Rebecca Hansen, 49

Rebecca Sue Hansen, 49, formerly of Blair, died Friday, June 20, 1997 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Services will be 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Blair. Burial will be in the Logan cemetery in Logan, Iowa.

Hansen was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, April 1, 1948 to Nick and Georgia ( Hinds ) Brady. She graduated from Logan - Magnolia High School in 1966 and later worked as an office manager at Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha. She lived in Blair for 17 years prior to moving to Webster City, Iowa in 1996. She was most recently employed at Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls, Iowa.

Survivors are her daughter, Terre Evans; a son and daughter - in - law, Eric and Laura Hansen, all of Dallas, Tex.; a granddaughter, Makenzie Evans and her fiancee, Jeff Arends, Webster City, Iowa; and two sisters, Patricia Kuester, Omaha and Veronica Dayhuff, Logan.

Campbell - Aman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Raymond Prochnow, 69
3/21/28 - 6/3/97
Raymond William Prochnow of Desoto, Tex., died Tuesday, June 3, 1997 after a lengthy illness.

Services were June 7 at David Clayton and Sons Funeral Chapel in Duncanville, Tex. Rev. Gene Welborn officiated. Burial was in Little Bethel Memorial Park in Duncanville.

Prochnow was born March 21, 1928 in Fort Calhoun to William and Margaret ( Fuhrman ) Prochnow. An army veteran of the Korean Conflict, he had a 39 - year career with Alexander Smith Carpets/Mohasco Corp.

Survivors are his wife of 42 years, Sharline Prochnow of Desoto; a son and daughter - in - law, Keith and Kim Prochnow of Haslet, Tex.; a daughter, Kristi Prochnow of Desoto; a sister, Lillian Prochnow of Fort Calhoun; a brother and sister - in - law, Harry and Cliss Prochnow, Chula Vista, Calif.; a brother - in - law, Percy Weathers of Fort Calhoun; nieces, nephews, great - nieces and great - nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Weathers; and a sister and brother - in - law, Lean and Hans Knag.

Pallbearers were Jerry Vogt, Buddy Dickerson, Jerry Marsh, Terry Bigham, Les Snediker and Steve McLauchlin.

George Franke, 83
6/23/14 - 8/27/97
George A. Franke, 83, of Nickerson died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 1997 at Arbor Manor in Fremont.

Services were Saturday at First Christian Church in Fremont. Pastor W. Ronald Johnson officiated. Burial was in Memorial cemetery at Fremont.

Geroge Franke was born June 23, 1914 at Fontanelle to George and Wilhelmine ( Kaempf ) Franke. He grew up and attended school at Fontanelle. He farmed near Fontanelle until 1972. He then moved to Nickerson and started work at Valmont Industries in Valley, where he worked in the shipping and receiving department until retiring in 1980. On Dec. 25, 1944, he married Margaret Wulbern. She preceded him in death. On Sept. 20, 1975, he married Gladys J. Brokaw Whittington.

He was a member of First Christian Church and a former Salem Lutheran Church member; was superintendent of the Sunday School for many years; served on the Fontanelle School board and was a 4 - H leader for many years.

Survivors are his wife, Gladys; a son and daughter - in - law, George and Karen Franke of Omaha; a daughter and son - in - law, Maralee and Jim Taylor of Wahoo; two brothers and sisters - in - law, Chester and Janet Franke of Scottsbluff and Herbert and Alberta Franke of Fremont; a sister, Helen Franke of Fremont and four grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and his first wife, he was also preceded in death by three sisters. Pallbearers were Mike McMurtry, Dan McMurtry, Leland Brokaw, Don Andersen, Kent Andersen and Max West.

Honorary pallbearers were Kevin Andersen, Kelly Andersen, Kris Andersen, Darrel Laaker, T. J. Taylor and Ray Hoeneman.

Memorials may be given to First Christian Church.

Susan Paine - Gunchick, 37
1/17/60 - 8/28/97
Susan Louise Paine - Gunchick, 37 died Thursday, Aug. 28, 1997 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

Services are 10:30 Tuesday at First Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the Blair Cemetery.

Susan Paine - Gunchick was born to Hildreth and Charlotte ( Bohs ) Paine Jan. 17, 1960 in Omaha. She graduated from Blair High School in 1978. She attending the College of St. Mary's Nursing School in Omaha and received her pin in 1983. In 1984, she married Daniel L. Gunchick at First Lutheran Church in Blair. She worked most of her career at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in November of 1993.

Survivors are her husband, Dan; son, Jake, both of Blair; her mother and stepfather, Rodger and Charlotte Bauer; brothers and sisters - in - law, Carl and Carleene Paine, Tekamah; Tommy and Carol Paine, Spiker, Washington County and Al and Patricia Gunchick of Willow Springs, Ill.; sisters and brother - in - law, Mary Paine - Blobaum and Jeannie and Steve Beck of Blair; step - children, Debra ( Mrs. Joe ) Tunkl and Danny Davis of Countryside, Ill.; a nephew, Charles Blobaum of Blair; nieces, Anna Blobaum of Morgantown; W. V.; Meredith and Sarah Paine of Gilmore City, Iowa and many cousins, uncles and aunts.

She was preceded in death by her father, Hildreth Paine.

Earl Korshoj, 70
1/6/27 - 8/28/97
Earl S. Korshoj, 70 of Fremont died at his home Thursday, Aug. 28, 1997. Services were Monday at the First Lutheran Church with Rev. Mark Grorud and Rev. Norman Freund officiating. Burial was in the Frazier cemetery near Missouri Valley, Iowa.

Earl Korshoj was born Jan. 6, 1927 to Chris and Esther ( Madsen ) Korshoj at Herman. He was a 1944 graduate of the Herman High School and attended the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. He worked for Korshoj Construction of Blair and then Korshoj Lumber at Herman. He moved to Fremont in 1950 and operated Korshoj Lumber in Fremont for 27 years. On Feb. 17, 1952, he married Virginia Clark in Logan, Iowa.

He was a member of First Lutheran Church, was past president of the Nebraska Lumberman's Association, was a member of the Nebraska Softball Hall of Fame, Landmark Masonic Lodge No. 222 A.F. & A. M. of Herman, a past long - time member of the Fremont Kiwanis Club and sponsored the girls' softball team, Lumberjills, for many years.

Survivors are his son and daughter - in - law, Erik and Tam Korshoj of Omaha; daughters and son - in - law, Lisa and Rex Davies of Columbus and Merri Chris Korshoj of Elkhorn; three grandchildren, Jenna Davies, Tara Korshoj and Lee Korshoj; a brother, Frank Korshoj of Herman and two sisters and brothers - in - law, Betty and Gene Megrue of Blair and Marilyn and Leonard Jackson of Fremont.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia on June 15, 1994; his parents; and a brother, Raymond.

Memorials may be given to First Lutheran Church, Hospice Program of Memorial Hospital and the American Cancer Society.

Ludvigsen Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Igena Maertins, 92

Igena A. Schweigart Maertins, 92, of Crowell Memorial Home in Blair died Thursday, Aug. 28, 1997.

Services were Saturday at Campbell - Aman Funeral Home.

Igena Maertins was born April 14, 1905 at Naper, Neb. to Fred and Bertha ( Moer ) Schweigart. She married Adolf "Buffaloe" Maertins in Naper. She worked as a nurse's aide all her life, retiring in 1976.

She was a member of the Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her sons, Arthur Maertins, Colorado; Lester Maertins, Colorado; Earl Maertins, Illinois; daughters and son - in - law, Lucille and Robert Fuhrer, Blair; Adeline Austin and June Graham, both of California; 18 grandchildren and eight great - grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a sister, Helen and four brothers, Jake, Hank, John and Bob.

Stella Lallman, 85
6/6/12 - 8/24/97
Stella F. Lallman, 85, of Arlington died Sunday, Aug. 24, 1997 at the Nebraska Veteran's Home in Norfolk, Neb.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont. Burial will be in the Salem Lutheran cemetery at Fontanelle.

Stella Lallman was born June 6, 1912 in Brandon, Iowa and grew up in Hay Springs, Neb. Her maiden name was Evans. In the late 1940s, she married Arthur H. Lallman in Papillion. They lived most of their married years in Arlington, before moving to a home in Blair and then to the Nebraska Veteran's Home. She had worked for Campbell Soup Company in Fremont.

Survivors are her many friends, including special friends, Don and Lois Rogert of Waterloo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur, in January, 1994 and by an infant child.
