JOHN MUNION, 64, of Howell died Feb. 9 at the Masonic Home of New Jersey, Burlington. He was born in Salem and lived there before moving to Howell. He was a longtime employee of the Staples Distribution Center in Trenton. He was a member of the Ardena Baptist Church, Howell. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He was a 1956 graduate of Salem High School. He was predeceased by a brother, Clifford "Bud" Munion Jr. Interment was in Ardena Baptist Church Cemetery, Adelphia.

MILDRED T. LACH GARELICK, 81, of Keyport died March 13 at home. Born in Philadelphia, she resided in Bayonne prior to moving to Keyport 15 years ago. She was a homemaker. Prior to that, she and her husband were proprietors of a Bayonne candy store until retirement in 1965. She was predeceased by her husband, Harry M. Garelick in 1951. She is survived by her daughter, Diane Tracy of the Morganville section of Marlboro; her sister, Freida Walinski of Bayonne; two brothers, Chester Lach of Old Bridge, and Henry Lach of Brick; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Day Funeral Home, Keyport, was in charge of funeral arrangements.

BEATRICE GRAVATT, 88, of Oceanport died March 6 at home. She was born in Clarksburg, and was a graduate of Freehold High School. She was employed at Dainty Apparel, Asbury Park, for several years, retiring in 1982. She was predeceased by two husbands; four brothers, Paul, Carl, Art and Bill Gravatt; and her sister, Thelma. She is survived by two sisters, Olive G. Broege, Bradley Beach, and Barbara G. Forrester, Vienna, Va.; seven nephews; six nieces; and several grand-nephews and nieces. Memorial donations may be made to the Elberon Memorial Church, P.O. Box 248, Little Silver, 07739.

ROBERT F. HOEY, 74, of Freehold Township died March 10 at The Manor, Freehold Township. Born in Carbondale, Pa., he lived in New York City, before moving to Freehold Township 41 years ago. He was a graduate of St. John’s University, New York City. He was an assistant plant manager for Phelps Dodge Co., Marlboro, where he was employed for 19 years before retiring 20 years ago. He was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold, and a member of Freehold Council No. 1672 Knights of Columbus. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Kaufmann Hoey; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert C. and Nan Hoey, Freehold; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen Marie and Carl Brott, Fremont, Mich., and Jean Marie and John White, Phoenix; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was held at St. Rose of Lima Church, followed by interment at the parish cemetery in Freehold Township.

DOROTHY LAWRENCE, 65, of Manalapan died March 11 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in New York City, she lived in Queens, N.Y., before moving to Manalapan 37 years ago. She was a communicant of St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church in Manalapan. She was a library assistant at Alexander Library, Rutgers University, New Brunswick, before retiring in 2001. She is survived by her husband, Herbert; a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Mark Bemis of Bridgewater; a sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Harvey Cohen of Wayne; and a granddaughter. Interment was at Old Tennent Cemetery, Manalapan.

MICHAEL KOWALCZYK, 41, of Freehold Township died March 12 at home. Born in Jersey City, he formerly resided in West New York before moving to Freehold Township seven years ago. He was the owner and executive chef of Marielle’s Bistro, Freehold; a member of the American Culinary Federation; and a certified executive chef. He was predeceased by his father, Benjamin Kowalczyk. Surviving are his wife, Marian Jakubiak; his mother, Helen Kowalczyk of West New York; a sister, Maryann Mohamed of North Bergen; and a brother, Benjamin Kowalczyk of Robbinsville. A funeral liturgy was held at St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold, followed by interment in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.

STANLEY KAZLAUSKIS, 82, of Freehold died March 13 at Community Medical Center, Toms River. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he lived in Freehold all his life. He was a yard foreman for Weyerhaeuser Co., Freehold, for 35 years, retiring in the 1980s. He was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold. He was a member of the Academy of Model Aeronautics and was a lifelong builder of model airplanes. He served three years in the U.S. Army during World War II and saw action in the Pacific Islands. Surviving are two sisters, Sophie Layton of Freehold and Alice Lamont of Englishtown; a brother, Don Kazlauskis of Jackson; and eight nieces and nephews. A funeral liturgy was held at St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church Chapel, Freehold.

LEE R. VAN VECHTEN, 67, of Freehold Township died March 14 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Darby, Pa., he lived in West Chester, Pa., before moving to Freehold Township in 1974. He was a sales consultant motivational trainer and the author of four books on sales training and customer service. He owned and operated the FGI and Affiliated Publishing Companies Inc., Freehold Township, for the past 27 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving from 1959 to 1963. He was a former member of the Independent Fire Company No. 1, Freehold Township. He served on the Freehold Township Zoning Board of Adjustment. He was a member of the Freehold Township Republican Club. He is survived by his wife, Tanya Van Vechten of Freehold Township; a son and his fiancée, Derrick L. Van Vechten and Noelle Frederick of Red Bank; and a mother-in-law, Dorothy Husk of Howell. Interment was in Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Arneytown.

BERNARD PREIS, 73, of Fort Myers, Fla., died March 8 at Shell Point Village Hospital in Fort Myers. Born in Bayonne, he lived in the Morganville section of Marlboro most of his life before moving to Florida in 1996. He was a self-employed excavator, owning and operating B&H Excavating Co. in Morganville for 25 years before retiring in 1991. He was a 46-year member of the Morganville Volunteer Fire Co., Fire Police and a trustee. He served in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1950 as a mechanic on military vessels. Surviving are his wife, Gloria of Fort Myers, and a sister, Gertrude Preis of Queens, N.Y. Interment was in St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township.

GARY JOHN BRECK, 47, of Manasquan, formerly of East Brunswick, died March 5 at home. Surviving are his mother, Marie Hosle Breck of East Brunswick; a brother, Wayne Breck of Old Bridge; two sisters, Donna Breck of Manalapan and Laura Breck of Dunellen; a niece; and his companion, Evelyn Mihok. A Mass was offered at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Old Bridge. Interment was private.
