Norman Jack Walter, 86
Mr. Walter was a retired public school educator in Hightstown, NJ, completing 30 years as a teacher, administrator and athletic coach. Additionally, he served the Borough of Hightstown as a councilman and on other boards and commissions for many years. Norman Jack Walter, 86, of Wilmington, NC, died Sunday, December 22, 2013, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington. He was born in Philadelphia, PA, April 30, 1927, son of the late Louis F. Walter, Jr. and Wilhelmina Widmann Walter. Mr. Walter was a retired public school educator in Hightstown, NJ, completing 30 years as a teacher, administrator and athletic coach. Additionally, he served the Borough of Hightstown as a councilman and on other boards and commissions for many years. He was a graduate of The Williamson Free School of Mechanical Trades in Media, Pa, The College of New Jersey, Trenton, where he earned BA and MA degrees in Industrial Education and Technology, and Rider University, Trenton, NJ, School Administration. As a teenager, Mr. Walter followed his two older brothers into the United States Navy during World War II. He participated with U.S. Amphibian Forces in the South Pacific (two campaigns) plus landing in Japan. He was reactivated by t he U.S. Navy during the Korean War, serving on the battleship U.S.S. New Jersey BB62 off the coast of Korea. Mr. Walter was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hightstown, NJ and St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Wilmington, NC. He was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, a Shriner, and life member of Arab Shrine Club in Wilmington. He had life memberships in the American Legion Post 10, VFW Post 5700, DAV Chapter 11, and U.S.S. New Jersey BB62 Veterans, Inc. Carl Clifton Faith
April 28, 1927 - January 12, 2014

A resident of Princeton, NJ since 1960, Carl Faith was born in a house on Fifth Street near the Ohio River in Covington, Kentucky. He was raised up in Covington's Peaselburg neighborhood, where he and his late brother Fred went to the 5th and 7th District Schools and Holmes High School. He was drafted into the US Navy in 1945, trained to be a Radio Technician, and was graduated with the rank of Aviation Technician Mate, third class, in August 1946. With the help of the GI Bill, he attended the University of Kentucky, Lexington, graduating magna cum laude with Honors in Mathematics. In 1955 he received his PhD in mathematics from Purdue U., West Lafayette, Indiana, where he studied with the late Dr. Sam Perlis. He taught at Pennsylvania State, Purdue University, and Michigan State, and was a Fulbright-NATO post-doctoral fellow at Heidelberg University, Germany. He was appointed Full Professor of Mathematics at Rutgers University, New Brunswick and Piscataway, New Jersey, in 1962, and taught there until his retirement in 1997. He was a National Science Foundation Postdoctoral Fellow and a Member of the Institute for Advanced Study (IAS), Princeton, NJ, 1960-1962. He also was a visitor at the IAS in 1973-74, 1977-78, and summers 1960-79. In 1970 he attended Tulane University's Algebra Year, and in 1965-1966, he was a visiting scholar at the University of California at Berkeley. In 1968, Faith was a consultant for the National Science Foundation and the U. S. Agency for International Development (USAID) in India, lecturing in New Delhi, Bombay, Madras, Calcutta and Jaipur. In spring 1986 and fall 1989, Dr. Faith was Visiting Professor at Centre Reserca Matematica in Barcelona, where he worked with the late Professor Pere Menal and his students Drs. Jaume Moncasi, Pere Ara, Dolors Herbera, and Rosa Camps. In May 2003, he was honored by his Alma Mater in Covington and inducted into Holmes High School Hall of Distinction. In 2007, Professor Faith and Professor Barbara Osofsky of Rutgers, his PhD student, were feted at an International Conference at Zanesville, Ohio in celebration of his 80th and her 70th birthdays. Rosemarie Kainz, 79,
Rosemarie Kainz, 79, died on January 3, 2014. She was born a German in the Sudetenland of Czechoslovakia on December 28, 1934 to Hilda Kainz Laudon and was raised in the town of Rottach-Egern in the Bavarian alps of Germany. She loved ice-dancing, hiking in the mountains and most of all horseback riding on her beloved horse, Princess. In her early twenties, she came to the United States to work for Mr. and Mrs. William Bristol in Princeton and ultimately made a home for herself in Coopersburg, PA. Hard working, determined and self-taught in many skills, she touched the lives of many. She was a talented cook who could also sew and knit beautifully. Her heart was generous, her laugh infectious and she gave freely of herself to help others. She loved children and dogs and sang with a beautiful voice. She was predeceased by her sister, Hildegard, and nephew, Karl. She is survived by her sister, Elfi Kirchberger

Robert C. Kuhn, 83
Robert C. Kuhn, 83, died on Friday January 10th at his home. He was born and raised in Newark, NJ and has lived in Hillsborough for the past 50 years. Robert retired from Permacel Co. in North Brunswick, NJ where he was an accountant. He was an Army Veteran who served during the Korean War. Robert was a member of the Hillsborough Rescue Squad and was also on the Board of Directors of the Somerset Branch of the American Red Cross. Surviving are his wife of 57 years Vesta (Jantzen) Kuhn, his daughter Dr. Adelaide Kuhn of Hopewell and his grandson Robert Nigel Bates. June H. Haug, 86
June H. Haug, 86, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2014 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Hillsborough, where June was a resident for 54 years. June was born on July 4, 1927 in Newark, New Jersey, the daughter of Evelyn Gray and Thomas Peter Henderson. She was married to Charles A. Haug, her husband of 46 years, and enjoyed being a homemaker, taking great pride in her family, and maintaining her home. June also enjoyed gardening, cooking, and traveling with Charles to Myrtle Beach. She was active in her husband's 4-H club, a charter member of Hillsborough Presbyterian Church, a former Sunday school teacher, and Cub Scout den mother. June was preceded in death by her husband and is survived by her children, Roger (Lora) Haug of Pella, IA, Barbara Jean (Thomas) Good of Clive, IA, and Charles (Cindy) Haug, Jr. of Flemington, NJ

Benjamin M. Thomas 3rd, 79
Lambertville - Benjamin M. Thomas 3rd, passed away on Saturday January 11, 2014 after a valiant struggle with metatastic cancer. He was 79 Father of the late Georgeanne Thomas, he is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years Jane Garb Thomas, a son Alan Carr Thomas (Frances Bouchoux) and daughter Marianne Hierspiel. He is also survived by stepdaughters Jennifer Kaplan and Victoria Nichols, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Mr. Thomas was a graduate of Brown University and Rutgers University (MA in Education) where he was an adjunct professor. He served four years in the US Navy as a reserve officer . His career was in sales and marketing primarily in publishing, spanned 40 years before retiring. He was a superb athlete (best baseball player Brown ever had) a jazz aficionado, a gentleman and scholar. Private funeral services and burial were help Monday at Greenwood Cemetery, Hamilton.His dear nephew, Rabbi Jonathan Blake, will officiate. Antonio Mennella, 77
Antonio Mennella, 77 of Skillman, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 8th 2014 among family and friends. Born and raised in Ischia, Italy, Antonio served in the Italian Navy and the Italian Merchant Marines. He immigrated to the United States in 1963 where he lived in Princeton, NJ and then ultimately Skillman, NJ for more than 35 years. He was employed at S.T. Peterson Construction Company, he was a member of the Laborers Local 50 Union and lastly with Dow Jones and Co., Inc. He retired in 2001. A cancer survivor of more than 10 years, he possessed enormous strength. He was a devoted and caring father and pop-pop. He enjoyed gardening, cooking and spending time with his family. Elaine Baxter Hansen, 82
Elaine Baxter Hansen, 82, died peacefully in her home in Princeton, NJ on Friday January 10, 2014. She was the daughter of Andrew and Catherine Banker of Trenton, NJ. She was preceded in death by her brother, Andrew Banker, and her sisters, Kathryn M. Kudra and Lorraine Steinman. She is survived by her husband of 22 years, Col. George Hansen, M.D., and her sister, Violet Jester of Washington Crossing, PA. She was the widow of Alan G. Baxter of Princeton. She is also survived by many step-children, and nieces and nephews. She was the proprietor of Les Girls Salon, a Pennsylvania landmark that first operated in Trenton and moved to Morrisville more than a half-century ago. A woman of indomitable spirit, she was strong, insightful and always looking forward to life. She will be missed by many. Throughout the years, thousands of women and men traveled to her salon to relax and be transformed. A cancer survivor of many years, she was beacon of light and hope for many women. Doris Lynn (Clements) Kratzer, 70,
Doris Lynn (Clements) Kratzer, 70, of Browns Mills, NJ, passed peacefully to eternal rest with her loving family by her side on January 9, 2014. She was the wife of the late Samuel William Kratzer, who passed away in 2011. She was the daughter of the late Wilfred J. and Doris E. (Behrens) Clements. Lynn graduated from The Katherine Gibbs School of Business with an Associate's Degree in 1963. She married her husband, Sam, in 1968. They were happily married for 43 years. Lynn began her career at The Campbell Soup Company, and then worked for American Cyanamid for more than 30 years as an executive assistant. Later, she worked for Princeton University in the History Department for more than 15 years as an assistant to professors and students. Lynn enjoyed her work, but her favorite and most treasured roles were that of wife, mother and grandmother. She had a passion and true artistic talent for needlework, embroidery and rug hooking. Lynn was a former instructor of Needlepoint and Embroidery at Mercer County College. She was also passionate about volunteering. While at American Cyanamid, Lynn dedicated many years to collecting Christmas gifts for Project Angel Tree and various local shelters. Lynn is survived by her Son, Todd S. Ruth Holmes Honadle, 94
Ruth Holmes Honadle, 94, of Cream Ridge, NJ died February 10, 2014. Upper Freehold's first historian, she was a member of the Upper Freehold Township Open Space and Scenic Roads Committees, a member of the Monmouth County Historical Association, a trustee of the Allentown-Upper Freehold Historical Society, a trustee of the Van Kouwenhoven-Conover Family Association and a member of the Friends of the Old Yellow Meeting House. Ruth was predeceased by her husband Harold Honadle, a sister Helen Holmes Brick, a brother Joseph Holmes, and her best friend Kitty Robson. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, George and Beth Honadle of Caton, NY

Richard A. Noll, 92
Richard A. Noll, 92 of Hillsborough, NJ passed away on Sunday, March 23, 2014. Richard was born on December 12, 1921, in the Noll Farm House, on Noll Lane, which sits to the corner of Homestead Road in Hillsborough, New Jersey. He enjoyed working on the almost 200 acre Noll Farm, particularly when he drove the horses. In addition to working on the farm, Richard worked in the Morris Hall Nursing Home and as a custodian for Hillsborough High School. He was a life member of Mary Mother of God Church. Richard was a friendly person, who had an excellent memory and shared many stories of life on the Noll Farm with family and friends. He had a penchant for sweets, especially chocolate and eating at the Hillsborough Diner. In addition, he enjoyed gardening, exercising and attending the annual Noll family reunion. Richard is predeceased by his parents, Michael A. Noll Jr. and Agnes Harter Noll
