Carol Stratigos Alafouzos

Mrs. Alafouzos, 73, of Hazlet died Dec. 17 at home. She resided in New York City prior to moving to Hazlet in 1968. Mrs. Alafouzos was a homemaker. Prior to that, she worked at Atlantis Newspaper, and as a substitute teacher, both in New York City. She was a founding member of Kimisis Tis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church, Holmdel, where she also served as a parish board member and sang in the choir. She was a member of the Bayshore American Hellenic Association. Mrs. Alafouzos was predeceased by her husband, Stavros Alafouzos, in 1994. She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Laura Schulte of the West Keansburg section of Hazlet, and Georgette and Jerome Dean Jr. of Hazlet; a son, Aristotle Alafouzos of Point Pleasant Beach; and four grandchildren. A funeral gathering was held at Kimisis Tis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church, Holmdel. Burial was at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown. Arrangements were by John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. Memorial donations may be made to Kimisis Tis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church, 20 Hillcrest Road, Holmdel 07733.

John Low

Mr. Low, 80, of Matawan died Dec. 16 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Perth Amboy, he resided in New York City, Staten Island, N.Y., and Old Bridge before moving to Matawan 50 years ago. He was a tool and die maker at Carborundum, Keasbey, for 35 years, retiring in 1985. He served with the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was a member of Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA), and enjoyed travel and fishing. He was also a speech teacher volunteer with a local laryngectomy club. He is survived by his wife, Mildred M. Vreeland Low; four daughters, Peggy DeLuca, Constance Lawrence, Cassandra Low and Renee Low; three sisters, Edna, Frances and Dolores; a brother, Joseph; three grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Arrangements were by Day Funeral Home, Keyport.

C. Lorraine Carhart

Mrs. Carhart, 93, of Keyport died Dec. 14 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in New York City, she was a lifelong resident of Keyport. Mrs. Carhart was a homemaker. Prior to that, she was employed as a receptionist for Dr. George Rooney in Keyport, and at the former Keyport Banking Co. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Keyport. She enjoyed travel, bridge, and was a member of the Keyport Senior Center. She was predeceased by her husband, Kelsey A. Carhart, in 1994; and a sister, Annetta Marie Chizmadia, in 1996. Mrs. Carhart is survived by a son, Larry K. Carhart of El Cajon, Calif.; a daughter, Carol A. Carhart of Keyport; and a brother, Frederick Kaufer of Keyport. Interment was at Green Grove Cemetery, Keyport. The Bedle Funeral Home, Keyport, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Keyport Steeple Fund, 232 Main St., Keyport 07735.
Patricia J. Mayo Troisi

Mrs. Troisi, 84, of Whitehouse Station died Dec. 5 at Central Jersey Jewish Home for the Aged, Somerset. Born in South Brooklyn, N.Y., she resided in Brooklyn, and Bellmore, N.Y., prior to moving to Whitehouse Station in 1996. She was a communicant of St. Matthew’s Ro­man Catholic Church, Somerville. She was a member and past president of the American Legion Wom­en’s Auxiliary, Cummings Broth­ers Post, Brooklyn. She was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Louis A. Troisi in 1996; three sisters; Genevieve Antonino, Gladys Mon­temarano and Betty Mayo; and three brothers, Michael Mayo, Joseph Mayo and Anthony Mayo. She is survived by her son and daugh­ter-in-law, Ralph A. and Felicia A. Troisi of Middletown; three daughters and sons-in-law, Geraldine and Joseph Pastore of Clifton Park, N.Y., Marie and Michael Meriton of Westfield, and Lisa and Warren Stewart of Whitehouse Station; a sister, Anna Casano of Vero Beach, Fla.; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was of­fered at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth. Arrangements were by John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank. Interment was at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown. Memorial donations may be made to Parkin­son’s DX I & CTR., NJ APDA Chapter, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, 1 Robert Wood Johnson Place, New Brunswick 08901.

Lois A. Prenderville

Mrs. Prenderville, 71, of Howell died Dec. 16 at home. Born in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., she resided in the Oak Hill section of Middletown prior to moving to Howell in 1987. She was parish secretary at St. Leo the Great Roman Catholic Church, Lincroft section of Middletown, for 22 years, and was instrumental in the daily running of the parish. She was also a communicant of the church, as well as a member of its Holy Innocents Society. Mrs. Prenderville was predeceased by a sister, Mary Jane Dooley. She is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Christopher Prenderville of Freehold, and Richard and Jennifer Prenderville of Amsterdam, Netherlands; a daughter and son-in-law, Megan Prenderville and Mike Harper of Red Bank; a sister, Helen Muraglio of Toms River; three grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Leo the Great Roman Catholic Church, followed by interment at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. Memorial donations may be made to The Church of St. Leo the Great, 50 Hurley’s Lane, Lincroft 07738.

Paula Berkowitz Moskowitz

Mrs. Moskowitz, 62, of Sayreville died Dec. 19 at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy. She was a bookkeeper at Jacobsen, Goldfarb and Tanzman, Woodbridge, the past five years. Mrs. Moskowitz is survived by her husband of 42 years, Benjamin Moskowitz; a son, David Moskowitz of Morgan; two daughters and one son-in-law, Sharon and Christopher Hill of Spotswood, and Eve French of Keyport; three brothers, Larry Berkowitz of Fort Myers, Fla., Stuart Karmelin of Dacula, Ga., and Howard Karmelin of Atlanta; two sisters, Rachel Rabinowitz of Queens, N.Y., and Marilyn Smith of Tampa, Fla.; and three grandchildren. Services were held at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge. Arrangements were by Eckman Funeral Home, Spotswood.

Joseph C. Cooney

Mr. Cooney, 78, of Hazlet died Dec. 6 at home. Born in Newark, he resided in Orange prior to moving to Hazlet 34 years ago. He was a clerk at Railroad Express Inc., Newark, for several years, retiring in 1974. He was a communicant of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Union Beach. Mr. Cooney was a member of the Hazlet Board of Education. He was a coach for the Hazlet Youth Athletic League and was an avid bowler. He was predeceased by his wife, Josephine Cooney, in 1993; four brothers, Al Cooney, Peter Cooney, James Cooney and William Cooney; and two sisters, Alma Cooney and Agnes Cooney. He is survived by four daughters, Noreen Sturgeon of Highlands, Joanne McMenamie and Cynthia Cruz, both of Jackson, and Margaret McGinnis of Long Branch; four sons, Joseph Cooney of Middletown, Patrick Cooney of Dunellen, John Cooney of Lake Ariel, Pa., and Paul Cooney of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; 18 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Arrangements were by Day Funeral Home, Keyport. Interment was at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown.

Edward A. Davis

Mr. Davis, 64, of East Brunswick died Dec. 14 in St. Peter’s University Hospital, New Brunswick. A grandson, Matthew Morosoff, died in 1999. Surviving are his wife, Diane Capone Davis; two daughters, Cindy Morosoff of Tinton Falls and Terri Addona of Holliston, Mass.; three brothers, James of Fort Meyers, Fla., the Rev. Joseph Davis, pastor of St. Therese Roman Catholic Church, Succasunna, and Peter Davis of Long Branch; six sisters, Ellen Matzuk, Patricia Davis and Loretta Goger, all of Fort Meyers, Caroline McKenna of Cranford, Mary Davis of Rahway and Trudy Donnelly of Lady Lake, Fla.; and five grandchildren. A Mass was planned for 10 a.m. on Dec. 18 at St. Bartholomew’s Church, East Brunswick. Entombment was to follow in Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent dePaul Society, c/o St. Bartholomew’s Church, 460 Ryders Lane, East Brunswick, NJ 08816.

James T. Conover

Mr. Conover, 43, of Keyport died Dec. 12 at home. Born in Perth Amboy, he resided in Florida prior to moving to Keyport two years ago. He was a salesman at Home Depot, Hazlet, for five years. He served with the U.S. Navy during peacetime. He was predeceased by his father, James Conover, in 1994. He is survived by his son, Christopher James Conover of South Carolina; his daughter, Nicole Conover of South Carolina; his mother, Eileen Hogan Conover of Keyport; two sisters, Kelly Switzer of Sayreville and Sandra Conover of Virginia; his brother, Scott Conover of Lanoka Harbor; and two nieces and two nephews. Visitation will be Dec. 18 from 7-9 p.m. at Day Funeral Home, Keyport A funeral service will be Dec. 19 at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by interment at New Jersey Veterans Cemetery, Arneytown.
