Tamara J. Lynes
February 17, 1940 - October 14, 2011

Tamara Joyce Lynes, 71, died Friday, October 14, 2011 at Box Butte General Hospital in Alliance.

She was born February 17, 1940 in Julesburg, Colorado to Otho Elton and Doris Bethene (Morely) Hodges. She grew up on farm at Julesburg and was active in 4-H and various school activities including band and choir. She attended junior college in Sterling, CO for 2 years and became a bank teller in Julesburg.

She met Robert Larry Lynes through friends and they were married on December 22, 1962 in Julesburg. During their marriage and raising 3 children, she was very active as a bookkeeper, nursing assistant/med aide, senior center bus manager and working with hospice. They have lived in Alliance for 15 years and are members of the United Methodist Church. Her hobbies included gardening, canning, embroidery work for quilts and spending time with her grandchildren and family. Tamara was diagnosed with lung cancer in April 2011. Her medical treatments had some success as she said she was too stubborn to die. She lost her battle after contracting pneumonia. She is dearly loved by her husband, children and grandchildren and will be missed forever.

Tamara is survived by her husband, Robert Larry Lynes; her daughters, Connie (Tony) Drew of Alliance and Cindy Johnson of Amarillo, TX; her son, Vaughn Lynes of Alliance; and 2 grandchildren, Kiersten Johnson of Amarillo, TX and Noah Drew of Alliance.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Richard Allen Hodges.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 18 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Alliance with Rev. Dr. Charles Kathurima officiating. Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be given in care of the family at, 936 Platte Avenue, Alliance, Nebraska, 69301, or to the American Cancer Society.

Roland Sward
December 12, 1942 - September 25, 2011

Roland Duane Sward, 68, died September 23, 2011 at Rapid City Regional Hospital after an extended illness. He passed away peacefully to the hands of God with his brothers Norman and David at his side.

Roland was born in Alliance, Nebraska at St. Joseph’s Hospital to Carl LeRoy and Lucille Fern (Rider) Sward on December 12, 1942.

He lived in Alliance most of his life where he attended Emerson Elementary, Alliance Junior High and Alliance High School. He served a brief time in the U.S. Navy. Roland worked at various jobs in Alliance and lastly at Electric Hose & Rubber Co. before declining health would not allow him to work anymore.

He enjoyed such hobbies as fishing, hunting, photography and building and flying model airplanes. He was also an avid rock hound. He loved animals and had several dogs for companions.

The last few years of his life he resided at Hemingford Community Care Center where he received excellent care from the staff.

His survivors include his brothers, David, Norman and Stephen Sward and his family. He is also survived by his special friend and pet, Skippy.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be Friday, October 28 at 2:00 p.m. at the Nebraska Veterans cemetery at Alliance.

Darrell White Crane Walking
November 9, 1954 - October 6, 2011

Darrell White Crane Walking, 56, died Thursday, October 6, 2011 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.

He was born in Allen, South Dakota on November 9, 1954 to Isaac John and Christina (Black Bear) White Crane Walking. He has been an Alliance resident for 54 years and he had worked for 20 years for Nebraska Bean Elevator.

He is survived by his sisters, Evelyn (Ronald) Brave Hawk and Wilma White Crane Walking of Alliance, his brothers, Curtis White Crane Walking and Bryan White Crane Walking of Porcupine, SD. He is also survived by 7 nieces and 7 nephews, 34 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by parents, 2 brothers and 2 sisters.

Funeral services will be Thursday, October 13 at 2:00 p.m. at the Indian Mission Church of God in Alliance with Reverend Don Mink officiating. Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery. Traditional Lakota Services will be conducted by Wilson Coleman, Sr. A two night wake service will begin Tuesday, October 11 at 7:00 p.m. at the church.

William E. Sutton
March 29, 1920 - September 29, 2011

William Eugene Sutton, 91, died Thursday, September 29, 2011 at Highland Park Care Center in Alliance.

He was born March 29, 1920 in Alliance, Nebraska to Harry Eugene and Nellie Irene (Boone) Sutton. He received his education at Alliance and Curtis schools.

On June 24, 1939 he was united in marriage to Edna Mae Fisher at Scottsbluff. To this union 3 children, Penny, Harry and Connie were born. He was a lifetime resident and rancher in Garden and Grant Counties where he enjoyed ranching and tinkering in his shop. He raised Simmental cattle and later crossbred them on his ranch south of Ashby.

He was baptized in Hyannis on July 3, 1981 with his family, Harry, Bonnie, Cory and Holli.

Bill is survived by his children, Penny (Steve) Schilken of Lakewood, CO, Harry (Bonnie) Sutton of Ashby and Connie Sutton of Marquette, KS. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Cory Stitt, Holli Benkelman, Casey Sutton, Carrie Sutton, Cindy Green, Terry Schilken, Christopher Rogers and Destiny Vivanco, and 4 great-granddaughters. His sisters-in-laws, Marge Sutton, Mary Sutton and Jeri Ogborn also survive him.

He was preceded in death by his wife Edna, his parents, 4 brothers and 3 sisters.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, October 15, 2011 at 2:30 p.m. at the Bates-Gould Chapel with Pastors Jim Nichols and Joseph Carty officiating. A reception will be at the Alliance Seventh-day Adventist Church following the service. Inurnment will be in the Alliance cemetery at a later date.

Memorials may be given to the Seventh-day Adventist Church or the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, 6520 North Andrews Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33309-2130.

Casey Alexander Stricker
Casey Alexander Stricker, 9, died Saturday, September 24, 2011.

Casey was welcomed into this world on December 18, 2001 by his parents Wally and Nancy (Fowler) Stricker and his older brothers, Adam and Wyatt. From that time on, he worked his way into the hearts of everyone who knew him. He had a smile that could brighten even the worst of days. And a twinkle in his eyes that let you know that he was always up to something. He loved life on the farm and taking care of his animals. He always looked up to his dad and older brothers.

Casey loved to wrestle and was always excited for the Junior wrestling season to start. He enjoyed 4-H and loved making things to take to the county fair. He was always in a hurry to grow up. And he looked forward to being able to rodeo and join FFA, just like his brothers. He also wanted to be a farmer when he grew up, just like his dad and oldest brother. He always loved riding in the tractor and did whatever he could to help when something was broken. He was constantly tinkering with things, taking them apart and trying to figure out how they worked.

Casey is survived by his mom and dad and older brothers, his grandma, Rosie Stricker and grandpa, Byron Fowler. He is also survived by his special friend Marissa, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandpa, Walter Stricker and grandma, Babs Fowler.

Funeral services will be Friday, September 30 at 10:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Alliance with Rev. Dr. Charles Kathurima M. officiating. Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Bates-Gould Funeral Home in Alliance.

Memorials may be sent in care of the family at 1780 CR 66, Alliance, NE 69301 for a future memorial designation.

Fairlyn Baugh
January 5, 1945 - September 19, 2011

Fairlyn G. Baugh, 66, passed away Monday, September 19, 2011 at Regional West Medical Center at Scottsbluff.

She was born January 5, 1945, at St. Joseph’s Hospital at Alliance, Nebraska to Nathan and Ruth (Porter) Baugh.

She graduated from Alliance High School in 1963, where she had been in Pep Club, Y-Teen and Spanish Club.

She had worked at KCOW, Alco and Pamida. She went to business school at Denver, Colorado, and in 1992, earned an Associates degree in Social Work from Western Nebraska Community College.

She was a social worker for Scotts Bluff County.

She is survived by her mother; her brother, Randy Baugh of Alliance; cousins, Wayne (Dixie) Simpson and Dixie Howell of Alliance; and numerous other cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father, infant brother and grandparents.

A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Monday, September 26, 2011 at the Alliance Cemetery.
