Paul Oceanak

KINGWOOD TOWNSHIP, NJ - Paul Oceanak, age 86 years, of Kingwood Township, NJ, died on Wednesday, April 25, 2012, in the Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ.

Born in South River, NJ, February 3, 1926, he was the son of the late Thomas and Agatha Oceanak. He had resided in Hunterdon County most of his life.

Mr. Oceanak was a Professional Land Surveyor and retired from Bohren & Bohren, Flemington, NJ after forty-five years there. He was a member of the Prfessional Land Surveyors Society and licensed in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

He was a member of the Kingwood Township Volunteer Fire Company for forty-five years and was an avid deer hunter.

Surviving are his wife of sixty-three years, Vivian A. Dillone Oceanak; a son, Paul R. Oceanak, Sr. of Frenchtown, NJ; two grandchildren, Paul R. Oceanak, Jr. and Jaclyn M. Oceanak; and a great-granddaughter Reese.

A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, May 5, 2012, at 10:00AM in Our Lady of Victories Church, Baptistown, NJ, under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hunterdon Regional Cancer Center, 2100 Wescott Drive, Flemington, NJ 08822.

Robert Novitch

HOLMDEL, NJ - Robert Novitch died on Tuesday, April 24, 2012, in Bayshore Healthcare Center, Holmdel, NJ.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday at 10:30 AM in Flemington Jewish Community Center Cemetery, Flemington, NJ, under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.

Linda S. Walker

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ - Linda Walker, age 51 years, of Hillsborough, NJ, died on Sunday, April 8, 2012, in the Hunterdon Medical Center, Flemington, NJ.

Born in Flemington, March 11, 1961, she had resided in Hillsborough since 1999. She was a graduate of Hunterdon Central Regional High School, where she was majorette in the school band. She was currently an office manager for Active Imprints, Monmouth Junction, NJ.

A member of the Wednesday Night Bowling League, Linda loved cruising, camping and traveling. She was also a former official at Flemington Speedway and was a scorekeeper for several softball teams. Additionally, she was a longtime member of the Flemington United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her husband of thirty years, Steven Walker; her parents, Arthur A. and Evelyn Berstler Reed of Flemington, NJ; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Karen and Matthew Clark of Limestone, TN, and Bonnie and Mark Hanna of Flemington, NJ; her father-in-law, Earl Walker of Hampton, NJ, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 12, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery, Lebanon, NJ. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 5:00 - 9:00 p.m. in the Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Oncology Special Needs Fund at Hunterdon Medical Center Foundation, 2100 Wescott Drive, Flemington, NJ 08822.

Melody Ann Young

RARITAN TOWNSHIP, NJ - Melody Ann Young, age 52 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died on Friday, April 6, 2012 at her home.

Born in Raritan Township, NJ, November 11, 1959, daughter of the late Milton and Charlotte Atwood Young, she had resided in Raritan Township for the last 52 years.

She was a farm hand at Kleinhans Farm, Flemington, NJ and also was a long time waitress at the Amwell Valley Diner and TA Truck Stop, Bloomsbury, NJ.

She was pre-deceased by her sisters Charlotte Kathy Haines and Dorothy Ann Young.

Surviving are two sons, Russell and Scott Marion both of Flemington, NJ; a daughter and son-in-law, Ashley and Glen Umana of Flemington, NJ; a daughter and her fiancée Renee McWhorter and Giovanni Chaves of Flemington, NJ; one sister, Sandra Lee Schuster of South Bound Brook, NJ; one brother, Milton Howard Young of Lebanon, NJ; ten grandchildren; and her longtime companion, Ollie Phillips.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will follow in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, East Amwell Township, NJ. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 1:00-2:00 p.m. in the Funeral Home.

Mary Elizabeth Sheppard

LAMBERTVILLE, NJ - Mary Elizabeth Sheppard, age 67 years, of Lambertville, NJ, died Friday, April 13, 2012, in the Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ.

Born in Somerville, NJ, June 18, 1944, daughter of the late Hiram Case and the late Jean Hutchinson Preckwinkle, she had formerly resided in Ringoes, NJ and in Flemington, NJ before moving to Lambertville in 1989.

A l962 graduate of Hunterdon Central Regional High School and of Trenton State College (now the College of New Jersey) with a degree in Education and Mathmatics, she was Clerk of East Amwell Township for fifteen years and then was City Clerk of Lambertville for sixteen years, retiring in 2006.

Active in community organizations for many years, she was a former trustee of the Hunterdon County Historical Society; member of the Amwell Valley Fire Co. Auxiliary of Ringoes, NJ; Trustee of the Lower Amwell cemetery Association of Delaware Township, NJ; former Secretary of the Amwell Valley Fire Commission; member of the Holcombe-Jimison Farmstead and also of Old Rocks Church of West Amwell Township, NJ.

Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, David and Jane Sheppard of Washington, ME. and Thomas Sheppard of Ringoes, NJ; and four sisters, Barbara Brannan and Patricia McKelvey, both of Bastrop, Texas, Nancy Zakrzewski of Harwich, MA. and Linda Case of Oxford, Ct.

A Memorial Gathering will be held Saturday, June 9, 2012, 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM at Amwell Valley Fire House, Ringoes, NJ. Arrangements are under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Memorial contributions may be made to Hunterdon County Historical Society, 114 Main Street, Flemington, NJ 08822 or Amwell Valley Fire Co., PO Box 50, Ringoes, NJ 08551.

John H. Brownell

READINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ - John H. Brownell, age 79 years, of Readington Township, NJ, died on Friday, April 27, 2012 at his home.

Born in Bristol, NY, November 26, 1932, son of the late Reginald and Josephine Dunlop Brownell, he had resided in Readington since 1960, having formerly lived in Reaville, NJ.

He was a service technician for thirty-eight years with Elizabethtown Gas, Flemington, NJ, retiring in 1994.

A United States Air Force veteran of the Korean War, stationed in Germany, he was a longtime member of the Flemington United Methodist Church and a member of the Flemington American Legion Post #159. Additionally, he was a former Cub Scout and 4-H Club leader.

Surviving are his wife of fifty-seven years, Aletha Stone Brownell; two sons, John B. Brownell and his wife, Shujuan Liu, of Plainfield, NJ and Jeff Brownell and his wife, Lisa, of Riegelsville, PA; a daughter, Sandra Hubert of Crystal Beach, NY; a daughter-in-law, Ginger Brownell of Flemington, NJ; a sister, Ruth Crouse of Shortsville, NY; and six grandchildren, Casey, Samantha, Sidni and Savannah Brownell, Nicole Hubert and Robert Hubert.

Funeral Services and Interment in Newell Cemetery, Stanton, NJ will be private under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.

Memorial contributions made be made to Hunterdon Hospice, 2100 Wescott Drive, Flemington, NJ 08822 or to the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater New Jersey, 400 Morris Avenue, Suite 251, Denville, NJ 07834.

John Ross Emann

DELAWARE TOWNSHIP, NJ - John R. Emann, age 76 years, of Delaware Township, NJ, died on Sunday, April 15, 2012, in the Green Knoll Care Center, Bridgewater, NJ.

Born in Princeton, NJ, December 30, 1935, he was the son of the late Harry and Claire MacClune Emann.

He was formerly a draftsman, and then owned and operated the Flemington Pet Store and then Guaranteed Janitorial Service.

Surviving are his wife of fifty-seven years, Harriet Powner Emann; two sons and daughters-in-law, John Clark and Linda Emann of Hellertown, PA and Kipp Allen and Sherry Emann of Hellertown, PA; two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna Lee and Michael Hatcher of Center Hill, FL and Mary Jo and Skip Opdyke of Delaware Township, NJ; eleven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services and interment will be private under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave., 7th fl., New York, NY 10001.
