Brielle resident Joseph T. Mansfield died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002 in Laurelton Village, Brick Township.
He was 87 years old.
Born in Jersey City, Mr. Mansfield lived in Elizabeth before moving to Brielle 24 years ago.
He was employed for 43 years with Phelps Dodge Corporation, Elizabeth, retiring as a copper inspector in 1976.
He was a communicant of St. Denis Church, Manasquan.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Sophie Dubikowic Mansfield; three sons, Brother Terrance [Thomas], FMM, Clarence, N.Y., Robert, Elizabeth, and Richard [USAF-Retired], Silver Spring, Md.; and two grandchildren, Dawn and Dennis.
Funeral arrangements were from the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan.

Eugene N. Geary
World War II Veteran
Wall Township resident Eugene Nicholas Geary died Friday, Jan. 25 2002 in Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune.
He was 86 years old.
Born in Akron, Ohio, Mr. Geary lived in Lambertville and Asbury Park before moving to Wall in 1946.
He was employed for many years as a custodian with the Township of Wall School Systems before retiring in the mid 70s. He was currently employed with Wash UR Car, Wall.
He was an active member for more than 40 years of the Pat Joyce Association, Wall, and was a member of the Wall Township Elks Lodge.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving from 1942-46 as a first sergeant in charge of guarding detail at the Nuremberg Trials.
Surviving are his loving wife of 35 years, Betty Caron Geary; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Dale Marie and Craig Chase, Stafford, Va., Kathleen Caron, Wall, and Marie A. and Peter W. Jost, Brick Township; one brother, Richard, DeLand, Fla., a brother-in-law, Vincent Cemino, Whiting; five grandchildren, Sarah and David Chase, Bradley and Hillary Jost, and Daniel Caron; and one nephew, Richard Geary Jr., Florida.
Funeral arrangements were from the OıBrien Funeral Home, Wall.

Norman Niven

Wall Township resident Norman Niven died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002 in his home.
He was 72 years old.
Born in Jamaica, N.Y., Mr. Niven lived in Old Bridge before moving to Wall 27 years ago.
He was employed for 34 years as a foreman with the New Jersey Bell Corporation, Farmingdale, retiring in 1991.
He was a member of the American Veterans Post No. 36, East Brunswick, the U.S. Power Squadron, and the Barnegat Bay Sail Club.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, and was a captain in the U.S. Coast Guard.
He was predeceased by his brother, Thomas Andrew, and his sister, Muriel Niven.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia Lally Niven; one son, Norman, California; two daughters, Mary Jane Niven, California, and Susan Niven, France; and three grandchildren, John, David, and Chelsea.
Funeral arrangements were from the Armitage Funeral Home, Wall.
Contributions in Mr. Nivenıs memory may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, St. Jude Childrenıs Hospital, the American Labor Museum, or to a charity of your choice.

Lena H. Haberstick

Belmar resident Lena H. Haberstick died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002 in Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune.
She was 91 years old.
Born in Chester, Mrs. Haberstick moved to Belmar in 1944.
She was employed for many years as a seamstress with Roxanne Swim Suits, Bradley Beach, and she and her husband owned a taxi service in Belmar during the 1950s and 1960s.
She was one of the original ³Rosie the Rivet² girls who worked for the Picatinny Arsenal, Dover, during World War II.
She was a lifetime member of the Belmar Hook and Ladder Axillary, serving as secretary for 20 years. She was the original driver of the Belmar Coffee Wagon for the Belmar Fire Department, and a charter member of the Belmar First Aid Squad.
She was predeceased by her husband, Howard A. Haberstick Sr., her parents, Phillip and Anna Frey Hoffman, and her step-son, Jack Cook Haberstick Sr.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Robert H. Sr. and Barbara Lokerson Haberstick, Wall; one daughter, Barbara H. Staubitz, Belmar; three grandchildren, Robert G. Staubitz, Belmar, Robert H. Haberstick Jr., and Nancy Lynn Haberstick, both of Wall, five step-grandchildren, Jack C., Steven, Alan, David and Howard Haberstick, all of Pennsylvania; eight step great-grandchildren; her adopted grandson, Thomas Kellegher; and her cats, Stanley and Stewart.
Funeral arrangements were from the Johnson-McGinley Funeral Home, Wall.

Mary Veronica Boyan

Wall Township resident Mary Veronica Boyan died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002 in Sunnyside Manor, Wall.
Born in the Bronx, N.Y., Miss Boyan lived for many years in Yonkers, N.Y., before moving to Wall.
She was employed for 49 years with the New York Bell Telephone Company [now Verizon], retiring as head of bookkeeping in the White Plains, N.Y., office.
She was a communicant of St. Denis Church, Manasquan.
She was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Telephone Pioneers of America.
Surviving are one sister, Catherine B. Moran, Lakewood; two nephews, William C. Moran, Farmingdale, and James B. Moran, Normandy Beach; two nieces, Catherine G. Moran, Silver Springs, Md., and Elizabeth H. Maher, Washington, DC; eight grandnieces and nephews; and five great-grandnieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements were from the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan.
Contributions in Miss Boyanıs memory may be made to the Alzheimerıs Foundation.

John Joseph Farrell
Company President
Little Silver resident John Joseph Farrell, whose sisters live in Sea Girt, Wall Township and Manasquan, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2002 in Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center, New Brunswick.
He was 71 years old.
Born in West Orange, Mr. Farrell lived in Milburn before moving to Little Silver three years ago. He maintained a summer home in Mantoloking for many years, and a home in Orlando, Fla.
He was a graduate of Seton Hall Prep School, and earned a degree from Holly Cross College, Class of 1951.
He was president of the International Terminal Operating Company, New York City, retiring as president in 1992.
He was a member of the Church of the Nativity, Little Silver, and a former parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Church, Short Hills.
Mr. Farrell was a longtime member and past president of the Downtown Athletic Club, New York City, and served as a chairman of the Heisman Trophy committee. He was a past president of both the General Stevedoring Council and the Whitehall Club. He was an active alumnus and held a current post on the Board of Trustees of Seton Hall Prep School. He was active with the Boy Scouts of America, the Essex County Country Club, and the Orange Tree Country Club, Orlando, Fla. He served on the board of directors of the New York Shipping Association and as past president of the USA Division of Inter-cargo Handling Coordination Association.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict serving as a lieutenant.
He was predeceased by his son, Matthew, one brother, Dick, and two sisters, Ann and Pat.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Gloria Palihnich Farrell; two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Gina, Bradley Beach, and Nicholas and Nora, Orlando, Fla.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen and Harry Dayton, Ridgefield, Conn., and Julie and Douglas Jackson, Little Silver; one brother, Judge Michael Farrell, Washington, D.C.; three sisters, Elizabeth Geiger, Sea Girt, Jane Meyer, Wall, and Susan Warnick, Manasquan; eight grandchildren, Sean, Nicholas, Jacob, and Hannah Farrell, Jessica and James Dayton, and Kileen and Douglas Farrell; and 47 nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements were from the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan.

Harold Landau
World War II Veteran
Lancaster, Pa., resident Harold Landau, formerly of Wall Township, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002 in Essa Flory Hospice Center.
He was 86 years old.
Born in New York City, Mr. Landau lived in the New York area and Wall before moving to Lancaster, Pa., in 1997.
He attended New York University, where he sang with the Collegiate Chorale under conductor Robert Shaw.
He was employed in the textile sales industry. After retirement, he became a licensed real estate broker and appraiser in New Jersey, and occasionally worked in retail and as a mediator for the American Arbitration Association.
He was a volunteer with Big Brothers of New York, Deborah Heart and Lung Association of New Jersey, the Clean Ocean Campaign of New Jersey, and Landis Valley Museum.
He was an avid tennis player, and a past member of the U.S. Tennis Umpires Association. He enjoyed golf, travel, gardening and his pets.
He was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II, serving as a cryptographic technician stationed in England, France, Luxembourg and Germany.
Surviving are his wife of 35 years, Pamela Philips Landau; one daughter, Diana Landau DeLory, San Francisco, and one sister, Selma Medoff, Worcester, Mass.
Funeral arrangements were from the Cremation Society of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg, Pa.
