U.S., Obituary Collection, 1930-Current

Lloyd Finnigsmier

Lloyd Finnigsmier, 77, of Grand Island died Friday, October 19, 2001, at his home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home Chapel in Grand Island with the Rev. Jim Keyser officiating.

There will be no visitation. Mr. Finnigsmier was cremated.

Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.

Mr. Finnigsmier was born on March 26, 1924, to John and Katie (Stechwek) Finnigsmier in Kenesaw. He grew up in Kenesaw on the family farm. He graduated from Kenesaw High School in 1942. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served during World War II.

He married Geraldine Dericks on Dec. 12, 1948, in Hastings after which they made their home in Kenesaw and Hastings. She preceded him in death.

He married Bonnie Sloggett on Dec. 13, 1980, at Grand Island. They made their home in Grand Island.

He was an active member of the American Legion, VFW and Platte Duetsche. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed being outdoors and drinking coffee with his friends at Tommy's Restaurant.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie of Grand Island; two sons, Ronnie Finnigsmier of Phoenix, Ariz., and Jim Sloggett of Grand Island; three daughters, Sherri Braun of Grand Island, Robin and Dan Hoffmeyer of Deshler and Becky and David Grafton of Grand Island; 17 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Bill Finngsmier of Santa Barbara, Calif.; and two sisters, Esther Jordan of Fillmore, Calif., and Erma Smith of Carpenteria, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his first wife.

Darlene Schwieger

NORTH LOUP -- Darlene "Doddy" Schwieger, 72, of North Loup died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, at the Skilled Care Unit of the St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in North Loup. Inurement will be in the North Loup Cemetery.

Mrs. Schwieger was cremated. There will be no visitation.

Memorials are suggested to the North Loup-Scotia Rescue Squad.

Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

'Pat' Vogeler

NORTH LOUP -- Gertrude "Pat" Vogeler, 83, of North Loup died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, at her home in North Loup.

Services are pending at the Ord Memorial Chapel.

Robert Fuller Jr.

75, Security/Safety Inspector

SALINA, KAN. -- Robert Fuller Jr., 75, of Salina, Kan., died on Sunday, Oct. 31, 2001, in Salina, Kan.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the First Christian Church in Salina, Kan. The Revs. Greg and Kim Rae will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Ryan Mortuary in Salina, Kan., and prior to the service Thursday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church in Salina, Kan.

Ryan Mortuary of Salina, Kan., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Fuller was born on Feb. 13, 1926, in Ellis, Kan., to Robert Fuller Sr., and Ola (Morrow) Fuller. He worked as a security and safety inspector for the P.I.E. Truck Line, until his retirement in 1988.

Survivors include his wife, Lillian Fuller of Salina, Kan.; three sons, Mike Fuller of Salina, Kan., Ron Fuller of Lincoln and Chuck Fuller of Grand Island; two daughters, Cheri Ladd of Merino, Colo., and Pam Doty of Grand Island; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Bette Dreikosen

Bette Dreikosen, 65, of Grand Island died on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001, at a hospital in Kansas City, Kan.

Services are pending with Kleine Funeral Home of Grand Island.

Bernadine Schmidt

Bernadine 'Bernie' B. Schmidt, 75, of Grand Island, died on Friday, Oct. 12, 2001, at the Riverside Lodge in Grand Island.

Services will at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home Chapel in Grand Island. The Rev. Lonnie Logan will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park cemetery in Grand Island.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the United Congregational Church or the donor's choice.

Mrs. Schmidt was born on Nov. 20, 1925, in Grand Island to Arnold Reher and Hattie Boltz. She grew up in Grand Island, graduating from Grand Island Senior High in 1943. After graduation she was employed at the Air Base, Northwestern Bell Telephone Company, United Way and New York Life.

She married Earl H. Schmidt on July 22, 1949. The couple then lived in Grand Island where she was a homemaker and a mother. She had been employed by Baasch Welding since 1978.

She was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church and a lifetime member of the Jefferson PTA.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Corliss Schmidt of Lincoln; one daughter, Lyn Schmidt of Spalding; three grandchildren; one brother, Daryl Reher of Colorado Springs and one sister, Eunice Hopkins of Grand Island.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

Alfons Boone

91, Farmer

ORD -- Alfons Boone, 91, of Ord died Friday, Oct. 12, 2001, at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. The Rev. Bob Rooney will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday with a rosary at 7 p.m. at the Ord Memorial Chapel.

Memorials are suggested to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church or Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.

Mr. Boone was born Nov. 29, 1909, to Emiel and Emilie (Pieters) Boone west of David City in Butler County. He attended Marietta Parochial School near David City. His family moved to Valley County in 1919. He then attended school at Midvalle and Vinton rural schools.

The family purchased another farm in 1929 six miles southwest of Ord. He lived and farmed there until May 2001 when he became a resident of the Valley County Nursing Home.

He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church.

Survivors include nieces and nephews and a brother-in-law, Anton Potrzeba.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Maurice and Joseph; and two sisters, Mary Mettenbrink and Margaret Potrzeba.
