Theresa A. Radice Barulli
Point Pleasant resident Theresa A. Radice Barulli died Thursday, March 13, in Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.

She was 79 years old.

Born in Bayonne, she lived in South Plainfield from 1961 to 1989, when she moved to Point Pleasant.

She worked in the assessing department for the South Plainfield Borough Hall for 10 years before retiring.

She was a member of the Senior Beehive and the Rosary Society of St. Martha’s Church, Point Pleasant.

She was predeceased by her husband, Edward T. Barulli, in 1981; her parents, Julia Kandour Radice and Frank Radice; and her grandson, T.J. Barulli.

She is survived by her children, Edward, of Lowell, Mass., Judy Barulli Dolan and her husband, Tom, of Bradenton, Fla., Anthony and his wife, Tina, of South Plainfield, Thomas, of Hopatcong, and Frank and his wife, Michelle, of Point Pleasant; her sister, Frances Poole and her husband, Richard, of Point Pleasant; and her nephew and godson, Richard Poole; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The Colonial Funeral Home, Brick, handled the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN, 38105-1905.

Elizabeth F. Harris Pearce
Bay Head resident Elizabeth F. Harris Pearce died Saturday, March 15 at the Burnt Tavern Rehabilitation Center, Brick.

She was 92 years old.

Born in Camden to the late Samuel L. and Reba Sweeten Harris, she was a life-long Bay Head resident. A homemaker, Mrs. Pearce was a member of Saint Paul’s United Methodist Church, Bay Head. She was a beloved wife and loving mother.

Predeceased by her husband Walter, surviving are her son Ronald H. Pearce of Bay Head; her grandson Kevin R. Pearce and his wife Marni of Scotch; and her great granddaughter, Hanna.

Friends may visit from 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at The Pable-Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, 901 Beaver Dam Road, 732-899-3300, where at 12 noon a service of remembrance will be held. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Brielle. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

John Brenner
Lakewood resident John Joseph Brenner died on Wednesday, March 12 at Kimball Medical Center in Lakewood. He leaves behind many loved ones, including family in Manasquan.

He was 67 years old.

He was born in Dover and lived in Springfield before moving to Lakewood two and one-half years ago. He was a veteran proudly serving his country in the U.S. Air Force. He was employed as a printer for many years with LP Thebault in Parsippany, retiring in 2000.

He was a lifetime exempt fireman with the Springfield Volunteer Fire Department.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Gail [Lund] Brenner; two daughters, Bettyann Menza and her husband, Michael, of Basking Ridge, and Sandy D’Anton and her husband, Russell, of Manasquan; a sister, Betty Arnold, of Lakewood; eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Interment was private.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to the American Heart Association.

O’Brien Funeral Home, Brick, was in charge of the arrangements.

Edward Thompson
Staten Island, N.Y. resident Edward [Ned] Thompson, a sergeant with the New York City Police Department and a member of the First Responders group on 9/11, died March 9 at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, N.Y., NY, from complications resulting from lung cancer. He leaves behind many loved ones, including parents, who live in Sea Girt.

He was 39 years old.

Born to George and Deborah Thompson on July 29, 1968, the West Brighton native graduated from Monsignor Farrell High School in 1986. He graduated from Villanova University in Pennsylvania in 1990 with a bachelor’s degree in English and taught at Glenn Mills School for Boys, Glen Mills, Pa., for a year before moving back to West Brighton.

After graduating from the Police Academy in 1991, Mr. Thompson became an officer for the NYPD. While working in the 6th Precinct in Manhattan’s West Village, he became the commanding officer of the Street Narcotics Unit. He also served as the supervisor for the Washington Square Park Enforcement unit and in 1994, he ascended to the rank of sergeant.

Mr. Thompson married Justine Gilroy in 1998. The two began a family that would eventually include four children.

Mr. Thompson was transferred to the Intelligence Division at the 6th Precinct in 2005. In 2006, he was the recipient for the Commissioners Award for Excellence.

The hard-working sergeant was respected by the people who worked for him, as well as others. While Mr. Thompson remained active in his community, he was also a member of the Holy Name Society, the Emerald Society and the Fraternal Order of Police.

Mr. Thompson was an avid New York sports fan, most notably of the Giants and Yankees. In fact, he was such a passionate Giants fan that he attended numerous home games with his brother, William, and was overjoyed when the home team captured the Super Bowl last month.

Mr. Thompson was a participant in the First Responders Group during 9/11. In December, he fell ill with an apparent respiratory illness that went undetected until he reported symptoms that included chronic wheezing. The agency called for him to fill out paperwork, but no chest X-rays were mandated. Three weeks after, he was diagnosed with lung cancer.

In addition to Justine, his wife of 10 years, Mr. Thompson is survived by his four daughters, Jacqueline, 8, Emily, 5, Madison, 5, and Abigail, 2; his parents, George and Deborah, of Sea Girt; and his brother, William and his wife, Katie, of Little Silver.

Burial was held in Moravian Cemetery, in the New Dorp section of Staten Island, N.Y.

Elizabeth Cicchelli
Spring Lake resident Elizabeth Ann Vitale Cicchelli, formerly of Avon, passed away Sunday, March 16 at Care One at Wall.

She was 72 years old.

At the time of her passing, she had been employed at Lord and Taylor, in Eatontown. Prior to this, she had been a medical assistant for Dr. Abramson and later, for Dr. Joseph Mannion at their Avon office for many years.

Born in Newark, she had attended Boston University and then had lived in Avon by the Sea for 28 years, before moving to Spring Lake 15 years ago.

She was a longtime communicant of St. Elizabeth’s RC Church, Avon.

She was predeceased by her dear parents, Michael and Margaret Queenan Vitale.

Surviving are her devoted children and their spouses, Robert and Rhina Cicchelli, of Middletown, and Christine and Timothy Fitzmaurice, of Oceanport; two brothers, Michael Vitale, of Avon by the Sea, and Jack Vitale, of Spring Lake Heights; five grandchildren, Joseph, Jackie, Ryan, John and Jaymi; and many nieces and nephews and many loving friends.

A funeral service will be held today at 10 a.m. at the O’Brien Funeral Home, Highway 35 at New Bedford Road, Wall.

Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Middletown.

Helen Muszynski
Helen Muszynski died on March 14 at Laurelton Village, of Brick. She leaves behind many loved ones, including family in Wall.

She was 91 years old.

Born in Brooklyn. N.Y., Mrs. Muszynski worked for the Westinghouse Corporation of Union as an assembly worker for 40 years before her retirement many years ago.

Mrs. Muszynski was predeceased by her husband, Edward, in 1996.

She is survived by her niece, Joyce Wilkins, of Wall; nephews Peter Czaikowski, of Glen Gardner, and Steven Czaikowski, of Trenton, S.C. Carolina, in addition to her great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.

Committal was held at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa, Doylestown, Pa.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Association Greater NJ Chapter, 400 Morris Ave., Suite 251, Denville, 08901, in memory of Mrs. Muszynski would be appreciated.

Johnson-McGinley Funeral Home, Wall, was in charge of the arrangements.

Joseph Carhart
Oklahoma City, Okla. resident Joseph Carhart, formerly of Spring Lake, died on March 17.

He was 84 years old.

Born in Tishomingo, Okla., Mr. Carhart’s family moved to Bergen County when he was a young boy. He grew up in West New York, in New Jersey, where he met and married Janet, his late wife. They lived in Pompton Lakes before moving to Spring Lake where they lived for 25 years. They were long time summer residents and later full time residents of Ocean Beach Unit III.

Mr. Carhart was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, serving in Europe. He was a longtime member of Iron Workers Local No. 46 in New York City.

Mr. Carhart is survived by his children, Patrick, and wife, Janie, Oklahoma City, Okla., Robert and his wife, Shirley, Manasquan, Jill and her family, Laurel, Robin, Donavan and Zachary, Ocean Beach; grandchildren, Christopher and his wife, Michaela, Colin, Brynn and fiancé, Matthew, Meredith, Taylor, Shayna, Kara and Heather; and great-grandchildren, Lily and Christopher.

Mr. Carhart was cremated in Oklahoma and services were private.

Diane Mitchell
Allenwood section of Wall resident Diane Mitchell passed away on Monday, March 10, at Geraldine Thompson Care Center.

She was 85 years old.

Diane was the owner and operator of Brielle Dry Cleaners for over 25 years.

She was communicant of St. Peter’s Point Pleasant, and a past member of the Brielle Chamber of Commerce. Diane enjoyed her trips to Atlantic City.

She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. and raised in Jersey City. Diane, along with her husband, James William, moved to Point Pleasant in 1963.

Diane was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, James William Mitchell, in 1993.

She is survived by three sons and a daughter-in-law, Kevin Mitchell, of Riverside, Calif., James Mitchell Jr., of Point Pleasant Boro, and Brian Mitchell and his wife, Cheryl, of Point Pleasant Beach. Diane is also survived by a sister, Mary and five grandchildren, Aimee, Katie, Jimmac, Jake and Tony.

Interment was private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Vitas Hospice, One Meridian Road, Eatontown, 07724.

Orender Family Home for Funerals, Manasquan, was in charge of the arrangements.
