Walter A. McGrath
Neptune resident Walter A. McGrath, formerly of Jersey City, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 15 in Ocean Medical Center, Brick Township. He leaves behind many loved ones, including family in Wall.

He was 83 years old.

He had been employed as a Military Sales Representative for General Foods, White Plains, N.Y. for 37 years, retiring in 1987.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in the SeaBees during World War II, and he had been a faithful communicant of Holy Innocent’s Church, Neptune, for 49 years. Born and raised in Jersey City, he had lived in Neptune for the past 49 years.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Emma [nee Fogel] McGrath; his loving children, Kevin, of San Lorenzo, Calif., Brian, of Neptune, Keith and his wife, Kristen McGrath, of Howell, and his daughter Erin and her husband, Greg Savage, of Wall; and eight grandchildren.

Burial was held in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Neptune.

In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to a charity of the donor’s in memory of Walter.

O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall, was in charge of the arrangements.

Bobby Bannick Jr.
Spring Lake Heights resident Bobby Bannick Jr. died on Sunday, Jan. 20 in Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune.

He was 16 years old.

He was a graduate of Spring Lakes Elementary School and a sophomore at Manasquan High School.

He enjoyed playing baseball, watching the Giants, skateboarding and playing online video games with all his friends.

He loved his dog, Sandi. Bobby was a great and sweet person who will be missed by all who knew him.

Bobby is survived by his parents, Robert and Meg; two sisters, Barbara and Brittany; grandmother Joan Bannick; aunts Tara and Colleen Gunning, Kelly, Kevin and Barbara Mullany, Tracey, Tim and Catherine McGreevey, Laura, Rob, Chris and Jenny Adams, Barbara, Al, Mark and Sam Pacheco; uncles Bruce, Chuck and Alan Bannick, Dan and Mark Gunning, Brian, Karin. Tomi and Nicki Gunning, and Sean, Sherry and Matthew Gunning.

Funeral services will be held at the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, 39 South St., Manasquan, on Friday, Jan. 25 at 11 a.m.

Interment will be in St. Anne’s Cemetery, Wall.

Visitation will be today from 5 to 8 p.m.

James Clarke Boud
Wall resident James Clarke Boud died Wednesday, Jan. 16 in Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.

He was 51 years old.

Mr. Boud was a machinist at Allied Signal in Eatontown before retiring 10 years ago. During his career, he was a lead man in the balancing department and also did plating for the company. Prior to his employment at Allied, he worked for the Frigidaire Company in Edison.

Mr. Boud was born in Neptune and grew up in Belmar before moving to Wall in 1984.

Mr. Boud was predeceased by his grandparents, Keith Free and Mary Jewart; and by his uncle Carl Edward Free.

Surviving are his loving wife of 21 years, Diane F. [nee Nicosia] Boud; sons, James Anthony and his wife, Jessica, of Lake Como, and Michael James, of Wall, at home; his mother, Kay Boud, of Neptune City; his grandfather, Warren Jewart, of Tinton Falls; his brother, Theodore and his wife, Brenda Boud, of Neptune; and his sister, Michelle and her husband, Scott Listman, of Murfreesboro, Tenn. He also leaves his aunt Peggy and her husband, Ed Mishlinski, of Oakhurst; a grandson, Anthony Tyler; and many nieces and nephews.

Interment will be private at Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls at the convenience of the family.

Donations may be made in Mr. Boud’s name to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Gene P. Fabry
Asbury Park resident Gene P. Fabry, formerly of Spring Lake, died on Sunday, Jan. 20 from complications of chronic lung disease. He leaves behind many loved ones, including family in Sea Girt, Manasquan and Spring Lake.

He was 62 years old.

A native of Spring Lake, Mr. Fabry was the son of the late Jerome and Florence Fabry, and the nephew of the late Paul and Jean Fabry, of Shrewsbury and the late Howard and Mildred Fabry, of Fair Haven.

Gene spent his entire working career in Spring Lake at the family business, Jerry’s Luncheonette, and then 31 years as a carrier at the Spring Lake Post Office.

In retirement, he was a volunteer office assistant to his dear friend, Jill Osis, at Trinity Church, and served on the board of trustees of the Esplanade Condominium Association. An avid baker, Gene prepared hundreds of birthday cakes every year for friends, neighbors and co-workers.

Mr. Fabry is survived by his partner of 16 years, Joseph Bowen, music director at St. John’s Church, Little Silver; a brother, Skip and his wife, Dee Dee Fabry, of Sea Girt; two nieces, Denise Fabry, of Manasquan and Debbie and her husband, Don, of Spring Lake; great-nephews, Darren and Charlie Sutton, of Spring Lake; and his cousins, Paul, Metty and Alex Fabry, of Brick, Ellen Fabry, of Burlington and Ann, Steven, and Dylan Gomm, of Redondo Beach, Calif.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at Trinity Church, 503 Asbury Ave., Asbury Park, at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26.

Mr. Bowen and the Fabry family will receive visitors immediately following the Mass.

Gene supported the food pantry, soup kitchen and music scholarship programs of his parish church/family. In lieu of flowers, please offer donations to Trinity Church for these fine programs or to St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church, Spring Lake.

Kathleen A. Byram
Wall resident Kathleen A. Byram died on Thursday, Jan. 17 in Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.

She was 50 years old.

Mrs. Byram was a payroll administrator for 26 years for the Red Bank Board of Education, until recently retiring.

She was a muscle car enthusiast and loved spending time on the Belmar Beach. She was a 1975 graduate of St. Rose High School. Mrs. Byram was born in Neptune and grew up in South Belmar before moving to Wall 25 years ago.

She was predeceased by her mother, Lorraine Rowe, in 1991.

Surviving are her loving husband of 30 years, Timothy R. Byram; her father, George T. Rowe and his wife, Josephine Mancino, of Spring Hill, Fla.; her sister, Janet C. Rowe and her companion, Eric Davis, of Dawsonville, Ga.; her brothers, George R. Rowe and his wife, Lisa, of Brick, and James C. Rowe and his wife, Louella, of Wall. The love of Kathy’s life was her niece, Jessica Rowe, and she also leaves her cousins Betty Anne Bowater and Eileen Leach.

Interment was private.

Donations may be made in her name to the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance, 910 17th Street NW, Suite 1190, Washington, D.C. 20006.

Richard Whitley
Wall resident Richard “Dick” Whitley passed away peacefully Wednesday, Jan. 16 in Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, surrounded by his loving family.

He was 78 years old.

He was born in Spring Lake on Oct. 31, 1929 to the late Charles and Josephine Whitley.

Dick served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Goodrich and the USS Smalley from 1947 to 1951.

He was employed at Manasquan Lumber for 42 years until its closing.

Dick was proud of his Irish heritage. He was a loyal fan of the Wall High School Crimson Knights football team, and he loved country music and Sunday football games.

Dick was well-known at the Manasquan Inlet -- drinking coffee, fishing and reading the Asbury Park Press.

In his memory, enjoy a sunrise on a favorite beach. Memorial donations may be made to the Wall Football Club, P. O. Box 1546, Wall, 07719.

He was predeceased by his brother, Bobby Whitley.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Geneveive; daughters, Colleen and her husband, James Badacker, Patricia and her husband, Michael Kingsbury and Christine and her husband, Greg Miles; two sons, Michael Whitley and his wife, Patricia and Sean Whitley and his wife, Rebecca; grandchildren, Shannon, Ryan, Laura, Chelsea, Bryan, Neal, Michael, Nigel, Kate, Bear, Kelsey, Noah and Kylie; great-grandchildren, Ayden and Rory; and sister and brothers, Jean, Buster and Tim.

Interment was private.

Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan, was in charge of the arrangements.

Clifford L. Saby
Sea Girt and Naples, Fla. resident Clifford L. Saby died on Friday, Jan. 18 in Naples Community Hospital.

He was 86 years old.

Mr. Saby was born in Werner, N.D. He joined the U.S. Coast Guard in 1940 and served for six years. While in the Coast Guard he was in charge of payroll for the Philadelphia District and he also served in the South Pacific on an AKA ship.

Mr. Saby attended Strayer’s Business College, Philadelphia, and graduated from Rutgers University. He was an accountant with an office in Sea Girt.

He was also a member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church, Spring Lake.

He was an event sponsor of the World Piano Competition for two years, on the Board of Directors for the Naples Music Club and Development Program, on the Board of Directors for the Classical Chamber Concert, Naples, a classic antique car collector, member of the Model T Car Club, Rolls Royce Club of Florida, Naples Marco Island Car Club and North Shore Antique Car Club.

He was also a substantial contributor to St. Luke’s Nursing Home, North Dakota, St. Elizabeth’s Ann Seton School, Naples, Classical Chamber Concert, Naples and Luzeme Music Camp, New York.

He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy Blair Saby, in 1991.

Surviving is his special friend Audrey C. Zaiser, of Belmar and Naples, Fla.

Interment was held at Greenwood Cemetery, Brielle.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 2760 52nd Terrace SW, Golden Gate, Fla. 34116.
