U.S., Obituary Collection, 1930-Current

Gladys Brown

FULLERTON -- Gladys A. Brown, 94, of Fullerton died Friday, Aug. 27, 1999, at Central Nebraska Rehabilitation Center in Fullerton.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton. The Rev. Mary McQueen will officiate. Burial will be in the Fullerton Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to the service time Monday.

Mrs. Brown was born March 28, 1905, in Nance County to James and Samantha (Bone) Lee. She grew up and attended schools in Nance County.

She worked at J.M. McDonald's as a clerk and as an aide at the Fullerton Manor.

She enjoyed her family, growing flowers, travel and working in her church. She is a past member of Rebekah Lodge and Social Hour Club and a member of the United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Donna Reichel of Aurora, Colo.; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ira and George; and two sisters, Sadie Cundiff and Ethel Shivley.

Maude Butcher

GREELEY -- Maude M. Butcher, 91, of Greeley died Thursday, Aug. 26, 1999, at the Howard County Community Hospital in St. Paul.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Greeley United Methodist Church. The Rev. Cynthia Altstadt will officiate. Burial will be in the Greeley City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time Monday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the Greeley Care Home.

T. J. Finn and Sons Funeral Home of Greeley is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Butcher was born Sept. 1, 1907, to George and Sarah (Weiser) McIntyre in Kansas. She was raised in Greeley and attended Greeley Public Schools. She continued her education at Grand Island Business School. She worked in the Greeley County Court House and as an office clerk for the A.S.C.S. office in Greeley until her retirement.

She was a member of the Greeley United Methodist Church and she enjoyed quilting and sewing.

Survivors include one son, Milton of Bellevue; one daughter, A. Jane Rathgeber of Suguin, Texas; three sisters, Grace Roberts of Denver, Ethel Fell of Yountville, Calif. and Hazel Conley of Acampo, Calif.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her three brothers Hugh, John and Francis.

James Main

FULLERTON -- James E. Main, 67, of Fullerton died Saturday, Aug. 28, 1999, at the long term care at Litzenberg Hospital in Central City.

Services are pending at Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton.

More information will be provided at a later date.

Dorothy Solt

SARGENT -- Dorothy V. Solt, 88, of Sargent died Thursday, Aug. 26, 1999, at the Sargent Nursing Rehab Center.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Rhoad Funeral Chapel in Sargent. The Rev. Mark Crist will officiate. Burial will be in West Union cemetery west of Sargent.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the Sargent United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Solt was born June 28, 1911, to Earl A. and Sarah (Abernethy) Coslor in the West Union community, west of Sargent. She attended the West Union school and graduated from the Sargent High School in 1930. She worked at Semler Store in Sargent and later in Lincoln.

She later returned to Sargent and kept house for her parents. She also worked at the Sargent Nursing Home.

She married Paul Solt on Feb. 28, 1956, in Greeley, Colo. Mr. Solt died in February 1983. She had lived in Sargent until her health failed and entered the Sargent Rehab Center in October 1998.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Sargent and belonged to the United Methodist Women and the church circle. She was a past member of the Order of Eastern Star, the Does and the Rebekah Lodge.

Survivors include one brother, Rex Coslor of Sedro Woolley, Wash.

Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Florence Coslor and Elsie Metcalf and two brothers, Gerald Coslor and Donald Coslor.

Billy Wiseman

FREMONT -- Billy D. Wiseman, 63, of Fremont died Wednesday, Aug. 25, 1999, at the VA Medical Center in Grand Island.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fremont. The Rev. Owen Korte will officiate. Burial will be in the Fort McPherson National cemetery at Maxwell with military graveside services conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2.

There will be no visitation.

Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Wiseman was born Aug. 28, 1935, in Oconto to Buckner and Hazel (Weaver) Wiseman. He grew up at Oconto and graduated from Oconto High School. He attended Kearney State College for one year.

He served in the U.S. Army from Jan. 24, 1955, to April 30, 1975, and was a staff sergeant. He served during the Vietnam War and was also stationed in Germany. After his retirement from the military, he worked part time at the former Hinky Dinky Grocery Store in Fremont and later at Hy Vee until retiring in April 1999.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fremont and was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous since 1982.

Survivors include three sisters, Dorothy VanArsdol of Charlotte, N.C., Maxine Wallace of Ord and Doris DeVoe of Lake City, Tenn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Felix and John.

Della Fowle

Della Mary Fowle, 83, of Grand Island, formerly of Fremont, died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2000, at Riverside Lodge.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Fremont Alliance Church. The Revs. Curtis Holzworth and Phil Ronzheimer will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge cemetery in Fremont.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Mrs. Fowle was born on June 6, 1917, in Hooper to Winfield and Cora (Bader) Bishop. She grew up and was educated in Hooper.

She married George Fowle on Nov. 13, 1935. They lived in Fremont, where she worked for Hammond Stephens, Farm Journal and the Mead Ordnance Plant. The couple moved to Grand Island in May 1996 to be closer to family. She lived in her own home until recently, when they moved to Riverside Lodge.

She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, cooking and church ministry at the Fremont Alliance Church, where she was a member for 50 years.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, George Ronald Fowle of Peoria, Ill., and Larry Winfield Fowle of Grand Island; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and one sister, Dorothy Menke of Blair.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Vera Long and Ethel Renninger.

Susana Grijalva

Susana A. Grijalva, 55, of 2314 W. George No. 4, died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2000, at her home.

Services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Cathedral. The Rev. Jose Chavez will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.

Curran Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Mrs. Grijalva was born June 27, 1945, at Ensenada, Mexico, to Abelardo and Ernestina (Altamirano) Grijalva. She grew up and received her education in Mexico.

She moved to Los Angeles in June 1980. She moved to Fresno, Calif., in August 1986 and was employed as a housekeeper for Beverly View Convalescent Home before moving to Grand Island in September 1998.

She babysat her grandchildren until ill health forced her to retire.

She was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral.

Survivors include three sons, Rene Castaneda of San Diego, Ernesto Castaneda of Mexico and Jorge Castaneda of Fresno, Calif.; three daughters, Mary (Mrs. Manuel) Peinado, Gabrielle Castaneda and Alexandra Castaneda, all of Grand Island; 10 grandchildren; her mother, of Hesperia, Calif.; four brothers, Hector Grijalva of Los Angeles, Francisco J. Grijalva and Jose A. Guevara of Mexico and Sergio Guevara of Hesperia, Calif.; and five sisters, Arcelia Grijalva of Mexico, Imelda Guevara of Los Angeles, Leticia (Mrs. Jose Pedro) Benitez of Hesperia, Calif. and Maria (Mrs. Luis) Garcia and Evangelina Guevara of Fresno, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her father, Abelardo Grijalva Bermudez.
