Margaret Havens
Spring Lake resident Margaret A. “Peggy” Lane Havens died on Sunday, Aug. 17 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, ending her battle with cancer.

She was 69 years old.

She was retired from Sonetronics, Belmar, in 2002. Mrs. Havens was born Feb. 16, 1939 in Neptune. She was a lifelong Shore area resident, residing in Spring Lake for the last 35 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin E. Havens Sr.; her parents, Floyd E. Lane Sr. and Edna V. Lane; and a brother, Floyd E. Lane Jr.

Surviving are a son, Franklin E. Havens Jr., of Spring Lake, NJ; two daughters, Sharon L. Eldridge, of Howell and Donna L. Havens, of Spring Lake; two sisters, Dolores V. Lane, of Spring Lake, and Mildred C. Applegate, of Spring Lake; a brother, Walter W. Lane, of Pennsylvania; a sister-in-law, Carol F. Rathgeber; and five grandchildren, JT, Edward, Sean, Brian and Nicole.

A funeral service will be held today, Thursday, Aug. 21, at 10 a.m. at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Highway 35 at New Bedford Road, Wall. Burial will follow in Hamilton Cemetery, Neptune.

Alice Henry
Wall resident Alice Connett Henry died peacefully on Monday, Aug. 18 surrounded by loved ones at home after a long illness.

She was 87 years old.

Born in West Paterson, she lived in Little Ferry while her husband was overseas during World War II. On his return they lived in Hasbrouck Heights, Montrose, Pa., and Glen Rock, before retiring to Whiting.

She was predeceased by her parents, Edward Connett and Jessie Stewart Connett; her beloved husband, Richard Henry in 1995; a brother, Edward Connett; and her sister, Jessie Richards.

Mrs. Henry a loving and devoted mother is survived by her children, Patricia Pasciuto, of Wall, John Henry and his wife Eileen, of Oxnard, Calif., Edward Henry and his wife Connie, of Robesonia, Pa.; nine very special grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and four great -great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on today from 6-9 p.m. at the Johnson-McGinley Funeral Home, 2652 Highway 138, Wall Township, just prior to the Route 18 north entrance. On Friday, funeral services will be offered at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Brian Eble of the First United Methodist Church of Oakhurst presiding. Interment to follow at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown.

Louise Draycott
Manasquan resident Louise L. “Susie” Laird Draycott died on Saturday, Aug. 16 at St. Mary’s Catholic Home, Cherry Hill.

She was 91 years old.

Born in Spring Lake, she had lived in Manasquan since the age of 6 years old. She had completed her formal education through the Manasquan School System.

Louise was a lifelong member of the Manasquan First United Methodist Church, had been a member of the Choir since eighth grade and a lifelong member of the Fellowship Society of the Church.

She was predeceased by her parents, Benjamin and Katherine Houlihan Laird; and by her husband, William G. Draycott, in December 2001, the same year they had celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

She is survived by her daughter, AnnMarie E. Draycott and her husband Phil Doherty, of Philadelphia; and her three grandchildren, Maris, Ava and Tristan.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service today, Aug. 21, at 10 a.m. in AtlanticView Cemetery, Manasquan. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to Manasquan First United Methodist, Church and South Sts., Manasquan, 08736, in her memory.

Arrangements are under the direction of the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall Township.

Stella Wojton
Manasquan resident Stella Wojton died on Saturday, Aug. 16 at home with her family close by her side.

She was 88 years old.

Born and raised in Elizabeth, where she lived for 68 years, Stella returned to school and earned her diploma all while caring for and nurturing her family. She was employed as chief clerk at Elizabeth City Hall where she remained for almost 30 years. While living in Elizabeth, Stella was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church, and was president of the Rosary Altar Society. After moving to Manasquan in 1988, Stella became a communicant of St. Denis Church as well as a member of the St. Denis Seniors and the Senior Citizens of Manasquan. As an avid Jets fan, Stella proudly donned her green and white and eagerly cheered for her team. Although she loved her sports and trips to Atlantic City, her family was always her number one priority, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Stella was truly the matriarch of her family and became overwhelmed with joy and pride when everyone gathered together.

Stella was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Walter “Whitey” Wojton, in 1998; a brother, Stanley Rogowski; and a sister, Mary Ann Rogowski. She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Jo Ann Korb and Frances and Robert Gorski; a sister, Ann Laskowski; four grandchildren and their spouses, Jenny and Paul Greenjack, Missy and Pete Snyder, Valerie and CJ McCourt and Douglas and Erika Korb; four great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Mary, Anna and Stella; and a lifelong friend Stanley “Bura” Boruszkowski.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, Aug. 23 9:30 a.m. at St. Margaret’s Church, Spring Lake. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Linden. The family kindly requests no flowers please. Memorial donations can be made to Visiting Nurses Association of Central Jersey Hospice, 1100 Wayside Road, Tinton Falls, 07712.

Marie L. Gillick
Spring Lake resident Marie Louise Gillick died on Aug. 8 at Care One of Wall.

She was 69 years old.

Born in Elizabeth, she worked for the Veri Typer Company in Elizabeth in the accounting department for many years. Following her retirement in 1977, Mrs. Gillick moved to Spring Lake.

The daughter of the late Max Zimmerman and Margaret Warnock Zimmerman, Mrs. Gillick was predeceased by her beloved husband, John Charles Gillick, in 1976.

Surviving is her loving son, John Gillick, of Ocean Township.

Donations in memory of Mrs. Gillick can be made to the Spring Lake Volunteer First Aid Squad, 309 Washington Ave., Spring Lake, 07762. Notes of condolence can be e-mailed to the family at jmfh2652@aol.com.

Richard Kenny Sr.
Wall resident Richard J. Kenny Sr. died on Aug. 18 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, in Neptune.

He was 84 years old.

He was born on Feb. 28, 1924 in Newark to Thomas and Marjorie McElroy Kenny. He was a 1941 graduate of Seton Hall Prep, served proudly in the U.S. Army during World War II and went on to graduate from Seton Hall University in 1947. Mr. Kenny was employed with New Jersey Bell for 36 years, retiring in 1983 as legal department manager, and was a member of the NJ Bell Telephone Pioneers.

He was a resident of Verona for 33, where he was a parish member of Our Lady of Lake Church, past president of the Verona Lions Club and manager and president of Verona Little League. He came to Wall in 1986, where he enjoyed many hours of golf, bridge and spending time at the Spring Lake beach with his family and friends. He was also a parish member of St. Catharine’s Church in Spring Lake.

He was predeceased by his parents; his sisters, Marjorie Cirignano and Elizabeth Irvin; his nephew, Frank Irvin; his infant grandson, James Fallon Kenny; and his son-in-law, Robert H. Dumas.

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Regina “Jean” Jamieson Kenny; sons, Richard Joseph Jr. and his wife Mary, of Rhode Island, and James Kenny, of Hong Kong; his daughters, Suzanne K. Dumas, of Clinton, Kathleen Woodward and her husband, William, of Virginia, Maureen Savidge and her husband Roger, of Brick, and Christine Aquino and her husband Nilton; his grandchildren, Megan, Ryan, Brendan, Ian and Katharine Kenny, Jennine Dumas, Bryan and Melissa Woodward, Andrew Morra, Anthony Aquino; and his brother, Rev. Thomas A. Kenny, of Barnegat.

Visiting will be held today from 4-8 p.m. at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Highway 35 at New Bedford Road, Wall. A Mass will be held at St. Catharine’s Church, Spring Lake, on Friday at 11 a.m. followed by burial at St. Anne’s Cemetery, in Wall.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association, 1600 U.S. Highway 22, Union, 07083.

Carl Pierce
Lakewood resident Carl Clifford Pierce died peacefully on Saturday, Aug. 16 at the Paul Kimball Hospital, Lakewood, surrounded by his loving family. Born in West Belmar, he remained a lifelong resident of the Shore area.

He was 88 years old.

A member of the 1939 graduating class of Manasquan High School, Mr. Pierce served in the U.S. Navy during World War II where he was awarded the American Theatre Medal, The Asiatic Pacific Medal, and the Victory Medal.

Following his discharge he started his own business, Carl Pierce Custom Builder of Belmar building many quality homes in the Shore area. He was also a life member of the Wall Township Lions Club.

Mr. Pierce was predeceased by his beloved wife, Patricia; and son, Bruce.

Surviving are his children, Gail Mills and her husband Al, of Florida, his daughter in-law Elizabeth Pierce, of Florida, and Carl Chetwood, of Lakewood; his grandchildren, Harry and Lin Mills, of Toms River, Vicki and Howard Meyer, of Bayville, Lisa Mills, of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., Meredith and Josh Wozniak, of Florida, 1st Lt. Clinton Pierce and his wife Heidi, of Virginia, and Brandon Pierce, of Florida.; and his great-grandchildren, Monica Vaughan, of Bayville, Kyle Mills, of Toms River, and Emma and Ella Wozniak, of Florida.

Interment was held at Monmouth Memorial Park, Route 33, West Tinton Falls.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mr. Pierce can be made to the American Cancer Society, 1035 Hooper Ave., Toms River, 08753.

Johnson-McGinley Funeral Home, Wall, was in charge of the arrangements.

Erik B. Andersen, P.E.
Sea Girt resident Erik B. Andersen died on Wednesday, Aug. 13 at his home.

He was 74 years old.

Mr. Andersen was born in Manhattan and lived in Maplewood before moving to Sea Girt in 1980.

Erik met his wife Abby in Maplewood Junior High School, and they have been married for 51 years. He was a graduate of Columbia High School and Stevens Institute of Technology, where he earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in engineering.

Erik, who spent most of his career in the air conditioning industry, was employed as a facility management engineer with the Worthington Corp., East Orange, where he developed two patents.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Germany. Erik loved the beach and was known by many as an avid body surfer.

Surviving are his wife, Abigail Miller Andersen; his children, Jeane Baum and her husband Robert Jr., of Howell, Chris Andersen, of Wall, and Ellen Criscuolo and her husband John, of Point Pleasant; his brother, Nils Andersen, of Florida; and eight grandchildren, Robert III, Kristen, Derek, Rachael, Abby, Erika, Christopher and Tyler.

Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan, was in charge of arrangements.

Marion Carmody
Spring Lake resident Marion O’Neill Carmody died peacefully at home on Aug. 13.

She was 88 years old.

Born March 11, 1920 in New York City, Marion was raised in Jersey City. She attended Sacred Heart Grammar School and graduated from St. Aloysius High School in Jersey City. She then worked for Westinghouse, Inc. She married her husband Jack, and they lived in Cranford before moving to Spring Lake in 1957. In the late 1960s, Marion owned and operated Alexander’s Book Store on Third Avenue in Spring Lake. She later worked as a secretary at Plasti-Clad Products in Wall until her retirement. Mrs. Carmody was a parishioner of St. Catharine’s Roman Catholic Church, Spring Lake.

Marion, the mother of 11, was predeceased by her husband, John A., in 1967; her daughter, Mary, in 1982; and her brother, Frank O’Neill.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, John and Joan Carmody, of Golden, Colo., Suzanne Carmody, of New York City, James Carmody, of Spring Lake, William and Barbara Carmody, of Wilmette, Ill., Denise and Richard Ratliff, of Sea Girt, Cathleen and Thomas Masterson, of Sea Girt, Frank and Ellen Carmody, of Spring Lake, Edward and Nanci Carmody, of Spring Lake Heights, Margaret and Michael Sheehan, of Red Bank, and Ann Marie and Kevin Callahan, of Spring Lake. In addition, she leaves her 21 grandchildren, John and Alice Carmody, Kerry and Jeff Jerrier, Michelle and Matthew Baughman, Michael and Edward Carmody, Mary, Jordan, and Anastasia Ratliff, Sarah, Beth and Jack Masterson, Nicole and Mike Miller, Rory and Kelly Carmody, Olivia and Kate Carmody, Kara, Jack and Meredith Sheehan, and Kevin and Julia Callahan; and seven great-grandchildren, Kate, Ellie, Grace and Jack Jerrier, Maggie and Audrey Baughman, and Reese Miller. She also leaves her dear cousin, Ann Marie and Donald Halpin; and her sisters-in-law, Aurea O'Neill and Jean Carmody.

Mima will always be loved and remembered for her kindness to all. The family would also like to especially thank all her wonderful caregivers.

Burial was held at St. Catharine’s Cemetery, Wall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sisters Academy Campaign/The Mercy Center, 1106 Main St., Asbury Park, 07712.

O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall, was in charge of the arrangements.
