EDWARD F. ROGERS, 88, Middletown died Feb. 25 at home. He was a retired pharmaceutical researcher for Merck and Company for 35 years. During his tenure, he was awarded many patents, most notably for the development of the antibiotic ampercillium, to prevent coccidiosis in feed corn. In opposition of the Vietnam War, he became a member of the Shrewsbury Friends Meeting (Quaker). He was a trustee and treasurer of the Monmouth Center for World Religions and Ethical Thought. He helped establish Lunch Break, Red Bank, in the early 1980s, in response to the need for a local agency to feed the hungry. His civic activities included Shore Citizens for Better Housing, which worked to break down segregated housing practices in Monmouth County; the Middletown Civic Association, which he co-founded; and secretary of the N.J. American Civil Liberties Union. He also served on the Monmouth County Board of Social Services’ CEAS committee which allocated low-cost housing funds and helped establish the first Monmouth County shelter for the homeless. His activities included gardening, Mets baseball, poker and checkers. He was predeceased by his first wife, Ann Fleming. He is survived by his wife, Bettie Pena Rogers of Middletown; five sons, Peter, David, Sam, Joel and Ben Rogers, three stepchildren; 12 grandchildren; and six step-grandchildren. A memorial service will be April 20 at 2 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Meeting House, Lincroft section of Middletown.

JULIA M. CHURNEY, 91, of Middletown died March 7 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Jersey City, she lived there and in Bayonne prior to moving to Middletown six years ago. She was a homemaker. She was predeceased by her husband, Walter W. Churney in 1998. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, William N. and Henriette Churney of Rumson, and Edward J. and Joyce Churney of Holmdel; her brother, Frederick Seeber of Manahawkin; her sister, Bertha Byrnes of Toms River; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Catharine’s Roman Catholic Church, Holmdel. Interment was at Holy Name Cemetery, Jersey City.

FRANCES T. "JUDIE" BRUSH FEIGENWINTER, 79, of Spotswood, formerly of Keyport, died Feb. 24 in Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. She was employed as a manager with Genova Associates at the Marlboro Airport and as an X-ray technician and office manager for 40 years with Leonard Genova, M.D., Middletown and Red Bank. She was predeceased by her first husband, Robert Feigenwinter, and by her second husband, Richard Barlow. Surviving are a son, Robert Feigenwinter of Orford, N.H., and a daughter, Barbara J. Palazzolo of Monmouth Beach. Services were held at St. John’s United Methodist Church, Hazlet. Interment was in Shoreland Memorial Gardens, Hazlet. Memorial contributions may be made to Society for the Prevention of the Cruelty to Animals, 260 Wall St., Eatontown, NJ 07724.

ROBERT L. WILSON, 37, of Union Beach died March 7 at home. Born in Red Bank, he was a lifelong resident of Union Beach. He was a licensed exterminator for E&G Exterminating, South Amboy, for eight years. He was a communicant of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Union Beach. He was predeceased by his father, William Wilson in 2000, his brother William Wilson Jr. in 1968, and his sister, Barbara Ross in 1995. He is survived by his mother, Eleanor Cullen-Wilson of Union Beach; his wife Sandra Sooknanan-Wilson of Union Beach; his son, Jason Wilson at home; four sisters, Sally Maire of Raleigh, N.C.; Patricia Oxley of Aberdeen; Mary Jane Kudriek of Edison; and Carol Disbrow of Union Beach; and three brothers, James Wilson of Howell; Michael Wilson of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and Ronald Wilson of Middletown. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Union Beach. Interment was at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Keyport.

JANE MORGAN GAINES, 72, of Matawan died March 8 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Lewisburg, W.Va., she lived in New York City prior to moving to Matawan 39 years ago. She was a homemaker. She was predeceased by her husband, James W. Gaines, in 1996. She is survived by two daughters, Stacy Pibl and Kimberly Bitterman, both of Princeton; her son, James W. Gaines Jr. of Bedminster; her brother, William Morgan of Caldwell; and eight grandchildren. A funeral service was offered at the Colts Neck Reformed Church. GRACE L. KELLY, 79, of Rumson died March 8 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Greenwich Village, N.Y., she moved to Rumson as a child. She was a communicant of Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church, Rumson. She was a member of the Rumson Senior Citizens Club, and was known for her donations of handmade wreaths. She was predecease by her husband, Raymond T. Kelly Sr. in 1987. She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Lou and James Divers of the Lincroft section of Middletown, Jane and Kevin Pettigrew of the Navesink section of Middletown, and Chris and Allan Marcus of Austin, Texas; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Raymond and Kelly Ann Kelly of the River Plaza section of Middletown, and John Kelly of Rumson; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church, Rumson.

MARGUERITE CASTELLO, 93, of Matawan died March 9 at home. Born in Matawan, she was a lifelong resident. She was a retired legal secretary for a Wall Street law firm in New York City. She is survived by her dear friends, Barbara Pogue of Jersey City, Helen Gallagher, and Rose Johnson. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Clement’s Roman Catholic Church, Matawan. Interment was at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent. Memorial donations may be made to Matawan/Aberdeen Public Library, 165 Main St., Matawan 07747; the N.J. Foundation for the Blind, P.O. Box 929, Denville 07834; or the Woman’s Club of Matawan, 199 Jackson St., Matawan 07747.

LORRAINE FLORENCE MOTTERSHEAD, 72, of Garrison, N.Y., and formerly of the Lincroft section of Middletown, died March 9 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. Born in North Arlington, she lived in Lincroft prior to moving to Garrison. She was a secretary at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank, for 10 years, retiring in 1991. She was an avid sports fan as well as coach, and her hobbies included singing, gardening, and spending time with her family and dog. She was predeceased by her husband, Harry Mottershead in 1974. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Harry and Leslie Mottershead of Neptune; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Jacki and Robert Biele of Neptune; Jill and Daniel Sussman of Garrison, N.Y.; and Jayne Mottershead and Janis Mottershead, both of Neptune; her brother, Roy Nelson of Wilkes-Barre, Pa.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Interment was at Fairview Cemetery, Middletown. Memorial donations may be made to the Mother Lurana House, 166 Old West Point Road, Garrison, NY 10524.

BARBARA ANN (SITKO) GRAZIANO, 55, of the Lincroft section of Middletown died March 10 at home. Born in Trenton, she resided in Lincroft the past 27 years. She was a dental office manager for her husband, Dr. Pasquale W. Graziano, Middletown, for 27 years. She was a communicant of St. Leo The Great Roman Catholic Church, Lincroft. She was a gourmet cook whose hobbies included knitting and traveling with her family. She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Pasquale W. Graziano of Lincroft; two daughters, Kimberly Ann Graziano and Karen Marie Graziano; her sister and brother-in-law, Elaine and Paul Papai of Columbus; her mother-in-law, Dorothy Graziano of Hamilton Township; and her cousin, Arlene Zbojovsky of Yardley, Pa. A funeral gathering will be March 13 at 8:45 a.m. at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown, followed by a funeral liturgy at 9:30 a.m. at St. Leo The Great Roman Catholic Church, Lincroft. Burial will be at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 801 Broad St., Shrewsbury 07702.

ANNE E. MacDONALD CLARKE, 84, of Middletown died March 5 at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. Born in New York, she lived in Newark prior to moving to Middletown in 1955. She was a retired quality control inspector for Electronic Associates, West Long Branch. She was predeceased by her husband, Peter Joseph Clarke in 1974. She is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Peter J. and Catherine Clarke of Holmdel, and Dennis M. Clarke of Middletown; two daughters and sons-in-law, Frances and Robert Rainforth of Barnegat, and Carole and David Cuny of Buffalo Gap, S.D.; her brother and sister-in-law, Albert and Patricia MacDonald of Washington, D.C.; 19 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. Interment was at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
