWayne Greim and Jim Wagner.
A memorial has been established in his memory. Cards may be sent to Carol Greim, 13308 Hascall Street, Omaha, NE 68144.
Liewer Funeral Home of Imperial was in charge of arrangements.

Leo Zech
Leo E. Zech, 76, of Imperial, Neb. passed away Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2006, at Perkins County Hospital in Grant.
Survivors include one sister, Arline Greim of Omaha; nieces, Joan Magdanz and husband David of Houston, Texas, and Carol Greim of Omaha, Neb.; and one nephew, DeWayne Greim of Omaha.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Feb. 23, evening from 6-8 p.m. at Liewer Funeral Home.
Services will be held Friday, Feb. 24, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Imperial.
A memorial has been established in his memory.
Liewer Funeral Home of Imperial is in charge of arrangements.

Caroline Cole
Caroline C. Cole was born March 18, 1925, in Wilmington, N.C. and passed away Feb. 10, 2006.
Caroline graduated from New Hanover High School in Wilmington in 1943.
She worked as a civil servant where she met her husband of 49 years, Victor Cole. She and Victor had six children from coast to coast: Pamela Gardner in North Carolina, Ken Cole, Patty Sullivan, Penny Heaton and David Cole in Nebraska and Vickie Regen in Oregon.
She and Victor moved their family from Imperial, Neb. to Albany, Ore. in 1962, where she resided until 2004 when she moved to Portland, Ore. to be near her children.
Caroline is survived by her six children; 15 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

Mildred Lattimer
Mildred Irene Zajic Lattimer entered into eternal peace at her home on Friday, Jan. 20, 2006. Funeral services were held on Jan. 25, at Dakan Funeral Chapel, Caldwell, Idaho. Burial followed at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Caldwell, Idaho.
Mildred was born on Jan. 27, 1923, to Vencle and Elizabeth Kudrna Zajic in Red Cloud, Neb. She had one brother, Ernest and five sisters, Albie, Evelyn, Edith, Elsie and Bernice. Mildred was raised and educated in Imperial, Neb. After graduation, she taught school for three years.
Mildred met and fell in love with Donald L. Lattimer, also of Imperial. They were married on June 20, 1944, in St. Francis, Kan. After the birth of their first child, Darrell, they moved to Caldwell in 1949 to live on a dairy farm. Their second and third children, Richard and Donna, were born while they were living here. Donald's work later took them to California and Nevada. Upon returning to Idaho, they started a logging business in Emmett. In 1960, they moved back to Caldwell where Donald worked for Dairymen's Creamery and Mildred worked for Crookham Seed Company until her retirement.
Mildred and Donald loved to fish and to grow the most gorgeous and bountiful gardens together. In 1979, they purchased their dream home in Nampa, which they were able to enjoy together for a short time before Donald's passing.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, beloved husband, brother and four sisters.
She is survived by her three children, Darrell (Kathy) Lattimer, Richard (Kathy) Lattimer and Donna (Bob) Turnbull; 12 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Bernice Power; along with many nieces and nephews.
