Frank P. Spano
Point Pleasant resident Frank P. Spano died Thursday, March 27, at home.

He was 84 years old.

He was born in New York City and resided in Brooklyn, N.Y. before moving to Howell, where he resided for over 40 years. He moved to Point Pleasant three years ago.

He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army.

Frank was a printer in New York for over 25 years. More recently, he was a fixture at his son’s restaurant.

His wife, Carmella, died in 1995.

He is survived by his daughter, Maria Lewis, of Lakewood; his two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Linda, of Jackson, and Joseph and Lori, of Point Pleasant; two sisters, Lena Riccio and Stella Castaldi, both of Long Island, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Diana, Debrah, Heather, Jennifer and Frankie; and two stepgrandchildren, Robbie and Ally.

The Lakewood Funeral Home, Howell handled the arrangements. Burial took place at Princeton Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a breast cancer charity of the donor’s choice.

Winifred Hignett Dossinger
Point Pleasant Beach resident Winifred Hignett Dossinger died Sunday, March 30, at St. Peter’s University Hospital, New Brunswick.

She was 82 years old.

Born in Manchester, England, he lived in St. Louis, until moving to Point Pleasant Beach in 1986.

Prior to retiring, Mrs. Dossinger was a travel agent for Travelers Service, St. Louis.

She was predeceased by her husband, Francis “Bud” Dossinger, in 1998.

She is survived by a daughter, Rita Reisert of Monroe Township; a sister, Lillian Hignett; and three brothers, William Thomas, Peter and Jeffrey Hignett, all of England; three grandchildren, Jeffrey, Scott and Brooke Reisert; and four great-grandchildren, Brielle, Deal, Dylan and Jon Carlo.

Funeral Services were private, and entrusted to The Brunswick Memorial Home, East Brunswick.

Denise Suzanne Falkinburg
Point Pleasant resident Denise Suzanne Falkinburg died Saturday, March 29, in Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.

She was 67 years old.

A graduate of Trenton State College, she held a bachelor of arts and a master’s degree. Mrs. Falkinburg attended Adelphia College in Garden City, N.Y., where she was recognized for her theater workshops. She held a certificate with the state of New Jersey for a teacher of speech arts and dramatics English.

Mrs. Falkinburg was a teacher in Long Branch and an avid antique business owner and dealer.

Surviving are her loving son, Darrell Joseph Falkinburg and his wife, Virginia Ann, of Brielle; and her two special grandchildren, Arielle Laren and Torey Reed Falkinburg.

The Johnson-McGinley Funeral Home, Wall, handled the arrangements.

Robert S. Carr
Point Pleasant resident Robert S. Carr died peacefully Saturday, March, 29 in his home, surrounded by his family.

Born in Newark, he lived in Missouri prior to moving to Point Pleasant 50 years ago.

Mr. Carr served his country on the USS Antietam with the United States Navy.

He was employed by the New Jersey Highway Authority as a Supervisor at the Toms River Toll Plaza for 35 years, retiring in 1998.

He enjoyed his motorcycles, vacationing in Vermont, he adored his children and his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Broshart Carr. He is also survived by his two sons, Robert D. Carr and his wife, Kris, of Brick, and Brian Carr, of Point Pleasant; his daughter Michele Carr, of Brick; and four grandchildren Kevin, Daryl, Max and Adam.

The Van Hise and Callagan Funeral Home, Point Pleasant Beach, was in charge of arrangements. Burial took place at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Wall.

J. Albert Fowler
Mantoloking resident J. Albert Fowler died Sunday, March 30, in his home.

He was 87 years old.

Born and raised in Orange, he was the son of the late J. Albert and Ruth Fowler. Mr. Fowler, and graduated from Rutgers University in 1942.

His early career included sales positions with Vick Chemical Co. and Bon Ami Co. He spent more than 20 years with the Dupont Co., Wilmington, Del., where he was a national sales manager of consumer products.

In 1976, he bought Smith Travel in Spring Lake. The business was renamed Sunrise Travel and still operates today in Monmouth and Ocean counties.

Mr. Fowler was most proud of his work with the Opportunity Center in Wilmington, which trained disabled people for employment. He was a founder of the center and served on its board of directors for 18 years.

He was a member of Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church, Manasquan River Golf Club and Spring Lake Bath &Tennis Club.

Mr. Fowler was predeceased by his wife of 43 years, Emily; a brother, Donald Fowler; and a sister, Ruth Jean Walcott.

He is survived by three children, Carol Crothers, of Brielle, Beth Rocheleau and her husband, Paul, of Richmond, Va., and Jim Fowler and his wife, Eve, of Branford, Conn. Mr. Fowler is also survived by seven grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to call from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday at Orender Family Home for Funerals, 2643 Old Bridge Road, Wall. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church.

At the request of the family, please no flowers. Kindly make a memorial donation to John Hopkins University Melanoma Fund, 100 N. Charles St., Suite 322, Baltimore, MD 21201, or Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church, Bay and Forman avenues, Point Pleasant, 08742.

Anita McCaffery
Spring Lake resident Anita Marie McCaffery died on Tuesday, April 8 at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center, in Neptune.

She was predeceased by her husband, James, in 2006. Surviving are her sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy Ann and Stephen Stover; two sisters-in-law, Mary Rowe and Jane Callighan; and six nieces.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated today at 11 a.m. at St. Catharine’s RC Church, in Spring Lake. Entombment will be at St. Catharine’s Cemetery, Wall.

Tootie “Mac” Pharo
Point Pleasant resident Tootie “Mac” Pharo, whose daughter resides in Manasquan, died Thursday, April 3 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.

She was 86 years old.

Hired in 1953, she was still employed by the Point Pleasant Board of Education as a secretary to the Superintendent of Schools.

She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Capt. Eagle Pharo, and her dog, Trouble.

She is survived by her three children, daughter Candy and husband Walter Campbell, of Brick, son Michael Pharo and Louise Ebert, of Williamsburg, Va., and daughter Gina Pharo, Manasquan. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Carrie Campbell, of Point Pleasant, Kelly Wilson, of Brick, Brett Campbell, of Brick, Adam Pharo, of Point Pleasant, Ryan Pharo, of Manasquan, and Taylor Pharo, of Norfolk, Va., in addition to five great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations in her name to the Jersey Shore Animal Shelter, Brick Boulevard, Brick.

Per her request, no funeral services were held.

Cremation was handled by Van Hise and Callagan Funeral Home, Point Pleasant.

Charles Morton Sr.
Brick resident Charles W. Morton passed away on Wednesday, April 2, at Ocean Medical Center. He leaves behind many loved ones, including family in Wall. He was born in Manasquan and has been a lifelong resident of the Jersey Shore.

He was 86 years old.

Charles was a carpenter and also an auto mechanic. He was a member of the Carpenter Local Union 2018, Lakewood, and was also employed by several local car dealerships as a mechanic. Charles was an army veteran of WW II. He was a member of the American Legion, Lakewood, a former member of the VFW, Wildwood, Fla., and a member of the Forester’s of America, and served as a chief ranger in the early 1970s.

Charles was predeceased by his wife of 33 years, Mary, in 1978, a son Thomas, in 1975, and his longtime companion of 30 years, Grace Ann Bennett, in 2007.

He is survived by a son and his wife, Charles Jr. and Marlene Morton, of Brick; three daughters and their husbands, Mary Ann and Raymond Egloff, of Farmingdale, Theresa and Thomas DeGroot, of Wisconsin, and Kathleen and Edwin Fitzgerald, of Port Republic; 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Interment was private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Leukemia Research Foundation, 3520 Lake Ave., Suite 202, Wilmette, IL 60091-1064.
