CARLOS R. ASCENSAO, of Fairfield, died on Sunday, June 8, 2003. He was 70. Born in Murtosa, Portugal, he lived in Kearny for 45 years before moving to Fairfield seven years ago. He died at home in Fairfield. He was a general contractor for 20 years, self-employed by Carlos Ascensao and Son in Kearny. Previously, he was employed for 22 years with Otis Elevator, Harrison. Most recently, he was a surveyor for F.A.P.S. (Foreign Auto Preparation Service), Port Newark, for 10 years, before retiring in 2000. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #6928 at St. Cecilia RC Church, Kearny. He was also a member of the Lions Club, the Harrison; International Longshoreman's Association, and member and past president of the Kearny Portuguese American Club. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Lorraine (nee Mattos); daughter, Donna Malet of Fairfield; son, David Ascensao of Kearny; sister, Maria Paiva of Cliffwood Beach, N.J. and brother, Jack Ascensao of Montville; twin grandsons, Daniel and Nicholas Malet and Carlos Ascensao. Funeral services were conducted by the Ippolito-Stellato Funeral Home, 7 Two Bridges Road, Fairfield. A funeral mass was held at St. Thomas More RC Church, Fairfield. Donations can be sent to St. Barnabas Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 187 Millburn Avenue, Suite 102, Millburn, NJ 07041-1845.

AMBROSE M. BAJKOWSKY, of East Newark, died on Tuesday, June 10, 2003. He was 77. Born in Eynon, Pa., he lived most of his life in Harrison and East Newark. He died at Columbus Hospital, Newark. He was a maintenance worker for Wilkata Folding Company, Kearny, for 37 years before retirement in 1991. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Husband of Sophie (nee Czaikowski); father of Ronald, Robert, Gary and Kathryn Danatzko; brother of Julius, Paul and Dorothy Johnson, Blanch Gilbert and the late Bernard; grandfather of Carrieann, Danielle and Gary Bajkowsky and John Danatzko. A private service will be held under the direction of Piasecki Memorial, 336 Cleveland Ave., Harrison.

MARY ROSE CAPOZZI (nee Pizzano), of East Newark, died on Saturday, June 14, 2003. She was 82. Born in Pittston, Pa., she lived in East Newark for the last 70 years, and prior to that, Pittston, Pa. She died at home. She worked as a seamstress at Clark's Thread Mill in East Newark, including the manufacture of military uniforms for the Armed Forces during World War II, until 1949 when she left to raise four children and worked as a homemaker. She was a member of the Rosary Society of St. Anthony's Church, East Newark. Beloved wife of the late Pasquale "Patsy;" devoted mother of Joseph and Connie, Patrick. Michael and Cathy and Maria and Robert Rokoszak; cherished grandmother of Melissa, Justin, Nicholas, Bryan, Dana, Christian and Brianna; loving sister of Angelina Romano, Elizabeth Boccoline, Ann Testa, Helen Orlowicz and the late Carmine and Paul Pizzano; dear aunt to many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted by the Mulligan Funeral Home, 331 Cleveland Ave. on Wednesday, June 18 at 9:30 a.m. A funeral mass will follow at 10 a.m. in St. Anthony's Church, East Newark Entombment will be in Holy Cross Chapel Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Mary's memory to the American Parkinson's Disease Association, 1 Robert Wood Johnson Place, New Brunswick, NJ 08901.

ELIZABETH M. CULLEN, "Our Mom," formerly of Kearny, passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2003 in Browndale, Pa. She was 78. She was the last of 18 children to Mr. And Mrs. Eugene Brandy; beloved wife of Vincent Cullen; loving mother to daughter Mary (John) Boylan, Diane (Richard) Shope, Debbie (Scott ) Wilkenson; pre-deceased by daughters Elizabeth Firuta, Margaret (Roy) Stawicki-Bosveld; loving grandmother of eight, Kimberly (Leo )Wall, David (Lisa) Fuchs, Scott (Amy) Fuchs, Danielle Stawicki, Allison and Matthew Shope, Kelly (Jake) Wilkenson; loving great-grandmother of seven Justine and Joshua Wall, Brianna, Julia, Patrick Fuchs, Elizabeth and Joseph Stawicki. Our prayers and love are with them always.

SAMUEL GENNACE, of Kearny, died on Sunday, June 15, 2003. He was 82. Born in Kearny, he was a lifelong resident. He died in West Hudson Hospital, Kearny. He served in the Army during World War II and was a
life member of the Wilson Gugelman American Legion Post 99 of Kearny. He was an active member of the
Christian Apostolic Church in Kearny and served as its financial trustee. He was a department manager at the Kearny Shop-Rite for 30 years, before retiring in 1985. Husband of Cesarina (nee Maio), he is survived by
his daughter, Deborah M. Lynch and her husband, Andrew R. and his son, Samuel D. Gennace and his wife, Mary; brother of Daniel Gennace, Adeline DeStefano and Carmella Cattafi; grandfather of Jennifer, Theresa,
Sarah and Samuel; also survived by many dear nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted by the Wilfred Armitage Funeral Home, 596 Belgrove Drive, Kearny. A service will be held in Christian Apostolic Church, 219 Laurel Ave., Kearny on Wednesday at 11 a.m. Interment will be held at Arlington Cemetery. In lieu
of flowers, please make a donation to the church.

VINCENT G. MACE, of Kearny, died on Thursday, June 12, 2003. He was 84. He was a lifelong resident of Kearny. He died in Newton Memorial Hospital, Newton. He owned and operated H. Mace Movers in Kearny for
30 years before retiring in 1980. He was an Army veteran of World War II. A member and past president of the West Hudson Optimists, Mr. Mace was also an honorary member of the Kearny Rotary Club. He was also a member of St. Stephen's Holy Name Society. Predeceased by his wife, Evelyn (nee Bentley) and a brother, Arthur, Mr. Mace is survived by a son, Vincent G. Mace, Jr.; a daughter, Marybeth Ganning; a brother and sister, Richard Mace and Doris Dowie and his grandchildren, Dr. Eileen Mace Leibson, Laura Morley, Terri Mace, Evan and Kyle Ganning and his great-grandchildren, Alex Morley and Ryan Leibson. Funeral services were conducted by the Condon Funeral Home, 684 Kearny Ave., Kearny. A funeral mass was held in St. Stephen's Church, Kearny. Interment followed in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.

HELEN L. McDONOUGH), of Kearny, died on Saturday, June 14, 2003. She was 82. Born in Trenton, she lived in Kearny since 1942. She also maintained a summer home in Lavallette, N.J. for the past 50 years. She died in Clara Maass Continuing Care Center, Kearny. She was employed at the R.C.A. (Radio Corporation of
America) plant in Harrison for 37 years as a supervisor until 1975. Beloved sister of Mrs. Marie Topping, Mrs. Ann Fay and Mrs. Alice Dunne; cherished aunt of numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted by the Edward T. Reid Home for Funerals, 585 Belgrove Drive, Kearny. A funeral mass was held in St. Stephen's Church, Kearny.
