U.S., Obituary Collection, 1930-Current

George Kirlin, 89
George E. Kirlin, 89, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 1998, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
Services were Monday at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mondamin, Iowa. Burial was in St. Bridget cemetery at Magnolia, Iowa.

George E. Kirlin was born Dec. 2, 1908, in Taylor Township in rural Modale, Iowa, to Frank A. and Mary Jane (Lynch) Kirlin. He attended Mill Elementary and St. Patrick ' s Catholic Elementary Schools in Missouri Valley, Iowa, and graduated from Modale High School in 1927. He started farming in the Modale area in 1927 and was active until his death. On Oct. 21, 1936, he married Angela L. Tamisiea at Missouri Valley.

Survivors are his children and their spouses, Helen and Pete Peterson, Golden, Mo.; Shirley VanDuyn, San Diego, Calif.; Terry and Lynne Kirlin, Omaha; Larry Kirlin, Omaha; Sheila and Tom Nacey, Houston, Tex.; Theresa and John Riviera, Superior, Colo.; Carol Gathye, Omaha; Cathy and Joe Kulus, Omaha; Pat and Marcia Kirlin, Omaha; JoAnn and Mike Kunkle, Omaha; Mike Kirlin, Modale; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, and one brother, Edward J. Kirlin, Blair.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Angela, in May 1993; his parents; an infant son, Daniel Vincent; one sister, Mary Frances Kirlin, and four brothers, John C. Kirlin, Dr. Laurence P. Kirlin, Edmond V. Kirlin and Hubert A. Kirlin.

Campbell - Aman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Robert "Bob; " Wichman, 72
Robert L. "Bob; " Wichman, 72, Blair, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, at Crowell Memorial Home.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Country Bible Church in Blair. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the Evergreen Home cemetery in Beatrice, Neb.

Robert L. "Bob; " Wichman was born April 1, 1925, in Beatrice to John and Emily (Arndt) Wichman. He attended school in Beatrice. He served in the United States Navy as an Aviation Electrician ' s Mate Third Class during World War II. He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for 30 years. He lived in Omaha; Long Beach, Calif. and Alma, Neb., prior to moving to Blair in 1993.

Survivors are his daughters, Emily Timm and fiancˇ, Terry Anderson, Blair; Lee LeCompte, Blair and Rebecca Schmitt, Fort Calhoun; five grandchildren, Candy JeTaime Maresh, Elizabeth Buckingham, Christina LeCompte, Betty Janssen, LeAnne Schmitt; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jane Shelley, Beatrice; Patsy Hupp, Yutan, Neb.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and 10 brothers and sisters.

Memorials may be given to Crowell Memorial Home or the Boy Scouts.

Eileen Bradbury, 77
Eileen M. Bradbury, 77, of Fremont, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 1998 at Arbor Manor in Fremont.
Services were Monday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fremont. Rev. John Whalen officiated. Burial was in Memorial cemetery at Fremont.

Eileen M.. Bradbury was born April 12, 1920, to Edward and Winifred (Towey) Pollard at Schuyler, Neb. She grew up at Schuyler and was a graduate of Schuyler High School. She lived at Hopper, Neb. until returning to Schuyler in 1949. She moved to Fremont in 1952. On Aug. 22, 1942, she married Raymond C. Bradbury at Hooper.

She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and the Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 200 Auxiliary in Fremont.

Survivors are her son, Ron Bradbury of Lincoln; her daughter, JoAnn (Mrs. Gary) Hilgenkamp of Arlington; her sister, Delores King of San Luis Obispo, Calif.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband on March 12, 1994; her parents: a brother, Matt Pollard and her step - mother, Emma Pollard.

Pallbearers were her grandchildren, Sherie Hilgenkamp, Rick Hilgenkamp, Wendy Hilgenkamp, Roy Lamb, Becky Lamb, Mark Knorr and Tracy Knorr.

Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer's Association.

Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont was in charge of arrangements.

Mildred Gasser
A memorial service was held Dec. 25, 1997 in San Luis Obispo, Calif., for Mildred Kundel Gasser, a long - time resident on Morro Bay, Calif. A private graveside service was held at Forest Lawn cemetery in Glendale, Calif. on Jan. 4, 1998.
Mildred Kundel Gasser was born in Omaha to George and Jenny Antill. Following her parents move to Blair, she attended the Blair Schools. She also attended and graduated from the Chas. Gaydou School of Business in Blair. She married Gustav H. Kundel. They owned and farmed the land that is Lakeland Estates. In 1937, they moved to the San Fernando Valley where her husband became a successful builder. After the death of Gustav, she later married Army Col. (retired) John Gasser.

She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Shaw of Los Osos, Calif.; a granddaughter, Terri Rosebraugh and her husband, Jim; a great-granddaughter, Jenni; a great-great-granddaughter, Erin; and sisters, Helen Munk and Georgia Matzen of Blair.

In addition to her husband, Gustav, she was preceded in death by her son, Robert, who was killed in World War II.

Dorothy Meyer, 73
Dorothy Sarah Meyer, 73, of Wisner, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 1998 at the Wisner Manor.
Services were Wednesday at Christ Lutheran Church in Wisner. Rev. Al Baglien officiated. Burial was in the Wisner Cemetery.

Dorothy Sarah. Meyer was born Aug. 16, 1924, at Pender, Neb., to Thomas and Elizabeth (Berner) Mayberry. She was baptized at the Presbyterian Church in Pender and was confirmed later at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Emerson, Neb. She attended school in Pender and graduated from Pender High School. On Dec. 30, 1949, she married Robert Meyer at Elk Point, S. D. After their marriage, she was a cafe owner in Pender before moving to Wisner in 1957. She then owned a cafe in Wisner for over 30 years. She later worked for nine years with her daughter at the Wisner Cleaners in Wisner.

She was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church in Wisner.

Survivors are her husband, Robert, Wisner; sons and daughters-in-law, Lonnie and Trudy Nilges of Blair and Barry and Roxanne Meyer of Wisner; a daughter and son-in-law, Tami and Jeff Rabe of Wisner; nine grandchildren, Brenda Stewart, Jeff Nilges, Kandi Sanger, Brandi Hass, Kiley Meyer, Kasey Meyer; Tara Rabe, Tasha Rabe and Tiffany Rabe; three great-grandchildren, Tarron Stewart, Kershaun Stewart and Kyan Hass.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Pallbearers were Jeff Rabe, Kiley Meyer, Hensley Stewart, Aaron Hass, Jeffery Nilges, Shawn Sanger and Dave Taylor.

Marjorie Christensen, 83
Marjorie Grace Christensen, 83, of Blair, died Friday, Jan. 16, 1998, at Bergan - Mercy Hospital in Omaha.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the Fort Calhoun Cemetery.

Marjorie Grace Christensen was born March 1, 1914, in rural Blair to Peter and Irene (Vaughan) Jansen. She received her elementary education at the Maney and Wranch Schools and graduated from Blair High School. After attending Wayne State College, she taught at the LaCrone and Sunnyside schools in rural Washington County. On March 21, 1937, she married Russell E. Christensen at Kennard. They farmed southwest of Fort Calhoun until their retirement in 1979, at which time they moved to Blair.

While on the farm, she was an active member of the Fort Calhoun Presbyterian Church. She co - organized the Better Homes Extension Club in her community in 1950. After moving to Blair, she became a member of First Lutheran Church and served as a volunteer for many years in the church office and at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home. She moved into Johansen manor in October 1997.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Russell and Susie Christensen, Blair, and Dean and Sylvia Christensen, Lincoln, Neb.; one daughter, Carol Cantey, Cerritos, Calif.; nine grandchildren, Russell Christensen, Rodney Christensen, Rolie Christensen, Jill Christensen, Chad Christensn, Sara Christensen, Ronda Van Derslice, Elizabeth Cantey and Mark Cantey; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Naomi Mathiesen, Blair; and one brother, Peter Jansen, Scottsdale, Ariz.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in August 1984; and one sister, Jessie Steward.

John Johnson, 65
John W. Johnson, also known as JW or Bill, died at Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha Friday, Jan. 9, 1998, after several years of declining health.
A memorial service will be held at the Congregational Church in Blencoe, Iowa, Saturday at 2 p.m.

John W.. Johnson was born May 5, 1932, in Onawa, Iowa. He lived and went to school in the Blencoe area. After high school, he attended Railroad School in Omaha to learn to be a telegraph and depot agent. In September 1952, he was drafted into the Army and served until 1954. After he left the Army, he started a career in sales and then construction. He married Maurine (Nickoleion) Frisk in 1951.

He is survived by his three children, Craig Johnson of Alameda, Calif.; Betheen McClure of Auburn, Neb.; and Bruce Johnson of Sioux City, Iowa; his father, Carl Johnson of Yucca Valley, Calif.; a brother, Richard Johnson of California; a brother, Tom Johnson; grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Patrick Quinlan, 79
Patrick Quinlan, 79, of rural Blair died at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha on Saturday, Jan. 17, 1998.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery.

Patrick. Quinlan was born on the family farm in rural Blair Dec. 12, 1918 to John and Catherine (Curran) Quinlan. He attended the Maney School and graduated from Blair High School. He lived and farmed on the family farm that his grandfather homesteaded.

Survivors are his sister, Edith (Mrs. Warren) Krubs, Salina, Kans.; and numerous nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Elizabeth (Mrs. Henry) Lammers and Mary (Mrs. Paul) Bausch.
