Krisoula Robus
Point Pleasant Beach resident Krisoula Robus died Wednesday, May 28, in her home.

She was 80 years old.

Born in Manhattan, Kris resided in Brooklyn, N.Y. before moving to Point Pleasant Beach 25 years ago.

She was a secretary for SES Parochial School, Brooklyn from 1977 until her retirement in 1983. Previously, she had been a bookkeeper for many years with different companies in Manhattan, including Otis Elevator Company.

She was a member of St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church, Toms River, a Girl Scout leader, Sunday school teacher, a church volunteer, a volunteer at Deborah Hospital, a member of the Point Pleasant Beach Republican Club, and the Point Pleasant Beach Beautification Committee.

Not only was Kris an avid N.Y. Jets fan, she was a season ticket holder since 1965.

She was predeceased by her sister, Katherine “Kitty” Robus, on May 16, 2008.

Surviving are her devoted nephew, Anthony Vurlumis and his wife, Zoe; her caretaker and friend, Renee Boyd; her godchildren, Pamela Yarrington, Deborah Ledford, Jim Swolakis, Pfc. Jason S. Lee, Christopher Price and Meghan Price; and her cousins, Sophia Boyd, Theresa Boyd, and Madeline Knight.

The Silverton Memorial Funeral Home, Toms River, was in charge of arrangements. Burial took place in Ocean County Memorial Park, Toms River.

J. Morgan Macom Jr., D.D.S.
Bay Head resident J. Morgan Macom Jr., D.D.S. died Sunday, June 1, in Ocean Medical Center, Brick.

He was 78 years old.

Raised in New Brunswick, he graduated from Rutgers University and the New York University School of Dentistry.

Following his honorable service as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, he practiced as an orthodontist for over 30 years in New Brunswick. He and his family lived in Bridgewater and summered in Bay Head before moving there in 1986.

Dr. Macom was a member of the American Association of Orthodontists and the American Board of Orthodontics and served as a former president of the Middlesex County Dental Society.

He was a talented artist and a member of the New Jersey Watercolor Society. He was an active member and former trustee of the Bay Head Yacht Club, where he could always be found on the tennis courts. As an accomplished tennis player and member of the United States Tennis Association, he achieved a national ranking in both singles and doubles in his age group.

He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, Bay Head, and served there as a Eucharistic Minister. His other interests included travel, photography, astronomy and genealogy.

He will be remembered fondly as a loving husband, father, grandfather and a true friend to all who knew him.

He was predeceased by his parents, John Morgan Macom and Claire Schenck Macom; his wife, Mary Louise Campbell Macom; and his sister, Diane C. Mullen.

Surviving are his sister, Marcia O’Connor, of Merion Station, Pa.; two daughters, Amy M. West, of Shrewsbury, and Holly C. McIntyre, of Little Silver; three sons, John M. Macom III, of Douglaston, N.Y., William C. Macom, of Melbourne, Fla., and Timothy P. Macom, of Toms River; and 10 grandchildren.

The Van Hise & Callagan Funeral Home, Point Pleasant Beach was in charge of arrangements. Entombment took place at St. Catharine’s Mausoleum, Wall.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Sacred Heart Church, 751 Main Ave., Bay Head, 08742.

Vladimir Perry
Wall resident Vladimir Perry passed away on Saturday, May 31 at Monmouth County Care Center, Wall.

He was 76 years old.

Mr. Perry had been employed as a retail executive with Montgomery Ward in New York, N.Y., until his retirement several years ago.

Born in New York, N.Y. he had resided in Kearny and then in New York City before moving to Wall Township in 1966. Vladimir had received his bachelors degree from Rutgers University, Newark.

He was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps with the rank of Staff Sgt. serving the U.S. Embassy in Turkey during the Korean War.

Val had a tremendous sense of humor and loved a good laugh. He was very proud of his family and was a great “Poppy” to his grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife, Katherine Weber Perry, in 1999; his parents, Vladimir and Irma Perry; and his brother, Constantine Perry, in 1996.

He is survived by his devoted children and their spouses, Amy and John Gallagher, and Anne Crilley, both of Wall, and Stephen and Guthrie Perry, of Washington, D.C., and his three beloved grandchildren, Kara Gallagher, Evan Crilley and Meghan Gallagher.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the committal service on Saturday, June 21, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Catharine’s cemetery Mausoleum, Wall. Arrangements are under the direction of the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Highway 35 at New Bedford Road, Wall.

Eva Grace Read
Manasquan resident Eva Grace Read, known as “Gracie” to those who knew her, passed away on Monday, May 26 at her daughter and son-in-law’s home in the Sunset Lake section of Bridgewater.

She was 101 years old.

She was born in Cheltenham, Pa. on Sept. 5, 1906, the only child of George and and Eva Nankerville Oberle. Gracie moved to Bethlehem, Pa., where she attended East Stroudsburg and Muhlenberg Colleges and taught music and drama at Liberty High School. Her acting experience included “Lady Windemere’s Fan, ” some gilbert and Sullivan operettas, “The Night of January 16th, ” and the screams in radio’s True Detective Stories.

She moved to Bridgewater in 1951 with her husband, Lloyd Read, a civil engineer, and taught third grade at Bayberry School in Watchung where she was beloved by students, parents and teachers alike. Her tremendous enthusiasm and love for her students motivated them not only to love and create, but also to feel wonderful about themselves. A former student said that she taught not only by the books but by the heart. In the early 1960s, she received her masters degree in education from Rutgers University in New Brunswick.

Upon her retirement in 1973, Gracie “followed the sun and ocean” dividing her time between Manasquan and Pompano Beach, Fla., breathing in salt air, ankle-swimming, and always laughing with her friends.

She enjoyed acting with the Foothill Players, originally of Bridgewater, and was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Pluckemin.

Mrs. Read was predeceased by her husband, Llyod Clement Read, who died in 1965, and was a member of the Pluckemin Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Priscilla J. and Richard A. Lant, of Bridgewater; and two grandchildren, Christopher Scott Lant, of Madeira Beach, Fla. and Melissa J. Lant, of Hoboken. Her family has described her in many ways: “perfect grandmother, ” “spoiled us rotten, ” “magical, ” “filled with energy and love, ” and most of all, “fun.”

Private burial was held at Pluckemin Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Presbyterian Church at Pluckemin, P.O. Box 402, Pluckemin, 07978 [designated toward Children’s Ministry] or the Visiting Nurse Association of Somerset Hills Hospice, 200 Mt. Airy Road, Basking Ridge, 07920.

Arrangements were under the direction of Layton Funeral Home, Bedminster.

Frederick Monsell
Brielle resident Frederick B. Monsell passed away Thursday, May 29 in Brick Township.

He was 91 years old.

He was a longtime resident of Westchester County, N.Y. and retired to Brielle in 1995, where he was a parishioner at St. Denis Church, Manasquan.

His love for sports began in high school playing football which continued with the Plainfield Saracens semi-pro football team. He continued on with family golf and skating trips to the Poconos.

He was very proud of being a World War II veteran serving with the 102nd Calvary Division from Westfield.

His career in aviation spanned 42 years beginning with Howard Hughes at TWA and ending with Areo Tech World Trade in New York. His job gave him the opportunity to travel the globe.

Mr. Monsell was pre-deceased by his wife, Thelma Herring, in 1972; his son, Paul J. Monsell, in 1993; and brothers and sisters, William F. Monsell, John V. Monsell, Joseph T. Monsell, Edwin Monsell, Madeline Kriney, Rita Kreig and Marie Fiorvante.

Mr. Monsell is survived by his son, Rick and Sue Monsell, of Canton, Ohio; brother, Frank and Marion Monsell, of Brick Township; granddaughters, Lynn Kotler, Kristen Monsell and Jamie Monsell; great-granddaughter, Lauren LeBlanc; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Interment was held at St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: St. Denis Church Building Fund, Virginia Avenue, Manasquan, 08736 or the American Cancer Society, 801 Broad St., Shrewsbury, 07702.

Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan, was in charge of the arrangements.

Ellen Thompson
Wall resident Ellen Marie Thompson died on Wednesday, May 28 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.

She was 61 years old.

Mrs. Thompson was a repair clerk at NJ Bell in Newark for many years until she retired in 1996. She was a member of Calvary Chapel in Howell. Mrs. Thompson was born in Montclair and was a lifelong resident of Wall Township.

Surviving are her loving husband of 25 years, Steven Robert Thompson; son, Scott Thomas Yosco and daughter-in-law and best friend, Maria Yosco, of West Allenhurst; brother, Jay Baker, of Austin, Texas; two sisters, Judy Dempsey, of Pittsburgh, Pa. and Susan Stohrer, of Brielle; and three grandchildren, Tyler Scott, Kyle Gian, and Cole Patrick Yosco.

Interment was private. Flowers or donations to the American Cancer Society, 801 Broad St., Shrewsbury, 07701.

Louis Manzione
Bradley Beach and longtime resident of Staten Island, Louis Manzione, passed away Tuesday, June 3 at the Medical Center of Ocean County, Brick Hospital.

He was 88 years old.

Born in the Port Richmond section, he had lived in Meires Corners section of Staten Island before moving to Bradley Beach 15 years ago.

He had been employed as a Manager for various A & P Grocery Stores in Staten Island, N.Y. He was also an honorably discharged veteran of the U.S. Army serving during WWII in the European and North African Campaigns with the 45th Infantry Division.

His passion in life was golf and he had won many tournaments. He was a member of Battleground Country Club, Manalapan and the Peddie School, Hightstown.

He was predeceased by his parents, Anthony and Teresa Gentile Manzione; his brother, Samuel; his sister, Elizabeth; and his brother-in-law, Vincent Falcone.

Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Mary McEwan Manzione; 3 stepsons and their wives, Robert and Joann Tyrrell, Thomas and Murna Tyrrell, and James and Barbara Tyrrell; his two sisters, Katherine Falcone and Rose Leggiadro; six grandchildren, Teresa, Mary Elizabeth, Jo-Ellen, Robert, Joe and Joy; and seven great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to call today, June 5, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Highway 35 at New Bedford Road, Wall, 07719 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday at a time and church to be announced.

Burial will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Staten Island.
