U.S., Obituary Collection, 1930-Current

'Leo' Brennan

KEARNEY -- Charles "Leo" Brennan, 74, of Kearney, died Saturday, Dec. 18, 1999, at his home.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the St. James Catholic Church in Kearney. The Rev. Thomas Mullowney and the Rev. Dr. Ron Roemmich will officiate. Burial will be in the Kearney cemetery with military rites provided by the Kearney V.F.W. Post No. 759, Kearney American Legion Post No. 52 and the Kearney National Guard Unit.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8:30 p.m. with wake services at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary in Kearney. Visitation will continue prior to services Wednesday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the St. James Catholic Church, First United Methodist Church or Kearney Good Fellows.

Mr. Brennan was born Oct. 10, 1925, in Broken Bow to Charles and Anna (O'Malley) Brennan. He grew up and attended grade school in Broken Bow. He moved to Wood River where he graduated from high school in 1943.

He served in the Army from 1944 to 1946 and was a veteran of World War II. He received the Purple Heart and Oak Leaf Cluster.

He married Joyce Drown on Jan. 18, 1950, in Kearney. He owned and operated Building Movers in Kearney for 47 years until retiring in 1996.

He was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Kearney, the V.F.W. Post No. 759, American Legion Post No. 52, Kearney Elks Lodge No. 984, Kearney Eagles Lodge No. 2722, was a life member of Knights of Columbus Council No. 1728, the 40 & 8 and was active with the Kearney Good Fellows for many years.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Tom of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Bill of Kearney; a daughter, Mary Jo Hill of Lincoln; a sister, Margaret Doidge of Anaheim, Calif.; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.

Zenobia Stodde

Zenobia Stodde, 83, of Grand Island died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, at Park Place Nursing Home.

Services are pending with Higgins Funeral Home in Loup City.

Orville Bieck

HARVARD -- Orville K. Bieck, 72, of Harvard died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Omaha.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Trumbull Methodist Church with the Rev. Jeff Hale officiating. Burial will be in the Evangelical cemetery northwest of Harvard with graveside military rites. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and until the service time Tuesday at the Alberding-Wilson Funeral Home in Harvard.

Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.

Mr. Bieck was born on Feb. 7, 1928, near Giltner to Elmer and Faye (Miller) Bieck.

He married Marjorie Benke on March 6, 1955.

He farmed most of his life near Harvard and Phillips until 1969, then moved to Hastings for one year. He lived in Trumbull for 30 years until he retired. He had lived in Harvard the past year and a half.

He was employed in maintenance at the Lockland Country Club in Hastings, Interstate Holiday Inn and Industrial Irrigation in Hastings until his retirement.

He was president of the First Evangelical cemetery Board and a member of the Trumbull United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Harvard VFW.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Bryan of Trumbull; two daughters, Sherry Jarzynka of Hastings and Sally Elley of Hastings; eight grandchildren; and two sisters, Shirley Woodward of Harvard and Dorothy Nicholson of Lincoln.

He was preceded in death by twin sons, Kenneth and Lavern, and one granddaughter.

Allene Werner

ST. EDWARD -- Allene M. Werner, 83, of St. Edward died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at the Cloverlodge Care Center in St. Edward.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist-Presbyterian Church in St. Edward with the Revs. John O. Gradwohl and Edward Gill officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen cemetery in St. Edward. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Miller Levander Funeral Home in St. Edward.

Rodney Klosterman

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Rodney L. Klosterman, 45, of Sioux Falls, formerly of Grand Island, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at George Boom Funeral Home in Sioux Falls.

Mr. Klosterman was born on Feb. 12, 1955, to Lyle Dean and Pauline Mardell (DeGeest) Klosterman in Rapid City, S.D. He grew up in New Underwood, S.D., and graduated from high school there in 1973.

He married LuAnn Gustafson on Aug. 6, 1977, in Wyoming, Minn. The family lived in Rapid City for many years.

In 1995 they moved to Grand Island, where they lived until their recent move to Sioux Falls.

His hobbies included old cars, drag racing and motorcycles.

Survivors include his wife of Sioux Falls; a son, Nicholas, and a daughter, Brianne, both of Sioux Falls; his parents of Rapid City; and a brother, Ronald Klosterman of Butte, Mont.

Lloyd Friedricksen

Lloyd D. Friedricksen, 50, of Grand Island died Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, at home.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home Chapel in Grand Island. The Rev. Vernon Rice will officiate. Burial will be in Cameron cemetery in Hall County.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Mr. Friedricksen was born Nov. 4, 1950, in Palmer to Virgil and Betty (McClurkin) Friedricksen. He grew up and went to school in Giltner. He joined the Job Corps and worked as a firefighter.

He then worked on the harvesting crew for Wilmer Bieber. He served in the U.S. Air Force in 1969 receiving an honorable discharge.

He married Beverly Allan in 1973 in South Dakota. He later married Denise Schlieker on Feb. 20, 1988, in Grand Island. The couple lived in Grand Island.

He was employed as a farm hand for Leo Mettenbrink.

He attended Bethel Baptist Church. He enjoyed playing cards, farming, fishing, hunting and family life.

Survivors include his wife of Grand Island; two sons, Brandon and Jay, both of Grand Island; four daughters, Bobbie Mosqueda, Teresa Archer and Peggy Archer, all of Grand Island, and Lacie McGee and Tara Delgado, both of Garden City, Kans.; four grandchildren; seven sisters, Linda Long, Shirley Walford and Vera Morgan, all of Grand Island; Donna Friedricksen of Fullerton, Patty Poss and Mary Pearson, both of Scotia, and Shelia Kearns of Wauneta; and two brothers, Kenneth Friedricksen and Dave Friedricksen, both of Grand Island.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Peggy Wieck; and one brother, Thomas Friedricksen.
