Leroy J. King, 76
Leroy J. King, 76, of Tekamah died Tuesday, June 23, 1998, at the Tekamah Health & Rehab Center.
Services were Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Tekamah. Rev. Judith Clark Wharton officiated. Burial was in the Tekamah Cemetery.

Leroy Joseph King was born April 9, 1922, in Herman to Joseph S. and Esther F. ( Moffitt ) King. He attended the Evergreen and Homestead Schools near Tekamah. On Dec. 22, 1952, he married Eva Petersen. They made their home in the Lake Quinnebaugh Township until 1959 when they moved to a home west of Tekamah. They had two daughters. Mrs. King died on Aug. 24, 1990. On July 9, 1993, he married Janet Stevens at the United Methodist Church in Tekamah. He farmed and was an Allis Chalmers dealer in Tekamah.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Tekamah.

He is survived by his wife, Janet of Tekamah; two daughters and sons - in - law, JoJen and Steve Shamburg of Tekamah and Victoria and Lon Kuhlmann of Herman; four grandchildren, Scott and Andrea Shamburg and Maggie and Rebecca Kuhlmann; a stepson, Scott Stevens of Omaha; one brother, Verlin "Bud; " King of Tekamah; five sisters, Doris Kjelgaard, Madeline Hardy and Joan Maxwell, all of Tekamah; Betty Buddecke of Grand Island and Mary Syverson of Homosassa, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Eva; a grandson, Steven Shamburg; and one brother, Kenneth "Doc; " King.

Donna Palmer was the organist and Carol Bacon was the vocalist.

Pallbearers were Gene Rollins, Arthur Reil, Ward Odell, Tom Marshall, Bob Shumake and Gerald Shumake.

Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church and the Tekamah Fire Department and Rescue Squad.

Ebba Rasmussen, 84
Ebba Rasmussen, 84, of Blair died Wednesday, June 24, 1998, at Crowell Memorial Home in Blair.
Services were Monday, June 29 at the First Lutheran Church in Blair. Rev. R. Joe Marek, Jr., and Rev. Michael Dismer officiated. Burial was in the Blair Cemetery.

Ebba Rasmussen was born Jan. 26, 1914, at Kennard to H. Victor and Laura C. ( Kuhr ) Rasmussen. She graduated from Blair High School in 1932. She worked for many years in the Nebraska Insurance Department with workmen's compensation. She moved back to Blair in the late 1940s. She worked at Nebraska - Iowa Supply, Fort Calhoun Stone and Dana College.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church and the Rebekah Circle.

She is survived by a brother and sister - in - law, Ray and Mary Ann Rasmussen of O'Neill; a niece, Karen Furman of Butler, Mo.; and two nephews, David of York and Mark of Lima, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorials may be directed to First Lutheran Church or Good Shepherd Home.

Richard E. Glinski, 72
Richard E. Glinski, 72, died Monday, July 27, 1998, at San Diego, Calif.
Memorial services will be Tuesday, Aug. 4, at the Salina Beach Presbyterian Church in Salina Beach, Calif. Burial will be at the Fort Rostcran National cemetery at Point Loma, Calif.

Survivors include his wife, the former Charlotte Rhoades of Blair, one daughter, one son, one grandson and a brother, all of California.

Richard E. Glinski was born in Los Angeles, Calif. and moved to the San Diego area where he was a plaster contractor until his retirement.

James C. Thompson, 93
James C. Thompson, 93, of Blair, died Monday, July 27, 1998, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.
Services were Thursday, July 30, at the Blair United Methodist Church. Rev. Nancy Flader and Rev. A.K. Saul officiated. Burial was in the Blair Cemetery.

James Claude Thompson was born May 20, 1905, in Millerboro to Fred and Carrie ( Byers ) Thompson. He graduated from the Winner High School in Winner, S.D. He received his bachelor of science degree from Nebraska Wesleyan and his master's degree from Colorado State College of Education. He began teaching in Pawnee City. He was a business teacher at the Blair High School and was honored for 39 years of service. He was principal from 1940 to 1955. He received the Distinguished Service Award from the Blair Schools in 1944. During the summers, he worked for the Nebraska Crop Improvement Association for 29 years.

He was a member and treasurer of the United Methodist Church and a member of the Methodist Men's Club. A lifetime member of the Blair Lions Club, he was treasurer for 37 years and was honored by the Lions Club International Foundation as a recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellow Award in 1994. He was a Marathon Duplicate and Party Bridge player. He was a member of the Blair Golf Course and club champion in 1940.

Survivors include a son and daughter - in - law, Terry and Sharon of Blair; grandchildren Paula and Mike Betzold of Highlands Ranch, Colo., and Steve and Julie Thompson of Dallas, Texas; great - grandson Joshua Thompson of Dallas; one sister, Marguerite Raitt of San Leandro, Calif., and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mae on July 24, 1998 and his parents.

Memorials are suggested to the Blair Community Schools Foundation for student scholarship.

Richard Carlson
Richard Carlson of Sacramento, Calif., died on Tuesday, July 21, 1998, after a long illness.
Richard Carlson, formerly of Blair, was in the plumbing business while he lived in the Blair area.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; son and daughter - in - law, Richard and April and their family; and daughter, Sandra, and family.

Gil G. Garner, 72
Gil G. Garner, 72, of Blair, died Saturday, July 25, 1998, at Methodist Hospital in Omaha.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 28, at First Baptist Church in Blair. Burial will be in the Blair Cemetery.

Gilfred G. Garner was born May 13, 1926, in Blair to Nicholas and Ruth ( Cradit ) Garner. His entire childhood was spent in Blair where he attended school. He entered business with his father in running the Blair Transfer. He was married to Janice Petersen and then on Sept. 17, 1960, he married Naomi Baker of Kennard in Fremont. He worked in the trucking business for the last 40 years. He retired from Consolidated Freightways in 1989.

Survivors include his wife, Naomi; six stepchildren and their spouses, Gary and Debbie Baker of Omaha; Bob and Linda Baker of Peru, Ill., Lewie and Bev Baker of Omaha, Randy and Sue Baker of Colfax, Iowa, Bev and Don Brase of Columbus and Cheryl and Derald Erickson of Arlington; 16 grandchildren, 13 great - grandchildren; one sister, Betty Wehrli of Blair; one nephew, two nieces, three great - nephews and two great - nieces.

Memorials may be directed to First Baptist Church or the Blair Rescue Squad.

Jorgine N. "Jennie" Graverholt, 95
Jorgine N. "Jennie" Graverholt, 95, of Stanwood, Wash., formerly of Blair, died Saturday, July 25, 1998, in Stanwood.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, July 31, at First Lutheran Church in Blair. Burial will be in the Blair Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Thursday, July 30, at Campbell - Aman Funeral Home in Blair.

Jorgine N. "Jennie" Nielsen was born Oct. 28, 1902, in Blair to Chris and Jorgine Nielsen, the youngest child of a large family. She spent most of her life in Washington County. When she was eight years old, the family moved to Denmark for two years but returned to Blair where they lived and owned a butcher shop and grocery store across the street from the old post office. Here she spent most of her time going to school and helping out at the butcher shop. In 1920, she married Carl Graverholt. They farmed in Washington County until 1975 when they moved to Blair because of Carl's failing health. They moved into their new home in 1975. She lived in Blair until May of 1987, when she moved to Stanwood, Wash., to be with her son, William, and his wife, Marjorie.

Survivors include her son, William, and wife, Marjorie; two grandchildren, James of Woodinville, Wash., and Joan Morgan; four great - grandchildren, Richard, Casandra, Rodney and Kirby, Jr., all of Washington State; and two great - great - grandchildren, Lindsay and Ginger.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl in April 1976; seven sisters, Amelia Hoier, Kristen Hoier, Marie Gutschow, Sophie Petersen, Anna Stricklett, Elizabeth Jorgensen, Minnie Nielsen and one brother, Chris Nielsen.
