Elizabeth "Lilly" Breen

Mrs. Breen, 95, of Red Bank died Feb. 4 in Red Bank. Born in County Downe, Ireland, she resided in Staten Island, N.Y., prior to moving to Red Bank 20 years ago. Mrs. Breen was a homemaker. Prior to that, she was employed at the U.S. Trust Co., New York City. She was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank, where she was a member of the Rosary Altar Society. She was a member of the Navesink House Garden Club. Mrs. Breen was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, John J. Breen. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, John J. and Vivian Breen of Middletown; a daughter and son-in-law, Claudette and John Frangos of Calgary, Canada; and two grandsons. Arrangements were by John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater New Jersey Chapter, 400 Morris Ave., Suite 251, Denville 07834-1365.

Filomena Rapolla

Mrs. Rapolla, 81, of Eatontown died May 1 in Point Pleasant. She resided in Red Bank prior to moving to Eatontown 52 years ago. She enjoyed time with her family. Mrs. Rapolla was a communicant of St. Dorothea’s Roman Catholic Church, Eatontown. She was a past and charter member of the Elks Auxiliary, Eatontown, and member and finance secretary of the Eatontown Woman’s Club. She was predeceased by her husband, Angelo Rapolla, in 1981; and a brother, Frank Juliano. Mrs. Rapolla is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Anthony and Eleanor Rapolla of Toms River, and Michael and Sherry Rapolla of Tinton Falls; a brother, Joseph Juliano of Cape Coral, Fla.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Dorothea’s Church. Burial was at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. The Braun Funeral Home, Eatontown, was in charge of arrangements.

Roberta Inez Brown Ramos

Mrs. Ramos, 73, of Middletown died April 26 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Goode, Va., she resided in Wayne prior to moving to Middletown 40 years ago. She was a nursing assistant at Bayshore Health Care Center, Holmdel, for 45 years, retiring in 1996. She enjoyed time with her family. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Robert B. Ramos; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Michele and Reuben Hairston of Succasunna, Susan Ramos-Herrera and Maria Ramos, both Freehold, and Tracy Ramos Royster and Allan Royster of Middletown; two sons and one daughter-in-law, George and Pilar Ramos-Curvy of Red Bank, and Robert M. Ramos of Middletown; a sister, Harriet Simmons of Wayne; and six grandchildren. A memorial service was held at Second Baptist Church, Keyport. Arrangements were by John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. Memorial donations may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 281 Route 79, Marlboro 07746.

Ronald H. DeMaria

Mr. DeMaria, 64, of West Long Branch, died April 22, at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York City. Born in Newark, he had resided in West Long Branch since 1979. He was a partner at the law firm of Genova, Burns, and Vernola, Livingston, and specialized in labor and employment law for more than 35 years. He was a communicant of Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Long Branch. His professional achievements include serving as editor-in-chief of the Seton Hall Law Journal, ex-president of the school’s alumni association, and adjunct professor at Rutgers Law School. He was also recognized by New Jersey Monthly magazine as one of the outstanding labor and employment lawyers in New Jersey. Mr. DeMaria was predeceased by his father, Louis DeMaria. He is survived by his wife, Dolores Colannino DeMaria; a son, Ronald Anthony DeMaria of Tinton Falls; a daughter, Alyssa DeMaria of Davenport, Fla.; his mother, Florence Zottoli DeMaria of Brick; and a brother, Louis DeMaria of Metuchen. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at Holy Trinity Church. Entombment was at Woodbine Mausoleum, Oceanport. The Damiano Funeral Home, Long Branch, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to The Michael T. Glass Glioblastoma Research Foundation, P.O. Box 2020, New York, NY 10159.

Helen A. Schlosser

Mrs. Schlosser, 87, of Middletown died March 18. Born in Newark, she resided in Red Bank prior to moving to Middletown several years ago. She was a receptionist at United Teletech, Tinton Falls, before her retirement. Prior to that, she was secretary to the president at Gray and Roger Advertising Agency, Newark, and secretary to the commissioner of the Department of Parks and Public Property in Irvington. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church at Red Bank–Tower Hill. Mrs. Schlosser was predeceased by her husband, Irwin Schlosser, in 1985. She is survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Interment was at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown. The John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 2550 Route 1, North Brunswick 08902; or First Presbyterian Church at Red Bank–Tower Hill, 255 Harding Road, Red Bank 07701.

Pietro Russo

Mr. Russo, 85, of Holmdel died March 6 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Bagnoli Irpino, Italy, he had resided in Jersey City before moving to Holmdel seven years ago. He was a butcher for Tuscany Co., Union City, where he had worked for 25 years before retiring. Mr. Russo was predeceased by a daughter, Grace Chieffo. Surviving are his wife, Gelsomina Chieffo Russo; two daughters and sons-in-law, Catherine and Charles Stean of Red Bank, and Pierina and John Gazonas of Florida; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. A funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown, followed by entombment at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. The John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown, was in charge of arrangements.

Joseph T. Vanni

Mr. Vanni, 84, of South Amboy died March 1 in Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy division. Prior to his retirement in 1979, he was employed for 33 years as supervisor and inventory management specialist at Fort Monmouth. Surviving are his wife, Marie Penta Vanni; a son, Thomas Vanni of South Amboy; a daughter, Lorraine Easton of Bridgewater; a brother, Francis Vanni, and two sisters, Mary Vanni and Anna Vanni, all of South Amboy; a granddaughter; two step-grand­children; and many nieces and nephews. A Mass was offered at St. Mary’s Church, South Amboy. Entombment was in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Church.

Jean Rose McCloskey

Mrs. McCloskey, 68, of Red Bank died March 22 at Meridian Nursing and Rehabilitation, Red Bank. She resided in Highlands prior to moving to Red Bank three years ago. Mrs. McCloskey was predeceased by a brother, Stanley Wojdylak. She is survived by a son, Richard C. McCloskey Jr. of Asbury Park; and three brothers, Mark Davis of New York City, and George Wojdylak and John Wojdylak, of Clovis, Calif. A memorial service will be held at a later date; the John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank, is in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to The Riverview Foundation/New Building Fund at Meridian, 1 Riverview Plaza, Red Bank 07701.

Olga Schwenker Doremus

Mrs. Doremus, of Fair Haven, died March 16 at Meridian Rehabilitation Center, Red Bank. She was the retired owner of Superior Color Co., New York City. Prior to that, she was a solo ballerina with the Metropolitan Ballet, New York City. She was a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church at Red Bank–Tower Hill, where she was also active in new-member classes and ministered to shut-ins. She was a member of the Vassa Society. Mrs. Doremus was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Percy Doremus, in 1956. She is survived by six nephews. Interment was at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown. The John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank, was in charge of arrangements.

John M. Weber

Mr. Weber, 74, of Middletown died June 13 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Newark, he resided in Middletown the past 45 years. He was a lawyer at Antonio and Flynn P.C. before his retirement. He also worked at several other law firms. He was active in the Middletown Democratic Party and on the Middletown Township Planning Board. Mr. Weber is survived by his wife of 51 years, Kathleen Weber; three daughters and one son-in-law, Mary Kay Weber of Shrewsbury, Diane Black of Colts Neck, and Nancy and Michael Koren of Freehold; a sister, Lesley Broderick of West Palm, Fla.; and six grandchildren. Arrangements were by John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown.

George Dominic Castry

Mr. Castry, 78, of Red Bank died June 14 at home. Born in the Bronx, N.Y., he resided in Staten Island, N.Y., and Charlotte, N.C., prior to moving to Red Bank seven years ago. He was a computer programmer at Royal Insurance, Charlotte, N.C., retiring 15 years ago. He served with the U.S. Marines during World War II, and received the Purple Heart in the Battle of Iwo Jima. He was a communicant of St. James Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree, Charlotte. He enjoyed bingo, the Yankees, bowling, and big band music. He was predeceased by a sister, Rose Nasso in 1996. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Madeline Manzione Castry; a daughter and son-in-law, Debra and William Murphy of the River Plaza section of Middletown; a sister, Rita Castry of Amsterdam, N.Y.; and two grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. James Church. Interment was at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown. Arrangements were by John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 801 Broad St., Shrewsbury 07702.
