Anna Kohler Snyder
Point Pleasant Beach resident Anna Kohler Snyder died Sunday, July 27, in Ocean Medical Center, Brick.

She was 97 years old.

She was a homemaker. She was born in Newark. After she remarried William “Clem” Snyder in 1968, she moved to Colts Neck and lived there for 17 years, moved to Irvington, then lived in Point Pleasant and moved back to Point Pleasant Beach 15 years ago.

She did quilting for St. Peter’s Church, Point Pleasant Beach.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Clifford Snyder, in 1965; and was also predeceased by her second husband, William “Clem” Snyder.

Surviving are a son, Dennis Hoffman, of Point Pleasant; a daughter, Joan Kolba, of Port Charlotte, Fla.; three grandchildren, John, Scott and Glenn; a stepgranddaughter, Diane; three great-grandchildren, Caitlyn, Julianna and Joshua; and three stepgreat-grandchildren, Kayla, Aaron and Cassidy.

The Van Hise & Callagan Funeral Home, Point Pleasant Beach was in charge of arrangements. Interment will be private.

Joseph T. Whittles
Juniper Fla. resident Joseph T. Whittles, whose, son resides in Point Pleasant, died Thursday, July 24, in Jupiter Medical Center in Florida.

He was 82 years old.

Mr. Whittles was born in East Newark in 1926 to Frederick and Catherine Meehan Whittles.

He served as a firefighter in Kearny for 26 years and then retired to Florida. He was a member of the Elks Lodge 1050, Kearny, and a lifetime member of the Kearny Fire Department Exempt Fireman’s Association.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Frank and Frederick.

Joseph is survived by his children, Joseph and his wife, Donna, of North Arlington, Michael and his wife, Martha, of Point Pleasant, William and his wife, Jill, of Galloway, Kevin, of Kearny, Patricia Thompson and her husband, Gary, of Clifton, Mary Ellen, of Kearny, Maureen, of Madison Heights, Va., and Thomas and his wife, Debra, of Clifton; a brother, James and his wife, Marion, of Fenwick Island, Del.; a niece, Janet Strand and her husband, Chris, of Tequesta, Fla.; a nephew, Bob and his wife, Margie, of Stuart, Fla.; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

T. Reid Home for Funerals, Kearny, was in charge of the arrangements. Interment will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to Kearny Fire Dept Local 18 Relief Fund, St Jude Children’s Hospital, Memphis, TN., or St. Joseph’s Indian School, Chamberland, SD.

Lenore Scott Picerno
Point Pleasant Beach resident Lenore Scott Picerno died Wednesday, July 23, in her home.

He was 69 years old.

Before retiring, Lenore was a saleswoman with Stern’s Department Store and Jenkinson’s Gift Shop in Point Pleasant Beach.

She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Visitation Roman Catholic Church, Paramus.

Mrs. Picerno was predeceased by her son, Matthew Picerno; and her father, David Scott.

Surviving are her husband, Matthew Picerno; a son, Michael Picerno and his wife, Dineen, of Paramus; a daughter, Lorrayne Picerno, of Paramus; her mother, Evelyn Scott, of Point Pleasant Beach; and four grandchildren, Christopher, Justin, Jonathan and Anthony.

The Vander Plaat Memorial Home, Paramus, handled the arrangements. Interment took place in George Washington Memorial Park. For further information, visit www.vanderplaat.com.

Doris Smith
Point Pleasant resident Doris Smith died Thursday, July 24 in her home.

She was 74 years old.

She was an au pair for the Rogers family in Point Pleasant for several generations.

Born in Philadelphia, she lived in Camden and Philadelphia before moving to Point Pleasant 25 years ago. She was a member of the Greater Bethel Church of God in Christ, Lakewood.

Surviving are a son, Gregory Smith, of Camden; two daughters, Anita Smith Foster, of Camden, and Theresa Daniels, of Philadelphia; a sister, Marie Larry, of Philadelphia; her extended family, Susan Rogers, John Rogers and Mort Rogers, all of Point Pleasant, and Allyson Rogers-Stetter, of Florida; 14 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Colonial Funeral Home, Brick was in charge of arrangements.

May T. Villano Pagano
Lavallette resident May T. Villano Pagano died Thursday, July 24.

She was 84 years old.

Born in Jersey City, May moved to Harrison then Lavallette in 1982. She was an employee of Prudential Insurance Co., Newark.

May was a member of St. Bonaventure Roman Catholic Church, Lavallette, and its Rosary Society. She was a member of the Seniors of Lavallette Club, the Deborah Tradewinds Chapter, and the Democratic Club of Lavallette.

She was predeceased by her husband, Vincent, in 1982.

She is survived by her son, Vincent and his wife, Annette, of Medford; her daughter, Debbie and her husband, John Storck, of Toms River; and four grandchildren, Mark, Marisa, Kimberly and Lauren.

The Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, Toms River, was in charge of arrangements. Entombment took place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Toms River.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Robert Wesley Kapp, M.D.
Mantoloking resident Robert Wesley Kapp, M.D. died Sunday, July 27, in Ocean Medical Center, Brick.

Born in Tidioute, Pa., he practiced medicine in Lakewood, Ohio, from 1952 to 1982.

He received his bachelor’s degree from Syracuse University in 1940; his medical degree from McGill University Faculty of Medicine in 1943; and his MMS in surgery from New York Medical College in 1946.

He was named diplomat of the American Board of Surgery in 1954 and fellow of the American College of Surgeons in 1957. He had a private practice in general surgery in Lakewood, Ohio, from 1952 to 1982. He was chief resident in surgery at Lakewood Hospital, Lakewood, Ohio, from 1948 to 1949; chief of surgery from 1961 to 1963; president of the medical staff from 1963 to 1965; assistant professor of surgery at Case Western Reserve, Cleveland, from 1975 to 1984; and medical volunteer in the surgical suite at Lakewood Hospital from 1984 to 1986.

He retired to Mantoloking in 1986, where he also volunteered at Point Pleasant Hospital until 1995.

He was recognized by the Lakewood Hospital Foundation at a special award banquet in his honor for his contributions to Lakewood Hospital in November 1998.

He interned at the U.S. Naval Hospital, Sampson, N.Y., in September 1944. He was assigned to the USS Oneida, APA 221, as the Beach Battalion medical officer in the Pacific Theater from October 1944 to November 1945. He served at the U.S. Naval Hospital, Palm Beach, Fla.

He is survived by his wife, Renee Leman Strickland, whom he married Nov. 27, 1943; two sons, Robert Wesley Kapp Jr., Ph.D., and Gregory Peter Kapp; a daughter, Claudia Renee Kapp Horn; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The Van Hise & Callagan Funeral Home, Point Pleasant Beach was in charge of arrangements. Cremation will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Bay Head, or to Lakewood Hospital Foundation, Lakewood, Ohio.

Laurie I. Nichols
Brick resident Laurie I. Nichols, formerly of Point Pleasant, died Sunday, Aug. 3 in her mother’s home in Brick.

She was 52 years old.

She was born in Newark and lived in Point Pleasant before moving to Brick over 10 years ago.

She recently received her master’s degree from Georgian Court University in Lakewood. She was employed as a registered nurse for over 32 years, most recently by St. Peter’s University Hospital in New Brunswick.

She is survived by her son, Andrew T. Nichols, of Brick; her partner, Shari L. Kondrup, of Brick; her mother, Jean Nichols, of Brick; and by her brother, Thomas S. Nichols of Point Pleasant.

Friends and family may call on Friday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, 9 to 11 a.m. at O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Road, at Highway 70, Brick. A celebration of life will be he on Saturday, 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment is private.

Robert Post
Essex Fells and Point Pleasant resident Robert Post died Sunday, Aug. 3 near his summer home, the victim of a tragic boating accident.

He was 49 years old.

Born in Montclair, and a lifelong resident of Essex Fells, Mr. Post attended Essex Fells Primary School and graduated from Montclair Kimberley Academy and later from Colgate University in 1981 with a bachelor of arts degree in geology. He received his MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth in 1985.

Mr. Post worked his entire career on Wall Street, including 16 years at J.P. Morgan & Co., where he was a managing director then later as a senior managing director at Bear, Stearns & Co. Most recently, he was a senior vice president of Mizuho Corporate Bank, USA, in New York.

Mr. Post was an active outdoorsman with a great love of golf, skiing, boating, and tennis. At Colgate, he was a competitive swimmer where he established several pool records and was elected team captain. After college he swam in various Masters competitions.

Throughout his life, he was an enthusiastic skier and a frequent visitor to Mad River Glen in Vermont. An accomplished golfer and avid tennis player, Mr. Post was a member of Montclair Golf Club, Essex Fells Country Club and Bay Head Yacht Club. Mr. Post was an active boater from early boyhood along the entire Atlantic Coast and held a commercial captain’s license.

He was also involved with numerous organizations. Mr. Post served on the alumni council at Montclair Kimberley Academy and several alumni committees at Colgate University, where a scholarship is established in his name. Mr. Post was also involved with several charitable organizations, notably Cystic Fibrosis.

The Post family are longtime parishioners of First Presbyterian Church in Caldwell.

With great spirit and enthusiasm and his wonderful sense of humor, Bob was a friend to countless others in his many circles. His infectious smile and his love of life will be missed by all who knew him. He was a devoted husband and loving father.

He was predeceased by his brother, John Jeffrey Post.

Bob is survived by his wife Bonnie; sons Robert Jr., 19, a student at Colby College, and John, 12; his parents, Richard and Helen Post, of Vero Beach, Fla.; and his sisters, Elizabeth Cundari of Verona, and Susan Schlachtenhaufen, of Lake Forest, Ill. He also leaves eleven nieces and nephews who adored him.

Memorial services for Mr. Post will be held on Saturday, Aug, 9 at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 326 Bloomfield Ave., Caldwell. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Dancy Funeral Home, Caldwell.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 6931 Arlington Road, Bethesda, MD 20814 and Montclair Kimberley Academy, 201 Valley Road, Montclair, 07042.
