Philip Daly

DOVER Philip Joseph Daly, 76, formerly of 20 Morningside Drive, died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001, at Riverside Rest Home after a period of failing health.

Born July 15, 1925, in Bayonne, N.J., he was the son of Arthur P. and Lillian (Mason) Daly.

A veteran, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, Korea and Vietnam, retiring in 1970 after 30 years of service.

He became a resident of Dover in 1970 and was employed as custodian with the Newmarket School Department for four years.

He enjoyed crossword puzzles and enjoyed walking his dog.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, June Helen (Bond) Daly of Dover; a son, Philip J. Daly Jr. of Dover; a daughter, June H. McCullough of Pensacola, Fla.; two sisters, Elizabeth Broughton of Denver, N.C., and Marion Whalen of Staten Island, N.Y.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a sister, Rose Boyle.

There will be no services. Those who wish may make donations in his memory to the charity of their choice.

Arrangements under the direction of Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave., and Oyster River Crematory, Barrington.

Susan Dumont

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Susan M. Dumont, 38, of 1207 Hoover Drive, died Saturday Dec. 8, 2001, in Menlo Park after a very brief illness.

Susan was born in Rochester, N.H. on Dec. 19, 1962, the daughter of Norbert "Nobby" and Jeannette (Gagnon) Dumont. She was raised in Somersworth graduating from Somersworth High School, Class of 1981. She went on to college graduating in 1985 from The University of New Hampshire with a bachelor of science degree in computer science. She spent her entire career in the computer field working first in Portsmouth, N.H. with Data General then on to Compugraphics in Massachusetts. She moved to California in 1986 where she started a career with Apple Computer that lasted for over 13 years.

The Adobe Corporation hired her over four years ago as a software engineering manager.

Susan enjoyed hiking, dancing, music and was very adventurous. She loved people, enjoyed life to the fullest. She was very involved in many Diabetes and Transplant Fundraisers, such as dancathons and walkathons, which she actively participated in. Sue leaves her friends and family with many wonderful and cherished memories.

Family members include her parents of Somersworth; two brothers, Ronald and his wife, Sherry Dumont, of Menlo Park, Calif. and Russell and his wife, Debbie Dumont of Lebanon, Maine; two sisters, Diane and her husband, Jim Dupuis, of Barrington, N.H. and Therese "Terri" and her husband, Kim Liesinger, of Hartford, S.D.; nieces, Cara and Rachel Liesinger of Hartford S.D.; nephews, Nick and Kyle Dumont of Lebanon, Maine; and several loving aunts uncles and cousins.

Friends may call at Bernier Funeral Home, 49 South Street Somersworth, N.H. on Friday from 2 to 6 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Martin Catholic Church, W. High Street at Maple Street Ext. with the Rev. Aaron Pfaff, pastor, as celebrant.

Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Somersworth. Those who wish may make memorial contributions in her name to The Joslin Diabetes Center c/o of Development Office 1 Joslin Place, Boston, MA 02215.

Maurice Kalway

DOVER - Maurice E. Kalway, 74, of 42 Fifth St., died Monday Dec. 10, 2001, at his home after a long period of failing health.

Born in Skowhegan, Maine, on March 2, 1927, the son of Alphonso and Amelia (King) Kalway. He was raised and attended schools in Belfast, Maine.

He was a Veteran of World War II having served in the U. S. Navy. He has been a resident of Dover for the past 52 years and was formerly employed in the local woolen mills and shoe shops. He also had worked at the Simplex Wire & Cable Co. of Newington and Ross Furniture Co. of Dover for more than 25 years.

Mr. Kalway was a retired member of the Dover Police Department having served the City of Dover from 1960 to 1974.

He was a member of the New Hampshire Police Association and the Dover Lodge of Elks. He had a keen interest in automobiles and a special fondness for animals.

He was a communicant of St. Charles Church.

Members of his family include his loving wife of 56 years, Doris (LaBranche) Kalway of Dover; four sons and their wives, Ronald and Susan Kalway of Strafford, Eugene and Jean Kalway of Stratham, David and Ann Kalway of Dover, Richard and Jacqueline Kalway of Barrington; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Albertina Hartford of Belfast, Maine, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, a sister, Amelia Grover and a brother, Albert Newcomb, predeceased him.

Relatives and friends are invited to call Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Charles Church, 577 Central Ave., with the Rev. Paul Gregoire as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Charles Cemetery.

Those who wish are invited to make memorials in his name to either the Cocheco Valley Humane Society, 262 County Farm Rd., Dover, NH 03820 or the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital Home Care & Hospice, 113 New Rochester Rd., Suite 4, Dover, NH 03820-2171.

Bertha Mann

DOVER - Bertha A. Mann, 91, formerly of 307 Riverview Apartments, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001, at Dover Rehabilitation & Living Center after a period of failing health.

Born Aug. 28, 1910, in Concord, she was the daughter of George and Elizabeth (Angwin) Angwin.

She was a graduate of Concord High School and the University of New Hampshire.

She was employed as a laboratory technician at the University of New Hampshire, retiring in 1971.

She was a member of the Grange, New Hampshire Extension Service and Senior Citizens of Dover.

She is survived by two sons, Guy W. Mann Jr. of Auburn, N.Y., and Donn Mann of Lee; one daughter, Jane M. Lindsay of York Beach, Maine; a sister, Constance Webber of Concord; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Guy W. Mann, who died in 1994; a brother, Paul H. Angwin; and a sister, Dorothy LaClair.

Friends and relatives may call Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Purdy Memorial Chapel, 2 Concord Road, Rte 4, Lee. Funeral services will be held at the Chapel at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Sharon Tinkham.

Burial will take place in Lee Hill Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Purdy Memorial Chapel, Lee, and Oyster River Crematory, Barrington.

Gene Philbrick

SOMERSWORTH - Gene C. Philbrick, 79, of Colonial Village in Somersworth, formerly a long-time resident of Kittery, Maine, died Monday, Dec. 10, 2001, at Rochester Manor in Rochester.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home in Kittery, Maine, when completed.

Winnifred Wyndham

ROCHESTER - Winnifred P. Wyndham, 84, of 7 South Blueberry Lane, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001, at Frisbie Memorial Hospital.

She was born March 5, 1917, in Lisbon Falls, Maine, a daughter of Carl and Mathilda (Stein) Goddard.

She was a graduate of Lisbon High School. She was a 1999 charter member of the World War II Memorial Program.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

She was predeceased by her husband, Arnold Wyndham, in 1994; two sons, Charles A. Wyndham and Jon Wyndham; two brothers, Norton Goddard and Keith Goddard; and her sister, Lois Glasford.

She is survived by her two daughters, Jeana Wyndham of Eliot, Maine, and Carlene Wyndham of Austin, Texas; three grandchildren, Lynda Clayton of Portland, Maine, David Wyndham of Brewster, Mass., and Lorri Wyndham of Texas; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001, in the chapel of the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., Rochester.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the World War II Memorial, P.O. Box 96766, Washington, DC 20090-6766.

Darlene Canniff
SANBORNVILLE - Darlene Joy Canniff, 48, of Meadow Street in Sanbornville, formerly of Melvin Village, died on Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, at Catholic Medical Center in Manchester, after a lengthy illness.

Born Dec. 17, 1955, in Sanford, Maine, she was the beloved daughter of Arthur L. and Beatrice N. (Furbish) Libby. Raised in Wolfeboro, she was a graduate of Kingswood High School, Class of 1974. She resided in Melvin Village for 25 years, moving to Sanbornville recently.

A homemaker, she enjoyed doing handicrafts, painting, enjoyed gardening and especially loved dogs and cats.

Survivors include her parents, Arthur L. and Beatrice N. Libby of Wakefield; two sons, Jon P. and his wife, Donna Barton, of Wakefield, Justin A. Canniff of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a brother, Edward E. Libby of Weirsdale, Fla.; two sisters, Rosalyn Shackford of Union and Sharon Taliaferro of Sanbornville; two aunts, Cody Williams of Canaan, Maine and Irene Beals of Sanford; also many cousins, nieces and nephews.

There are no calling hours or service planned at this time, a memorial service will be planned for a later date. The family would like to express a special thank you to the Melvin Village Community Church and the Wolfeboro VNA for all their assistance.

If desired, memorial donations may be made in her memory to the Lakes Region Humane Society, Ledge Hill Road, Tuftonboro, NH 03864.

Stephen Capodestria

ROCHESTER - Stephen Capodestria, 82, died on Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004, at Frisbee Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

Born Dec. 27, 1921, in Rochester, he was the son of Magdalen (Komes) and Dennis Capodestria. A lifelong resident of Rochester, he was the sole proprietor of Atlantic TV. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Rochester and was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.

He is survived by three children, Carol Brown of Rochester, Dennis Capodestria of Plymouth, Cynthia Capodestria of Sanbornton; four grandchildren, three great-granddaughters; a stepson, David Nicholson of Alexandria; and four siblings, Helen, Tina, Harry, and Nick Capodestria of Rochester.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 4 at 5 p.m. at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, in Rochester with the Rev. Behrma, officiating. There are no calling hours, friends are welcome to the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rochester Seventh Day Adventist Church, 16 Cushing Blvd. Rochester, NH 03867, phone 331-1177.

Ethel Fitzgerald

DOVER - Ethel M. Fitzgerald, 101, passed away peacefully at the Riverside Rest Home on Saturday Nov. 20, 2004.

Born in Stratham on July 22, 1903, she was the daughter of Elliott and Cora (Chapman) Cooper and was a lifelong resident of the area.

She was the widow of Howard Fitzgerald, who died in 1971. Survivors include several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Graveside services will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Stratham on Friday Dec. 3 at 10 a.m. Friends invited.

Georganne Hanson

KITTERY, Maine - Georganne N. Hanson, 91, of Kittery, Maine, died Nov. 27, 2004, at the York Hospital York, Maine.

She was born in Van Buren, Maine, on Dec. 25, 1912, the daughter of Florent and Zitee Cyr.

She was predeceased by her husband, Linwood Hanson, who died in 1993.

She was employed for 20 years as a head housekeeper at Howard Johnson’s at the Portsmouth Traffic Circle.

She lived in Kittery and Portsmouth her whole life.

She is survived by daughters, Brenda M. Gauvey and Judith E. Babine, both of Orlando, Fla.; a brother, Gordon and a sister, Yvonne; grandchildren, Lisa A. Hughes, Wendy Pevehouse, Michael Babine, Jimmy Babine and Gene W. Hughes III; five great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at noon on Thursday, Dec. 2 at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Lawrence, Mass.

Arrangements are entrusted to The J. S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, Kittery, Maine.

Darlene Hendrickson

DOVER - Darlene A. Hendrickson, 68, loving mother and grandmother, of Union Drive, died Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, at the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital following a period of failing health.

She was born in Appleton, Wis., Feb. 6, 1936, the daughter of Harvey and Mildred (Kolpack) Helms.

She was a member of the First Parish Congregational Church in Dover, where she had been active in the senior choir and served on the Admission and Action Committee.

She was also a member of her neighborhood community group.

Members of her family include her daughters, Beth (Mrs. Jim) Setear of Dover, Kathryn (Mrs. Daniel) McWhirk of Nottingham and Heidi (Mrs. Gary) Black of Sabattus, Maine; her beloved grandchildren, Caitlin, Dillon, Ethan and Madeline Setear, Matthew and Tyler McWhirk and Caleb and Erin Black; her brother, Rod Helms of Texas; her sister, Cherie Covill of Georgia and her good friend and neighbor, Bob Carroll.

She will be remembered by her family and friends for her kindness, her sense of humor, and her willingness to help others.

She was an avid sports fan, especially fond of the Red Sox, the Patriots, and NASCAR.

She loved living in New Hampshire where she could enjoy the ocean, mountains and lakes with her family.

There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Dec. 4 at 1 p.m. at the First Parish Congregational Church, Central Ave., Dover, with the Rev. Dr. David L. Slater, pastor, officiating.

Family flowers only, please. Memorials may be made in Darlene’s memory to either the Cocheco Valley Humane Society, 262 County Farm Rd., Dover, NH 03820 or to Wentworth Homecare & Hospice, 113 New Rochester Road, Suite 4, Dover, NH 03820.

Thelma Jones

ROCHESTER - Thelma R. Jones, 86, of Rochester Street, Berwick, Maine, died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004, at Rochester Manor.

She was born in North Lebanon, Maine on Jan. 5, 1918, a daughter of Wilber and Vena Farnum. She attended Berwick area schools and graduated from Berwick High School. She later attended nursing school and worked as a nurse at Goodall Hospital in Sanford.

She is predeceased by her husband, James "Casey" Jones Sr., and two brothers, Wilber Farnum and John Jones.

Surviving are two sons, James Jones Jr. of Berwick and Russell Jones of Hamburg, N.Y.; two daughters, Carol Ann Jones of Wilton and Jane Jones of Berwick; a brother, Bobbie Jones of Waterboro; three sisters, Maxine Frappiere of Chicopee Falls, Mass., Marion Eck of Pennsylvania, and Evelyn Monihan of Tucson, Ariz.

The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, at the Laing-Bibber Funeral Chapel, 36 Rochester St., Berwick. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Martha B. Webber Breast Center, c/o Franklin Memorial Hospital, 111 Franklin Health Commons, Farmington, ME 04938.
