Dean Fenimore
Dean Lyle Fenimore, 93, of Superior, died Friday at Bryan East LGH in Lincoln. The son of James Lyle and Mildred G. Thompson Fenimore, he was born Oct. 9, 1923, in Superior. After attending Superior Public Schools, he graduated from Superior High School with the Class of 1941.
Shortly after graduation, Dean moved to live with family members in the Seattle, Wash., area, where he worked for the Boeing Aircraft Company, building the airplanes that would become B-17 bombers in World War II. He quit this job in June 1942 and enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps. During the war years, he was stationed on an air base located north of London, England. Ironically, Dean was a crew chief overseeing the loading of bombs and armament on B-17s.
After returning home from the war he took a job with a civilian construction company, which was helping to rebuild the island of Guam after it was nearly destroyed by American bombing during the war. Dean signed up for a one-year term and returned to Superior after the year was up.
Dean worked for the Ideal Cement Co. for a short time before getting on full time with the U.S. Postal Service carrying mail in Superior. He held this job for nearly 30 years.
Dean was united in marriage to Carol Tyler on Sept. 2, 1948, at the Methodist Parsonage in Superior. The union was blessed with the birth of two sons, James L. and Michael D. An infant daughter was lost at birth.
Dean throughly enjoyed going for drives and was happiest while camping. Dean and Carol were members of the Excel Camping Club of Nebraska and looked forward to their bi-annual campouts. He was also a life member of VFW Post No. 3355 and American Legion Post No. 103, both of Superior. He had also been a member of the Superior Volunteer Fire Department for 27 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dana Fenimore; sister, Donis Olena; and his wife of 65 years, Carol.
Survivors include his sons, James L. Fenimore and Michael D. Fenimore, both of Superior; two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends.
His funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Williams Funeral Home Chapel in Superior, with Missie Wilt officiating. Inurnment with military honors will be held at Evergreen Cemetery, Superior. Williams Funeral Home of Superior is in charge of the arrangments.

Mark Laybourn, 69, a Superior resident,died July 11 at Hastings. Per his request a funeral was not scheduled. Megrue-Price Funeral Home served the family.

Sharon Griess
Sharon Kaye Griess, 73, died July 6, at Lincoln, Neb.
Her funeral was held July 10, at Sutton Memorial Chapel, Sutton, Neb., with Pastor Mary Scott officiating. Interment followed at the Sutton cemetery with military honors by the American Legion Argonne Post.
Sharon Griess was born Feb. 3, 1944, in Superior to Paul and Bertha (Burch) Ball. She received her education is the Superior Public Schools and graduated from Superior High School in 1962. Shortly after graduation, Sharon enlisted in the United States Navy and served honorable as a navy nurse from 1962 until 1964. After her military service, she moved back to Nebraska and worked as a nurse at Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln. It was at Bryan where she met her future husband, Robert Griess. They were married in Lincoln on Sept. 3, 1966.
Over the years, Sharon and Bob, along with their son, Kevin, lived in California, Kentucky and Oklahoma before moving to Sutton in 1974. In 1986, because of medical reasons, they moved back to Lincoln, where Sharon remained until her death.
She was an active member of the Capitol City Christian Church.
Sharon enjoyed the close friendships of Sharon Ernst and Carol Hoffart of Lincoln. Survivors include her son, Kevin, San Antonio, Texas; grandsons, Eric Griess of Helsingborg, Sweden and Jason Griess of Charlottesville, Va.; brother, Richard, San Diego, Calif.; and sisters, Mrs. Roger Biltoft (Diane), of Oak., Neb., Mrs. Robert Hoffman (Marilyn), Juniata, and Mrs. Randy Baylie (Janis), of Holdrege.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Robert, on Feb. 28, 2000.

Dennis Rothchild
Dennis Delbert Rothchild, the son of Delbert and Carrie (Wyatt) Rothchild, was born on July 25, 1941, in Seattle, Wash. He died on June 12, 2017, at the Belleville Health Care at Belleville, Kan., at the age of 75 years, 10 months and 19 days.
Dennis graduated from Lovewell High School. He was a member of the Webber United Methodist Church. Dennis lived most his life in Jewell County, Kan., near Mankato.
He was employed at Ideal Cement until the plant closed. He relocated to Dodge City, Kan., where he was employed as a meat inspector for the USDA. He was united in marriage to Roberta Akins at Dodge City, Kan.
Dennis enjoyed hunting, fishing and raising horses. His family was most important to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Roberta; sister-in-law, Cheryl Rothchild; brother-in-law, Marvin Crane; and nephew, Michael Crane.
He is survived by his siblings, Shirley Crane of Superior, Neb.; Lyman and wife, Janice, of Monet, Mo.; Delmar and wife, Glenda, of Downs, Kan.; Doyle and wife, Phyllis, of Mankato, Kan.; Jana Stokes and husband, Art, of Columbus, Neb.; and Marlin and wife, Maria, of Aurora, Neb.; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held on Friday, June 16, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior, Neb., with Pastor Gerry Sharp officiating.
Music was "Amazing Grace" and "In The Garden," with Stephanie Thayer as the soloist and Carlita Price as her accompanist.
Visitation was held on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m.
Pallbearers were his nephews, Bryan Rothchild, Travis Rothchild, Shannon Rothchild, Shea Rothchild, Kevin Tuxhorn, Ryan Tuxhorn, Chad Rothchild and Erik Rothchild. Honorary pallbearers were his great- and great-great-nephews, Alex, James, Tate, Teagan, Tage, Weston, Shelton, Noah, Trenton, Isaias, Casey, Zanthony and Kayzen.
Interment with military honors was in the Webber cemetery at Webber, Kan.
Memorials are suggested to go to the Alzheimer's Association or the Belleville Health Care Center.

Jackie R. Sorensen
Jacqueline Raye Sorensen, the daughter of Wilford and Agnes (McCann) Greenrod, was born on Dec. 2, 1938, in Nebraska City, Neb. She died on June 12, 2017, at the Parkview Haven Nursing Home in Deshler, Neb., at the age of 78 years and six months.
Jackie attended and graduated from the Nebraska City school system. She was baptized as an infant at the United Methodist Church in Syracuse, Neb. Jackie was united in marriage to Karl Sorensen on Dec. 28, 1955, in Nebraska City. This union was blessed with three children: Karen, Karla and Michael.
Jackie enjoyed playing the piano and organ and she loved to bake, read, work puzzles and embroidery. Jackie and Karl enjoyed traveling together and enjoyed the outdoors. Jackie was a member of many clubs and church organizations.
In her lifetime, Jackie lived in Syracuse, Nebraska City, San Rafael, Calif., Denver and Elizabeth Colo., and Nelson, Neb., before moving to Parkview Haven in Deshler.
Jackie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Karl, in March 2008; and grandson, Kyle, in January 2006.
She is survived by her daughters, Karen Berends and husband, Kent, of Kiowa, Colo., and Karla DeVaney and husband, Mike DeVaney, of Nelson, Neb., her son, Michael Sorensen, and wife, Sharon, of Durham, Kan.; nine grandchildren, Kelly Backlund (Jesse), Kendra Forney (Scott), Keri Bell (Silvan), Janelle McKenna (Matthew), Sarah Cornelius (DJ), Wade Sorensen (Tania), Lee Sorensen, Gage Montoya (Sara), and Kelsey Ullom (Dustin), and 15 12 great-grandchildren; her sister Lana Roumpf and husband, Kent, of Nebraska City, Neb., other relatives and a host of friends.
Memorial services were held on Saturday, June 24, 2017, at 2 p.m. from the Nelson Community United Church of Christ in Nelson, Neb., with Pastor Ivan Dean officiating.
Music was "How Great Thou Art" and recordings of "Phantom of the Opera-Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again" and "Peter and the Wolf," with Mary Statz as the accompanist.
Visitation was held on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m.
Honorary pallbearers were Jackie's grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Inurnment was in the Nelson cemetery at Nelson, Neb.
Memorials are suggested to go to the Nelson Cemetery, in care of Russ Snyder.

Hazel Meyers
Hazel M. Meyers, 79, of Wilber, died last Sunday at her home. She was born in Red Cloud on Feb. 23, 1938, to Keller and Ethel (Carlton) Barnes.
She enjoyed time with her family and friends, playing Bingo and Yahtzee, trying her luck at casinos and reading books by her favorite author, Cassie Edwards.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Don Meyers; sisters, Doramay Meline, Ruth Oliver and Virginia Merryman, and brothers, Charles, Floyd, Gene, James and Junior Barnes.
Survivors include her sons, Charles Nelson of Hastings, Donald Nelson of Powell and Brian Nelson of Wilber; daughters, Mrs. George Griel (Arliene) of Superior, Mrs. Donovan Fox (Connie) of Fairbury and Mrs. Edward Filipi (Billie) of Wilber; a brother, Clifford Barnes of Burr Oak; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside service was 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Wilber Czech Cemetery. Attendees were requested to wear casual attire and red, Hazel's favorite color.

John Overton
John Junior Overton, the son of John and Francis Overton Berry, was born on Nov. 25, 1928, in Delmar, Ala. He died on June 15, 2017, at his residence at Hardy, Neb., at the age of 88 years, six months and 21 days.
John attended Kings School in Alabama. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1960.
He was united in marriage to Tammie Sheldon on Dec. 11, 1993, in Lincoln, Neb.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, one sister and an infant son.
He is survived by his wife, Tammie; children, Candice Garcia, Calvin Overton, Jim Overton, John Overton, Steve Overton, Judy Overton and Tony "John" Overton; 21 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; his brother, Jim Overton, of Ohio; other relatives and a host of friends.
There will be no funeral service scheduled for John.
Public visitation was held on Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may go to the family.
