U.S., Obituary Collection, 1930-Current

Marvin Bischoff
Marvin Bischoff, age 77, passed away early Monday morning, Nov. 29, 2004, at the Chase County Community Hospital, Imperial, Neb.
Survivors include wife, Arlene of Imperial, Neb.; daughters, Jolee Stebbins and husband, Mike of Lawrenceville, Ga., Deann Markley and husband, James of Gilbert, Ariz., Marilou Bischoff of Imperial, Neb., Valjean Boe of Pierre, S.D.; sons, Michael Bischoff and wife, Mitzi of Montgomery, Mich., Jason Bischoff of Pierre, S.D.; 10 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; sister, Shirley Gardner and husband, Larry of Imperial, Neb.
Funeral services will be today, Thursday afternoon, Dec. 2, 2004, 2 p.m. (MT) at the Zion Lutheran Church of Imperial with Pastor Ronald Krause officiating.
Interment will follow at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, south of Wauneta, Neb.
A memorial has been established in Marvin's memory.
Visitation was held Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 1, 2-6 p.m. (MT) at the funeral home in Imperial.
Liewer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Marjory Alsbury
Marjory Alsbury, a longtime Dixon, Calif. resident, died peacefully at the Vacaville, Calif. Rehabilitation and Convalescence Center on Nov. 11, 2004. She was 85.
A funeral service was held Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2004, at Gateway Chapel in Winters, Calif.
Interment followed at the Silveyville cemetery in Dixon, Calif.
Born in Benkelman, Neb. on March 31, 1919, she taught school before marrying her high school sweetheart May 26, 1940.
Marjory was a gifted seamstress, taught 4-H, judged sewing at county fairs and was an accomplished gardener.
Marjory worked at UCD and retired in 1989. Marjory kept herself busy with many projects until she was no longer able. She was a member of the Dixon Community Church and of the Dixon Senior Citizens' Center.
She was preceded in death on March 20, 1968, by her husband, Glen Wesley Alsbury.
She is survived by her four children, daughter Sylvia Jean Humphreys and her husband Merril of Imperial, Neb., son Merwyn Glen Alsbury and his wife Linda of Winters, Calif., son Loren Dean Alsbury of Dixon, Calif., daughter Glenda Lynn Curiale and her husband Tom of Colorado Springs, Colo.; nine grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Marjory will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to: National Breast Cancer Foundation, One Hanover Park, 16633 N. Dallas Parkway, Suite 600, Addison, TX 75001.

Wilma Wittwer
Wilma Ruth "Sis" Wittwer, age 82, of Imperial died Sunday, Nov. 14, 2004, at The Nebraska Heart Hospital in Lincoln, Neb.
Ruth was born to Elmer and Ethel Wilson on Sept. 9, 1922 in rural Hayes County. She attended school in Hayes Center and graduated from Hayes County High School in 1940.
On Dec. 25, 1942, Ruth was united in marriage to Arthur Wittwer in Las Vegas, Nev. After Art returned from the service, they lived on a farm north of Hayes Center until 1995, when they moved to Imperial.
Ruth was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Imperial and enjoyed Bible study and fellowship. She enjoyed her family, especially the grandchildren, socializing with the many friends she met over the years and working with her hands.
Survivors include her husband, Art Wittwer of Imperial; three children Marcia Fowler and husband Duane of Imperial and children, Gretchen and Donavon, both of Grand Island, Susan Oman and husband Craig of Callaway and children Kara Grauerholz and husband Brandon of Kearney, Jason of Callaway, Matthew and wife, Brandi and great grandson Elijah of Callaway, Kristina Karsten and husband Brent of Kearney and Clark Wittwer and wife Judi and children Christopher and Josalyn of Lincoln.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother and sister-in-law, Edward and LoisLee Wilson and nephew Lawrence Wilson.
Pallbearers were Jason Oman, Matthew Oman, Christopher Wittwer and Donavon Fowler, grandsons; and Robert Wilson and Gaylord Lawson, nephews.
Honorary pallbearers were Craig Oman and Duane Fowler, sons-in-law.

Mary May Hill
Mary May Hill, 104, of Haxtun, Colo. died Nov. 8, 2004 in Haxtun.
Mrs. Hill was born March 15, 1900, in Paoli to Samuel and Mary Elizabeth (Helm) Goddard.
She attended rural school in Paoli and later taught school south of Holyoke, Colo. for several years.
She worked for a time as a telephone operator in Oklahoma, and returned to Colorado after she married Frank Hill of Haxtun, Colo. on Sept. 10, 1924. They lived near Holyoke where she cooked for the road crews that Mr. Hill worked with.
They farmed for several years near Arapahoe during the Dust Bowl and then returned to Phillips County, living on a farm northeast of Haxtun until Mr. Hill's death in January 1954.
She then moved to Haxtun and remained there until December 2000, when she moved to the Heritage Living Center.
Funeral services were held Nov. 12 at 11 a.m. at the Gerk Funeral Home in Haxtun, Colo. with Pastor Keith Hudiburgh officiating.
Burial followed at Haxtun Cemetery.

Wilma 'Ruth' Wittwer
Wilma "Ruth" Wittwer, age 82, passed away Sunday afternoon, Nov. 14, 2004, at the Nebraska Heart Hospital in Lincoln, Neb.
Survivors include husband Art of Imperial, Neb.; daughter Marcia Fowler and husband Duane of Imperial, Neb.; daughter Susan Oman and husband Craig of Callaway, Neb.; son Clark Wittwer and wife Judi of Lincoln, Neb.; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Funeral services for Ruth Wittwer will be held today (Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004), at 10 a.m. (MT) at the Zion Lutheran Church of Imperial with Pastor Ronald Krause officiating.
Interment will follow at the Hayes Center Cemetery, Hayes Center, Neb., at 2 p.m. (MT).
Visitation was Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 17, 2004, 2-6 p.m. (MT) at the funeral home in Imperial.
A memorial has been established to the American Diabetes Association.
Liewer Funeral Home of Imperial is in charge of arrangements.

Glen Silvester
Glen Silvester was born Oct. 19, 1919 to Frank and Hattie Silvester in Plymouth, Neb. and died Nov. 2, 2004. He was 85.
Though born in Plymouth, Neb., Glen spent his childhood in Champion, Neb.
He joined the Navy in 1941 and became a Pearl Harbor survivor.
He shipped out to New Zealand where he met and married Lilian Reader.
He served in the Navy during the campaigns of the South Pacific, returning to the USA in 1945.
After a two-year assignment at Columbia University in New York City teaching Naval ROTC personnel, Lilian and he settled in Fairbury, Neb.
In Fairbury, he learned his life-long trade of carpentry. He returned to military service for the Korean War and in 1956 the family moved to Santa Rosa, Calif., where he resided until October of 2004.
While in Santa Rosa, he became a general contractor until his retirement.
His was a lifelong member of the First Methodist Church of Santa Rosa, the American Legion and the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association. In his latter years he enjoyed going to the ship reunions for the USS Rigel he served on at Pearl Harbor and the USS Blue during the Korean War.
His other pursuits were fishing, gardening and woodworking.
He suffered from declining health and moved to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho in October of 2004 at the request of his son, Leonard. Following a short illness, he passed away in his sleep on the afternoon of Nov. 2. His heart wore out after a long and full life.
He will be buried next to his wife of 53 years, Lilian, in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Imperial, Neb.
Graveside services will be held at a date to be announced.
Survivors include son Leonard Silvester and wife Lynn of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; brother Bill Silvester of Champion, Neb.; sisters Bea Bauerle and husband Don of Champion, Neb., Dee Fries of Benkelman, Neb., Helen Pitts and husband John of Denver, Colo., Bertha McDougall and husband Jim of Denver, Colo. and Emma Enoch and husband John of Taft, Calif.; brother Mark Silvester and wife Lois of Schuyler, Neb.; sister-in-law Leona Silvester of Fairbury, Neb.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Liewer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Junior 'J.R.' Fitzpatrick
Junior "J.R." Fitzpatrick, 73, of Kokomo, Ind. died Nov. 6, 2004, at Howard Regional Health.
He was born in Imperial, Neb. to Roy H. and Lillian (Day) Fitzpatrick on June 18, 1931.
He married Delores Daugherty on Nov. 23, 1950.
He was a member of the Bunker Hill First Baptist Church and did volunteer work for the Lord.
He retired from the Air Force after 21 years, retired from Chrysler where he was in machine repair and was owner of Wholesale Auto Supply.
He is survived by his wife Delores Fitzpatrick; son Jerry Fitzpatrick and wife Rebecca of Miami, Ind.; son Dean Fitzpatrick and wife Rhonda of Rochester, Ind.; son Daryl Fitzpatrick and wife Kelly of Kokomo, Ind.; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; brother Seth Fitzpatrick of Imperial, Neb.; and sister Karen Fitzpatrick of Denver, Colo.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2004 at 10 a.m. at the Bunker Hill First Baptist Church with Pastor Charles Layne officiating.
Burial was in the Springdale Cemetery, Bunker Hill, Ind.
Memorials may be sent to Tippecanoe Church Camp.
Allen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Elnora Kitt
Elnora M. Kitt was born April 6, 1929 at Stratton, Neb. to Harry and Thelma (Irelan) Cushing.
Elnora was raised on a farm north of Stratton and graduated from Stratton High School in 1946.
On Aug. 21, 1949, Elnora was united in marriage to Paul W. Kitt in Stratton, Neb. To this union, three children were born: Craig, Paula and Kent.
Elnora and Paul raised their children and lived on the farm south of Wauneta, Neb. their entire married lives.
She was a faithful, long-time member of Mt. Zion Methodist Church and the United Methodist Church of Wauneta.
Elnora was a devoted homemaker and farm wife. In her early years she actively volunteered in youth programs including Boy Scouts, 4-H and Sunday School.
She took great pride in her cooking and gardening. Her artistic abilities were expressed through her needlecraft and paintings. In her later years, Elnora enjoyed playing golf, traveling and sewing with friends.
Elnora passed away Wednesday morning, Nov. 10, 2004, at her home on the farm south of Wauneta, Neb. She was 75 years of age.
Those who this day grieve her passing and celebrate Elnora's life include husband Paul Kitt of rural Wauneta; son Craig of East Hampton, NY; daughter Paula Kitt of Lenexa, Kan.; son Kent Kitt of rural Wauneta; grandson Ryan Busking of Houston, Texas; brothers Harold Cushing and wife Oleta of ShowLow, Ariz., Erwin Cushing and wife Joyce of Stratton, Neb. and Willis Cushing and wife Jamie of Las Cruces, NM; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Ervin and Joan Kitt of Wauneta; sister-in-law Margie Shackelford and husband Clifford of Wauneta; many nieces and nephews.
Those who have gone on to glory are her parents.
Funeral services were held Saturday morning, Nov. 13, 2004, at 10 a.m. (MST) at the United Methodist Church of Wauneta with Pastor Judy Dye officiating.
Pianist was Mr. Craig Kitt and organist was Mrs. Lucille McBride.
Casketbearers were Ryan Busking, Don Harrison, Loren Cushing, Keenan Kitt, Kevin Janicek and Keith Busking.
Interment followed at Riverside Cemetery, Wauneta.
A memorial has been established to the United Methodist Church of Wauneta or the Wauneta Senior Center.
Liewer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
