Kenneth E. Hesse, August 28, 2008, age 81

Kenneth E. Heese of North Bend died Aug. 28, 2008, at Alegent Hospital in Schuyler.
Kenneth was born Aug. 25, 1927, to William and Elizabeth (Beaumont) Hesse in Dodge. He graduated from Scribner High School. Kenneth farmed northwest of North Bend until retiring in 1990.
On Aug. 28, 1965, he married Erlaine Swanson at St. John’s Ridgeley Lutheran Church. They moved to North Bend in 1973. Erlaine died Jan. 21, 2008.
Kenneth was a former member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church at Pleasant Valley until the church closed, serving on the church council. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, North Bend.
Kenneth is survived by his brother Maynard (Marjean) Heese of Schuyler; sister Vergean (Jim) Joiner of Rolla, Mo.; sister-in-law Margaret Heese of Fremont.
The funeral is 10:30 a.m., Sept. 3, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Fred Andersen officiating. Visitation will be Sept. 2, 2 to 8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. and a Prayer Service at 7 p.m., all at Moser Memorial Chapel, North Bend. There will be visitation at the church Wednesday one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be at Memorial cemetery in Fremont.
Memorials are suggested for the church or the North Bend Library New Building Fund. Obit dated Sept. 10, 2008.

Mary C. (Moore) Sauer, August 28, 2008, age 93

Mary C. Moore Sauer of Schuyler died Aug. 28, 2008, at Mory’s Haven in Columbus.
The funeral was Aug. 30 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Schuyler with Rev. Gerald Leise officiating. Burial was at Holy Cross cemetery in Schuyler.
Mary was born April 9, 1915, in Park, Kan.,to Paul and Elizabeth (Ochs) Kaiser. She graduated from Park High School.
On Aug. 4, 1941, she married Joseph Richard Moore at Park Sacred Heart Catholic Church. After the war, they moved to Schuyler where she worked at the Top Notch Cafe and later at D&L in Columbus until retirement. Joseph died Nov.17, 1970.
On Feb. 14, 1986, Mary married Peter Sauer, Jr. at Rose Hill, Kansas. Pete died in 1991.
Mary was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Little Flower Altar Society and was a Charter Member of the VFW Auxiliary.
Mary is survived by daughter, Edith Iwan of Thoreau, N. M.; sons, Brendan Moore of Lincoln, Raymond (Lorraine) Moore of Bellwood, Albin (Linda) Moore of Columbus; brothers, Matthew (Dolly) Kaiser of Costa Mesa, Calif., Bill Kaiser of Phoenix, Ariz., sister Regina (Doug) Adams of Hemet, Calif.; step-daughter D’Ann (Bob) Hurst of Apache Junction, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren. Obit dated Sept. 10, 2008.

Marvin Jedlicka, August 25, 2008, age 73

Marvin Jedlicka of Schuyler died Aug. 25, 2008, at his home. The funeral was Aug. 29 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Schuyler with Rev. Gerald Leise officiating. The burial was at Schuyler cemetery with military honors by Hespen-Mitchell Post 4836 of the V.F.W. and McLeod Post #47 of the American Legion.
Marvin was born Sept.25, 1934, in Colfax County to Adolph and Vlasta (Novotny) Jedlicka. He graduated from Schuyler High School in 1951 and served in the United States Navy.
On April 24, 1957, Marvin married Shirley Kracman at Holy Trinity Catholic Church of Heun.They lived and farmed northwest of Schuyler until moving to Schuyler
in 1995, where he worked as a clerk for Brichacek Auction Company.
Marvin was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Schuyler, the Knights of Columbus, Schuyler Eagle’s Club and McLeod Post #47 of the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife Shirley, son Jay (Lois) Jedlicka; daughter Jolene (Randy) Kassmeier; brother Gordon (Maxine) Jedlicka, all of Schuyler; six grandchildren; one great-grandson. Obit dated Sept. 10, 2008.

A. Dean Arps, August 25, 2008, age 74

Aron Dean Arps of Morse Bluff died Aug. 25, 2008, in Fremont.
Dean was born Dec. 9, 1933, in Schuyler to Fred and Esther (Stoltenberg) Arps. He grew up in the Linwood and Abie area and was a graduate of David City High School. In 1952 Dean and his father started a gravel pumping business. Dean then served in the Army from 1956 to 1958. After his discharge he and Fred started Arps Red-E-Mix in North Bend. He lived in North Bend until 1973 then moved to Fremont. Dean retired from the concrete business in 1989 and started farming in North Bend in 1990. In 2002 he moved to Morse Bluff.
Dean was a member of First Lutheran Church, Fremont, Masonic Lodge #119, A.F. & A.M. of North Bend.
On May 24, 1958, Dean married Marilyn J. Loseke in Schuyler. She died Feb. 22, 2003.
Survivors include sons Michael (Tricia) Arps, Mitch (Kathy VanWaes), all of Fremont; two grandchildren, special friend Virginia Studt of Fremont.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Aug. 28 at First Lutheran Church with Rev. Charlie Axness officiating.
Visitation will be Aug. 27 from 2 to 8 p.m., with family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Moser Memorial Chapel, Fremont. On Aug. 28 from 9 to 11 a.m. there will be visitation at he the church.
Burial will be at Memorial cemetery in Fremont.
Memorials are suggested for First Lutheran Church.

Loren K. Anderson, August 25, 2008, age 91

Loren K. Anderson of Fremont died Aug. 25, 2008, in Fremont. He was born Nov. 26, 1916, in North Bend to Charles and Martha (Corn) Anderson. Loren was a 1934 graduate of North Bend High School.
Loren farmed until 1972 and then drove a school bus for 11 years.
He served as sexton, caretaker, maintenance, grave digger and board member of North Bend’s Woodland cemetery for many years.
On Sept. 20, 1945, Loren married Ruby L. Connerley in North Bend. She died March 26, 2003. Loren moved to Fremont in April 2003.
Loren is survived by daughters Linda (Bill) Hindmarsh of Fremont, Karen (Bill) Hubbard of Troy, Mont., four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
There will be a memorial service Aug. 30 at the Presbyterian Church Chapel in Fremont with Rev. Dr. William Lewis officiating. There will be no visitation, but friends may sign the register book on Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Moser Memorial in Fremont.
There will be a private burial at Woodland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials be given to the North Bend Library Building Fund. Obit dated 8/27/08

Joseph A. Buresh, August 23, 2008, age 74

Joseph A. Buresh of Columbus died Aug. 23, 2008, in Omaha. He was born Feb. 7, 1934, southwest of Morse Bluff to Joseph J. and Mary (Hlady) Buresh. The family moved to a farm northeast of North Bend when he was an infant. Joe attended District 10 and was a 1952 graduate of North Bend High School.
In 1952 he joined the Nebraska National Guard, serving until 1961.
On Nov. 15, 1955, Joe married Magdalene Hegemann at Holy Family Catholic Church in Lindsay. The couple farmed northwest of Rogers until 1991 when they moved to Columbus where Joe worked at Ebel Inc.
Joe was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church, EME; 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Council; the first Grand Knight of the St. Isidore Council 12086 and Hartman Post 84 American Legion.
He is survived by his wife Magdalene of Columbus, brother Francis (Marge) Buresh, sister Mary Ann Buresh, and sister-in-law Agnes Buresh, all of North Bend.
The funeral is Aug. 28 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Columbus with Rev. Joseph Miksch officiating. There will be a vigil Aug. 27 at 7 p.m. at St. Isidore with visitation Aug. 27 after 5 p.m. and Aug. 28 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
Internment will be at All Saints cemetery in Columbus with military honors by Hartman Post 84 Honor Guard. Obit dated 8/27/08

Valburga (Chudomelka) Pabian, August 17, 2008, age 84

Valburga A. Pabian died Aug. 17, 2008, at Birchwood Manor. Val was born June 21, 1924, to Paul and Magdalena (Arps) Chudomelka of rural Dodge. Val moved from Dodge to Fremont at the age of 14 and was a 1942 graduate of Fremont High School .
She married Frank Farmer on May 5, 1944. He died Dec. 7, 1947. Val married Victor C. Pabian on Jan. 23, 1951, at Cedar Hill Catholic Church and moved to Morse Bluff.In 1969 they moved to North Bend. He died Nov. 27, 1985.
Val worked at Hormel in Fremont for a number of years. She worked at Birchwood Manor for 34 years.
Val was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church and St. Anne’s Altar Society at North Bend and the American Legion Auxiliary of Post 340 of Morse Bluff.
She is survived by sons Mike (Pam) Farmer of Linwood, Donald (Marlene) Pabian of North Bend, Thomas (Jackie) Pabian of Berthold, N.D.; daughters Patricia (Denny) Houska of Kearney, Vicki (Tom) Foltz, Roz (Tom) Hamilton, both of North Bend, Laura Dressel of Creston, British Columbia, Canada; sisters Goldie (Norman) Holoubek of Sacramento, Calif., Agnes Russell of Yuma, Ariz., Magdalen Sixta of Fremont; 19 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren.
The funeral is at 10:30 a.m., Aug. 20 at St. Charles Catholic Church with Rev. Donald Cleary officiating. Vigil rosary will be at 7 p.m Aug. 19 at Moser Memorial Chapel, North Bend. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Cedar Hill Catholic Cemetery, southwest of Morse Bluff.
Memorials are designated for St. Charles Catholic Church, North Bend Library new building fund and the North Bend rescue squad.

Martha (Bartunek) Divis, August 16, 2008, age 81

Funeral services for Martha U. Divis were held Aug. 16, 2008, at
Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Abie with Rev. Ron Homes and Rev. Lee Jirovsky officiating. Burial will be at church cemetery.
Martha was born Oct. 21, 1926, in Abie to Frank and Rose(Stara)Bartunek. She graduated from Dwight Assumption High School. On Dec. 27, 1951, she married Thomas Divis at Sts Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Abie. She was a farm wife. At age 75 started a new phase of her life by working at St. Joseph’s Villa. She played the organ for Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church for over 50 years.
She died Aug. 13 at David Place in David City. She is survived by her husband Tom of Abie; children Alton (Marjorie) Divis of Abie, JoAnn (Larry) Hlavac of Bruno, Caroline (Tom) Forstrom of Lincoln, Doris (Doug) Redler and Lori Divis of David City; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister, Helen Koza of Omaha

Gary W. Garmong, August 3, 2008, age 61

Gary W. Garmong of Elkhorn died Aug. 3, 2008, at Arbor Manor in Fremont.
Gary was born March 13, 1947, in Omaha to Robert and Celestine Garmong.
From Aug. 14, 1967, to July 25, 1969, Gary served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War where he was assigned to the 1st Battalion 87th Infantry stationed at Baumholder, Germany. Following his service he worked for his uncles, Ray and Don Maly, doing roofing.
Gary is survived by his mother, Celestine (Sally) Timmons of North Bend; sister, Celeste Garmong of Omaha; brothers, Clyde (Joan) Garmong and Robert (Cindi) Garmong all of Omaha; and nephews and nieces.
A funeral mass was held Aug. 13 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church with Rev. Donald Cleary officiating. There was no visitation. Military honors were conducted by members of VFW Post #8223 and AmVets Post #20, both of North Bend, and American Legion Post #340 of Morse Bluff at the church following the Mass.
Burial will be held at Woodland cemetery at a later date. Moser Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to St. Charles Catholic Church or the North Bend/Morse Bluff Area Veterans’ Park. Obit dated 8/13/08
