Robert F. Pickell

FLEMINGTON, NJ - Robert F. Pickell, age 78 years, of Flemington, NJ, died Tuesday, October 9, 2012, in The Pavilion at Forrestal, Princeton, NJ.

Born in Trenton, NJ, April 10, 1934, son of the late Jacob Pickell and Helen Wyckoff Pickell Olenick, he had resided in the Flemington area all his life except for ten years in Florida before returning to Flemington in 2000.

He was a well-known, successful race car driver, especially stock cars, and won countless races during his racing career. He also raced in the Daytona 500. He was inducted into the Flemington Speedway Hall of Fame and also the Garden State Hall of Fame.

For many years, he owned and operated Flemington Glass Co., retiring twenty-five years ago.

Surviving are his wife, Connie Ploski Pickell; a son, Robert L. Pickell of New Egypt, NJ; a daughter, Brenda Pickell of Norfolk, VA; his former wife, Carol Higgins of Norfolk, VA; four brothers, William Pickell of Branchville, NJ, Jack Pickell of Farmville, VA, Paul Olenick of High Bridge, NJ, and Charles Olenick of Atlanta, GA; two step-daughters, Renee Melbourn of Chicago, IL and Deanna Cadic of Flemington, NJ; four grandchildren, Nicholas Pickell, Jessica Schnitzler, Brittany Hensley and Eric Melbourn, and one great grandchild, Mya Schnitzler.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 13, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ followed by interment in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Flemington, NJ. Calling hours will be Friday from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. in the Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation, 322 Eighth Avenue, 7th Floor, NY, NY 10001 or the charity of one's choice.

Howard C. Hope

WEST AMWELL TOWNSHIP, NJ - Howard C. Hope, age 71 years, of West Amwell Township, NJ, died Thursday, October 11, 2012, in the Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ.

Born in Phillipsburg, NJ, May 4, 1941, son of the late Howard W. and Marion Cline Hope, he had resided in West Amwell Township thirty-five years and had formerly resided in Lambertville, NJ.

He was a self-employed landscaper and was formerly a member of the Wesleyan Church, Lambertville, NJ.

He was pre-deceased by a grandson, Nicholas Hope.

Surviving are his wife of forty-nine years, Lynda Pyatt Hope; a son, Howard D. Hope of Quakertown, NJ; two daughters, Cynthia Lynn Niemiec of Kingwood Township, NJ, and Angela Joy Williams of West Amwell Township, NJ; and six grandchildren, Skyler Panella, Clayton Hope, Matthew Williams, Andrew Williams, Joshua Niemiec and Daniel Niemiec.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at 10 AM in Old Rocks Church, Mt.Airy-Harbourton Road, West Amwell Township, NJ under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will be private. There will be no calling hours.

Joan Hann

FRENCHTOWN, NJ - Joan Hann, age 68 years, of Frenchtown, NJ, died on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at her home.

Born in Somerville, NJ, February 6, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Vernon and Irene Smalley.

She was a presser for Tirpok Cleaners.

Surviving are her son and his fiance, Jim Hann and Teressa Defranco.

Private graveside services will be held on Friday in Frenchtown Cemetery, Frenchtown, NJ under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.

Rufus G. "Bud" Adams

FLEMINGTON, NJ - Rufus G. "Bud" Adams, age 82 years, of Flemington, NJ, died on Friday, October 19, 2012 at his home.

Born in Balcom, IL, March 5, 1930, he was the son of the late Elmer and Lulu Nelson Adams.

He was a veteran of the United States Army serving from 1948 to 1952.

Bud retired as Chief of Security from the New Jersey Water Authority in 1992. He had formerly been employed at the Old Egg Auction Market, Flemington, NJ. He served many years as a correctional officer at Annandale Reformatory and was a police officer for the Town of Clinton and as a Special for the Flemington Police Department. He later worked as security with the Flemington Fairgrounds and as a Court Officer in Flemington Borough and Raritan Township, NJ. He also worked for the Flemington Street Department.

He was a member of the Flemington Fire Department and the Exempt Fireman's Association. He was an avid bowler, softball player, and hunter.

He was pre-deceased by a son, Ricky, in 1976, and by three brothers: Elmer, Robert, and Ray Adams. Surviving are his wife of sixty-one years, Doris Cottrell Adams; a daughter and son-in-law, Carol Adams and Joseph Hemphill of Midland, MI; a son, Bob Adams, of Holland Township, NJ; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda Jo and Joseph Olivo of Flemington, NJ; and two grandchildren: Christopher and Jenny Adams.

Funeral Services will take place Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ followed by interment in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Capner Street, Flemington, NJ. Calling hours will be Monday from 6:00-9:00 p.m. in the Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Flemington Fire Department, 38 Park Avenue, Flemington, NJ 08822 or to the Flemington-Raritan First Aid & Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 686, Flemington, NJ 08822.

James Joseph Gregory, Jr.

UNION, NJ - James Joseph Gregory, Jr., died on Friday, October 19, 2012 in the Hunterdon Care Center, Raritan Township, NJ.

Born in Newark, NJ, June 20, 1935, he was the son of James Joseph and Mae McCarl Gregory.

He was a retired truck driver and United States Navy veteran of the Korean War.

Surviving are his two daughters, Kathryn Gregory of New York, NY and Jody Lynn Snyder of Hillsborough, NJ.

Funeral services and interment will be private under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.

Florence Berling Stumfoll

LEBANON, NJ - Florence Berling Stumfoll, a former long time resident of Springfield, died on September 24, 2012 at the age of 95 at Rolling Hills Care Center, Lebanon, NJ. She had previously been a resident of Arbor Glen Continuing Care Retirement Community in Bridgewater. She is predeceased by her husband William A. Stumfoll after 41 years of marriage and loving brother Randolph.

She was the devoted mother of Jack Sharp and his wife Patrice of NJ and the grandmother of Douglas Sharp and his wife Monica of NJ, Brian Sharp and his wife Carrie of NC, the proud great grandmother of Benjamin and Stephanie Sharp of NJ and Fiona and Lila Sharp of NC.

She was a dedicated employee serving as an Administrative Secretary at Keyes Martin Advertising Agency in Springfield, NJ and a Legal Secretary at the George N. Foster Law Office in Union, NJ. She was a member of the Berkeley Heights Area Business and Professional Women's Club where she served as recording secretary. She enjoyed singing and was a member of the Arbor Glen Singers.

She was always on the go. She liked being with family, travelling and fine dining and had taken several Caribbean cruises. She took great pride in her decorating ability and excellent taste in clothing and fashion, being very attentive to personal appearance. She will always be remembered for her trade-mark hair style. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Friends will be received at the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ on Friday, September 28, 2012 from 10:00-10:45 a.m. where a Prayer Service will be held at 10:45 a.m. Interment will follow privately in Fairview Cemetery, Westfield, NJ. The family appreciates anyone who wishes to send anything in Mrs. Stumfoll's memory, however they respectfully request that no floral arrangements be sent.

Helen Stockton Marauda

DOWINGTOWN, PA (FORMERLY LIFELONG HUNTERDON COUNTY RESIDENT) - Helen Stockton Marauda went home to be with her Lord and Savior on September 25, 2012. She was the wife of the late Marcel Marauda and daughter of the late Marvin and Ida (Yorks) Stockton. Helen was affectionately known as 'Nanny', 'Mom', but most of all, 'friend'.

'Born and raised in Hunterdon County' as she liked to say, Helen was born on March 22nd, 1919 in Readington Township. She went on to graduate from Kearny High School in 1938 and worked for the Dural Rubber Company as their personnel manager and then for George Zanetti & Sons, Inc. as their office manager for over twenty-five years.

Throughout her years, Helen loved and served her family, friends and community. Her lifelong motto was to 'treat others as I would want to be treated.' Helen did just that by volunteering and often leading many local organizations. She was active in the Flemington VFW, President of the Ladies Auxiliary 7586 and was passionate about honoring her country and veterans by daily flying her beloved American flag. Helen was instrumental in starting the Flemington Rescue Squad, serving as their first secretary, and was in the first graduating class of nurses' aides when the Hunterdon Medical Center opened in 1953. She also volunteered for the American Red Cross, Franklin Township PTA, and Hunterdon County Health Services. Along the way she met and made many lifelong friends, had a special gift for encouraging others and was known for her smile.

Helen was a faithful member of Amwell Church of the Brethren in Sandbrook and regularly made the trip back to Hunterdon County to visit her many friends even after moving to be closer to her daughter in Downingtown, Pennsylvania in 2002. She was especially close to the Cervenka family, owners of Cervenka Farms on Klinesville Road. Even in Pennsylvania, however, she continued to love and serve others by volunteering with Meals on Wheels and the Lord's Pantry.

Helen was the beloved mother of two daughters, Sherie and Jane and five grandchildren. Sherie and her husband Anthony (Chip) Gazzerro and granddaughters Madeline and Emilie reside in Downingtown, Pennsylvania. Jane and her husband David and three grandchildren Samantha, Michael (Micah) and Daniel Van Camp reside in Lakeland, Florida. Helen was predeceased by her brother, Fred Stockton and his wife Betty of Flemington, NJ.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, October 1, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Graveside services will follow at Locust Grove Cemetery, Quakertown, NJ. Calling hours will be Sunday, September 30, 2012 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
